The reply from AP&S is more BS from them. They were even saying the circuit breaker panel on the side of the house was one they installed. No it wasn't, the home builder installed it. I have pictures and them saying the panel was installed by them. Then they blamed the issue on solar panels being installed after the pool was completed. The panel they installed had a loose hot wire and that caused a SHORT which back-feed power to the main circuit breaker panel on the side of the house and that caught on fire. Absolutely terrible experience with American Pools & Spas. My salt chlorinator and pool light failed, both under warranty. I scheduled service in April 2025, and despite multiple confirmations, no one showed up -- not once, but twice. When I followed up, they admitted they forgot to log the repair. Seriously? After weeks of delays and zero accountability, my pool turned completely green and unusable. I've spent over $300 out of pocket trying to keep it under control with chemicals -- all because they couldn't be bothered to do their job. Then, after I left a polite but honest review, their rep told me they would no longer help and that I should call the manufacturer myself, saying they had "other things to do." My patio floods every time it rains and I have water damage INSIDE my house because they did not meet the clearance requirement when building my patio. The staff from the front desk to the supervisors are completely incompetent. The customer absolutely comes LAST but taking your money comes first! The are negligent, rude, and unprofessional. You got a warranty? NO YOU DIDNT! They hit and RUN! They cut corners to get your pool done and take your money and then I promise you will NEVER get ahold of them ever again! I noticed rust stains on my submerged stainless steel handrail. After a month of unsuccessful attempts to get rid of it, I called American Pools. Both Troy Girdner and Todd Gwynn came out in less than a week to take a look. After cleaning my handrail and telling me what to do in the event of the rust returning, I was more than satisfied. We had a wonderful experience and as a first-time pool builder, we did not know what to expect or how the process worked. Matt Mustow was wonderful and made us feel at ease. He was there every step of the way and made the process seamless and easy. They kept us informed on the progress every week with what was coming next. They even went as far as working directly with our HOA and took care of all the necessary paperwork that was needed. Signed a contract for a pool on January 25, 2021, it is now January 5, 2022.That is close to a year that American Pools and Spas have been screwing around installing my pool. It is maybe 2/3rds complete. I have contacted them 3 different times by email and have yet to receive any kind of answer. WHAT A POOR EXCUSE FOR A COMPANY. I would like to share my experience with this company, I am going to start by saying that they need to change their slogan to "Thank you for your patience" because certainly, you are going to hear this a lot from them. Here is what happened: September/22: After a research we ended up choosing American Pools and Spas to build our pool, the company seemed more reliable, but I think it was because of Matt, the sales person, he is professional and very convincing, unfortunely he is the only one who provided a good work for us. We signed the contract in 09/26/22. October/22: they started working on the permits within the County. By the end of November (11/22/22) all the permits were approved. Nothing happened in December and after asking them for a start date they came up with an internal deadline for the construction, that we were not aware of it (they did not mention that when we signed the contract). January/18: they started sending emails asking for changes in the project but never said a word about when the work would start and kept saying: "Thanks for your patience". January/27th: we received another fake promised that our project would be released to construction the following week and of course, it never happened. February/5th: we decided to cancel the project, we lost our faith in the company. They have no accountabilty, no commitment, only vague promisses that they never honored. They tried to convince us to keep the project, the owner called us, but they still did not provide any dates, we never heard an apology from them, just the usual: "Thanks for your patience". For canceling the contract we were penalized losing our entire deposit and on (February/9th) they promised to return our payment for the turf, that we added later, in 2 weeks (February/23rd) and it was another fake promised because, after the 2 weeks passed by we did not received anything, so we had to send another email (February/27th) and the answers was: "That check is being issued today and should be in the mail tomorrow. We thank you for your patience." The icing on the cake, to close this terrible experience with this company, today 03/06/23, an Orange County inspector visited us to check the pool, because they did not canceled the project with the County and of course, I had to contact them AGAIN to inform that and ask them to do THEIR job. I really don't recommend this company, they are good to sell but they don't deliver. They act like amateurs, they give you nothing but promisses, they never acknowlegde their mistakes and they never keep their promisses. It has been over a year since we signed our contract and we still don't have our final inspection completed. They were told multiple times by the irrigation guy that they needed to grade down a part of the lawn behind the pool and American kept telling him no. He put in the sod and it failed inspection because, just like he told American, the dirt was too high. The project manager agreed, but Candace, who just sits behind a desk and never saw the property, said no. A new project manager agreed a few months ago but nothing has been done because they want the irrigation guy to do the work that he told them needed to be done before putting down the sod, for free. We keep being told that we need to be patient and understand that they have hundreds of customers at the moment. Well, it's not my fault that they overextended themselves and can't keep up. The ONLY client I care about is ME! $75,000 for a pool and I have picked up 4 bags of trash left by their workers, begged and pleaded for them to finish the project, put up with rude and unprofessional comments from many in their office, and much more. They have my money but I don't have my final inspection. I have a hot tub in my garage waiting to be installed and a fence in storage that is also waiting to be installed but I can't until the inspection is completed. Dan was the only one to ever help. They sent him out to smooth things over and he eventually quit, I'm sure because he was exhausted by all of the complaints. I wish I had seen the reviews before I signed the contract with American pools & spas, our project has over 15 months and 100k investment, and they did a very poor job. Missing pieces and equipment, no response at all, failed inspections, discolored material, no warranty, and the worse part is that they excuse is "this is industry standard". I had to fly from texas because they were ripping off my 80 years old parents and treating them with no respect. The only thing they did not delay was asking for payment. I am starting an official claim with the city and counsel against American pools, if you want to be part of it please contact me. Finally got someone to fix stucco, but I'll have to paint. The discolor spots in the pool was treated with acid and it helped, but it's still has discolor spots in the pool. The person has not returned to remove his equipment and restart our pool pumps. I'll have to do it myself I guess. I even text the supervisor and never received a reply. I wish I had never used American Pools and Spas. They just need to fix my stuff and we'll be done with each other. Most of their rating are one stars and there's a good reason for that, they SUCK! American Pools and Spa's workers drove through my front yard instead of the agreed upon access point. They drove through my landscaping, sod and bushes. As a result they also damage a section of my irrigation zone; all which required repairs and/or replacement. Their forklift driver fell down the hill adjacent to my home tearing up more sod that I had to replace. Throughout the construction I was in constant communication with the superintendent, his boss and my sales person. The superintendent and his boss both assured me that American Pools and Spa would reimburse me for the damages.They marked the area and took numerous photos. After my project was complete (Jan 2023) I sent a letter with photos and receipts of repairs that I completed to my superintendent, his boss and my salesperson requesting reimbursement. I received no response from any of them. I sent a follow up email to all three and the owner (William Evans) in Feb 2023, again no response from anyone. I paid my deposits and draws timely. It is a shame that this company is ignoring my request and not owning up to the obligations and assurances made by their representatives. The irony is that they built me a nice pool and I would have gladly given them a good review, but now I have to recommend that a buyer beware. read more

Beware of American Pools. We purchased out pool less than 18 months back. The coping tiles are falling off. The warranty manager came out to investigate and ruled it a "maintenance issue". They do not stand behind their work. I understand that situations arise in construction, however, the warranty manager, the sales person, and the owner have all been notified. They said I am on my own. I am losing 80% of the tiles and I am pissed. It is obvious that the sealant was applied incorrectly. read more

If I could go back in time and pay twice the amount I paid for our pool/spa combo just to avoid having to deal with this particular company again, I would do it without hesitation. Every aspect of interaction with this company has been riddled with drama and disappointment. Problem 1: As new home owners and first time pool owners, we had a lot of questions and concerns during our initial consultation. The salesman assured us that any feature we deny initially can be added later for additional cost. In the hopes of reducing the impact to our mortgage, we opted out of certain features, hoping to add them later. The primary feature we opted away from was the auto fill and drain function. We were not sure how necessary this would be, so we decided to give it a year and evaluate how important it would be after the year was over. After a few months, we realized it would be very beneficial for us, so we decided to give them a call. Not only did they lie to us and tell us that they "only do installations" and will not add any feature or enhancement to a pool once it is completed...but we found out that the particular feature we wanted would require some drastic implementation and rework, costing us thousands and a lot of damage to the pool. Many of the 3rd part contractors we asked told us it wouldn't even be worth the risk and would not agree to perform the enhancement. Problem 2: Installation itself delayed our home's closing and construction by 3 months. They refused to inform our building contractor of any schedule changes or updates. We sat in the dark for months, without any understanding of why our home was completed and our pool was sitting there unfinished for months. Taking a long time to finish the pool, you would expect that it was completed with quality in mind....you would think... Problem 3: Now that the pool is completed, we have identified numerous issues with the pool, the pool deck, and certain functionality. Our builder warranty service has fought this company every single time they needed to come out to our home. They have put forth an incredible amount of effort to avoid repairing any issues we discovered. Our warranty service has been on site to identify and confirm problems and ended up getting into verbal screaming matches right in our home, while talking to American Pools on the phone. They have been an absolute nightmare and the quality of the pool was extremely mediocre. I would not use this company if they were offering pools for free, because the long term effects of maintenance and aggravation are not worth it. Unfortunately there were not a lot of well-advertised options when we were shopping for a pool, but I encourage everyone to do a little a research and steer clear of this company altogether. Not a single person in my entire community that has used American Pools has had a decent experience. They are all part of the "Never again will I use them for anything" crowd. Considering some of their "top reviews" are from employees....and they removed the functionality to place reviews on Facebook....there are plenty of red flags to fully support all of this... read more

Without question the worst company I have come across in my 66 years. We purchased a new build home in Port Saint Lucie and American Pool was the in house builder. We have had nothing but issues from almost day 1. A rusting handrail when we moved in was just a hint of what was to come. It took MONTHS to get that replaced, followed by flaked off pieces of the floor of the pool, which took forever just to get someone to look at it. It was then we found out that the floor of the pool was subcontracted, they agreed that the floor had issues but not to worry, it was no problem. Of course the pool was leaking from that hole which they took no responsibility for. That was after we had to pay almost a 1,000 dollars to pay for 2 other major leaks months prior. Understand this is a 4 year old pool with more issues than a 10 year old pool. American has since closed the Port Saint Lucie office probably to mitigate law suits. My recommendation is to stay as far away from this company as possible. read more

Avoid this company at all Cost. We paid for the deposit August of 2021 we where told 5 to 7 months it is now going to be finished in July which is 11 months. On top of that All of our equipment is still not here. They did not put in drains where they were called for. They did not regrade the property yet and we personally did it so that we would not be further delayed. They have all of our money as this week we were told the final payment is due and today they were suppose to apply the pebble finish and tomorrow the ACID wash well now that is postponed until next week. They do not care about you they only care about their money. The only thing they were never late with is asking for money. I feel bad because we used them to build a pool three years ago and the process was better so we recommended them. I am sorry to those people and Norma I know you went there please to buy from them. We will be selling and moving in three years when our child moveout after college and we did plan on using them again until this process. We will searching else where at that time. they built my pool for my new home through meritage homes. (April 2018) Jose the sales consultant was A+! It was a lot of fun to design the pool. Custom design, with wetedge surface, and screened enclosure. The pool looks great and I love. I would recommend them again. Only 4 out of 5 stars for the following reasons: -a couple of pieces of tile were installed chipped -Gave NO hardware documentation, which is causing a HUGE pain when trying to register for the manufacture warranty. There are inconsistencies in the tiles, they left a disaster in our yard, the project management team is horrible, with no follow through and poor communication. The salesperson at this point is the only person who was good to deal with, but when a project goes so poorly it doesn't matter how good the sales person is. After leaving a recent conference in Orlando I looked up local pool businesses and decided to stop by this business which is far away from my local market and I'm always interested in what I find in other markets. Upon walking in I was greeted by a friendly woman at the front desk and after informing her of the nature of my visit she said to feel free to look around and ask any questions. After viewing the display pools and water features for a few minutes I was greeted by a very polite gentleman named Ben who offered a tour of the facility. After speaking with him for a few minutes I realized he was the owner. The more of this business that I was able to see the more I realized what a busy man he must be. In the beginning of our conversation I had asked if there was any advice he could give another pool contractor that was looking to advance the construction side of his business. Then after the tour Ben showed me to his office and took the time to ask a few questions of his own so he could help provide me with information that to me was much more important than he could know. For Ben to take the time out of his day and put forth the effort to make sure I had such a great experience when just stopping by I can only imagine what an incredible experience his team could create for his customers. Our pool, patio, and screen construction started in December 2014 and was completed in March 2015. We are very happy with the service and product we received from American Pools & Spas. We have received so many compliments on the pool and patio they installed for us. From the sales and design process all the way through construction and billing, they were very professional. All the crews we had out were friendly and did quality work. In speaking with the different workers, we found that most of them had been with the company for many years and you could tell when you watched them that they cared about the quality of the final product, as they were meticulous in their work. Any time we had a question or concern, all we had to do was pick up the phone and call our construction supervisor, who would respond in a timely manner and address any issue we had to our satisfaction. Please research for a different pool company. American Pools put in our pool 2 years ago and it's NOTHING like the pool we wanted. First time they came out they put stakes in the ground where the pool would be built, they spent all day doing this only to find out they weren't our plans did this twice! Nobody knows what either department Is doing. The workers who came were very friendly and professional it's the management who do not care what's going on. We picked out the pool we wanted the tile in the pool the pavers we wanted. We find out later AFTER the pool is in that the pavers we picked out are not for around a pool they would be way too hot to walk on in the heat of summer! Why would our "experienced" pool contractor we were working with not tell us this when we picked out our pavers? All our pool colors don't go together anymore, our screens they put up around our pool panels broke within a year. Call American Pools and was told "not our problem anymore". The company who came to repair our screens told me they end up doing these repairs regular on American Pools screens. Cement pools are like tattoos once it's done it's done forever no do overs!
