I came to get a haircut and it shows they are should be open, but then after trying to open the door it happens to be LOCKED, like what the hell. You're suppose to open at 11am. They had a small sign showing they will reopen at 3pm...meaning they come open for 1 hours then cost up again for 3 hours...what is pure BS. What type of business are they running here? Got here right at 10 when they opened today. I was hoping I got there in time before the morning rush and thought that I was gonna miss it because of all the traffic on State College. I made it though and got into a chair right away. George cut my hair, which was really long and I hadn't gotten a cut in almost a year. I got an undercut because I'm trying to grow a topknot/manbun and my hair is now long enough to bypass that weird in-between stage. We got to talking and she mentioned that she worked at American Razor. She was very polite, friendly and easygoing. This gave me a good read on the type of employee they have there. Jump to today. I needed a fresh cut like yesterday. I tried to contact a couple of people that some of my friends had suggested but they were a no-go. Then I saw it. That black business card with the gold lettering, straight razor and eagle. I gave them a call. I AM SO GLAD I DID! Walking up to the open door you can already see the mix of traditional and contemporary decor. Wood paneling and brick in the wall gives a real sense of nostalgia as you walk in. I don't know how to explain it but it's "old school" but not old. It's traditional but not dated. It's just plain awesome is what it is! Before I can even open my mouth to say hello, I'm welcomed and invited to have a seat. What great customer service! I work with a company that is known worldwide for its level of customer service so this was greatly appreciated! The staff was awesome. Bruno(the owner) worked his magic on my hair. He took the task at hand and my suggestions seriously but without taking himself too seriously. This made things very comfortable and enjoyable. He and Elyssa(sorry if I butchered your name!) are very personable, easygoing and genuine. This makes it easy to simply chat away on small talk or get into a bigger, more involved conversation. By the end of my cut and beard trim I couldn't believe my eyes. It was perfect! He was able to give me a perfect cut from a vague description I gave him about what my previous barber did. He also left my beard looking exactly as I pictured even though the only description I gave him was "I want to to be where people say 'hey, look at that guy with the crazy beard', but not so much to where someone feels they should alert the authorities". Just went in for a beard trim. The guy never pulled out a razor for cleaning up the line. Instead he just used a trimmer which irritated my neck and I now it's red and painful. I'm bald and asked for a really close buzz on head too because I don't like the shaved look. He spent most of the time on the beard trim (15 bucks), but still charged me an additional 25 bucks for the 2 minute "haircut." The guy wasn't great but not awful, so 3 stars would be fine, but the fact that he charged me a full haircut even though he just ran a buzzer across my head for 2 minutes annoyed me. 2 stars it is. read more

You would not recognize it today - buy consistently hiring superb barbers and promoting a service culture built around the customer, American Razor has gone from a simple 11 dollar haircut to a $30 salon-like styling session around your look. Services include a hot towel, full shave and style, straight razor... and I personally appreciate the precision detailing that helps me delay my next visit because my hair still looks good. As he went through each of the lather treatments, he let me know what he was applying and exactly what to expect. You even get a nice head and face massage as well. As for the pricing, it's $35, but it's competitive to what's out there. Classic Barbers also charge $35, but my experience here was relaxing and professional with retro, old skool feel. Love it! I used to get my haircut at salon franchises like Fantastic Sam's, but when I finally left my cheapness behind me I never looked back. I've been going here for about a year now and I would never let anyone else cut my hair except the people here. It's hard to get a good cut (esp for girls) in the style you want at a salon who does whatever THEY want. Here, you tell em what you want and they really take the time to get you to the style you want. $25 really is no big deal for the quality you get from their cut. Friday. I just got off the phone with my regular hair cut joint with some bad news: my hairstylist of 4 years had quit and left with no word. We've all been there before. It sucks having to find a new salon/barber to call home. You don't just trust anyone with your hair. Luckily, Bruno at American Razor saved the day by giving me a great haircut which got me compliments all weekend. "Your hair cut looks FRESH" "New haircut? It looks CLEAN" "Nice haircut, where did you get it done?" These are just some of the compliments that I heard as I bar hopped around Hollywood that very night with a group of friends. Bruno is truly an artist who genuinely loves what he does for living and you get a sense that he honed his craft. Moreover, he KNOWS and UNDERSTANDS providing great customer service. I never got nervous during the haircut because he explains what he is going to do, the reason why, and then ask for your input. He kept me involved in the whole process and engaged by telling me stories/jokes. Matter of fact, the whole group of guys at American Razor are funny and crack jokes all the time. Never saw the price as unfair because you get your money's worth here.
