Today we drove to Brea for lunch. When we arrived at the restaurant, next door we discovered that Hammer & Nails has walk-in hair services. We decided to check it out the front desk receptionists was very courteous and helpful. CMR opted for a haircut, which I don't particularly enjoy as I am fond of his long hair. Sadly this is a ritual he follows every few years after his hair grows out he cuts it all out. Given CMR's wavy hair with considerable volume, we seek out professionals experienced in handling diverse hair types. This being our 1st visit, I was impressed with the exceptional service provided by JC. The ambiance is relaxed, reminiscent of the classic ICONIC Marlboro Man style. Although Hammer & Nails is approximately 30 minutes from our house, I anticipate CMR will be making the trip to visit JC's skilled hair services. read more

Unfortunately, I don't recall any particular person's name working at this location; thus my review is of the location as a whole. I first found Hammer and Nails in my hometown of Brea purely by happenstance (and in effort to find another place for a good haircut, perhaps dabble in pedicures, besides Sport Clips). Curiosity drew me into this establishment, but by golly, it was the experience that had me stay until I eventually couldn't. From the moment I first walked in, I was blown away by the aesthetic-- definitely tailored towards guys. What's more, for my first visit, was offered a complimentary beverage (my go-to was always a woodford reserve whiskey on the rocks-- puts one at ease during a nice cut). Be it a haircut, a mani-pedi (shoutout to the Jack Hammer combo) or even a simple facial treatment, this place rocks in terms of quality, service and attention to detail. Add to that some TVs to view your shows (shoutout to the mani-pedi crew; I remember at one point you were even offered headphones to listen to TV while getting work done), and this place is worth its weight in gold in terms of what they charge (even if the memberships had a slight increase in price during my time there). In fact, it was so good that I even brought my girlfriend along for her mani-pedi (she absolutely loved it). Definitely put a smile on my face. If I did have to criticize one thing about Hammer and Nails, it wouldn't be about this location (to be fair, I always scheduled my appointments here), but about the availability of locations in general. The memberships provided are perfect (if a bit costly) in what they provide-- if you are to remain in SoCal (or just so happen to cross paths with a location across the nation). Unfortunately, it is with this critique that I had to cancel my membership; while the service is stellar, and the membership transferable for use across the nation for any of the brand's locations, there is simply no presence of the brand in MN at the time of writing. Had there been, I may have kept my membership indefinitely. A weakness to be sure, but a testament to the brand's potential overall. If I do ever make any return trips to CA in the future (and my hair is running long), I'll definitely stop by just for old times sake. Cheers, guys, and take care! read more

I've been to the Hammer & Nails location in VA, and decided to give it another go at the Brea location here in CA for my birthday. Services I got was the sports pedicure and the premium cut. Everything was great from start to finish, really appreciate my pedicure lady (didn't get her name unfortunately), but she made me feel well pampered and relaxed, which is something I desperately needed. My only critic is I wish this place was a little more cleaner in the spaces that they work--mainly just the hair cutting area. I saw dust and uncleaned work spaces that made me wonder if the tools my hair stylist was using was even clean. Only saying this because you are paying a good amount of money for a luxury experience, and I feel like the business cleanliness should reflect that. Great place overall. read more

They have a quiet relaxing atmosphere with large screen TVs with headphones if you want and offer anything from bottled water to liquor as part of the experience. Women are welcome here but it's mainly a place for men to get their hair..nails or feet taken care of. The staff is excellent and professional. There are memberships available but not mandatory...but the perks are worth it. Also there is an app so you can make appointments and choose which services you want. Diana is truly a gem! From the second I sat in her chair, I felt so taken care of. She has this calming, friendly energy that instantly puts you at ease--and she's so detailed and gentle with everything she does. My feet have honestly never felt this soft or looked this good. The massage was amazing (seriously, I could've melted right there), and the polish came out perfect. You can tell she really takes pride in her work, and it shows. I've been coming here for a while and this review is long overdue. The service from start to finish is amazing. The girls who check you in are always super friendly and they always offer you a drink. Getting the Lux haircut is more than just a haircut. it's an experience. Lindsay and Tina are who I normally go to and they do an outstanding job. From the cut to the face treatment everything is top-tier. I've also had hand and foot treatments from Jenny, Kim and Olivia. We usually go to the Laguna Niguel location of H&N but decided to try Brea this time around. We were happy we tried it! This location is so bright and open. Everyone was so friendly. My technician, Jenny, was amazing! I got a pedicure and she almost put me to sleep twice. I will definitely be visiting her again. Came here as a walk in today , Monday morning around 9:45ish . I was greeted right away by a gentleman and Jennifer . I let them know i was just a walk in and not a member but looking for a haircut and if anyone was available. They let me know that Anjoulee would be open at 10:30. They gave me a run down of their services and member pricing but never pushed for membership or anything like that. They led me to the waiting lounge while giving me a tour of the facility. I really enjoyed that, you get that vip club feeling. Their waiting room is low lit with comfy deep set chairs with a huge screen tv and a remote! Definitely a plus. About 10:20 I was called by Anjoulee ready for my hair cut . Anjoulee was very accommodating, kind and definitely cared about what I was after with my hair . I let her know I just wanted to remove some over grown bulk to my sides with keep the weight through the top . She definitely drop some knowledge on what she sees was best for my hair as far as cutting it . She let me know using this technique would be the best for removing some weight but also allowing it grow to my desired shape. This was my first time getting a haircut with scissors and not clippers or getting a barber shop fade . Anjoulee was very down to earth and relatable , sweet and more than anything professional. My hair came out perfect . I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I definitely will be returning bi monthly to get my hair done by her . Thank you again. Booking online is super easy (no phone tag, which I love), and with a card on file, checkout is basically effortless--you just walk out looking fresh. Every single stylist I've seen here has been great, so you really can't go wrong. That said, Lindsey has been my go-to for the past few months and she's fantastic. The newest location of this barber shop in downtown Brea. Place is stylish, cozy and spacious enough. This location is so close to us and the parking is not a problem at all. The locations we had visited in westside had bad parking situations. They open long hours daily so it's very easy for us to book appointments at our desired times. TL;DR: Don't book with Chad. I wanted to surprise my partner with a unique, luxury grooming experience for his birthday, and after doing some research, I decided to give Hammer & Nails a try. They seemed to offer a premium experience, especially for bald men with beards, which felt perfect. I called a month in advance to carefully book and confirm all the services, spending about twenty minutes on the phone with a wonderful woman who helped me customize everything. I even followed up a few days before the appointment to double-check and make a few changes, again, great customer service on the phone. Unfortunately, my excitement turned into disappointment. After reading some mixed reviews beforehand, I was hesitant, but I gave the benefit of the doubt. I shouldn't have. Despite the thorough planning, Chad did not complete the services I specifically requested. One of the main parts of the experience was supposed to be a facial, which he simply decided not to do. No explanation, no heads-up...just skipped it. To make things worse, my partner told me that Chad shaved parts of his mustache without using shaving cream, which caused him pain and irritation. Apparently, Chad has a reputation for not following through, and the establishment failed to hold him accountable. If you're booking at Hammer & Nails, do not book with Chad. Save yourself the disappointment (and yourself the discomfort). read more

Yesterday I scheduled the Essential Tea Tree pedicure online with Dianna at the Brea location. I love the atmosphere of the place, such a chill and relaxing vibe. To add to that the five star rating is a big part of Dianna's attention to detail and skill. She really adds high quality to the service. I always leave feeling relaxed and refreshed. Was not pushy at all trying to sell the memberships either which I thought was great. He gave me a small tour of the facility and some of the processes before taking me to their waiting area. You do get a complimentary drink with the appointment which I thought was awesome. Kim did a phenomenal job taking care of my hands and feet. It had been years since getting a pedicure and I forgot just how amazing you feel afterwards. She did a great job explaining the process and products she was using and the benefits of it. Recently moved to Brea and needed a go-to barber shop. My wife suggested Hammer and Nails since it was nearby. When we got there, we were immediately greeted with a warm welcome! They gave us a short tour and offered us a complementary drink. We waited in the members lounge for a couple minutes before I was greeted by Maria, the stylist that helped me out. Let me start off by saying my visit was based primarily on the fact that I won a gift card at a golf event I attended last month. I love the concept and the idea behind the product, but with 3 kids in private in school, it's a luxury item I have to forego, plus I'm bald, so there's that. Anyway, I walked-in and was greeted pleasantly by the young lady. I booked a manicure and the premium beard grooming. I was conflicted regarding the services, but a 60min beard treatment sounded great. Let me start off my saying my manicure with Kaitlyn was great. She was friendly and the conversation felt natural. Although she did mention she was born in 2001 in response to part of our conversation. Jeez, I felt old, but we had a good laugh about it. I honestly have no complaints in regards to the manicure. I, like most do not get the pricing model. $50 seems like an insane amount of money for a very basic manicure. I get paying for the experience, but what experience? I was not given an option when it came to TV, no music... nothing. Which is fine, but where was the value? Again, I cannot stress how awesome Kaitlyn was. Once Kaitlyn finished I was introduced to Angie. Within 30 seconds of sitting in Angie's chair I knew I had made a grave mistake, and wished I had just gotten the super-premium mani and pedi. My experience with Angie was about the WORST experience I have ever had in a salon/barbershop. I honestly don't know where to start? The profane opening statements? Who drops an F bomb in front of new client knowing nothing about them? I've never had talking about my beard feel so stressful or confusing. The experience I received did not match up to what was advertised. Angie was full of confusing metaphors about life, and strange random noises in reference to what she was talking about. Angie kept saying look at me but don't look at me. Is that possible? Basically she wanted me to look in her direction but not make eye contact. When she asked me to look at her she kept saying "I know I'm ugly", which was extremely awkward. She asked me on two different occasions what my nationality was, and said that she can tell a person's nationality based on their hair, and how it grows? She asked about the person who normally styles my beard, I let her know a man who goes to my church. She asked how I met him. I let her know my relationship to him, and that I had "done his wedding". I am not sure what she was getting at. But, she said "what did you say?" I repeated myself, and said I had 'done his wedding'. She kept saying 'do you know what you're saying?' I was very confused, I literally had no idea what she meant. She asked me to say it again, but to 'really listen to myself' I was confused but I apologized and said again, she stood back looked at me as if to say 'well there you go'. I still had no idea what she meant. She finally asked me, what do you think you're saying when you say that? I said... I did his wedding... I officiated it. I married him to his wife... I did his wedding. At that point she was like a light went on, and stated, 'when you say it like that, it makes sense'. I don't know what she was trying to imply I was saying. If was some way an obscure sexual reference, I really don't see how she would get there. But my entire experience with Angie was awful. Including my beard styling. She started the trim on my beard with a 3, we agreed it was not enough, she immediately went from a 3 to 1! Are you kidding me? She asked what I thought. At that point what did it matter? The hair was gone. Not only did she shave it way WAY to close she took the side of my beard from my earline all the way to the edge of my jaw! I did not ask for that. BUT by far the worst WORST part was the straight razor shave. Angie should not be allowed to straight shave anyone. My neck is still raw and very sensitive to the touch. I get straight razor shaves fairly regularly and I have never been in this much pain. She barely used any type of lubricant, and kept using short quick chopping motion to shave my face and neck. She went against the grain, with the grain, side to side. My beard was so poorly done I was ready to go home and shave it off and start fresh. My wife talked me out of it. In my opinion I did not receive what was described in the package. I did not get any beard oil. The facial message consisted of globs of lotion rubbed into my face, followed by handfuls of water. It was slimy, and in no way relaxing. This was in addition to what felt like to waded up pieces of soggy paper that were placed poorly over my eyes. One fell off as she was shaving my head, but never replaced or mentioned. Beware if you're thinking of visiting Hammer and Nails in Brea. I did attempt to reach out on Monday morning to speak with a manager. But here we are Wednesday morning and still no contact. read more

Brittany is an expert at everything related to hair and beard grooming as well as facials. She always demonstrates great attention to detail. She can intuit what hairstyle would look good on you (if you're undecided about what look to go for). She also does great haircuts for my son. The manicure/pedicure staff are great as well. I get my hands and feet done at least once a month, and they're always looking well groomed. Also, being able to watch any TV channel I want during the services is a great perk. I paid $82.50 for a premium cut and when I asked to trim my eyebrows they said it would be an additional "partial wax." Added $27.50 and did a bad trim. I wish them well but if you pay that kind of money for a haircut shouldn't it include something as simple as a brow trim? $110 in Brea? A comb and scissors it takes 30 seconds. read more
