Vintage store with a huge selection. Be sure and check upstairs and downstairs cause there's lots of hidden gems. Staff walks around and checks on people shoplifting, which is not comfortable, but at least it keeps out the riffraff. The prices are somewhat reasonable to be on Melrose. Found some LV and Gucci sweaters for $600. Which is a little pricy even for vintage. But they were in excellent condition. read more

If you're into vintage clothing and I mean vintage-y vintage then this is the place for you. I'm talking an array of sports teams jackets straight from the 70's and 80's, an array of leather coats, baskets of scarves, dresses for days and everything in between. The store has two levels and every nook and cranny is filled. My friend found a nice scarf to complete a birthday look at a very fair price. Stopped by while in town for some shopping. We took some time to look through American Revel. The store is pretty big and they have a lot of all inventory. My daughter was able to find some really good pieces. The prices were pretty decent. Have to pay for parking. Would come here again. read more

I really wanted to love this store as the service was incredibly friendly. But it seriously bothers me that the pricing doesn't seem to be based on the piece and falls into very specific buckets like $30, $65, etc. This basically means you overpay for something worth $45. The quality of the merchandise was quite high and the taste level was good - so if the bucket pricing structure doesn't bother you, you should definitely drop in. For me personally - I struggle with arbitrary pricing, so I don't know that I'll be back. read more

The store is cute. The selection wasn't as large as I thought it would be from the website but my main reason I wouldn't return was the girl behind the counter was just super rude and unhelpful. I was coming with a styling client. I introduced myself first and ask some questions. If the staff member had been even a tiny bit helpful they likely would have sold several items and gotten many more sales when I returned with new clients. No skin off my back, plenty of other vintage stores in LA. Even cooler ones with nicer staff ones or two blocks down. read more

I walked in on a whim and I'm really glad I did. Although considerably more expensive than most thrift stores, it is possibly the cheapest place to shop in the area (the vintage shirt shop a couple doors down sells old t-shirts for hundreds of dollars, and the warehouse-style stores in the area could easily total one of your brief shopping trips in the thousands). American Rebel is quite large, and therefore intimidating, but I feel like starting from one end of the store and sticking to a section at a time is the way to go! I found a couple beautiful, albeit wonderfully tacky, articles of clothing here and left spending about forty dollars. The store is quite niche, yet there is a ton to sift through within the specific style the business operates under. If not for shopping, come here just to look around. Fun experience! read more

This place is awesome. Like, mind-blowingly awesome. I've wanted a pair of cowboy boots for the LONGEST time so I finally decided to make the purchase as a gift to myself. With extensive and thorough research (with help from Yelp) for over a year, I had narrowed down a few places. American Rebel, at the time, was the number one listing to pop up. One day after work I took the drive to look for a pair of cowboy boots. Parking on Melrose is possible after 6 PM but because, in my honest opinion, the street is fast-paced and narrow it's impossible to easily nab a spot in front of the store. No worries, drive around the even more narrow residential streets for metered parking on a side street. I parked, maybe, two blocks away and took a nice stroll back to the business. Inside...WOW. Blown away. It's so cool! I didn't catch the name of the person who greeted me (she was friendly, that I'll give her) but I spotted the boots almost immediately and proceeded to go upstairs and get lost in the world of leather. I wanted a pair of black and authentic cowboy boots and boy, oh boy, do you get your wish on styles and looks. I picked out about three pairs that were well under $60 each. The only downfall? None were in my size, even rounded up to a whole size. Not giving up hope I looked at the brown selection of cowboy boots. It was like that pair and I were meant to be. Perfect fit, perfect distress, perfect all around. $35 too?! FATE. While the cashier was with another customer I decided to look around at the clothing selections. I may not be the perfect size for their clothes but the selections are fantastic and gorgeous. Definitely worth scouring for the upcoming Halloween costumes. I'm told that new selections are placed out on the weekends so that's a bit of knowledge to keep tucked away. You'll see me again. read more

The inside is absolutely gorgeous. It's one of those places that I'll bring friends visiting from out of town simply for the ambiance of it. Every vintage thrift should be something like this... it's open and has a bit of a 60s feel to it. Prices are moderate for Melrose... there are other places that are far cheaper that have a far bigger selection and vice versa. Around the holiday season me and a few friends were in desperate need of quality items for family. American Rebel became our favorite place to stop by for so many of our needs. No matter if it was a trendy jacket for winter, sun glasses, or a top notch wig for Halloween American Rebel had everything. Lately I find myself becoming more and more irritable while shopping. I don't know if it's the LA crowds, or the service, or just my unwillingness to spend $400 on a crappy t-shirt. On a rare morning off, I wandered around Melrose before the crowds hit. Ah, I could enjoy empty shops and cafes, and the sight of the man with his pants down wriggling his privates up against a glass store front. My sincerest gratitude goes out to this man for not turning around as I walked by. Although I did get one hell of a butt shot that will haunt me for eternity. Where was I? I get so distracted by random nudity.. I stumbled into Slow and was immediately drawn in by: a) the selection of vintage/non-vintage items b) the price c) the quality The salesgirl who helped actually paid attention and offered suggestions and willingness to *help me* - what a novel idea for a retail store - sales staff that helps! Wooohoo!!! Love the decor of this place!!! So after our brunch, my friend and I meandered on Melrose to kill time. I was looking mainly for wedding accessories! We happened to stumble across SLOW because they happened to have a garage sale of sorts going on outside the store. He spotted a tie he liked ..for $1! =) We scrambled through the pile hoping to find another cool one..but did not find one. The store itself is so well lit and organized. Loved the vintage clothes, accessories and shoes! I was tempted to get an 80's prom dress and fix it up for the wedding..but decided against it... didn't have enough time to do more crafts. I also wanted to get a pair of knee high blue boots...but they were not my size. Very decent prices though. The dress was $42... and I could definitely see someone fixing it up and reselling for much more. I didn't get to walk away with anything because I was pressed for time. Every single time i go to Slow i always get my expectations high because i remember how much i like the setup and decor of the place. But then i remember why i didn't buy anything the time before...because the clothes suck and are so overpriced for what they are. And the whole point (for me) of going to a vintage store is because the clothes tell a story a lot of the time and have meaning to them, but all of the clothes at Slow are just cold and boring. Some stuff is cheap, but that's because it's not even good quality. I have to hand it over to them on the purse selection though. Definitely my style, and definitely affordable. It sucked because when i came this weekend they were having a Scion special event going on outside, and i guess if you test drove one of the cars, they'd give you a $15 dollar gift card to Slow. Good deal! Too bad i didn't even want anything at Slow so i didn't bother to waste my time. :/ It definitely has gone downhill. It used to be wayyy better and they used to have such a better selection. Racks and racks of clothes, but now it's just a big room with a few racks here and there. And then a bunch of mediocre, worn out shoes upstairs. If you're looking for a better bargain and more unique clothes, go for a walk to Jet Rag down the street. That's where you'll find much better stuff. 1 star for the nice store design, 1 star for having cute purses, and 1 star for uh.....because i'm in a good mood. :/ read more

I loved their selection of boots, although I wasn't there to buy any. They also had some pretty decent purses for cheap, but I think my favorite aspect of the store is the small but nice selection of vintage clothes. I found a cool bouclee sweater (black & white zebra stripes), a herringbone tweed vest, and a gorgeous cream & black chiffon halter dress... and each item was at a great price! The service was friendly and helpful, and I like the layout of the store. It's easy to get to things, and nothing is crammed in. That would drive me crazy! So I'll definitely be back here again to see what new little goodies they have for sale! read more
