    My C.

Hello, The location is at 2471 E Walnut St Suite #103, Pasadena, CA 91107. This is my first time donating platelets at this location. It's was a great experience all around. There was plenty of parking. Entrance is locked so you have to ring the bell. Check in was smooth and there were plenty of seats! Everybody was so nice and attentive. They constantly ask me if I was okay. At the end of my donation, they gave me a platlet donor tote bag which made my day!! I've donated once before at another location and didn't receive anything. Not even during promos. It was just a really nice surprise for me and made my day. I will be using my first ARC swag. I would recommend this location!

I came in early September back when the Snoopy collab was going on and the more I think about this visit I start realizing how it wasn't a comfortable experience. The front desk staff were very hostile to my girlfriend, who was waiting for me in the waiting room. She had followed me initially because this was my first time getting blood drawn so we weren't aware of procedure when they asked me into the room where they ask confidential questions about my health. And after understanding and acknowledging their instruction she went back to the waiting room only for them to continue lecturing her.... She wasn't donating blood because she's anemic, and honestly the nurse who has asked my confidential questions was trying to get me to convince her to donate blood. I explained how she is anemic yet the lady was persistent saying she should take more iron supplements--which she already takes. On top of that the lady drawing my blood wasn't very attentive. There were two other ladies who noticed when I was about to pass out and they were right on comforting me and bringing me back on my feet. Even when this nurse had said she will remove the needle as I was fading black she didn't until another nurse had told her to take it out. I wouldn't come again unfortunately and this experience definitely makes me hesitant to ever go donate blood again if this is how it's operated. Oh also after knowing I had almost passed out the guy at the front desk teased " same time tomorrow" which felt very insensitive.... I honestly got reminded to write this review after receiving calls about donating again.... reflecting on my experience made me confirm I won't be at this location....

I had a good time donating blood the other day. I decided to donate blood because it is something that I used to do quite often but recently just found I really wanted to donate blood and help others so I went in and blood in the Pasadena American Red Cross, I booked my appointment the day prior and there were a few openings for a whole blood so I booked it and had no issues. When I first survived, I immediately was greeted and signed in. I did my rapid pass online which I recommend someone doing if they are donating to make the process faster. I was in and out within an hour, which is great, especially because sometimes when I'm there, I am there much longer than an hour. I immediately was called in to get my, iron levels checked and then went to go start donating. The donation process was simple. Only took about 15 minutes then I went to go rest. The nurses were so nice and kind and were taking care of me when I felt a little lightheaded after donating. Overall, I had a great experience here at the Pasadena location. I've been here about four times and highly recommend anybody who wants to save a life to stop and donate!

It's so hard to attract donors during the holidays, and with this being Spring Break and Easter, I thought it would be slim pickings finding donors. However, the American Red Cross hit it out of the park on a national level with a collector snoopy shirt promoting blood donations. When I saw its availability, I immediately signed up for this past Wednesday, and saw that the donations are hitting a high for this time of year, when it's needed the most. If you love snoopy, sign up for a donation near you now, as the shirts are going fast and are limited supply. Remember no caffeine and lots of water for a fast donation and no minty gum, as it lowers your oral temperature below 97 degrees! Like they say, it feels like a pinch and is over in less than half an hour!

My BF and I decided to have a date at the Red Cross. The facility in Pasadena is super clean and quiet. April is the nice lady that helped and she was super informative and friendly. Donate blood and save a life !!!!!!! We even Got a free Tshirt after. Thanks everyone at Red Cross Pasadena !!!!!! Will be back.

I'm going to keep this update short and sweet! If you aren't giving back, paying it forward, helping others, then WTF are you doing?!?! I'd tell you, not enough! But hopefully you're already aware of that. I've been wildly passionate about donating blood for quite awhile now, it's one small way I give back among the many. It costs nothing! Which is how it became one of my most favorite ways to contribute at a young age (many moons ago ;) I hope you'd infuse your life with saving others or at the very least volunteering and giving back in some way. I've been a single mom my sons entire life, I work full time, and I have no excuse to not make time to help others and make a difference in some strangers life. I drop off a pint of blood every 56 days and get on with my day. It's such a minuscule donation of time and effort and if you're able to, I hope that you will too. One pint saves up to if not more than 3 lives. The entire process takes about an hour or less. I live a fairly active lifestyle and donating blood never compromises this. I cycle on average 200miles a week, run (I swear you can wake up the next day and run a marathon, keyword: run, maybe not race but run it zero issues), walk, hike, travel and I guarantee you at most you'll only need to take things lightly the day of. I can still bike, hike and walk plenty the day of a donation. Please, if you're able carve out the tiny tiny amount of time it takes to help someone, and ultimately save their life - do it! The Red Cross always hits a shortage in the Summer months it seems, so it's the perfect time to go make a difference. You'll feel incredible about it after, I promise!

Everyone one was lovely especially LoAnne... I'm two years post cancer treatment and they where so very careful and thorough in making sure it was okay for me to donate

    Maximum Security Blood Donation Entrance

The front entrance is locked. Steve the doorman was unusually difficult. The WiFi password is not posted anywhere. Phone service inside the maximum security blood donation center was terrible. I had an appointment, but for whatever reason, they did not have my information on their list. I would not recommend this location for future donations as the quality of care was below average.

This is a great place to give back to the community, especially in this time of critical blood shortages. The location is clean, comfortable and easy to navigate. Parking is easy and plentiful across from the main entrance. The Pasadena Donor Center can accommodate many kinds of blood donations (whole blood, platelets, plasma, etc.). You can easily book an appointment ahead of time through the American Red Cross website (https://www.redcrossblood.org/). I have been to this location a couple of times now to donate platelets. The staff here is very friendly and knowledgeable. This is a busy blood donation site, but they take the time to make sure that I'm comfortable and are very careful when they prick me to make sure it all goes smoothly. They explain everything along the way to put you at ease. Platelet donations take time. But they have personalized video screens on each donation chair with DVDs and streaming service subscriptions to entertain you during that time. I have been working on catching up on Marvel Universe movies here. They have many donor profiles posted near the entrance. I enjoy learning about their backgrounds and their passion for about giving back this way. Thanks for reading all the way down for my review. Please take a moment to vote below if you found it useful.

I am a long time blood donor and when I had complications from my C-section I received a blood transfusion, so it made the whole what you give you receive back mumbo jumbo true for me. I really just donate because I like the snacks, but if only that was the real reason. I do it because I can! So this time when I was asked to donate platelets and was told the whole procedure takes between 2 to 3 hours, you would think I would have said NO, but I said of course. I was nicely greeted at the door and was called into an actual private room in a matter of seconds upon my arrival. The gentleman doing my screening was engaging, funny and made this first time platelet experience for me very comfortable. First and foremost , go use the restroom because you are not moving or going anywhere for 2-3 hours, both your arms are inserted with needles , so grab a good long movie, which they have a large selections from and make yourself as comfortable as possible, which they do for you anyways. I was checked on several times , I was given more then enough blankets to keep me warm, was comfortable with the 4 pillows giving me support on my back and arms and the fact you are basically seated in a recliner, I probably would had fallen asleep had it not been for finally getting to see La La Land, which was the perfect afternoon movie. There is plenty of donor parking in their own lot and of course the best part of donating.. the snacks!!!!

    Donate in comfort :)

I was a first time donor at Huntington Hospital Blood Donor Center today :)…read more I was all set to donate my 89th pint to the American Red Cross (on Walnut in Pasadena) when the incompetency of their staff nearly cost people lives after they turned me down because they are unable to perform their jobs correctly. That's an entirely different updated review and email to them. Enter Huntington Hospital Donor Center :) I called them to see if they were open around 815A and accepting blood donors. They picked up right away and I was able to drive right over. I was so grateful and excited to come donate my first pint at the hospital I was born at. If you know me, you know I'm extremely passionate about saving lives through blood donation. I donate every 56 days and have for a good long time. I parked as directed in the East lot beside the ER and everything is clearly marked. You can't miss the center if you tried. I was immediately greeted, provided my ID, was given a mask, answered a quick 42 questions, was given a water and then taken to get started. I was in and out in no time. My blood pressure and iron were all in line with what they normally are. The miles of biking and running I do on a weekly basis produce a consistent BP that is lower than your average Joe. I've become clearly aware, that the Red Cross has been hiring people who aren't properly trained and up to speed when I receive all sorts of wacky readings. I'm usually right around 90/60 I'm never anywhere near 120/80 or much below 90/60. Last time Red Cross tried telling me my bp was too low 80/50 something... and today they tried telling me it was 126/80. In no world would these be my readings. I also eat 5 ounce bags of sautéed spinach several times weekly, cook with kale many times a week in addition to taking a daily iron supplement and ensuring I intake red meat the week of blood donations. Today the Red Cross tried telling me my hemoglobin level was 12.1(too low to donate) and then retested at 11.8 (lower after retesting) and I could not donate. Lo and behold at Huntington 15 minutes later it's 13.5 or 13.8 (I peeked over to check) and my BP was in line with what it usually is. I filled my bag in under 5 minutes, stayed the 15minutes you have to stay after and was even offered several gift cards (In N Out, Starbucks, and others OR a t-shirt). I couldn't believe they were giving out gift cards to donors. American Red Cross does not do this sort of thing and I confirmed it's on every visit. I was happy to have a t-shirt to help promote donating here but totally don't require a gift card, I'll save those for others. I'm not into helping others for a kickback, I enjoy giving back for zero profit. They really need a PR team, I'm more than willing to do it pro bono ;) I HIGHLY recommend donating blood here. It's the best experience I've had. Please pay it forward and make a little time in your day every 56 days to save some lives. Blood is always needed and with the hustle and bustle of the holidays, people tend to put it off. I'm asking you to please give back and encourage others who are able, to do the same. Huntington Blood Donor Center provided the perfect experience for a first time donor (to this location) and I have full confidence your experience will be nothing short of outstanding. Be sure to call to schedule or check their hours beforehand. Happy Holidays! Go save some lives!

A pharmacist came out and said they closed at 8 pm. Before leaving work, I checked the hours in three places online, including Google and Kaiser's own website in two different spots. All said 9 pm. It takes minutes to update hours online so you are not wasting people's time and money. That is basic integrity. There were two people inside waiting and she said they were urgent care patients, so they stay open until 9 pm for urgent care. Given that they had not updated their hours, you would think they could take two minutes to grab my prescription. I had received the text that it was ready and had just driven an hour to pick it up. Integrity feels rare these days. There are things I like about Kaiser and things that are ludicrous. Pros: everything is in one building. Referrals are easier than they used to be. Many appointments can be done online, which is a huge timesaver. The mental health practitioners I have interacted with have been kind and caring. Things that need improvement: I was on a waitlist for over a year to get a therapist. Now that I have one, appointments are still hard to get because there are very few available. My doctor recently had me do labs to change medication. I checked the results myself and saw I have hypothyroidism. No one called me to explain this. I only realized it because I looked up what the labs meant. When I read the symptom list and saw I have nearly all of them, I was shocked I had never been tested before. Ladies, get your hormones checked. Women's health care is still lacking. Which brings me to my IUD insertion. It was so agonizing I almost passed out, so they sent me home with medication to dilate before trying again. What they did not tell me is that the dilation medication caused worse pain than when I had kidney stones. Kaiser does not provide localized pain relief for IUD insertions, and I had already taken the maximum dose of ibuprofen. The first attempt was 40 minutes of agony. The second attempt involved 4 hours of severe dilation pain followed by another 35 minutes of insertion. That does not include the long wait times. They need better training or actual pain management for women. Lastly, I needed an EKG before starting a new medication. When I called, there were no appointments available for weeks, but my doctor needed it within a week. She told me to go to the Pasadena nurse clinic as a walk in and gave me the hours. I booked the far out appointment just in case and went as a walk in. The receptionist said they could not fit me in because they were full and only open two more hours. I asked when to come back and returned at the time he suggested. He then said the nurse who does EKGs would be leaving in an hour and could not see me. This was the second time I had followed their instructions and been turned away. I had rented a car just to get there. He sent me to Glendale. I drove 45 minutes in rush hour and arrived just before closing. The nurse there told me Pasadena should not have sent me away and that they are supposed to take walk ins but keep sending patients to Glendale. They were incredibly kind and saw me even though they were close to closing. I know Kaiser employees likely work in a tough, fast paced system. But with the massive amounts of money insurance companies make, you would think there would be more efficient care, accessible mental health services, better women's health care, updated hours, and policies that are actually honored. Too often patients are treated like cattle, rushed through to get to the next. Wouldn't it be nice if health care actually cared? A gal can dream...
