Kaiser Pasadena location No star for the lab lady Today Appointment at 9:50am Saturday I have been a Kaiser Permanente member for more than 15 years, and this is the first time I have felt the need to file a complaint about the service I received. Today, I went to the laboratory for a blood draw. I specifically requested a butterfly needle because I have very small veins and have difficulty with blood draws. Several laboratory staff members in the past have told me that I can request a butterfly needle for this reason. Unfortunately, the staff member who drew my blood today was extremely forceful when inserting the needle. She poked me so hard that I had to hold myself back from screaming because of the pain. I understand that drawing blood from small veins can sometimes be challenging. However, there is no reason for a patient to be treated so roughly. I expected the procedure to be performed carefully, gently, and professionally. This experience was very upsetting and disappointing. As a Kaiser member of more than 15 years, I have never made a complaint like this before. I believe this staff member needs to improve her technique and, especially, the way she handles patients during blood draws. Patients should not have to endure unnecessary pain because a procedure is performed without enough care or gentleness. This is the worse Kaiser. It needs to have everyone terminated and start over. I had an asthma attack and had to get to ER but the nearest is Kaiser Sunset so I drove to Urgent Care, hoping they could give me help. I went to UC and told the receptionist I was having an asthma attack. She told me to get a number and wait my turn. I told her you are only on #7 and I have #19. I really need to see someone. She told me to call 911 because she can't call 911. I left and went to pharmacy for help and the Pharmacist was the only compassionate person in the whole place. She rushed my refill of Spiriva and brought me water and I sat down because I started getting light headed and dizzy. She called the nurse from urgent care to bring a wheelchair since I was dizzy and have a broken wrist so I was afraid of falling.iThere was a nurse and an older woman who was pushing the wheelchair and she told me I should have gone to urgent care. I said I did but the wait to check in was too long and I am having a lot of wheezing and a heavy chest and breathing difficulties. She told the receptionist in urgent care that the original number I had was 19 and so when 19 comes up that would be me. She also told the receptionist she did not know why I went to pharmacy and she said something to the effect that I went to complain there. I am happy I went there because the Spiriva helped my breathing and was told I could use the albutural more. I waited til my dizziness subsided and heard them finally call my number and I walked out and drove myself home with one hand. I will NEVER go to Pasadena urgent care EVER AGAIN ! And I told my husband he will never go there either! We will only go to pharmacy and lab!!!! If I was able to rate Pasadena Kaiser a ZERO, I would have. I have been a member for 53 years and my late husband was a surgeon for Kaiser. He also started the first hospice for Kaiser Hayward and to be treated like this is appalling. read more

Great staff interaction at reception for department 41 with Melanie. I get one of my meds from Canada as it is not covered by insurance and only costs $1 a pill vs in the U.S. $45 per pill. To use CanadianPharmacyKing.com I need a physical signed script to send them and Kaiser only uses electronic scripts. Unfortunately due to the strike the RN's who normally handle this are not available and Melanie took the time to locate the backup team member (which took a min) to get my prescription done today while she still checked in other patients! read more

If you're seeking mental health services because you're going through a hard time, I would stay away from JASMINE HASMIG TOLMAJIAN LMFT. She cares nothing about human beings or maybe she just bases it off of the type of insurance you have because she made a big deal of that. I went to her because I was feeling very very low, was feeling in a very dark base and urgently needed to talk to somebody. As soon as I met her, she looked like she was having a bad day. So I asked her how her day was going. She said busy with an annoyed tone. When someone's there to talk to you about their deepest, most darkest problems and feelings, you telling them you're busy is not a good way to start. She should know that. She works in Mental Health. I personally feel that she profiled me and felt that my life was disposable. She used words like she was busy. And she also said " they added you to my workload" .. I had started opening up to her for about four minutes about some of the darkest things I was feeling and what was happening in my life. All for her to interrupt me and tell me that she wasn't listening because she was responding to urgent email. So she asked me to repeat myself all over again. That was strike three. As low as I was feeling, I valued myself more than to be treated that way. She clearly does not care about people or maybe she's extremely overworked. Instead of patient or client she calls it workload. If the string that I was hanging on by that day was a little bit thinner, the result of that interaction could have been detrimental. But I'm stronger than that. But I am writing this review so that people notice stay away from her because what if the next person's thread isn't as thick as mine. I'm sure she would be happy because she would be less busy and her workload wouldn't be as heavy. But people like that shouldn't be working in Mental Health. I filed a grievance, but I also filed to report her to the board. ALL LIVES MATTER. And I will advocate for that. Oh, and to top it off, I read the after summary notes and she lied about me and about what happened. Which makes me feel even more disrespected. read more

This review is for the pharmacy. After being stressed for having a medical emergency, I was waiting for my prescription. The people who checked me in had very little empathy when I told her I couldn't hear through my left ear and barely raised her voice. She looked at me like I was stupid. After waiting, I went to check out and was feeling very ill and looking forward to taking my first dose of medicine. I asked the person who was ringing me up if they had any water, a water machine with cups. She said we don't have water here. I asked if I went to urgent care do they have a water machine that I could use and she said you could ask, but I don't know if they'll give you any water. While she's saying this she can tell that I'm uncomfortable and tired, but could care less. These people who work at this pharmacy really need a lesson and customer service. These larger organizations like kaiser really make me wish that there was a smaller pharmacy I could go to where people actually gave a crap that they're serving people who are ill. read more

I drove an hour in traffic after work to get to the Kaiser Pasadena Pharmacy by 8:45 pm, relieved I had made it in time. When I arrived, the pharmacy doors were locked. A pharmacist came out and said they closed at 8 pm. Before leaving work, I checked the hours in three places online, including Google and Kaiser's own website in two different spots. All said 9 pm. It takes minutes to update hours online so you are not wasting people's time and money. That is basic integrity. There were two people inside waiting and she said they were urgent care patients, so they stay open until 9 pm for urgent care. Given that they had not updated their hours, you would think they could take two minutes to grab my prescription. I had received the text that it was ready and had just driven an hour to pick it up. Integrity feels rare these days. There are things I like about Kaiser and things that are ludicrous. Pros: everything is in one building. Referrals are easier than they used to be. Many appointments can be done online, which is a huge timesaver. The mental health practitioners I have interacted with have been kind and caring. Things that need improvement: I was on a waitlist for over a year to get a therapist. Now that I have one, appointments are still hard to get because there are very few available. My doctor recently had me do labs to change medication. I checked the results myself and saw I have hypothyroidism. No one called me to explain this. I only realized it because I looked up what the labs meant. When I read the symptom list and saw I have nearly all of them, I was shocked I had never been tested before. Ladies, get your hormones checked. Women's health care is still lacking. Which brings me to my IUD insertion. It was so agonizing I almost passed out, so they sent me home with medication to dilate before trying again. What they did not tell me is that the dilation medication caused worse pain than when I had kidney stones. Kaiser does not provide localized pain relief for IUD insertions, and I had already taken the maximum dose of ibuprofen. The first attempt was 40 minutes of agony. The second attempt involved 4 hours of severe dilation pain followed by another 35 minutes of insertion. That does not include the long wait times. They need better training or actual pain management for women. Lastly, I needed an EKG before starting a new medication. When I called, there were no appointments available for weeks, but my doctor needed it within a week. She told me to go to the Pasadena nurse clinic as a walk in and gave me the hours. I booked the far out appointment just in case and went as a walk in. The receptionist said they could not fit me in because they were full and only open two more hours. I asked when to come back and returned at the time he suggested. He then said the nurse who does EKGs would be leaving in an hour and could not see me. This was the second time I had followed their instructions and been turned away. I had rented a car just to get there. He sent me to Glendale. I drove 45 minutes in rush hour and arrived just before closing. The nurse there told me Pasadena should not have sent me away and that they are supposed to take walk ins but keep sending patients to Glendale. They were incredibly kind and saw me even though they were close to closing. I know Kaiser employees likely work in a tough, fast paced system. But with the massive amounts of money insurance companies make, you would think there would be more efficient care, accessible mental health services, better women's health care, updated hours, and policies that are actually honored. Too often patients are treated like cattle, rushed through to get to the next. Wouldn't it be nice if health care actually cared? A gal can dream... read more

I recently switched over to KP due to a job change. My initial experience with the KP app was glitchy, although the customer service reps are very friendly in walking me through troubleshooting but it was still problematic. While waiting for the password to reset the account to be sent via ground mail (?!), I got sick and had to visit the urgent care. I was relieved to find that the urgent care was not too busy on a Thursday night, the attendant quickly checked me in and I was on my way to see a doc in 10 mins. She breezed through examination and asked I send samples to the onsite lab which is super efficient. The very next day I received results and went back to the same location for Rx. The entire experience was nothing shy of efficient and streamlined. I was very pleased to receive a followup phone call from the urgent care physician the next afternoon. Coming from Blue Shield, I definitely appreciate being able to received care in the same building and on the same day. The fact that the lab is in the same building is a complete game changer for me - I always dread having to wait 2-3 hours for blood tests. read more

I'm sure these kinds of policies make the employers who pay for the health plans happy. My primary care physician is also the worst. Clearly overworked and doesn't care about her patients. I came to them because someone placed a device in my system it's called bio hacking. I asked the Dr to help remove device in my system by doing various test after explaining my situation to them I was on Medi-Cal. My benefits ended up being ineligible for the service after I told him about my situation. I had no problem nor did I have any notices letting me know that my benefits were being canceled. I found the GPS tracking device in my car. It wasn't the first one I found two of them one underneath my seat and underneath my dashboard, I showed my doctor the GPS tracking device and I made a police report. Pasadena police has done nothing about it. I had to wait for the rep to get to the counter to be checked in. He wanted to turn me away because he said I was late, but I was standing at the front of the line waiting for them to check me in for 10 minutes after doing so he was communicating with the doctors assistant the doctors assistant wanted to turn me away as they said that I was late, but I was standing there waiting for someone to check me in because no one was at the desk I was seen, and I explained my situation after explaining my situation. My benefits to Medi-Cal were canceled. read more

Supposed to have 1 yearly physical covered but the dr ordered extra blood tests without speaking to me about them so I had to pay extra co pays on top of my $700 monthly premiums. Prescriptions cost more than CVS. On top of that I asked for my blood type and they said "Blood type testing is a covered benefit only when it is medically necessary. Knowing your blood type is usually necessary if you are donating or receiving blood or an organ, or if you are pregnant." I am male. The Dr. / hospital should have my blood type on file. My OB room had someone else's blood sitting in it then going to the labs, I had to take my 2.5 year old to pee and it was the only bathroom available and PEE ON THE FLOOR. I had Kaiser all my life and this is a location I go to because my primary doctor is here, and every time I come I'm actually never disappointed. sometimes, some days is really busy but that's how it is if you go during the week, otherwise, if you come on a Saturday, I do highly recommend literally it was crickets inside the building no one was there. I am happy to schedule my appointment on a Saturday because I was in and out and it was so quiet it was so lovely!! . I also had a prescription to pick up and it was ready less than 20 minutes so if you do want to come to Kaiser, I will recommend the weekend but even if you come during the week it is still ok because here it's always a fast process and they have really good customer service here when you check in everyone is always nice and friendly. They also have a lot of parking and handicap parking as well as needed. The parking structure or garage has around two or three levels and it's not a long walk to entrance. I feel like I have the best doctor at this location, and she always takes care of me, and is always concerned, with the best personality and compassionate. In what was one of the most bizarre verbal exchanges I have ever had here this one took the cake. I showed up for my bi-monthly INR lab work in room 23 here in Pasadena 2 minutes after my scheduled time. I was the only person in the check in line that only had a window open. I waited for over minutes while the person behind the counter finished what ever she was doing on her cell phone. She finally looked up and noticed I was there and asked for the next person in line. Being that I was the only person other than her in the room I assumed she meant me. After she checked me in which took longer than usual she gave me a warning that the powers that be sent out an edic that coming there would be a price to pay for anyone over 5 minutes late for their appointment noting that I was six minutes late for mine. I didn't mention that she was responsible for at least of those minutes. I let it go and let her get back to her cell phone. This woman needs to stay away from the pharmacy. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. David Wu since August 2018, and I can confidently say he is one of the most exceptional physicians I've encountered within the Kaiser Permanente system. I first saw Dr. Wu at the Montebello Medical Office, followed him to Baldwin Park, and now continue my care with him at the Pasadena Medical Office, where he recently transferred. That alone should speak to the level of trust and confidence my wife and I have in his care. I'll admit, I was hesitant to write this review--only because sharing something this positive feels so personal. But I truly believe it's important for the community to know, especially if you're someone who is struggling to find a professional, caring, and genuinely compassionate doctor. The world needs to know about physicians like Dr. Wu. He has an incredible ability to explain medical information in a way that's clear, understandable, and reassuring. He takes the time to answer questions thoroughly and has never once made me feel rushed--not in over seven years. Even with a busy schedule, he makes each visit feel personal and unhurried. Avoiding the long line on the 4th floor, I checked my son in by the kiosk. I saw a welcome screen with my son's name, followed by a screen with his doctor's picture and name. All was set, we thought. Waited 20 minutes and since there is absolutely no one in the Pediatrics waiting area, I walked back out to the adult/family practice (?) area where there was a representative to ask what was taking so long. Found out that we were not checked in all along, and the doctor was now on lunch and we were the last appointment of the day at 10:50 am. No one even called or stuck their head out while we were waiting. Surely we were not the only ones to have an experience that was an absolutely big waste of time. I would give zero stars if not for the representative who patiently tried to book another appointment but could not make one because all appointments were only during school hours. I've always gone to the Baldwin park hospital or the clinic in West Covina. This time circumstances led me to the Pasadena urgent care and I couldn't have had a better experience. First off I was impressed by the look and feel of the facilities...it's clear that designers made every effort to remove the clinical feel as best as they could. The exterior (all bricks) is hiding the wonderful surprise of a center courtyard that is open to the sky housing a little Starbucks and tables for sitting. The rain prevented us from hanging out there, but I'd definitely come out there if I had to visit again. Overall we were treated very well. Receptionists, nurses, doctors - all were super friendly, attentive, and not once did I feel rushed or dismissed. read more

I've been a Kaiser Member for well over a decade+ and have always enjoyed the experience. I am the type of patient that comes in usually only once a year to get my clean bill of health. I typically like to get my full panel of bloodwork, PAP, physical body exam, and address any needs that I may be experiencing. I have been doing this every year for as long as I can remember with KP. This morning, I had an incredibly disappointing experience with a doctor that was dismissive and condescending. I was so taken back that I asked the nurse (she was lovely!) for somewhere to provide feedback. I have been toggling with the idea of potentially leaving Kaiser to explore other healthcare options and this morning's experience just moved me to finalize that change during open enrollment. This doctor could benefit from some additional training in patient empathy, bedside manners, self-awareness in "reading the room" as she was unable to recognize that she was making me increasingly uncomfortable, and the discernment of appropriate decorum. read more

Today Monday. I decided to go to the lab @ Kaiser Pasadena It's been almost 2hrs Waiting. I had to go the bathroom . Lost my turn and had to wait again. I was waiting a lady told me that it's better to make an appointment . I wish I knew. when they finally called me, the lap tech Evelin Vascones was very rough. Pediatric needle she gave me the needle, and when she took off the needle, she took it a crooked so I can felt the needle all the way out. Awful experience ! As a 50 year old woman, I was denied a mammogram a pap smera and a colonoscopy. They did a blood draw for which I paid and additional fee, and later received a bill for $1,100.00 which they failed to advise me of. Kaiser also denied a dispute of the bill. Needed to bring my mom in for a scheduled appointment. Plenty of free parking in the structure located next to the medical building. Temperature is checked prior to letting you into the building. Get your number and wait to be called to the window to be checked in. Waiting area fair size. Seats are spaced accordingly in order to provide spacing between patients. You can wait outside of the waiting room if you prefer, but I don't know if you will be able to hear your number being called. Once your number is called, you are checked in and have to wait again to be seen by the technician who will be doing your test. Wait wasn't very long though. Small waiting area for family members next to the procedure room. All in all, it was fairly organized and we were out of there much quicker than I anticipated. read more

On a Friday afternoon in Late October, I had an appointment with Dr Shung for a Pap smear. I was able to find parking on 2nd floor and walked over to medical office. While waiting for the elevator, I did a mobile check-in which is so convenient. The wait for elevator was quick to 4th floor. I waited 15min for my test. The nurse was nice and took my blood pressure and weight. Next the doctor explained the Pap smear and if I had any questions. She was very thorough.
