I just started my donation journey late last year. The staff here in Pomona are very attentive always making sure you're comfortable.

I recently donated platelets for the first time at this location. Every staff member I interacted with was so friendly and kind. As a first time platelet donor, I learned about some of the common side effects that some women encounter such as feeling lightheaded and nauseous. I experienced this during the donation. The staff checked on me very often to ensure the side effects were going away and provided calcium tablets.They have Netflix and other amenities available during the donation. The donation period is about 2 hours. Aside from the small blip of me not feeling too well for a brief period, everything else went great. The staff also provided me with a t-shirt and some goodies for being a first time platelet donor which was very sweet. I will be returning to this location. read more

TLDR: If I'm donating my blood and time essentially for free, basic respect for my time should be the bare minimum. Instead, they've consistently demonstrated they can't even manage that. I donated platelets and plasma at this center every few months for over a year. Despite always scheduling appointments, I'd routinely wait 30-60 minutes after checking in, followed by additional waiting while they prepared equipment. The entire process from check-in to actually beginning donation typically took over an hour. After enduring several exceptionally long waits, I reached my breaking point. With young children at home, this wasn't a reasonable use of my time. I took a break from donating that lasted nearly two years. When I finally decided to resume donating, I scheduled an appointment and drove twenty minutes to the center. After waiting twenty minutes (which was actually fast by their standards), staff informed me their machines were broken and they couldn't collect my donation. When I asked if the equipment had just failed, they said no. So the machines had been down long enough for someone to call and cancel my appointment? Yes, but no one had bothered to do so. I understand that equipment fails and communication breakdowns happen. But when I step away from donating specifically because of these recurring problems, and THE. VERY. FIRST. TIME. I attempt to restart this routine I encounter the exact same negligence. Maybe I'll try again in another couple of years. Or maybe I'll find somewhere else I can donate blood. read more

First time at this location which is one of their headquarters. Not only do they take blood donations, but they also process the blood here. Normally I donate at a mobile location, but this was the first time visiting their main facility. Nice building with plenty of parking. Very close to Cal Poly Pomona. The staff here is super friendly and you can tell they enjoy what they are doing. After donating, they have a nice resting area called the Canteen with tables/chairs and a good selection of snacks and drinks. I do Power Red donations and I like it here because they have recliners for you. At the mobile donation centers they use flat medical tables, which aren't as comfortable as the recliners. Definitely will try to come here for my future power red donations. read more

Bad bad service today. I have donated 3 bags of blood and today I was supposed to donate the fourth one. Not sure what happened, but the old lady at the front desk was grumpy at best. I had told her that my rapid pass was frozen multiple times that I could not get through on my phone. At the same time, I was on the meeting with my team. Yeah right, I even gave my time to donate the blood while having team meeting. Without any compassion the grumpy grandma said, hang up your phone and get the rapid pass done. WTF??? (In my mind) And then after I complained, I said "I could not do that!" And the old witch said to me ,"anyway your appointment will be cancelled after 15 minutes." Wow knowing that I only have 1 minute left, this old grumpy lady rather lose me as blood donor rather than being nice to keep me as a blood donor. I said, "I could not do that, so you don't want my blood?" She just shrugged me off. I dashed myself out and said ,"what an ass!" Called red cross to complain, that's not how you are supposed to treat a donor. I told the customer rep, if this was not taken care, I would not give my blood anymore, eat that blood shortage, put all those karma to the bad bitch grandma. I have told the customer service if the old grandma was a volunteer, I could understand her having an attitude. I am hoping that's the case, but if she's the employee, she deserves to be fired on the spot. read more

Donating blood is important, truly something everyone should try and do on a regular basis. not everyone can, not everyone is eligible but these things are not known unless you make the attempt. One donation can save up to three lives, which might even be someone you know. This center is clean and ran pretty smooth. Great staff working here and they genuinely care about the donor experience. Been in this building half a dozen times or so, for training and other purposes and I have to say that the group here has left a lasting impression on me. I've been donating blood to the Red Cross for over 8 years and I've had positive experiences with most of them and with this location. Last week when I went to do a power red donation, the receptionist was incredibly rude and playing on her phone when I was trying to check in. Then when I was about to start donating, the nurse did a procedure incorrectly, which led to her unable to continue with the donation process. I dont know whats changed at this location but my daughter has signed up 2 separate times to donate here and both times were bad experiences... she has donated elsewhere and has never had an issue. Here they could not find her vein for blood Donation and then again today could not find her vein for platelet donation. She came home In tears with all the marks they left her trying to find her veins.... lots of pokes on her arm bend then they moved down to her wrist fishing and digging in both locations and still nothing... For the last few years I've made it a point to stop by and donate blood whenever I could. Recently they asked if I was interested in donating double red blood cells. The process takes a bit longer, and it does have some minor side effects (nothing painful, just interesting tingling acidic flavor in your mouth), but well worth it. Pros: - Easy to make your appointment online - Plenty of parking for donors - Lovely snacks - Super friendly staff - They are set up to take whole blood, double red blood cells, and platelettes. If you would like your time respected and your appointment times kept, don't come here. Coming here was a complete waste of my time. As a blood donor for more than half my life for various organizations, this location by far was the worst experiences I've had for donation. I was disappointed that the worse donation experience I've had is at an actual Red Cross office! Regular donors know that whole blood donations is fairly straight forward and will take no longer than 1 hour. I had the day off from work and made an appointment for 11:00 am to donate. I needed to get my son by 12:45 as he had a minimum day, so I thought I would have plenty of time to donate, pick up some lunch and get him. Boy was I wrong. I checked in before 11:00 am, and was told to take a seat in the hall. More than 45 min later, they finally called me and the girl said I was there really early. What? I told her my appointment was at 11:00 am and she said the system shows me at 4:45 pm. She was apologetic and tried to process me as fast as she could. When she asked if I did the rapid pass I said no (lady in the check in didn't mention anything about that) so I had to spend more time answering all the pre-donor questions I could have done while waiting 45 min. Once I was finally seated in the chair, that girl ended up attending to another patient and leaving me in the chair alone. After waiting some more, I realized I wouldn't be done in time to get my kid, so I walked out. I won't stop donating to the Red Cross, but will not recommend coming to the Pomona Red Cross location. They obviously don't have their act together and their appointment system is faulty. read more

They meet and exceed all expectations in terms of respect, rigor, seriousness & thoroughness in the process (volunteer training or triage for blood work). Location is awesome and very hidden albeit next to cal poly Pomona. I'm a long time and loyal blood dinner I've donated about 34 times. I've donated here about 30 times and it's always been a very smooth donation. Staff is very attentive and very courteous always making sure I'm okay and they're being very responsible and sanitary. The bloodmobile has been coming to my work for years. I donate any time I'm able to and the staff has always been great. Each time, they are always timely and respectful. I've even came without an appointment and they still fit me in to work with my schedule. The only downside is a minor pinprick but they make that up through offering incentives like fair tickets, free lunch (or lunch vouchers), and oh yeah... you're saving lives. read more

NEVER AGAIN!!! Worst place ever! DO NOT donate blood here!!!!! 1. It's been 2 months since donating here, and the big bruise on my arm is still there! I walk around and people think I'm a Heroin addict! 2. When I made the appointment, they promised 2 soccer game tickets, 2 laugh factory tickets, and some free food coupons. When I got there to donate, they had ran out! Not cool! So they took down my address and told me they will mail it to me. 2 weeks passed, nothing! So I called and once again they said they will mail them to me, nothing! 2 more weeks passed, called again, same empty promise, nothing! 2 months later, still nothing. I did however, received a letter telling me to donate blood again! I see how this works: dangle the carrot, lie alot, but never give the carrot! what a scam! 3. A particular nurse that worked there had a huge attitude, wouldn't answer any of my questions during the process. Um, I'm here out of the goodness of my heart and you are not paying me for my blood. Note that this review is for the brick and mortar facility, not the bloodmobile based out of here. I've donated about 2 gallons of blood here over the last three years. The process is relatively painless, then you get to gorge yourself on cookies and juice and go home with a warm fuzzy feeling of knowing you have just performed an anonymous selfless act. Plus you become a SUPER cheap date -- two tequila shots and you're outie! This donation center is heavily sponsored by KLOS radio station, so they have a lot of memorabilia from KLOS blood drives on the walls. The phlebotomists are all very competent here, I feel like the ones that get sent on the mobile unit are less senior since that's a less desirable position (which is why I almost never participate in blood drives). They have a pretty big apheresis area where you can chill out and watch DVDs while you donate platelets, or you can donate whole blood in the less entertaining main area where there are no TVs (unlike the West LA facility!). Note - in the entire time I've been coming here, they've never had an ALYX unit, so if you're trying to do your double donation, go somewhere else. Also, my secret trick to always being hydrated enough -- chia seeds! Like on the chia pet, they allow you to retain a lot more water than usual, so you'll always have quick 6 minute (or less!) donations. Here's why, if you're a first time donor they will ask that you give the following information about yourself, Driver's license Social security number Date of birth Address Phone number Medical history Where you've been and travel and many more personal info. Just like most people who donate, I wanted to be a generous person and perhaps help save some lives, but I tell ya please think twice about donating blood to the Red Cross in particularly this 100 Red Cross Cir Pomona location. I went there on 11-08-2018 to donate and let me tell ya it was the worst experience ever!! The nurse who draws my blood was supposedly very experienced but she total screw-up my phlebotomy, she kept repeatedly jabbing the giant 18 Gauge needle deep into vein with a 45 degree angle trying to get access to my blood, I told her "what heck you're doing jabbing me like that?" I told her I am not in the medical field but common sense said you don't insert a needle with a 45 degree and deep like that because the needle will just exit the bottom of the vein, I told her you're suppose to go parallel so that the needle stays inside the vein where blood flow is. She end up puncturing the top and several parts of the bottom of my vein. I was so upset and in pain but stay calm and simply told her that nurse to stop and end the phlebotomy. I went to the front desk to ask to speak to a supervisor, my intention to let them know where they screw up and give some suggestion on how they can improve their procedure this bad incident from happening to other donor but instead, everyone there didn't want to hear any of my suggestion. Dawn Leon, who was supposedly most senior person at the office at the time was really defensive and rude to me, she told me I don't know anything about phlebotomy, everyone working there is highly trained and calls the security on me for whatever reason. Can you imagine! you trying to be a good person by going to the Red Cross to donate blood, they end up severely damaging your vein and calls security on you because you're in pain and wants to voice your suggestion? Well that's exactly what happen to me, they made me feel like a criminal there that day. I am telling you, why subject yourself to this kind of treatment, what do you get out of it? Some drinks and snakes? If the Red Cross really needs your blood have them pay you money for it or donate it directly to the people you personally know, call me messed-up if you like but after this whole bad experience that's where my opinion stands right now, I am sure you'll agree with me if you went through what I went through. read more

This building houses the Pomona Donor Center- SoCal Region HQ. It's located right next to Cal Poly Pomona. The place is huge and neat. When you enter, the security will welcome you and will ask you to sign-in. I attended an orientation here last Wednesday. It was held in a conference room located on the 2nd floor where the Red Cross sign is located (Red Cross you can see from the outside of the building). It was a pretty cool experience. If I was a vampire, I'd totally want to work here. Like no kidding, I've been to some shady blood drive places, but the people at the Pomona Red Cross got it wired! I've been going to them for over 5 years now, and every single time, it's been an awesome experience. I always try to go ever 112 days to use the Alyx machine ... for whatever reason, I feel SO much better when I give 2 units ... plus I've found out they can use my blood for babies that need it! Added bonus! I really like the people that work there, and everyone is super nice and professional ... honestly, they treat me like part of the family. I'd donate way more if I could, but since I can't, it's every 112 days .... I may start giving platelets this year. So if you have some extra blood you want to donate, this is the place! read more
