I like it. They're friendly, efficient, and flexible for schedule and services. One thing - they're the sleep lab; the appointments and coordination with the cardiovascular specialists goes through their offices - which may cause confusion with billing and insurance. Best advice is to keep both in mind and pay attention to them separately, so you don't get a surprise. read more

Well my doctor never said I needed one so I told them that and they said "you don't know what a prescription is?" Like...no I just was never told I needed one. I was referred here by my primary care physician. I went for my initial consultation appointment which was ok but Dr. Hoffman was not that personable. They scheduled my sleep study and my follow overnight which was when I was hooked up on a CPAP to see what levels it needed to be set on. The technician was great. I chose to purchase my equipment online on my own because it was half the price of what the company they referred me to was charging. My biggest complaint is that there was absolutely no follow up with me. No contact what so ever to help ensure that I was adjusting to sleep therapy. It really seems to me that they just get you in for the money, which my first sleep study was $7500 and the second was a whopping $8000. It was all billed to my insurance company but I think they are all about the money and not really the care of the patient. I would think twice about going there. read more

This place can't even make an appointment for you correctly. Was told to come in twice for a sleep study and upon walking in, told there was no record of the appointment and it's at a "later" date. The technician lacked basic customer service skills; assumed a name and pulled out some other persons information at first. I have no idea what is going on at this place and how it stays in business but the level of incompetence and lack of communication is BEYOND belief. I had a very questionable experience here. I went for a sleep study and had a sequence of troubling interactions which led me to start over at a second place. I will sum up my experience with here a questionable in home sleep test was $1600. At the second place it was $600. While I understand different doctors price things differently, this kind of difference leads you to believe American Sleep Medicine is not living up to the Hippocratic Oath! The second place I went allowed for a comparison of pricing, patient advocacy, doctor acumen and more. I would highly advise anyone to explore service provider options! read more

Disregard past favorable reviews based on good experiences with staff. They're all gone. So are two of the three doctors who practiced there. This place had some sort of train wreck around mid-September and has not addressed the problem, whatever it was, anywhere near adequately. They had a top corporate trouble-shooter fly in from Florida for a week to try to straighten things out, but she then became unreachable. (Big insight from the quality management literature, I think Philip Crosby: a company with great trouble-shooting and customer complaint resolution specialists tends to have lousy quality. Those Fixit people are getting too much practice.) They just hired one new front desk person, Wanda, who is thoroughly commendable but in way over her head. The one doctor who is still there, Dr. Hoffman, is good but overwhelmed, and his office manager, a perditious virago (look it up! I won't use the word HE used to describe her, but she's still there), got really nasty with me about an old bill I hadn't paid, for the totally lame (in her view) reason that I'd never received it. On further inquiry, she and the collections agency couldn't produce a copy, which may help to explain why I never got it. (Legal action and / or a formal complaint to Medicare may follow.) Of course American Sleep Medicine could take some responsibility for smoothing out confusion that can easily arise from this weird billing arrangement, but they don't -- and didn't, even before almost everyone abruptly departed. Had a split-night polysomnogram workup with them. They were horrible. I asked one simple question: how much is this test? To this day, I have not received an answer. They billed my insurance about $3,500 after the test. Then the resident physician ordered a CPAP using his own specifications and without consulting me about what I would like to have. I was referred to American Sleep Medicine by my doctor. I have since told my doctor she should not refer anymore patients to this facility. From the order of events and the lack of professionalism by American Sleep Medicine I would NOT recommend going to their facility. I would hate for anyone else to have to go through what I have gone through with constantly having to call them for updates or issues with billing that have not been corrected, etc.. Just a few things I've gone through in my dealings with them. 1. At my initial consult I was called back to an office where the gentleman started talking. Having not introduced himself, I interrupted him to ask who he was. Turns out he was the doctor who then advised me the front desk should have told me who he was. 2. During our 10 minute conversation, after telling him why I was there, he bashed my insurance company because they typically only approve and "in home" study as opposed to the "in lab" study. I felt like I was pushed out the door and on my way. 3. I had an "in lab" study scheduled just in case it was approved and on the day I was supposed to go (I had to be there at 9pm) I received a call at 4pm stating that my insurance only approved an in home study and asked me when I wanted to pick up the equipment. Not having my calendar near me I said I would call back. I called back a few days later and they wanted me to come in on a Monday at 11am. I told them that I work full time so that was not possible. We settled on a date and I asked if I needed to allow for additional time when picking up the equipment and they said it would take about 20 minutes. 4. I arrived for my appointment to pick up equipment & the analyst went through everything with me as to what to do with the equipment & told me I would have to wear it for 3 days and return it first thing on the 4th day. This was not communicated to me when I scheduled the appointment and I would have scheduled differently had I known I needed to bring it back first thing the next day. Because of the lack of information I was late to work on the 4th day since they don't open until 8am and I get to work around 7:30am daily. They also made me pay $250 up front for the equipment or I couldn't have taken it with me. Not typical when you have insurance that does not have a copay. Typically the claim is processed and then you are billed and you'd pay the provider. 5. On the 4th day I arrived at 8:03am (they open at 8am) There was nobody up front and I had to wait 15 minutes for someone to show up so I could leave the equipment with someone. Since I was accountable for it I was not comfortable just leaving it on the front desk. 6. During my time in picking up the equipment the analyst advised that once the equipment is dropped off it'll take a few days for the doctor to read the results and that I should hear from someone by end of the following week. Seemed reasonable to me, except that I never heard from anyone that week so I called back the following Monday morning. The office told me the doctor still hadn't read the results and that he should within the next few days. Two days later I still hadn't heard anything so I called again. I was finally told the doctor had read the results and was asked if I wanted the results now. We went through the results and what my options were for next steps. 7. Fast forward to the claim that needs to be submitted - Explanation of Benefits (EOB) for the study. 3 weeks after the study I still hadn't seen the EOB so I called the local office. They said they would need to reach out to Corporate billing and would call me back. They called me back the same day and explained that billing was missing some information from them in order to process the claim and that I should see the EOB with my insurance company in a few days. I commented that if I didn't call, I don't think this claim would have been processed. They responded with someone would have caught it to which I said "it's been over a month since my study so when was someone going to catch it." 8. Two weeks after I called asking about my claim not being processed I have a pending EOB from American Sleep Medicine with incorrect service dates. They dates they listed are a month AFTER they should be and outside the approval window that my insurance company provided. Luckily I work in benefits for my company so I can reach out directly to our contact with our medical insurance to have them intervene on my claim, otherwise it would be denied. As of this review it is still not corrected since the provider (American Sleep Medicine) needs to give correct dates to the insurance company so the claim can be processed correctly. Update - 2 month later. they have processed my claim as out of network saying I owe $3000+ so I still need to deal with them. read more

I have been their client for at least 2 years. I wish i could give a better review but honestly I almost gave them a 1 star rating. They will get the job done. They will get the right information, and test results, they will give basic services ok but their staff are lazy, and are not looking out for your interest unless you do. They will forget to fill your scripts, keep poor records, make you wait longer wait times then normal, and be all around frustrating to work with. In 2 years, i have not had a script written and filled on time once. And the CPAP suppliers they work with are low quality providers who will over bill your insurance by putting you on auto-supply stocking unless you opt out. In short, why am I still there? They are local, easy to get an appointments with, and once you get past the front end and to the nurse practitioner and doctor they are helpful. Still, I need to shop for better options. read more

I am shocked by the other reviews on here! I had a great experience here. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and my technician was very knowledgeable and helpful as well. I was a little concerned at first because I realized that they were out of network but they assured me that they do what they call "network equivalent billing", which meant they would bill me as though I was in network by billing whatever my in network deductible and coinsurance responsibilities were and write off anything in excess of that.... Which is exactly what they did. The facility itself is nice and clean, and though I wasn't a fan of the paint color the bed was comfortable and the private bathroom and shower in the room itself made it feel like a nice little hotel room. Horrible service. The girls that answer the phone are super rude not helpfull very non cooperative. The only person in the place that is nice and proffessional and attentive in Nichia!! Dont get your study done there or buy products from their sister company. Once u get the study done they wont answer your calls or care about you at all. A month later and no one called me back!!! Horrible service! There are tons of companies out there. I should have done better research. The billing was also a nightmare. It took me 6 months for them to honor the original deal. I found their sleep study and follow-up to be really fine -- good and thorough explanation. Dr Hoffman was really good. But, very seriously watch out for the fact that they don't track your insurance all the way through for the very expensive equipment you'll be needing. My AETNA PPO covered the sleep study and follow-up, but they referred me to American Sleep Products for the equipment, which is Out-Of-Network for me, meaning higher deductibles and co-pays, all throughout the process. THEN, the way the equipment is billed from ASP is through a monthly pro-rated charge, that was very hard to understand in getting all the bills. The attachments are separate from the base machine and cost a LOT of money themselves (humidifier and mask). So, buyer beware -- if you are told you need the CPAP machine and special masks, etc., CALL your insurance company and make sure they are in-network before you agree to have it sent to you. Now, in defense of ASM, they DID, as I recall, give me a list of possible other providers. My bad (!!) for not being more pro-active in checking this out, but I thought it was just personal preference, and not that the equipment providers might not take my insurance, when ASM did take it. A very (!) expensive oversight on my part. I recommend ASM more carefully advise and caution their patients on this high cost of equipment, and that their preferred supplier may not take the same insurance as they do. They ASM might take time to be more insurance informed, at least to walk through it a bit more with their patients. (albeit with the usual medical provider caveat that they make no guarantees) read more

This is the second time that I had visited a Sleep Center. I hope I had followed my instincts and have not selected this place. The bed at my room had a hole on the middle, the mattress was in really bad shape. I believe they do that intentionally so you are not able to sleep comfortably. The temperature was warm and not very conducive to sleep. Everything smelled old, like moth balls. The equipment seems dated and not very clean. Will not recommend this place to friends or relatives. read more

AWFUL in every way. They are crooks. It was another place that took their sleep study and got me on track. First American Sleep Medicine was so disorganized to make an appt with. It was a weeks of back and forth to get the appt bc there is 1 person who makes those and she often does not answer. Then after the study I get a bill for 10ish k from my insurance company saying American Sleep Medicine charged more than allowed. (American Sleep Medicine had charged me less than 1k during the sleep study and that was bc I had not met my deducible). When I showed up with the extra bill to see what the hell had happened, they said "Oh we just charge that but if the insurance doesn't pay that's okay; you dont owe anything". The worst part was the follow up to the study. I waited almost an hour, it is clear they were overbooked (and it seemed like that was the norm) and the doctor only wanted to sell me a CPAP machine and he had a dozen behind him to show the various types, I asked him about other problem other than sleep apnea but he was not interested in engaging. Luckily, I am tenacious and took my study elsewhere to Integrated Neurology services and saw Dr Maru . Dr Maru literally looked at the study and said "You are kicking 90 times as hour, your biggest problem is you have Restless Leg Syndrome". He said I had a trifecta of sleep apnea, insomnia, and restless leg syndrome. He sent me to sleep therapist for 2 months, a dentist who created sleep apnea devices and of course the Restless Leg Syndrome medicine which was the biggest helper. Immediately the first week after seeing Dr Maru with the Restless leg medicine, i started sleeping through the night for the the first time in 20 years. read more

They told me in the beginning that it will be all covered by an insurance. I got a bill $650 for ... looks like it's a doctor's interpretation of study. Then I asked a case manager for an explanation at least 5 times, but got no response yet. it's been almost an year. They threatened me that they are going to send it to a collection agency. What a horrible experience I am having with this company. I am not paying them until I know what it is. I will report to my doctors as well. BE AWARE! Update: My case manager finally helped me to solve the issue and he was friendly... but... guess what? I got the same bill(s) from the Dr. again, not once, but twice so far. Also, was not impressed by the barely legible forms I filled out when I went there, I should have walked out the door then. My insurance said they should have only charged my $395, but they charged my FSA account $3,220! I have been a patient for 3 years and always have had a great experience at American Sleep Medicine. They are efficient when I come in for appointments and always get me in and out without the long waits I have experienced in other medical offices. I have only had 2 sleep studies in the facility and it was super clean, very comfortable beds, private room and the night nurses are so kind and professional. I appreciate this group and a special shout out to ABBY who is SO friendly and helpful. She listens carefully and is super sincere. I regret that I cannot remember the name of the amazing nurse I had when I did my most recent study there. She was top notch also. read more

This facility was so nice it was clean and I honestly cannot say enough about the staff. They really went out of their way to make an uncomfortable experience as comfortable as they possibly could. I initially did not want to go through with the study because of my high deductible, but since my family doctor was adamant that this was something that I needed and that would quite possibly help my overall health, I really felt like I had no choice but to follow through with doctors orders. Happy to say that the center also helped me out with this by allowing for my deductible responsibility to be paid off on a monthly payment plan, which was much appreciated. read more

I've had fairly god experiences here. My only issue is even when the doctor is "on time" is seems things are running late, even at the second appointment of the day, but I know to leave lots of time for these appointments. I did the sleep study, I have to admit didn't pay attention to the costs because my insurance would pay for it, so I can't speak to that experience, but after, any time I asked for explanations of the sleep study (done about 2 years ago now) I was given them in the minute detail I asked for, including what various readings meant, why they took the readings and what a different result would have meant. Yes, they did just order whatever they wanted (I assuming the default) for the CPAP machine, but all I had to do was ask for a different mask and I got it. read more

They said that they would honor the original pricing that was quoted to me from them, so I appreciate this. Service was good and was told by staff that it would only cost about 1200 per night. Wow they billed my insurance 16000 dollars and it would only pay 1000 dollars. Time to contact an attorney. I have been very disappointed with this office. I have a Res Med appliance and when I go for follow up appointments with the doctor, the need to "read" the machine to gain information from it. This office has been unable to read my machine for months. They are blaming ResMed for it. Also, when I went to order new supplies, they gave me the wrong information. This is not adequate service. I really feel that they should do better by their patients. I feel very inconvenienced. I even called before I brought my ResMed in, and was told, yes, bring it in. Why couldn't the staffer save me the trouble of packing it all up and lugging it in the 90 degree weather? I am currently planning to change to another place because they don't seem to be in touch with good customer/patient service. read more

Do not work here. They make each tech do 3 patients and it's dangerous and unrealistic, even they even have patients for you. They opened to early and called their techs back to pull them off unemployment so they could call them off, when they knew their wasn't going to be any patients so they could keep their ppp money, which they did not offer to supplement tech's income. They're about making America great again, so there's no safety precautions and it's a matter of time before they get sued, or you get sued. Patients can do telemedicine and have an hst sent to them and if they test positive, an auto cpap sent to them. They also have terrible recycled equipment from the 90s that they have no intention of upgrading, and they never work, and put the blame on the techs if something goes wrong. They even fired a tech for filing an osha complaint when they didn't have an active thermometer for weeks to screen patients for covid 19. They will lie to you to this day, and say they have business when they don't. Don't work here or get a study here, everything is dirty and has Covid 19. read more

Just went back to this facility for my six month follow up since starting my CPAP machine. I was commenting to the manager of the facility about how great I am feeling since using the machine and how happy I have been through the entire process. He was pleased to hear and asked if I could get on yelp and share my experience at the facility, as he said they had not been active on yelp and had just recently realized that people had put some reviews that were not at all in line and representative of the patient surveys and feedback that they receive on the regular. So basically here's the deal. Like I said I went to this facility a little over six months ago for snoring and because my wife said she would notice me stop breathing throughout the night. The office called me to schedule to see the sleep doctor, he was great and very knowledgeable. Then they were able to go ahead and get preauthorization for the study and scheduled me for the sleep study. Apparently I was severe enough on that night study for them to do a split night study on me and start the CPAP titration part of the test on the same night. After the test I was contacted to make arrangements to start using my CPAP machine at home. Since then I've been using the machine and going back for my follow-ups one-month three-month and now six months to see the sleep doctor so that he can see how I'm doing using the machine and if I'm getting the results I'm supposed to. I can honestly say that I've never felt better, I sleep like a teenager, I have no more headaches in the morning, and I'm not driving my wife crazy with my snoring. I feel younger and I have more energy. I would recommend this to anyone who needs it. And would recommend this lab for its thoroughness, great patient care, and nice hotel like facility. read more

I received a very sloppy report after an overnight sleep study. The report summary came from a form letter that contained blank spaces where information should be and even had the wrong birth date on it. Despite a follow-up call with the doctor, I don't have much confidence in the study's results. I'm going to have to have the study re-done elsewhere. read more

I have been a patient here since 2011. The office is very poorly run and managed. Many times I have requested them to call my home phone for communications and they continue to call the cell phone. Today was really the last when they called me an hour and a half before my schedule appointment to cancel as the new doctor did not consult the former doctor about my case. I made the initial appointment for routine follow-up back in May of 2016. The office called me about a week before the appointment to let me know that my current doctor was no longer coming in on Thursdays and they must reschedule. They couldn't get me in for about another month out other than days I am out of town. I requested to see another doctor to schedule sooner. They made the appointment with another doctor but advised me that it was contingent on the insurance company. I requested they let me know. I did not hear anything back so assumed the appointment was still on. But knowing how poorly the office is managed, I called yesterday afternoon to confirm the appointment and I was assured that it was on. Then they called me this morning to cancel as the new doctor wouldn't see me. This is not the first time, however. Back in 2015, I took time off work to go to an appointment that was made 6 months in advance. After waiting an hour to see the doctor, the receptionist informed me that there was no record of the appointment. I showed them my appointment card and insisted on seeing a doctor. I finally did see the doctor but after waiting another 45 minutes until all other patients were seen. It seems they don't document correctly or keep appointment records up to date. This has been very inconvenient. This office needs someone to run it in a professional manner. It is also time to find a new provider. read more
