Carlos came to our house, on a holiday no less, and talked about what we wanted to do and provided a quote later. He was thorough, providing suggestions about how to approach a problem: framing out our decidedly builder-grade windows to tie in with the board-and-batten we wanted. And then there was the huge, floor-to-ceiling built-in-bookshelves project we wanted him to tackle with stain-grade wood. Through the whole process, from concept to completion, Carlos checked with us about what we wanted. He made changes when needed and was respectful about our wishes. Everything he did mattered to him. All his choices were thoughtful: with materials, trimming out the board and batten and windows and building the bookshelves. With the cabinet bottoms for four of the bookcases, he chose something with a nice wood grain and matched the doors up. It looks so good and now we need to respect the wood with a stain that will allow the beauty to come through. The result is something out of my dreams. Solid, classy bookshelves with some cabinets and even a couple cabinets with plexiglass doors. As Carlos said, we could drive a truck on these bookshelves now. No disrespect to the IKEA hackers, but I wanted something solid that would last a lifetime, out of real wood. Carlos custom-made the bookshelves -- no prefab cabinets. He was great with communication, both in person and by text when he was on his way for the day. He was always on time or even early. He has a great sense of humor and found us funny too, which is nice to have when you have someone working in your house for a while. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. River City Carpentry provided good quality service and a great value. Now I'm looking forward to the next step of getting our shelves stained and our board and batten and the rest of the room painted.

BTW: ALL US BANKS WERE CLOSED~Ooooof, i.e., I couldn't give Carlos a Cashier's Check for the initial deposit; I had no choice but, submitting a cash deposit instead . . . Aside, the scheduled door installation date was for November 24, 2023, i.e., on time as scheduled--of course and indeed confirmed days prior. During the door installation installing two doors, I was enthralled with Carlos adjusting the "X & Y axis" for bedroom door~LOL . . . Which Carlos called, ". . . plumbed." Regardless, Carlos is an expert, indeed! I plan hiring Carlos when I receive my EDC building permit for converting a Tuff Shed into an ADU.

We went through several design concepts and he worked to incorporate my ideas and was honest about the ideas he didn't think would be practical. In the end, I have a beautiful work of art in my dining room that's uniquely crafted and one of a kind. Our dining table will be a focal point for family dinners and gatherings for many years and because it is handcrafted makes it even more special. He came out quickly and spent time thoroughly looking over our yard, our existing drainage system, and listening to our concerns. He came up with a plan to address the issues without having to tear out our landscaping. He sent us a quote by the next day and quickly responded to our many follow-up questions. He's clearly very knowledgeable about drainage and passionate about it! The crew did an awesome job and worked SO hard. They arrived on time every day and even worked through the weekend to make up for some lost work time due to rain. Despite having to dig up big chunks of our yard and temporarily move plants, they put everything back together perfectly. We really appreciate that they use high quality materials that will do the job better and last longer than materials purchased off the shelf at a big box hardware store. Can't recommend Older Home Specialists enough, they do incredible work for a very fair price. We'll definitely call them again if we need any other work done as they also do irrigation!
