Like others on this site. The company is not reliable. The sad thing is the drivers are trying to earn a living. But the main office is terrible. We had a no show car last night. 2 minutes before our pick up time we got a text telling us a car had not been assigned yet. We were catching a train in 30 minutes. Luckily there was a Uber 2 minutes from our home. Now we also had a car for our return from the train station. We were told we would get a text 20 minutes before pickup. We Didn't. We got a text has we were pulling into the station telling us a car was not assigned again. We called and was told a car would be 10- 20 minutes. We had to wait. Just bad service. We dare not book now for our Airport runs. Worried they won't show up. Thank Uber will be our choice now. Sorry drivers. The office let's you down. read more

We have used American Taxi for many years, continuing to be loyal while our friends/family were telling us to use other sources for rides to/from airport. Up until yesterday, we had only one other negative experience, which was with a surly driver, not necessarily American Taxi's fault....until yesterday. (Order #507689) We were stood up by TaxI 2151 for our ride to the airport. Taxi 2151 was to pick us up at 7:00am. Normally the drivers arrive 10 minutes prior to the designated time. Beginning at 6:50am, I began tracking the driver. The car was not moving, but it said the taxi was 7 minutes away. Thinking it a glitch in the tracking app, and since it still was not yet 7:00am, we waited. At 7:00am, we received the first automated call saying the driver was 7 minutes away. OK. Another automated call came at 7:10am saying the driver was 7 minutes away. What??!!?? So I made the first call to Dispatch.....and here is my biggest complain: NO ONE HELPED US! We got through to Dispatch where we were told the car was 7 minutes away....the same information it said on tracking. I tried to explain that it was stationery there since I began tracking at 6:50am. I was told, "I'll check with the driver" and then he hung up on me. I waited a few minutes, saw that the car STILL had not moved, and called back....to be told the same thing. it was now 7:20am, no car in sight, and we needed to get to the airport! I called our neighbor in a panic and asked if he could drive us. When he said yes, I cancelled the ride. On the way to the airport , our neighbor's comment was "American Taxi service has declined lately." Three weeks ago, they left some other neighbors stranded at the International Terminal for over an hour. They HAD A RESERVATION, but were told by Dispatch, after waiting an hour, that they were "fully booked". So even with a confirmed reservation and no flight delay, they were left without a taxi. It cost them $150 to get home. Our neighbor recommended another company that we will try on our next trip to/from OHare. What a shame that Taxi 2151 did not care enough to show up for people catching a flight. A bigger shame that there was no Customer Service at all for us in this predicament. I will no longer use American Taxi of whom I've been using for years! When the driver showed up INTOXICATED was the last time! We (my family) did not get into this mans car. It started when he showed up late - was sitting idle several hundred yards away and when he drove up to my driveway (painfully slow) he started mumbling about his "Diabetes"... I have used American Taxi for personal and business use for years. The pro's are reliability and value. They are never late! But the con has now outweighed the pro's. First, and foremost, my last several rides have been terrible in terms of drivers and the unsafe driving I've experienced. Tailgating, speeding, aggressive driving have gone from uncomfortable to terrifying. Second to that is the cleanliness of the cars and vans. Definitely a rapid decline in service. Setup ride 2 weeks before on app. Made me wait 45 min late at night with kids even though they ask for flight info and other key data when where they can plan the pickup but choose to make you call in "adter you get your bags" at the airport. I have been an American Taxi customer for many years; I honestly had nothing but positive things to say about the company until my last time. Last Thursday, February 8, I flew into Chicago and it was during a snow storm. I was fearful I would be stranded from where my flight originated but once we took off I thought, no problem, I will land and get home that night. Little did I know that my night of problems was just starting. I had already reserved a cab for that night and my flight was on time, I landed, received the email to text how many minutes until I was ready, and I received an interesting response 1 minute later, "We are attempting to assign you a cab number, please be patient." I sent another text stating I needed only 5 minutes to be ready; I received no cab number. I sent another saying 0 minutes ready; the silence was deafening. I tried to call the company and I received the option of sharing a cab - I chose that option hoping I could get a cab. I received a text a minute later that that order was cancelled because I already had an order. I tried to call other number there and received nothing. I continued to text low numbers hoping for a cab and I received nothing. After waiting one hour, without so much as any contact from American Taxi, I pulled up my Lyft app and promptly got a cab who took me to my home for the same amount of money charged by American Taxi. American Taxi could not find a driver but I was able to find one in minutes. I did leave a complaint for American Taxi and expected to hear from them the next day; after all, I have used them for more than 5 years! The next day I got a call but could not answer at that time so they left a voice message. I called back and spoke to someone who asked if I would like to speak to management; I asked for someone to call me. No phone call was received; I called and left another message and another. I have yet to receive a call from American Taxi on why they abandoned me at the airport. I have made it clear, I will not use them again without a phone call to explain how and why they abandoned me at O'Hare. read more

If I could give less than one star I would. Driver met us in pouring rain and didn't get out of car to assist w bags. In addition he parked at street and never moved up to driveway. His driving was awful and he was unfriendly and did not wear a mask over his nose. Book a 3 am ride today and it was a no show. We had confirmation # but they insisted we cancelled it overnight while we were sleeping. Do not trust this company. They are shady and unprofessional. Beyond Furious, I have used American Taxi for years for business and personal travel. I have used them weekly since Post - Covid, I booked travel last night for this am as my regular driver was unavailable. To be notified 15 min before pickup is unacceptable. The min you can do is notify an hour prior if no driver is available. I will be moving along to another service, unfortunate. read more

Stunned. One word says it all. To call up American taxi at ohare at 11pm at night and be told they should have a cab available in ten or fifteen minutes, that works. However, then we called back 30 minutes later for an update and we were told "we don't have any cabs available for you, I'm cancelling your request" and then "click". I made an online reservation to be picked up from my location 8 days prior to the date. It was for an early morning pickup 3:30am and that is why I made the reservation to confirm I had a ride to the airport. I have used American Taxi for years and usually have early morning pickups so I know taxis are available at this time. I received a text message 30 minutes before my pickup time stating they were still looking for a driver, 30 minutes before! Then I received another 10 minutes after that and then 5 minutes before my appointment time they still hadn't found anyone and I had the option to hold or to cancel. Of course I had to cancel and procure another means of getting to the airport. I was fuming mad. How is it that no one had notified me that no one had picked up my order. I would have at least appreciated 12 hours in advance. That would have given me time to get another ride somehow. This is very poor service and I have not heard back from anyone after calling and being transferred to a voicemail where I left this same message and it has now been a month since I emailed their customer service and still no response . They don't care. You do not treat paying customers who have used your company for years this way. Do you know how hard it is to find a ride anywehre much less the airport at 3:30am? Usually we use Uber but since none were available at our time we used American. The app works great! Driver got us to and from ORD on time. Were nice drivers! Great price!!! When in Chicago area will only use American Taxi now. read more

I was hesitant to use American Taxi after seeing all these negative reviews, but am glad I took my friend's advice and used them anyway. $45 from O'Hare to south Naperville - definitely couldn't find a comparable Uber for that rate and at that time of day (6:30PM on a Thursday). Driver was very professional and the ride home was quick and safe - I even fell asleep on the way back (something I'd never do if I didn't feel comfortable). Unreliable. Completely Unreliable. They were contracted by Fairfield Inn Schaumburg as their "Airport Shuttle" service to O'Hare. Our 4:00 AM departure ride ( to catch a 6AM Saturday flight) was set up the day before. After waiting over half an hour past the time they gave us, they texted us to say that they cancelled our request due to no driver being available. They stranded us cold. A couple also headed to O'Hare offered to share their taxi with us. We made our gate with 5 minutes to spare. On the return a week later, an 11pm arrival for us. Fairfield was called in late afternoon and told us to call after we got our luggage. We did. In the 2 hours we were left waiting, we called the hotel twice, and tried calling American Taxi once. Seriously...5 minutes going through their phone maze of "press (#) for (whatever)." All we ended up with was how not to sue them recordings. Also in those two hours, my wife had an asthma attack from waiting outside in the vehicle fumes for so long, we missed our opportunity to get a late night meal ( my wife has Celiac, and none of the G-Free places were open any more), and I lost 2 hrs sleep for our 8 am morning departure for appointments up in Green Bay. We eventually got an Uber....with only a 6 minute wait! The old saying holds true: "Fool me once - same on you; Fool me twice - shame on me." NEVER AGAIN will we patronize anyone contracting to American Taxi. read more

My wife made a reservation with American Taxi for transportation to and from the airport for our international trip. On our ride to the airport, the representative showed up early, helped us with our bags, and we had no problems with the agreed upon rate. On the way back, we called the company after getting our bags as instructed, and a taxi showed up in 10 minutes as promised. Once again, the driver showed up with the right sized car, helped us with our bags, and there were no problems with the agreed upon rate. The only thing I could fault American Taxi on is that the return trip driver had a lead foot, but we didn't mind since we wanted to get home quickly and go to bed after our long trans-Atlantic flight. I'm not sure if this is the correct American Taxi on Yelp (there are a couple). We called an 800 number to make our reservation. However, the number for this American Taxi matches the number that texted us with the details of our reservation. read more

I ordered a Taxi to pick me up from the airport and received confirmation with a driver info and cab # and was instructed to go outside and wait as it will be arriving shortly. I waited for 30 minutes in cold Chicago weather and the cab have not showed up. I called the driver to find out where he is and he informed me that he is not in service. read more

We are severely disappointed with a recent lack of service. We had placed an order for a pickup a week in advance, including airline flight # and time of arrival at O'Hare. We had our luggage, texted "R", and got the message, "We are attempting to assign you a cab number, please be patient." 20 min later--I tried to text again, only to receive the 'stock' reply. We continued to try and text. 40 min later--At that point, we called dispatch twice, and it was suggested that we had just requested this cab--NOT acknowledged that we had made a reservation A WEEK BEFORE. During this time, over 10 American taxis DROVE BY US at Terminal 1 in O'Hare, many without fares, as though they had no idea who they were looking for. It was particularly aggravating to watch them pass us by, as we waited with NO UPDATE information from the dispatcher. NOT providing any update information to loyal customers is very poor service. Despite having a reservation, after 1/2 hour, we did NOT have a taxi number assigned and had NO idea of how much longer our wait would be. 1 hour later--STILL no taxi number; we gave up and found another way home. I had used them happily for years as a reliable, fixed-price service to and from the airport. But in the last few months, I have had two occasions in which they failed badly. In each, I had made a reservation for an early morning pickup more than 12 hours in advance. They confirmed. Then they didn't show. In each, they didn't assign a driver until after they were due for pickup - and the driver then was 20 miles away. It left me scrambling to make alternate plans and catch a flight. When they work, they're fine. When they don't work, it is without warning and can cause serious problems if you were counting on them. read more

Unreliable! Had an order set up to be picked up at Midway Airport never showed. When I spoke to the dispatcher he told he was working on it, waited half an hour later to get a text saying my taxi will arrive shortly and the taxi number. I waited an hour and called the dispatcher back he told me my order was cancelled and they're not taking new orders and I would have to call someone else. American Taxi service is terrible. I arrived at O Hare last night and tried to get a taxi home to Palatine. I called American Taxi and was placed on a 10 minute hold listening to their advertisments and them trying to get your personal info . I finally got a live person and was told they would send me a taxi number and to wait out by the arrival lanes. After 30 minutes I called them back and told them I had not received a taxi number and needed someone to pick me up. I was then told they are busy and would have someone in 10 minutes. At the 1 hour mark they still had not sent a taxi number and would not respond to my recalling. They try to get you to wait by giving false arrival times and just lie to you. I finally called another service and was in a cab within 20 minutes. Avoid American Taxi at all costs, they deceive you. read more

BEWARE! Yelled at my wife on the phone because he said we were not standing in the correct area and refused to pull in the DESIGNATED AREA where we were STANDING that says SUBURBAN PREARRANGED TAXI outside of G. This is the area I was told to stand in about a year ago by a another not so friendly driver because I was standing to the left near the sign that says LIVERY Pick up ONLY and NOT were this *sS wouldn't drive to pick us up from. NO way we were getting into the cab with the driver. CAB #499 finally drove where we were standing and rolled the window down and started to yelling at me still in his car. This gets even better. We told him we would not get in his cab and he said we had to pay his fee for getting into the airport. HA! I walked away looking for police, security, Taxi police, anyone. Saturday at 10pm apparently they had all left. My wife called AMERICAN TAXI to tell them we would not get in the car with the RUDE maniac and they said they would send another cab. OHHHH they did. This driver had apparently had just spoken with CAB #499. His number was CAB #469. He also stopped in the area that is marked for LIVERY PICKUP ONLY. After I went to CAB #469's window and said we where standing under the sign for TAXI pickup he eventually pulled up to the proper area for pickup. HOWEVER, he got out of his car yelling and telling us we were wrong and that's not where we were supposed to be standing. So, I asked him to come over the the spot we were standing and read the sign. He read it, ignored it. We got in the cab and he continued to tell us how wrong we were and didn't respect him. I asked him to quit talking about it. He would not. I told him to stop the cab. He said he would take us back to the airport. At this time we were close to Mannheim Road South. My wife, finally asked him to please quit speaking and just take us to home. I was LIVID. And this is a very abbreviated version. In all fairness, we have had some excellent drivers but lately they are far and few between. And you wonder why UBER and LYFT are so popular! I know we will NEVER use NOT VERY AMERICAN TAXI again! P.S. Another couple we were standing beside were picked up by American Taxi in the SAME spot we were standing in without a problem. They were so disturbed at how rude #499 was he got out of the his cab and photographed #499 driver and his car and the place we were standing and his cab that picked him up. read more

We called this service (recommended by a colleague) and the dispatcher said a car would arrive in 5-10 minutes. He never showed up so I wound up taking an Uber after all. This son of a bitch almost rear ended me, AND the tried to cut me off, nearly hitting me 3 different times on February 5 approx 8:45 AM on Interstate 294 @ the O'Hare interchange!! So this is the second time I have schedule a pickup with American Taxi and they did not show. This time I almost missed my flight. I received a text at 2:51 am saying they were on the way my 3:30 pick up. The tracking said they were only 4.87 miles away. 40 minutes later...still no cab. So we had to drive, find parking, wait for a shuttle. And then when you try to call them all you get is an automated system. Definitely will be using a different taxi service from now on. American Taxi, has degraded 100% since I used them last. I ordered a pickup for 5:30 pm to go from my home to the United Center, for a Blackhawks game. The driver actually showed up at 6:45 pm. His van was mechanically unsafe, smelled of rotten fish, and his verbal skills were unbelievably bad. Once we got on our way the driver put our family in harms way by driving a long way illegally on the highway's shoulder to get around a traffic jam on I-290. Then getting off the highway he wasn't sure which way to go, stopping in a intersection waiting for his GPS to tell him what to do. When he got to the UC he pulled into a secure parking where security guards chased his van yelling he couldn't pull in! He then attempted to lock my family in the van requesting to be paid, when the ride was already pre-paid. After repeatedly giving him the pre-paid pin, and the security guards telling him he had to leave the secure area he let my family go. I'll never use them again. It took a couple calls to American Taxi to complain and request a refund. I'm waiting for a response from them. read more

I've used them twice now while in town on business and my experiences have been quite positive. - On time or early - Friendly drivers - Flat rate to and from OHare ($31 for me to my destination versus $72 from another cab company I've used recently!!) - Clean, spacious cabs - No crazy driving - A/C - App available to book ahead I will keep using them for all my Chicago trips. I've even saved them in my phone so I never have to experience another hot, A/C-less, $72 cab ride ever again! read more

I am so done with this cab company. They have the rudest, meanest, most argumentative drivers of any cab company anywhere. I have complained twice about the same driver! In fairness, I have had a handful of good ones, who either didn't talk, were pleasant and/or knew what they were doing. Unfortunately, I have to take a cab from the train station to my mom's memory care residence, every week. And they don't know their way around! They follow the Almighty GPS and get lost! I have a guaranteed $5.00 rate that doesn't always show up on their screens, and I have to deal with that. Coming back is even worse! The tracker doesn't work in that direction, so I can never get a real time ETA. I have missed my train on more than one occasion. I heard that the only other local cab company is worse, but I'll either have to try them or Lyft. The discount is not worth the aggravation. If they make excuses and continue employing these ruffians, they obviously don't care about how I feel. I don't give money for bad service. read more

Flat rate doesn't always pay. When I ordered from them to take me to the airport, the driver was like he was out of a Fast and Furious movie. I got their on time, but it should be more reliable. Getting home was even worse. When my plane landed, I was waiting for about 3 hours and I never got a Taxi number, even after my plane landed. So bottom line is, your better off taking either a different Taxi service, or getting an Uber/Lyft. read more

We ended up missing our flight from Chicago. Coming home, the (late) driver and unmarked car were so sketchy, we decided to get back on the O'hare taxi line for a more legit ride. Reckless taxi driver from this company pulled directly into oncoming traffic causing drivers to slam on breaks to avoid horrific accident. As a result of having to slam my brakes on to avoid wreck, items inside my car broken-smashed . I got # from taxi as it sped away and called Naperville police to make complaint. Also called taxi company where they essentially to me to go pound sand and they are not liable. Really ? I made them aware of police report and they were more concerned about that than my property destroyed. Great PR: not ! Social media is a beautiful thing. Naperville PD investigating driver as I post this. Would I recommend them ? sure, when pigs fly. Cost of broken item: 9.00. Cost to company for sucky irresponsible CS? Gave us one rate by text and then after we were in the cab, gave us another rate and wouldn't honor the price, even when I called them and told them that it's wrong for them to quote a price and then change it. The guy didn't care. I even asked if it was worth the extra cost they were going to charge if they lose me as a customer. I won't use them again! Called a taxi for the airport, trying to save money with a flat rate over taking an uber/lyft. Turns out they never put the taxi in the system, so I had to take the more expensive route after all. Driver was friendly enough. Arrived early and seemed to take a good route. He was on the tail end of a night shift, so was extremely tired. At drop off, his credit card equipment wasn't working properly. After several failed attempts to charge my card, he used an ipad and SquareUp to charge my card. Well apparently, one of the first attempts went through, so no my credit card has been charged twice. After a week and several calls to American Taxi Dispatch, Inc. at 847-259-1555, still no credit to the double charge. They are claiming they don't use SquareUp. Well, that's funny because that's the one charge I have a receipt for. Not a bad taxi ride, but use cash and cross your fingers that you don't need customer service after the fact. read more
