We were heading to Ohare and my go to service is generally American Taxi Dispatch. I was able to book my pick up for 4 AM and schedule my ride home through their App. I really like it because I am able to get a van for the family and the charge is a flat fee of $40. Compared to an Scheudled Uber for $50 plus dollars. The driver arrived 5 minutes ahead of my pick up time. The minivan was very clean and the driver loaded out luggage and was nice. His driving was safe and got us to the airport safely. Overall, it was a great experience as always. I highly recommend using American Taxi because you know the price you'll pay and the drivers are generally very nice. read more

Be warned - reserving a ride in advance does not mean a driver will actually show up at the time you have requested. For a reserved ride, we received notification 30 minutes ahead of time that the trip had been assigned and giving us the details of the Driver with tracking info. 20 minutes later, we were notified that they were searching for a new driver. That went on for 25 minutes before we cancelled and took Another company's ride. Extremely disappointed!! read more

I am a regular client. I use their app to schedule both the trip to ORD and the return. It's so easy. If you include the flt number in the scheduled pick up at ORD or Midway they flex the pickup if the plane is late or early. When they pick me up at my house they are always early. I get a text 30 minutes in advance letting me know the driver will be on time and a link to see where he is relative to my pickup. It's soooo cool. I won't use anyone else. read more

I booked two rides, both several weeks in advance. The first ride, the company cancelled half an hour out but immediately called and fixed the issue. I was a little worried, but wrote it off. My second ride was coming from the airport at night. They assigned me two cabs. One they immediately canceled, and the other was after I called the company, seeing they rebooked the wrong type of car (we had originally booked a van and they gave us a Prius) The entire time (both times) the app was glitching, and now I am stuck at the airport at 11 at nights and still have not received a new taxi assignment. I ordered a cab 40 minutes before I needed it at the Joliet Metra station. The driver was a few hundred feet from me and I called to see exactly where. He then got lost and cancelled. I've been using American Taxi for quite some time now, prior to the launches of both Uber and Lyft. So you could call me a loyalist and I've stuck with them, specifically for trips to and from O'Hare. They're great if you need a van, for several people or luggage and I've appreciated that. However, this rating goes from 4 to 1.5 stars (rounded down because of a perceived lack of integrity). Due to a delay at Toronto (Pearson), I got in around 11:45 pm on a Sunday night, not terribly late. When I called in, I received a text with my order number. However, a second more critical text is sent as well - this provides your taxi number and cell number. Guess what, this second text never came. So I called after about 20 minutes and the dispatcher said that he's coming. Finally, I got the second text with the cabbie number. I called the drivers' call but no answer. Hmmm.... After waiting an additional 20 minutes, I got a third text saying that the driver couldn't find me and that I needed to call for another ride. What? The person never came and never picked up my calls nor did he try to call me. I really believe that no one was on their way and that no one was covering O'Hare that night for the Northshore. Which is shocking on a cold late night at O'Hare. To make a long story short, my Lyft driver came in under two minutes, he was kind and was an Anthropologist in his home country (Ecuador). Our conversation was quite refreshing at 12:50 am. He helped with my bags for both loading and unloading. And can you believe this? Even with my tip, it was still cheaper than American Taxi's base rate. I guess having a bit of blind loyalty can backfire at the most critical time. read more

I frequently use this taxi service. They are reliable and price is somewhat reasonable. More than Uber or Lyft during off hours and less during surge pricing...However...they occasionally do their own version of surge pricing. I used to give this place four or five stars. However, the consistency of the quality of drivers and cars has gone down a bit. Also, if you're ever paired with the driver 8347 they are on their device the entire time, and are not looking at the road which is flat out dangerous. I would still use the service however, I will definitely be more picky about which drivers should come because Safety is top priority When you are paying for someone to take you somewhere....not to mention not legal to be texting while driving. read more

I have used twice in last week. Their service seems to be great. Drivers were courteous, helped with the luggage. #8313 and #8418 were both good Drivers. I did not give 5 stars as they could not explain the $10 surcharge for services after 7:00 PM. I liked their flat price and not like UBER or LYFT exorbitant prices. You will never know what all pricing components Uber and Lyft will add in. Overall I liked their service as they are not individuals but a dedicated service. They also carry Cab service insurance. There should be a zero star rating on Yelp. I have been an American Taxi customer for over 20 years. After last night's experience, I will not use American Taxi again. Since the online app can not handle ordering a taxi for 2 customers and 2 destinations, I called American Taxi and asked if this type of request can be ordered. I was assured that this order could be accommodated. I even called back to confirm. When the taxi arrived at the airport later that evening, the taxi driver refused to drop off the first passenger at the first destination. What made matters worse is that he was belligerent. Absolutely awful experience with these guys. I had to get my mother home from a doctor's appointment this morning, so I called and asked the dispatcher to send a wheelchair accessible van, which he said would be fine. They sent me a link where I could track the arrival, and it said a Toyota Camry would be arriving in 15 minutes. A Camry, if you're not familiar, is a small car and not even close to wheelchair accessible. Even if my mother could get out of her chair, there wouldn't be room to put the chair in the car! As soon as I noticed that, I called the dispatcher back and specified again that we needed a wheelchair accessible van and a Camry wouldn't work. After some back and forth (during which, he kept calling me "Ma'am," much to my annoyance, even after I had asked him to stop since I'm not a woman), he said he'd cancel the Camry and order a van, and would be sending me a text message with updated details. After nearly an hour, I finally got a text message that my ride will be arriving shortly. So I went out to meet him... and it was the Camry that was supposed to have been cancelled (and also a half hour later than they initially said it would arrive). I explained the situation to the confused driver and apologized for wasting his time (even though it was the dispatcher's fault). Then within just a couple minutes, I got a call from someone at American Taxi who said he was a manager (or supervisor or something). He sounded very annoyed to be calling and asked why I cancelled the ride. I told him that I had asked for a wheelchair accessible van and that the Camry was never supposed to come in the first place. The manager didn't apologize, he just told me that American Taxi doesn't have wheelchair accessible vans. What really pissed me off is that he had a tone of voice like I was supposed to already know this and I was the jerk for wasting HIS time. I told him that if that's the case, then his dispatcher should have said something instead of letting me wait around for almost an hour, and that they need to get their crap together. I doubt he listened to me because he started to try and argue with me before I could even finish what I was saying. I didn't feel like screaming, so I just hung up on him. Never know what to expect. On the way to the airport we had loud revival Christian music and a non communicative driver. Back to home we had a chatty driver that made wild assumptions on everything and wouldn't take a cue to shut the f up. I still don't understand why if they have all my information and credit card data I still need to remember a password code they assign to each ride. Don't pay attention to what their app says. A ride will be there in several minutes actually means the guy a half hour away has just started heading your way. Gambling when you book here. read more

It had surcharges for fuel and something else's which made it $57 We always tip 20 percent for the driver When we paid in the cab ....another $5 had been added for night rate (collection 7 pm at airport !!!!) I'd give 0 if possible. I scheduled a pick up the night before for a 445a pick up. I stayed outside of Chicago so Uber was expensive and sometimes scarce. I received a confirmation email as well as a text. The morning of I received a text with my vehicle number and a way to track my ride. At 440 I went to the pick up location to meet my driver. Upon checking the tracking it said my driver had arrived. No one was outside so I called the cellphone number provided for the driver. When I called he told me he had already picked someone up and I would need to call dispatch. How unorganized. I ended up booking an Uber which came out cheaper. What?! 15 minutes before pick up, early morning, AFTER confirming a cab would be there to pick us up. Arrived home last night and ordered a cab again. Immediately received confirmation order had been placed but didn't receive second text with cab number. Waited awhile, called company and was told to wait 10-15 minutes for a confirmation on cab number. The woman didn't sound so sure of that timeline so I asked how long I would have to wait once I received confirmation. She transferred me to dispatch who said it'd be at least 45-50 minutes before a cab could pick me up from ORD. Paid double to take a Chicago cab but at least I knew I'd get home. read more

I recently tried to book an American Taxi from my hotel to O'Hare online 4 times and their website would not let me so I called and reserved a sedan speaking to a man at their company, on the day of pick up they sent a van which is $10 more for just one person. The person was 20 minutes late but did call ahead of time...I called American Taxi back and ask why I was sent a van instead of a sedan like requested and the man said he didn't care and to leave it alone. I simply ask for the difference back and he said it was $75 for all the rides which it is clearly not as stated on the website. My usual ride to O'Hare from my house is flat rated and with tip it's about $52.00. So I was surprised when the charge on my credit card was $72 for the ride back!! I called and they said there was a $10 surcharge because it was after 6pm and a $10 surcharge because it was a minivan. When I called to make the reservation they told me it was an $8 "temporary surcharge". I never asked for a minivan. Just one passenger, me! They just sent one. They offered no apology and no credit. I suppose I'm lucky they didn't send a bus! I always wanted to support can companies over the likes of Uber. No more. I've taken my last cab. At least with Lyft or Uber you see the charges ahead before the ride. What's more, when I told American Taxi I was done them, they didn't seem to care. Our family has been a user of American Taxi for 20 years. We appreciate that they have a diverse set of drivers. Although many are immigrants and some do not speak English well, many are really nice people. However, on our recent trip from abroad (we arrived back on Thanksgiving Day), we were assigned a driver from Iran. He had a distinct accent and he told me that's where he was from. He picked us up from the International terminal at O'Hare airport. He asked where we came from and when I said Tokyo, he said, "Why do you people come here. You should just stay there." I may be an immigrant but I am an American citizen. My son who was also on the ride was born here. The gall of this immigrant driver to tell us essentially not go to America when we live here! This is a totally racist comment and I have complained to American Taxi to bar this driver from O'Hare. Unfortunately, they have not responded at all to my complaint. We will be riding Uber and Lyft from now on. I suggest everyone to boycott this company for allowing a driver to say these things to their passengers. read more

we payed by pin and when we got to the airport the driver of cab #209 wouldn't accept our prepaid pin. . .so I had to give him my credit card. We ended up with a duplicate charge from the prepaid pin and the credit card. Now we can't even reach American Taxi though we've called and left messages and emails. . .we have spent so much time on this and it's incredible that a business operates like this. In last week I tried using American Taxi. Going from home to Midway. I ordered taxi at 6:20 for a 8:30 flight. Waited for 20 minutes past request time. Not able to track and on phone going thru the loop without being able to connect to a human. Called Uber since it was getting close to departure time. Uber was there in 8 minutes. Gave American Taxi benefit of doubt while returning and placed order thru their app. Got the order number but unable to get the cab number and track my order. All the time got message "cab has not yet been assigned, check back in 3-4 minutes. Finally it was quite late in the night and I cancelled the order. As soon as cancelled order I got text that a cab # xxx will be arriving and meet at LL 2. By that time I already ordered Uber and the cab came in 8 minutes. I am not using American again. Reasons 1: very bad customer service ( one should be able to connect to a human in at least 5 minutes.) Reason 2: they have a to make their App little more responsive and interactive. ( while ordering the cab app said something about luggage collection and press this green link but after the order I couldn't find that link and I was wondering wether the dispatcher is waiting for me to confirm luggage collection. ) All in all 2 bad experiences in a week, is not a way to patronize the business. If there is a negative star rating I will give that but there is only 1-5 star and I have to choose star rating for my review to be published hence 1star. read more

I've been using American Taxi as my pickup from O'hare. I have always felt that they are reliable. They offer my company a good corporate rate and I can trust that they will be there when I call (which is extremely important when it's 0 degrees outside!) I think that the best way to get a taxi is to make sure you grab your driver's card and call them directly. It seems that there are some complications when you order on the internet/automated ordering system. The driver that I use is friendly and a very good driver. I would recommend him. read more

Have used them for our last 3 trips and for one they have never picked us up on time despite us notifying them as requested. Last night, we arrived from a 10 hour travel day with our young child and despite them having all of our (international) flight info, they went to the domestic terminal. Instead of correcting their error, the driver was combative and blamed us for the mishap and refused to just drive to get us. We had to get a cab costing double ($120) to get us home.
