AAA roadside sent American Towing to pick up my car due to broken axle in chino. Driver did not secure my vehicle on tow truck correctly and car came loose while I was inside the tow truck with driver at the first stop sign. My car is now damaged and they refuse to properly fix damages to my car. Manager Luis is very rude and unprofessional allowing employees to drive my car without consent and showing up to my house with police in person when he did not want to deal with fixing his employee's mistake anymore at 11pm! My car now looks like a 3 year old did the body work on the damaged trunk with sand marks and paint runs everywhere and now misaligned trunk to the point that water leaks inside the car! My car hasn't been useable since January 2023 due to avoiding the weather and car washes! read more

I got a flat tire in the rain and called for roadside assistance. The original company gave an ETA of 60-90 minutes and after two hours of waiting and no way to reach the driver or owner I cancelled that order and then got American Towing. I called the owner who promptly answered and I explained my situation. He tracked his driver while I was on the phone and gave a short ETA. The driver called me right away and was there in 5 minutes. Our encounter this evening while American Tow was trying to illegally tow our vehicle, was as follows: We were parked in front of our garage, carrying groceries into the house when the tow truck driver hooked up to our truck. Per California law, if you interrupt a tow truck trying to tow your car, you may request, and they are required to drop your vehicle. When we asked the driver to drop the vehicle he refused. He then suggested my boyfriend open the door to the truck to release the vehicle or threatened damage to the vehicle via the tow. (FYI- if your car is damaged while being hooked up, towed, or while impounded, the tow company is liable for any and all damage.)My boyfriend opened the door and then climbed into the driver seat while I called the police. My boyfriend then refused to exit the vehicle. Please note: We were not illegally parked we were simply stopped blocking nothing except our garage while carrying groceries into the house and no time had lapsed other than The time it took to close the garage and come out through the front door. The tow truck driver proceeded to violate the Vehicle code by refusing to drop the truck as requested, he also violated criminal law when he threatened to physically remove my boyfriend from the drivers seat. The police asked for the name Of the tow truck company, and the color of the truck, and as I tried to retrieve the license plate number from the front of the tow truck, there was no plate. After about 45 minutes of waiting for the police, the tow truck driver spoke to his manager who then rudely spoke to us informing us that it was now going to cost us more money and promptly hung up mid conversation. After about an hour of us arguing with the driver, showing full bags of groceries the full bags of groceries and a receipt from the grocery store with the time stamped on it, along with a handicap placket hanging from the mirror in the truck ( shown to help the driver clearly see this was a momentary stop to drop off groceries and not a parking violation ) the tow company began to realize that we were intent on following up with our legal rights, ( they probably also realized that we were aware that the driver had violated the law and that the police were on the way) they eventually decided to drop the truck and leave. We did not pay for this drop! If you are ever in a similar situation, don't leave your car, stay seated in the driver seat, they cannot legally touch you, and just wait for the police. They are required by law to unconditionally drop your car if you catch them in the middle of, or prior to, the hookup or tow. This law applies to vehicles parked in condos and apartments and does not apply if you are parked in someone else's parking space or in front of fire lanes or hydrants. Please be aware that they can charge a fee of a maximum of 50% of their lawful tow charge if they meet Appropriate criteria. Their tow fee cannot exceed the fee they agree to charge the CHP. Unfortunately, you may have to walk into their office to find out the true fee. It is required to be posted on their wall. The California vehicle code is your friend. Vehicle Code Division 11. AAA sent American Towing to tow my truck which had been gutted by fire. A previous tow driver from another company had refused to tow the truck, saying he couldn't load the truck because the front wheels were not straight. The driver from American Towing just laughed when I told him that. He backed up to my truck at an angle so my truck would hit the bed of the tow truck when it arced back, then he used a couple of 4" x 4" boards to straighten the wheels and loaded it up with no problems in about 5 minutes. The driver from American Towing was prompt, efficient, professional and courteous. I highly recommend this company. read more

Unfortunately we needed them today on our way home from Laughlin. We had a truck and boat. John was our tow truck driver from the Barstow location and let me tell you the level of professionalism that he had was beyond. He did what he could to help us and get us home. I left my car keys at my previous destination and called AAA as soon as I landed at Ontario Airport saying I needed a tow truck to open my door so I can get my spare out. I called Doug at American Towing because the dealer installed alarm on my girlfriend's Ford Mustang disabled the vehicle and I couldn't figure out how to by-pass it (I've since learned how, yay!), and while he sounded pretty grumpy on the phone, he arrived in 15 minutes and was very helpful and informative. He tried to help us get the car going again, but wasn't able to. He was very careful in loading up the car onto his flatbed and got us to the shop shortly after. The cost was $55, which I felt was fair and I would definitely use American Towing again (hopefully I won't NEED IT, but at least I know that they'll do a good job. read more
