The fellow campers were wonderful and the campground and activities were very nice! However, we stayed in their 2 cabins. What we did not know was the cabins had been treated multiple times for bed bugs, and they were still infested. We found out the hard way! In the one night we stayed in the cabins, between my sister and I, we had around 180 bug bites! We were allergic and ended up having to be on multiple medications and Dr visits to address the reaction. Beware of the cabins! read more

Everything but keep working at it. They do TRY to make things better but still needs a lot of working. The owners daughter (Little Mrs. Oompa Loompa) has a smart mouth. People don't seem to happy with this campsite and 2 other people are already in my inbox about they're issues with AWC. And be careful around the grounds on July 4th... All those fireworks going into the woods, towards rvs and not in the sky. How dangerous! But don't worry, nothing is ever their fault and they do no wrong. They'll shoot back some dumb comment they're the "Best around"... "Not the campgrounds for everyone"... "State of the art sewer systems"... "Dirty bathrooms"... Ohhh the reviews on the ignorance of the staff are astonishing! If they weren't "closest to Cleveland" I'd never ended up there. I'll keep updating as I go and as I remember things. We loved the service and amenities. The laundry room was clean, and when there was flooding and availability, the management moved us right away to a new location that was level no questions asked using our Good Sam membership card. The only thing is we were told they had full hook ups so that's why we chose the place upon leaving another state, but it's only for overnight guests and then we stayed for a few months and had the pump out service, then purchased a tank to haul to the dump site for the grey tank. The staff were all very kind and hospitable, which made our transition a little better since we were away from the kids and that was really hard for us due to my husband's work. We loved the kindness towards our dog (some people don't keep their dogs on a leash so beware), then just tell them get their dogs on a leash. The lights at night are so beautiful from everyone's campsites and I love that you are not so militant about stomping that out like some RV sites. Thank you for allowing friends of ours to visit us from another state in their camper close to us. That was a lot of fun. Felt like home for just a little bit and was accommodating. Also, loved all the trees since we're from the Colorado Rocky Mountains. We are avid primitive tent campers, hunters, glampers - off grid RV too. We enjoyed your site. I've been here a few times for weddings. But this review is specifically based on the campsite. Sis booked a site for us- her pop-up camper and our tent for a late September weekend. Weather was perfect and our site was nice. We were situated on the fishing pond and across from the swimming area. We were also right on a golf cart trail, which was not awesome. Many of the regulars would fly down that path in their golf carts- kicking up lots of dust and rocks at our cars and tents. My car has dings and was filfthy. We were not far from the bathrooms, but this was the worst part of our weekend. There were only a few stalls in the public bathroom and they were tiny. It was very uncomfortable and impossible to handle lady business. The stalls sinks showers- everything was kind of gross. On Sunday morning, there was a moat around the whole building- you had to walk through a river if Unidentified liquid just to use the restroom. For this reason alone, I'll never camp here again The fire pit was very small- we couldn't even cook enough hamburgers for our crew over it. Soon after we arrived I took my 7 yr old niece to go find the bathrooms. I didn't know about the separate building so I went in the main area/ store where we checked in. It was busy- they were checking in several campers and there was a line. I waited for a moment, but little lady had to go. I peeked my head in the hallway and saw bathrooms so I headed there. Lady at the desk barked at me 'ma'am are you a camper? You can't use that restroom!' I explained I didn't know where they were and didn't want to interrupt her transaction but she just looked at me like I was stupid. Not very friendly. There was also an issue with a pair of young pre-teens who were behaving badly all over camp. They were quite rude to some people, tried to steal a bike, and were throwing rocks at people. I think the staff tried to handle it, but they/ be of them was the grandchild of a seasonal regular camper. It was uncomfortable and the kids stopped wanting to go play basketball/ swim/ playground etc once they heard about these kids. Even after they were 'talked to' the kids were still seen all around the grounds. read more

Nice big campgrounds. The reason I cannot give it more that 3 stars are as follows 1. No sewer hook ups but they do have a dump station. I think but not sure they do have emergency dumping at a cost. 2. You cannot fish in the pond near other trailers you can't even walk by the pond where other trailers are. For the money you pay as a Good Sam membership there are other Good Sam campgrounds that charge less with full hook ups 3. No propane service. The office was kinda enough to refer a good place but you have to drive, and they were closed Now the items I saw that could be monitored but are not 1. I absolutely love dogs but when you have 3 basset hounds out ALL day just a barking it really gets to ya 2. Again dog issues. The site behind us has 2 PitBulls. When anyone walked by they went absolutely crazy. To me if they got out they will rip you apart. The owners did try to control them with no prevailing 3. The same campsite that have the PitBulls apparently are not that smart. They dumped the sewer into the wooded area behind them. Overall the people are nice, ohh and they have a huge beach area to go and relax to have fun with the kids. read more

Thankful Thursday review! I enjoy the campground season of May-October every year. The Swimming Lake and Fishing Lake make the stay fun! Game Room gives kids away time from grownups but then campfires bring them back to just play and enjoy a starry night! Weekend events keep us returning year after year! read more

We spent a few weekdays at this campground and we enjoyed it! We had a great site near the swimming pond, our kids basically lived in the water whenever we were on site. We used this as a home base to visit Cedar Point and The rock and roll hall of fame- in decent driving distance for both. I will agree with other commenters that the negatives were the bathrooms and lack of full hook up sewer sites. We managed to pump out no problem, but admit it would've been nice to have a full hook up. A lot of people commented negatively about the seasonal campers, but we were there during the week so we didn't have any issues with that. Lots of areas on our site turned into major mud puddles after a little rain, which probably can't be avoided but just inconvenient. If we return to Ohio for camping I'd definitely consider staying here again! read more

I got a bit nervous when I saw other reviews for this campground. PLEASE IGNORE THEM! We've had a fabulous 3-night-stay for July 4th weekend. I called a week before, doubtful there would be any space left for the holiday weekend. When they said we could camp in their overflow area, I was even more anxious. It turns out that their overflow area is a spacious site that somehow felt secluded, but also near everything. The campground is kept very nicely. Bathrooms are a little older, but were excellent considering it is a campground on a holiday weekend. I was also expecting a lot of raucous guests. People had their fun, but the campground quieted down nicely for bedtime. The staff are dedicated and helpful. My kids caught 11 fish in the fishing pond (maybe the same fish 11 times!) and they spent hours in the swimming pond (there is no pool). There are multiple playgrounds, a fun game room, and organized activities for those who are looking for that. We enjoyed the DJ on Saturday night, the organized games, and the lantern release (pictured). We are typically state park campers. This private campground does not have a natural lake or river. There aren't hiking trails on site, nor is there much to do in town. But if you are looking for a hookup or a tent site for a weekend getaway, this place is an extremely enjoyable option. Oh, one more thing. Some people commented about Confederate flags etc. We have seen plenty of political statements at many campgrounds before. I was actually shocked at how little of that I saw around. For 4th of July weekend there was plenty of patriotism, but no politics. read more

I do not have words to describe the experience I had at this campground.we have been season campers for around 10 years and it was really great at first we had lots of fun and would go every weekend to our camper and have a blast that was until the pandemic, we where still aloud to go and we did but it started to get bad when the staff/owners would go around giving violations of the rules for things they approved then things got a little better when they faded away for a wile but then comes 2021 the same thing kept happening with random violations for no reason campers started speaking up but the owners response was up the price lower the electricity and up pump out rates everything got more expensive for less quality then came 2022 it became terrible they where moving things on peoples sites, throwing things away and yelling at kids for having electric dirt bikes in the rules there are no gas powered vehicles allowed except for cars to come and leave so campers use electric golf carts for transportation so kids thought electric dirt bikes would be ok (they where wrong) almost immediately they would told they cold not have them and where repeatedly yelled at and yes yelled at also the staff use gas posed kubotas for transportation then lastly came 2023 the final straw for us we started the season knowing it could be are last but still hoping things could change they did not instead prices where raised by 2x and the staff got super rude and this time we had enough we made the decision to leave and we plan on never coming back again they where so rude and disrespectful to there campers that loved to going and hanging out with friends and we are so sad that they would do stuff that that to there community of people who camp there so please if you go to this terrible rude place be prepared for rude staff and bad cabins. Also I don't know where to start with the cabins they are disgusting dirty and old the wood is rotting and thre are spider everywhere then there is tent camping there is glass everywhere and the ports potties seem to be never cleaned the front shower house has had at least 5 health violations and pond is dirty there are fish that bit you while swimming and if they did not die it it would poop brown In total this campground is atrocious and the staff is beyond rude to campers. read more

There were however 2 out houses. I was a seasonal "renter". I say renter because of the insane rental agreement I had to sign the day I moved my camper in. That happened 3 weeks after paying in full for the season, and since there are no refunds for anything meaning if I didn't sign the lease I was out the $3200. The staff is rude. So rude that it's difficult to describe the demeanor. They behave almost as if campers exist to keep them in business rather than they're in business to provide goods and services in exchange for payment. This place nickel and dimes you for everything. They don't have full hookup sites because "Grafton has no sewer system, so they don't either". But hold on, there's more! They'll come and pump out your black and gray tanks for $25 a visit and haul it to their dump station that's located on their campground. Yes you read that correctly, you can pay them to dispose of your waste on their site, but their site has no waste disposal because Grafton has no waste disposal. I paid up front for the weekly pump out, at a reduced rate of $20 a visit, but went 3 weeks once without a visit. When I complained that my tanks were full and I had to purchase a mobile tank to move my waste water the woman behind the counter called me a liar and showed me where her guy put a check mark in the box on the checklist, meaning that my tanks MUST have been emptied because it was checked off in black ink. I was a lone inhabitant of my camper, and the "rental" agreement allows families of 4 before the campsite charges for additional campers. My brother and his wife also planned to stay though the summer periodically. I wasn't permitted to add their names because only immediate family is covered under the rental agreement, even though a brother is immediate family and I paid an additional $800 for the season because I planned to be there more than 18 days a month. Eventually the old woman told her daughter that they needed to "help me out" because I was the only inhabitant. This only came after her explanation that even it you only visiting uncle Bob at Cedar Point, you still have to buy a ticket to get in to Cedar Point. I didn't have the heart to explain back to her that people don't live at Cedar Point for the summer, nor was that Cedar Point in any capacity. I could go on, and on, and on with more horrific stories of rudeness and uncomfortable experiences but I'll just close this up by warning anyone who thinks about camping there. DON'T!!!! read more

For RVers Good: Very quiet at night. Dumping station @ front entrance was well maintained & there was no line when we left around 1pm (check-out is 2pm). Bad: Crappiest wifi of any of the parks I've been to - basically non-existant regardless of your location. Provided Map of campsite & directions to space were horrible (we checked in after hours) - see picture of map & directions provided. Made for a very interesting evening while we hunted for the laundry room in the dark hours after it had closed. Apparently, the laundry room hours mirror the office hours. Would have been helpful if that were listed on the map legend or even the laundry room door. At $42 ($37.80 w/ Good Sam discount) it was a little too pricy for a no frills campsite w/ super crappy, bumpy unpaved roads, unusable wifi, tight RV spaces & no pool. Ugly: Huge overflowing garbage dumpsters & dumping station greet you just after the front entrance. read more

Reserved weeks ago for overflow site. Have camper and friends with tent. $80 per night site. Rain storm happened all weekend with area flood warnings. We didn't go. In addition to losing the one night deposit, they charged me both nights. I understand charging me for the deposit, but for both days? I asked for a one night credit towards another weekend and they said no with the response "Sorry, I wish we could be the perfect campground" They have my money, but I'll never go there and will share my experience with others. read more

Affordable, spotless, nice amenities. We stayed at American Wilderness while in the region for a soccer tournament. We didn't use amenities such as the sand beach with cabanas or game room but both were spotless and very well appointed - as was the main playground. The separate, stocked fishing lake was much enjoyed. The shower house was very clean and had ample hot water and the laundry facilities were fantastic. Registration/store area is large and well stocked. The sites are small but well laid out with a picnic table and fire ring. We had a pull-through site with water and electric which was great for easy in and out access. The campground appears to cater to long-term campers which lends a neighborhood feel. Even with the campground apparently packed the facilities are such that it never appeared "crowded." They have enough of everything for everyone so that showers, laundry, and beaches never seemed crowded. I liked the gated in/out access that helps control who comes in and out. When a scheduling conflict arose the staff graciously helped arrange parking for our camper for a nominal fee which was a Godsend. Would definitely recommend. read more

Worst campground ever. Our site , which we paid extra for so we could be by the lake, was public. Literally had groups of people, standing in our site, directly in front of our tent, fishing at 1230 at night. The people at the site next to ours stole my cellphone. We found them trying to get into my husband's truck as well. Another group ignored the rules and blasted music ALL NIGHT LONG. Everyone was rude . Judging by the owner responses on other negative reviews, I am sure this was somehow our fault. Ended up leaving after around 6 hours there. We camp all the time, avoid this place at all costs. read more

Wow! I was impressed because I drive by and it doesn't look like much from the entrance. Once you enter the view is amazing and the setup of the facility is very attractive and picturesque. Big huge lodge camp store with many items to purchase. Very clean facility with large spacious sites. Staff and campers were very friendly. Not sure what to say about this place. Stayed for a couple nights August 2015 during the week. The place was quiet and almost deserted. The game room was closed the whole time and the swimming lake not usable, so the kids were rather bored. They never turned on the bubbler in the lake and the water was pretty stagnant. There was a huge football-sized hornet's nest at our site. I told the main office but it was never removed during our stay. We needed to move the picnic table away from the tree to avoid being stung. In the campground itself, there are only pit toilets. The one bathhouse with flush toilets is at the entrance, so it was quite a walk. Although my wife said the women's bathroom was relatively clean, the men's was not. On the day we were to spend in Cleveland, one toilet was clogged the other was overflowing with sewer water. It was pretty disgusting. It was after 11:00 am and they still hadn't yet opened the office, so I couldn't let anyone know. We left for Cleveland, thinking someone would surely notice. After spending the day there, we came back in the early evening only to find the bathroom in the same state! The office was closed, of course, but someone was working on one of the gutters so I told him and it was then remedied. Although the camping area is "gated," once the office closes, the gates remain up all night--so there is really no point to the gates. Wasn't given a key card or code, but didn't matter int he end. There is a huge disconnect from what is advertised on the website and what you get. They seem to cater more to the new banquet hall that is attached to the main office than to campers. Was threatened by another camper 2x because i complained about how he parked two vehicles back to back so no one else can park in the guest or overflow parking area. Owner said she did not care how they parked. Probably because they have several lots and are long term campers and we aren't not! Terribly managed park little or no gravel on path ways. Not a sandy bottom swim areas as advertised. Staff turns off water based slides etc. For kids at dusk when dusk was almost 2 hrs away! Other camper asked why staff said because thats when i turn them off and if you dont like it you can go to another campground! No sewer and when you pay them to pump out they do it half or 3/4 thus they have to come back more often and pay for service again! Way too many issues- camping is suppose to be relaxing but NOT at this place! Go elsewhere please!! read more

We were looking at American Wilderness Campground for our wedding venue. I talked to a female representative about 3 weeks before actually going out to look at the event venue. She was really nice and tried to be as accommodating about information because she knew I was driving over an hour just to look the site. Yesterday (March 29) we made the trip in a snow storm to see it. The woman called us about 15 minutes into our drive to ask us if we were still coming. I told her we actually had 3 cars coming (my fiance & myself in one car, my parents from Akron,and my in-laws from Sandusky all made the trip in the snow storm). As soon as we got there, the woman introduced herself and immediately asked if we could change our wedding date because she booked our perspective date less than a week earlier. After I went into "panic bride mode," she stated that she would call the bride and see if she would move her date. I told her that was hardly likely. She still showed us around and the longer I was there, the more disappointed I got. Don't get me wrong, the place is beautiful! But, it is small. On the phone the woman told me that it seats 185 and she has had, at most, 203. When we walked into the event hall, it was set up for a cramped 96 people. I say "a cramped" because the phrase "asses to elbows" also comes to mind. We are expecting to have 160 (20 tables) plus head table. The woman started to feed us a line about how we can fit 5 tables in a row and another 3 rows in the room. She also started saying things like "breaking down tables for a dance floor." My father and I paced it out. 160 people would fill the space, and possibly not even give us a dance floor. The possibility of fitting 203 people in the space is ridiculous. You have the option here to bring in your own bar. So, we looked at the bar. It is a counter. No washing sinks, no place for ice (and you have to buy your own ice and bring it in), no glasses, no taps for kegs or soda. All in all I'm disappointed and kind of feel lied to. The other bride called back when we were about to walk out and told the woman she wouldn't change her date. That's ok, my wedding wouldn't fit there anyways. read more

What a joke. Where do I start with this train wreck? They sent us to a muddy campsite. They never answer the phone. The "general store" wasn't open until 1pm when it was supposed to be open at 11am. The staff is cocky and rude. The icing on the cake was that at the little beach they had (that actually was nice) had worker there turned on the fountains with everyone there and ruined one of our campers iPhone. When we went to the main office they were cocky and told us that its not their problem and that a manager wold call us. Never happened. Grounds keeper came and mowed the grass and Got grass all over our stuff and our food. Also the showers are gross. What a shame. Great property terrible staff. We had a nice experience here. When we checked in, the site they gave us was a pull through (we hadn't requested one) and was very narrow and the grass was filled with muddy ruts as if someone with big tires peeled out right in the middle! No thank you! So I went back to the office and she happily moved us to a back in site and refunded the $8 difference. That site was perfect with pretty pine trees right in front of the swimming lake. I liked that the overnight area is separate from the permanent sections. Not to offend anyone but permanent sites tend to be junk hoarders, so I don't like to be next to them. I marked down a star for the disgusting restrooms. I also think it's a bit pricy for no sewer on site, but there was no line at the dump station. We will go back! read more

I stayed here for 5-6 months this past year. I travel the country for work and experience a lot of camp grounds. The staff here is very friendly. Love the gated entrance but it's usually open all night. The long term spots are in the back away from the weekenders who come through. Yes the power did go off a couple times while I was here. I believe anyone with a RV should have a Generator, I hooked mine up and was good to go while the power was out. The water is too pressure and I always keep my fresh water tank full Incase of a issue. Reason for 4 stars is the spots are not full hooks ups. They are suppose to be working on installing sewage before the beginning of next year from what I was told. So I purchased a portable tank and every two days had to dump due to doing laundry on my rig. They do offer a dump service which they pump out your rig but from reviews this can potentially do damage and I ran across a bad seal on my rv black tank that luckily I caught and had fixed by a Mobile RV company they gave me the information for. Will be staying here again if I'm in the area for work! Also the 4th of July party was great!! read more

I have to admit, I was asking for a lot. I called the day before Labor day weekend. Cindy could not be more accomodating!! Instead of hearing, "we are full up, sorry!" Cindy said, let me find you a spot. We parked in their lot with electrical and that was perfect for me!! It was their overflow lot and my family had a great time. The park is well kept and has great facilities. The store is very reasonably stocked and the staff goes over the top to help. I strongly recommend and cannot thank Cindy enough for her hospitality and kindness. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE! Water is a major problem. It backs up into your rv. Electricity goes out for hours at a time. They do not care if your losing money for all your food in your refrigerator or that you have to make other accommodations because it's 90 degrees in your rv. They also won't refund your money even though they have totally screwed you over!! read more
