What can I say about this place??!! Honestly, Super awesome place for kids and adults to have fun, get physical, learn discipline and gain new friends. My son has only be coming for about a month at 6 years old. We tried when he was about 3 or 4 at their old location and he was not ready to focus. The training area is huge and the kids all have plenty of room to practice. This place is a little bit of a drive for us even though we have a handful of martial arts studios closer to us, we don't mind the drive since the teachers are so great. Mr. Jason, Mr. Brandon and Mrs. Noelle are so patient and you can tell they all love their "jobs". They make it look effortless on how well they get all the kids to interact, listen and respond. The class sizes are managed by belt sizes and there are always enough teachers that every kid gets attention. They just had their 10 year anniversary even though we have only been coming a month we feel like part of the family already and plan on staying for as long as our son gets a black belt ;) Also, I really love how this place is also month to month pay structure. We come 2x a week. I recommend having your kids do a 2 week trial. They wont regret it!! No pressure to sign up, the kids all look so eager to be there and you can see how many people were at their 10yr anniversary not to mention all that couldn't make it. LOVE. My 12yo son is just starting, was very nervous the first day, but they had him fitting right in. My son has social anxiety, but craves individual style physical challenges (climbing, parkour...). Hapkido has been a perfect fit. I thought it would be "too baby/too beginner" for him, as a 12yo, but even with younger kids in the beginner class, he didn't feel too old. Didn't know what to expect when my 8 year old daughter and I walked into Evolution Martial arts. I'm a new single dad struggling to get my daughter motivated in any activities. One day while we were having lunch I bought up martial arts to her and she said she'll give it a try. Inspired of the thought of her trying anything new I began my google search. We spend the next afternoon driving to all the different martial art classes within a 10 mile radius of our home in Chatsworth. Our last stop was Evolution. Man was I impressed. 1st and far-most the facility is great. It's very important for me to see my daughter comfortable. The facility is very clean, open, and bright. You can rest assure that they make an effort to keep all the children safe. The layout for the kids to train while the parents sit and wait is awesome. Now lets talk about the instructors, Jayson was the our introduction to Evolution. He is very welcoming and accommodating. He gave us a tour of the facility and talk to us about trying a class out as a trial. I looked at my daughter and could see the hesitation and insecurities about to come up in her eyes. But Jayson has a special skill with children. His caring assertiveness kicked in and gave my daughter the little push of confidence she needed to just Try. So she did and we've been here a month or so and I already see a difference in my daughter. The other instructors are just as great, professional, and well respected by all. The classes are quite entertaining. Jayson's witty banter with our children is hilarious. Which is why this Works! Evolution is the best! We have been searching for a martial arts program that would be engaging, supportive and fun for our 8 year old son for quite some time. We have had some mediocre experiences in the past with other martial arts programs. So when our friends asked if we wanted to do a trial, we were hesitant. So glad we gave it a try. On day one of the trial, my son asked if we could join and I could see why. The overall environment (instructors, facility, families) all contribute to an environment of mutual respect and community. The kids are learning and having so much fun. Added plus... they also have a Crossfit program which coincides with my son's martial arts class. So I get in an awesome workout while he takes class! After months of watching the members of the Crossfit gym workout, I finally decided to give it a try. We signed our daughter up for Evolution's online Hapkido classes. Classes are held via Zoom after school and it works out well for us since we don't live near a studio. Master Jason makes it so much fun for the kids, my daughter always looks forward to class. The quality of instruction and attention to each student is top notch. The most valuable aspect of Evolution is that we do indeed see an evolution in her character--she's becoming more confident in her abilities and more disciplined. I am so grateful to Master Jason, Master Brandon and Master Noelle. They are the nicest and humblest people as well as very gifted instructors. If you are in the area, the studio is spacious and clean. It's a well-run place, the parents and kids always seem really happy to be there. I joined Crossfit Evolution almost 2 months ago and I can't imagine going back to the gym again. I'm officially addicted! There are many reasons why we opt to drive our son all the way to Evolution when there are so many around our area. My husband and I did our research: instructors, students, space and safety; flexibility with schedules and their program. Evolution is 5 stars in all those aspects. I found Evolution Martial Arts through yelp less than one year ago. After searching and calling numerous places I finally came across the one place that answered my call with respect and descent customer service. Jason who is one of the head Master's at Evolution gave me all the info needed over the phone and offered a 2 week free try out class for my daughter. We started the 2 week try out and before the first week had even ended, I immediately started the program and signed my daughter up. Its been well over 6 months now and we love and enjoy each and every class. Going into the first class was very difficult because my little one was afraid of starting and terrified of strangers in general. Jason himself was very patient and understanding. After a couple classes my daughter was begging to go in more often. I appreciate everything they have done for us. Not only has my now 5 year old came out of her shell but the courage and confidence shes gotten out of this is priceless! They teach how to respect one another, how to properly introduce yourself as well as how to defend and protect one another. The discipline thought here is more than i could ask for, it's seriously one big happy family at Evolution! I've been interested in finding some form of martial arts for my 4 year old son to start and there were so many options available. Ultimately I wanted him to learn to focus, have more discipline and be able to defend himself and I think that's the goal of most martial arts. Evolution offered a two week trial which was fantastic because as a parent you want to ensure your child is enjoying what he's doing before you commit to classes/uniform etc. Jason and Brandon the owners, were both welcoming and great teachers. There was no sales pitch or pressure to join, the classes speak for themselves. Before committing to Evolution, I took my son to a few different martial art schools to try out (they gave one free lesson and expected you to join immediately afterwards and the level of instruction wasn't even close to what you get at Evolution). My son loves going to his classes, which are the right size for his age - I found other schools had around 10-12 kids in a class, so your child just gets 'lost' in the numbers or the teacher couldn't control the class - you can't teach discipline and focus if you can't control the kiddo's!! I'd definitely recommend Evolution to anyone who's interested in martial arts for their kids. read more

--UPDATE 08/2015-- Where do I even start? This is the 2nd summer I've been here and this place is as awesome as ever. Evolution Martial Arts & Crossfit is NOT your typical box. The people here will become your family, this place will become your second home, and you will never want to consider another place to work out again.. I first checked out this place last summer because I wanted to learn some kind of martial arts and was also looking for an activity that would distract me from ongoing struggles in my personal life - Jason, one of the owners and the main martial arts instructor, was incredibly encouraging from the first second of my first class with him, all the way until now (2 summers later). I never would have considered starting Hapkido (I was originally here for kickboxing), but his enthusiasm for both the sport and his students pulled me into his classes. The staggering amount for which he cares for the people at his gym is seriously baffling, and I am forever grateful to have such a presence in my life, let alone to have him as an instructor. Soon enough, I was encouraged to start Crossfit as well. I had never lifted a barbell in my life, but without even expecting it, the constant 1:1 guidance, the incredible motivation and attitude of the coaches (Shoutout to Brandon, Mario, and Walter!!), and thrill of working out with people who inspire and motivate you hooked me in forever. The size of the classes may be growing, but the 1:1 training has not changed. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable and prioritize safety while making sure you pass your preconceived limits! Moreover, they have turned into my friends who are not only there to help me work out, but also there as people I can hang out and have a good time with. Keep in mind that I'm normally shy around new people and can be plagued by insecurities, but never have I ever felt so welcomed and cared for by coaches and people at a gym. TLDR: The coaches and people working out at this place will help you surpass your own limits, will increase your mental AND physical confidence, will give you a fun and safe workout, and will be the best box you will ever train at. Unfortunately I can only be here over the summer due to my schedule at school, but this place will forever be the gym I return to, and the gym that helped lift heavy personal burdens off my shoulders every time I walked in. JUST SHOW UP! You will be happy you did! I have been doing CrossFit for several weeks now after having some apprehension about doing it as it looks so hard core, but I can assure you that it is a great workout. Brandon, one of the owners of Evolution Martial Arts Academy and CrossFit and one of the CrossFit coaches, really works with each person to ensure correct form before adding weight and moving on. I appreciate the attention to detail and correct form as I am not interested in doing a move that can potentially sideline me for days,weeks or months on end. Coach Brandon and Coach Allison are great coaches with lots of experience in Cross Fit. They are good about breaking down the technical aspects of how to do a specific exercise. Each person that walks through the door is always welcomed with a smile and tons of enthusiasm . The studio and the cross fit area is kept nice and clean which as a parent, I always appreciate. The mat space for martial arts and kickboxing is huge and I look forward trying out those two programs. You are treated like a regular right away - the coaches take away the intimidation factor and ease you in. As a beginner to crossfit - I had no idea what I was doing. You don't just jump into heavy lifting and find your way. You start in an intro class where you learn techniques first - weight later. After 4 weeks - you advance to the "regular" class and make progress and set goals. As a business owner in Santa Monica - I have the leisure to drive back to the valley and make a 7pm - 8pm class. I have nothing but great things to say about this place. I originally looked into options for myself and 3 kids (ages 8-5-3) to get healthy in a fun way at the same time. They're responses to all of my concerns were addressed thoroughly with multiple options and plans that would best suit my family needs. Unfortunately, due to COVID the classes offered for my 3 y/o was no longer available. This is not a bad thing it's just a testament to how conscious and proactive this company is for the safety of themselves and the safety of their members. Already a plus in my book. Gyms are the easiest way to pick up germs and when I stepped foot into this gym it was clean, neat, and completely organized with sectioned off space for each member to safely work out at a conservative safe distance. There is great ventilation and organization of how they run their classes. My 2 older kids joined the Hapkido program and they absolutely LOVE it. Jason is amazing with the kids especially with the little ones that have an attention span of ZERO. They teach the kids not only technics of the martial art but basic life skills like how to be a model citizen. They meditate before class for a few mins and at the end of class they have knowledge discussions that range from honesty to the meaning of community. The 2 week free trial is an awesome way to really get a good feel if this is the right place for you. I highly recommend this place. this review is long overdue as we have been EVOMAA members since early 2015. full disclosure: my husband went to college with Mr. Brandon, one of the co-owners, who invited us to bring our then four-year-old son in for a free lesson. our son took to it quite naturally and we signed up! he's moved through the tiny tigers program and is now on his way to the black belt club as part of the hapkido jrs program. our youngest son started the mini cubs program over the summer; my husband takes adult hapkido when his work schedule allows. in the last three years, our lives have been enriched in several ways. i have made more than a few close friends, which as a full-time stay-at-home mom, can sometimes be difficult, lol. it's been nice to have other parents to lean on and commiserate with during the hour-long classes 2-4x a week, you know? to watch our oldest son gain both skill and confidence has been an ongoing joy - the instructors, especially Mr. Jason, have high expectations, are firm but warm in their teaching style, and know how to balance the strict standards with fun activities. His style in particular is well-suited to how our son learns best - we also find it to complement our own parenting style at home, so the consistency is appreciated. EVOMAA goes beyond martial arts instruction and spends some time during each class talking about important values, character traits, and lifestyle changes with the kids. they talk about how to be a good student, how to act responsibly and respectfully at home, and how to take care of their bodies (our youngest son loves to say, "no vegetables, no class!") so they can perform to their best abilities. the connections between what the kids do on the mat and at school and at home is definitely something we haven't seen at the boys' other extracurricular activities. beyond classes, another aspect of EVOMAA we really like is how they celebrate the students' achievements. belt tests and ceremonies take place every couple of months. I cry at every single one! when the students pass their exam, they take part in a ceremony the next day where they receive their new belts. Mr. Jason and Mr. Brandon always give a speech commending the students' progress and effort and often give special recognition to those who showed exemplary work. Sometimes the demo team puts on a performance of skills and tricks, which they choreograph themselves. It's really something you have to see for yourself. They also give us parents regular updates and relevant information - in fact, EVOMAA provides everything we need to know via email, text notifications, and on its website, which is super helpful for busy families! They also respond timely if you have additional concerns. most recently, we threw our youngest son's 4th birthday party at the studio. to say it was a huge success would be an understatement! the entire EVOMAA team made the whole party so easy for us. there were three instructors on the mat and they led the kids through an obstacle course, warm ups, agility/balance/speed relays, basic hapkido forms (six positions, punches, stances, rolls, kicks, etc.), and games. to witness 28 kids of all ages be fully engaged and actively participating for more than an hour was extremely impressive. Mr. Jason shows a command over both children and adults that I have only seen in past life as an elementary school teacher: the children listen intently and respond with the same respect he shows them. the parents of our son's classmates at the party were extremely impressed with the quality of the entertainment/activity and with the ease in which the party handled serving pizza and birthday donuts to a table full of hungry, excited children. an added bonus is the certificate for six free classes so that each child that participated at the party can come back for a real class! TL;DR - joining EVOMAA is one of the best things we've done for our children and we are grateful for their continuing influence on our sons' health, self-esteem, and positive attitude. read more

My family & I have been members of Evolution for almost 5 months and I cannot praise this place enough. Two things brought Evolution to our attention: the positive word of mouth, and the fact that they offered both Crossfit AND martial arts classes. We were looking for a gym that all four of my family members could attend at the same time, and we found it at Evo. My teenage son, my wife and I attend the Crossfit classes while our youngest attends Martial Arts classes. Crossfit: The classes are great. The coaches and instructors have created a safe, educational, and challenging environment for all skill levels. I, personally, have never been part of any formal structured workout program; yet the coaches made me feel comfortable and at ease. Coaches Brandon, Mario and Walter are all amicable and very knowledgeable. They push all the athletes to their best, but make sure they do it safely and to the best of the athlete's ability. I took the Be Your Own Bodyguard self defense course here about a month ago. It was AMAZING! After a 4 hour Saturday class, I walked away feeling way more confident and comfortable in my own shoes. I found this class through my dad, who's been doing cross fit here for about a year now. The coaches are all so kind and have always been very welcoming to my family and I when we come visit. My dad has never been happier, and he's been in various forms of martial arts and fitness programs good whole life. I can't say enough wonderful things about this place. My son has been going to EVO for over one year and each time he goes, he is more and more motivated! Besides just doing physical activities, they also teach the children to practice manners and respect outside in the real world. This isn't my regular gym anymore, but I loved the feeling after my workouts at Evolution. Crossfit at Evolution has really shown me how much I can improve in strength and cardio. I was sore after my classes but I always felt motivated to push myself as much as I could. Coach Brandon and Coach Allison always told me to scale down if I needed to and gave me great advice. I had to stop training at Evolution because I had to move closer to my work. I have since joined a gym closer to my new home but it is not the same. There are days where I am willing to drive all the way to Chatsworth to take a class. I try to stay in touch with them and they always tell me I welcome at EVO any time. This was my first CrossFit gym, and I could not be happier. The instructors are super helpful and the classes are relatively small. I know they are getting bigger, so they have begun to offer more classes in the evenings. The only reason I am not going there now is because it is a little out of my way. But I will be returning shortly, because I truly miss going. My now almost 6 year old son started Evolution Martial Arts after being gifted free classes from a birthday party he attended to at EVO. From day one, he was intrigued by the class and the instructors. From the first class, we found the staff welcoming, friendly, and fun (even to watch). Classes are technique oriented, while not being overly oppressive. They provide a very healthy structure, teach respect, mindfulness, and body control, all while keeping the class light hearted and super fun! Mr. Jason is an inspiring mentor to my son, and both my husband and I enjoy his ways of teaching- he's extremely funny! In fact, All the teachers are wonderful and caring and super attentive! My son has been going to EVO since September 2017. Before attending this class, my son was very shy in preschool, he never participated in circle time singing, he couldn't control his body- he kept moving around. NOW, my son is in kindergarten and he is the one student out of 6 other kindergarten classes to stand in front of a microphone in the auditorium of the school to lead a recital about kindness!! All this is thanks to the amazing time and energy put into allll the children in the class. The main thing that makes me extremely happy is seeing the high level of confidence and enthusiasm in my son whenever I tell him that he has Hapkido class that day. He absolutely loves it and most of all he is so passionate and respectful towards Hapkido!! Within one year, my son enthusiastically worked his way up from white belt all the way to green belt! My son has been a tiny tiger at Evolution for a little over year now and he has improved a great deal in terms of his development in self-control and respect for others. I also love that he is learning leadership skills and great work ethics. My son has been taking Hapkido at Evolution for the past year. In this short amount of time, I have seen a vast improvement in his balance, coordination, strength and discipline. Evolution Martial Arts is absolutely amazing and we highly recommend them to everyone we know. Their MiniCubs and Tiny Tigers Hapkido classes provide the perfect balance of physical activity, discipline and fun and our son looks forward to going to class every week. All of the instructors are phenomenal and they keep the children engaged with different activities that vary from class to class. They work towards improving each child's self discipline, communication skills and confidence while also encouraging the kids to work together as a team and have fun. Performance incentives are given such as stickers, goodies from the treasure chest and belt stripes and individual achievement goals are set for the students. These help keep the kids interested and encourage them to stay focused and work hard towards improving their performance and skills. When a child performs especially well or masters a certain skill, they are recognized in front of the class. Over time the kids are rewarded with tips on their belts and progression to the next belt color/level resulting in high self-esteem. The instructors can be strict with the kids and they hold them accountable for their behavior but they do it in a way that commands respect and fosters positivity. They challenge the children to improve their skill set and be their very best. Our son started taking classes when he was 3 years old and he is now 4 1/2. During this time he has greatly improved his balance, flexibility, concentration, core strength, knowledge of the positions and listening skills. I tried Evo because of the fact that they offered an Intro Class (4 weeks) that gradually teaches you the proper form and technique for the various Crossfit movements. After 4 weeks at Evo, I found myself loving Crossfit, wanting to learn more from the coaches, and enjoying getting to know the people that I became friends with. I was hesitant in joining any Crossfit box because I had back injuries that limited me to what I could do. Plus I was overweight and unmotivated. A friend of mine had posted her awesome results since joining Evo. I was surprised how close in location the box was and I was especially enticed with the free 2-week offer. Other boxes I looked at only offered 1 free day and their intro classes was a week long. Evo has a 1 month on-ramp beginner class that ensures a stable foundation before you move on to the regular classes. The coaches (Mario, Walter, Brandon & Jason) are great and make sure that proper form and technique is followed. My first class I was barely able to complete a full set of lunges. I felt defeated and realized how out of shape I've become. But that didn't stop the coaches from giving up on me. Plus the community! People I did not know we're cheering me on and that ignited a fire inside me. I fell in love with Evo and Crossfit because of how strong I've become, the confidence it gave me and the amazing friendships who've become my 2nd family.
