Scheduled service. Guy evidently showed up, needed instructions about where the gas tank is despite having serviced before. Doesn't come to the door, leaves a voicemail but no return phone number. Contacted the company and they advised we needed to be careful to pick up our phone (after being put on hold for over an hour waiting to talk to someone at Amerigas). Right. Better idea: whenever you cant figure out where to put the gas in a tank you have serviced for many years 1) go to house, 2) knock on door, 3) ask for assistance locating the gas tank or 4) call and leave a voicemail with a return phone number. But for now, 5) find new customer and 6) watch for many more negative reviews. There is a reason you are Yelp sub 2. Absolutely inexcusable systemic ineptitude! read more

Got an 18lb portable canister. Won't dispense gas. Them: "where and when did you buy it". Me: "No idea". Them: "Give me the credit card first and last 4". Me: "No idea". I then took a guess which CC; they "found" my transaction - but in another state (NM vs AZ). Don't think I drove to Albuquerque to buy propane. Anyway, I did end up with a coupon for a replacement tank, which hopefully works. But it's annoying this happened in the first place, and took 20 minutes on the phone to resolve it. read more

Customer service or at least empathy is non-existent. What part of I have an "order summary" THEY EMAILED to me don't they understand or acknowledge. They will not give the discount they offered in December with is clearly listed on the order summary. I was transferred to three different representatives and they all were of no help at all. Warning for propane customers out here, Amerigas, aka Indiagas, is a scam outfit. There are a few very reasonable and honest local propane suppliers around PR and Marana, but this company is not. My Dad had them for the trailer next door for over 30yrs. There has been no propane use for about 5+ years now. They were charging tank rent of about $90 a year. We paid it for 2024, and sent them the new mailing address and phone number stapled to the check and bill stub. With the busy year of moving Dad, updating all of our accounts, insurances, records, subscriptions, utilities, changing banks, and in and out of hospitals with Dad, I didn't think to look for this once-a-year bill. I got a letter from a collection agency to Dad at our new address. The complaintent was Amerigas seeking to collect over $200. I called the local number for Amerigas, which turned out to be a call center in India. No one there speaks understandable English, so communication was difficult. They said it was for the tank rent, plus 4 late fees. I told them they never sent a bill, yet they were able to send the correct address to the collection agency. They closed their local office in Tucson, and apparently the transfer to India did not go well. They had his old address and disconnected phones in their database, but some central office here had the current data. I told them this was their problem, and could they take off the late charges if I paid right now. They would only knock it down to $135. I had them update the address and phone on their database (a painful 1/2 hour), and asked them to send a bill to the correct address. They would only discount the bill if I paid over the phone. To a call center in India. The tank was 50% full, was the original from 35years ago, and hadn't been used for over 5 years. I told them that if that's how they want to do business, come pick up the tank and credit us for the 75gals of propane. After talking with my brother, he wanted to use it later, so I called them back, told them to leave the tank alone, and I would pay the fee over the phone. They accepted the payment, but said they would leave the account closed until our next propane order. I verified that they'd leave the tank alone. The next morning, the tank was gone. No phone call, no paperwork. I called them back to find out what happened, and how much we'd get back. They said the distributor (where customers are not allowed) had to verify the amount and would get back to us. A week and a half later, nothing. I called back (each time, always getting transferred at least three times), and they said we owed them more money! They said the pickup fee was $420 and the propane was $70 short of that! I wasn't nice and told them good luck getting that extra money, and that I still haven't seen a receipt or a bill. I asked them to check the contact info again, and it still wasn't updated. I made them update it again and then finished with them. I looked up their pickup fee on their website and it was $299, not $420! I was so mad that I filed a formal complaint with the BBB. I got a confirmation from the BBB, and today, a call from an English-speaking apologist from Amerigas with a pre-scripted excuse. Sorry but they weren't going to do anything. I told them that publishing one price, but charging another is fraud. She said the $299 was the pickup fee, and the extra $120 was for a transport fee? Buried separately in their "terms and conditions"? Really? Scammers! May file a complaint with the state, too. It's not about the money now, it's about keeping these scum from scamming others around here. read more

The first words you will read on the website say "come on down and see us" but you can't. Giant sign out front says "propane bottles filled here" but they aren't. Corporate website first paragraph on the home page says "working hard for better service...... to whom exactly? Not customers. I got an exchange bottle for a camping trip only to find it has a broken valve. Luckily, fire restrictions weren't in place so we could still cook food. I didn't want to be the jerk that just puts it back in the exchange, plus I would appreciate credit for the gas I was unable to use (that was just wishful thinking really). No can do with this outfit and I'm not wasting any more time on it so if you get your grill tanks from one of those automated exchange deals, beware of a-holes like me turning in faulty tanks because they left me no option to dispose of this hazard properly. read more

DO NOT USE FOR ANYTHING (other then grill tanks)! My Mother died in 11/2021, property was sold 4/2023. Received bill on 1/2024 - discussed w/ local affiliate BEFORE outsourced customer service and resolved...so I thought. Now getting additional monthly bills w/ late fees!!! There is NO customer service It is all outsourced. Don't bother trying to call the "local" number on your bill - it goes straight to the outsourced company in a DIFFERENT COUNTRY and their "capabilities" to assist are non existent! I asked to be transferred to the local office - said they couldn't do that as "they don't have the number". Then asked if they would contact them and have them call me. This would be a zero-star review if I could. I have been with AmeriGas for the last 8 years and had zero issues with them--until this past year. Over the last year, they have raised my rate by nearly $1,000 and made it nearly impossible to contact them. Recently, I switched to a local company that actually answers their phones and treats you like a human being. That being said, I have spent the last three days on hold for over an hour each time, trying to cancel my service with AmeriGas. They told me, "If your tank runs empty, there will be no pick-up fee." Well, guess what? Now they want $300 to pick up their tank. To make matters worse, I discovered that the tank was manufactured in 1993 and has never been tested--no hydrostatic testing, nothing. The tank is dangerous. Do they care? Of course not. They just keep putting me on hold and refuse to answer even the most basic questions about why they won't pick up their own tank. read more

I replaced my propane company that was a family-based business to AmeriGas because they had an attractive program and with gas prices so high I was able to afford it. When I requested a refill of my propane tank (this was the 2nd refill of 100 gallons) I was shorted by 40 gallons. Customer service was so difficult it took hours to get a live person. Anyway, after much struggle I was able to get a credit for the shortage. They sent a technician to replace the meter when in fact there was nothing wrong with it. I was still short and the needle on the new meter was no different than the old one. Because of this I decided to go back to my old account with a family-based business, and they were glad to have me back no charge! AmeriGas did not pick up their tank and left it on my property for months and promptly charged me for the pickup! I need to warn customers that this company is so big there's nothing you can do about the charges that they claim is a service charge of over $200.00!! This is a predator company that adds up ridiculous charges that boggles the mind. You cannot save any money once you are in contract with them. Reasoning with them doesn't work. Buyer Beware. When we signed up for Amerigas we purchased 100 gallons of propane, which came to a little under $300. They said they'd put in 10 gallons, then come back and fill 90 later. They said they came back when I wasn't home and put in the other 90 gallons. I assumed the fuel gauge was broken, so called in for repair. They set a date, and that date came and went. Two weeks later I called it in again, and the same thing happened. When they got here they had a receipt for the other 90 gallons of propane, my gauge worked fine, and there were no leaks in my system. Amerigas implied that I had wasted 90 gallons in 2 months, and charged me $300 more for another 100 gallons. The last 100 gallons has lasted 6 months since then, with no changes in my propane usage. I can't prove they stole $300 from me, otherwise I'd be taking this to small claims court, I don't have an alternative to recommend yet, but stay away from Amerigas. read more

New Customers BEWARE: Fraudulent Inspection Charges (As a new customer they said they needed to inspect our propane tank and lines. We waited all day for them to come on the appointment date and they never came and never called. They claimed to have gone the next day and inspected it and billed us for the service. It turns out that on the day of the service they suddenly claimed that the road was "Undrivable" and they would not fill. Give me a break, we have had over 50 different vehicles at our home there ranging from 2 wheel drive cars to regular SUV that don't have 4 wheel drive (It was built and had a propane tank and many other things so how is the road "Undrivable"?, Why then did the inspection team note that prior to scheduling a date if someone actually went there to inspect our tank? Oh they conveniently billed it right away though, so then the only explanation was that NO-ONE actually went there. Be prepared when you call for anything because it is Impossible to talk to anyone without waiting for hours on the phone. Don't take my word for it, give them a call and you will see how far in que they will put you in (we have been number 97, 94, 89, etc.) and there is ZERO options to leave a message or get a callback when your turn comes up. The message is to try and communicate via their web page and send them a message. Who monitors these messages, as we have sent 4 different ones with absolutely no response. Once they give you an appointment date there is no confirmation calls, no update calls on the day before or day of service, and when they don't show up, no calls for rescheduling. Instead, they will come on another day without notice and if you are not home, will claim to do an inspection with no one actually witnessing it. Don't rely on their appointment dates. We have taken more than 4 days off work to drive to the new property only to sit and wait. We learned to call them on the day of service (because they wont give you any warning to save your personal days off) to be told that they would not be coming to fill our propane tank, and instead issued a "GUARANTEED" Service call the next day. What happened on this guaranteed day I took another day of work for? We had to call them to find out that they would be coming the next day instead. The supervisors said they would give us a call to let us know if it was a morning or afternoon delivery of propane, but all we got was an automated call that they would be coming the next day (finally a call!). On the day of service we had to call THEM to find out they would not be servicing our property. If this is how a new potential customer is treated then I have done my part in warning other potential customers of the WORST customer service experience in my life time. read more

I'm really unhappy with the time it takes to speak to someone, especially when calling the local office. Wait times of over an hour are ridiculous and certainly not conducive to good customer service. I scheduled delivery well before Christmas and was told to go online to check for a date, but it still only lists the same window of two weeks and no further details. I cannot get through to get more information. I cannot use the online chat even though it is offered as it never seems to be available at anytime (I've only tried it during normal business hours). I'm so very frustrated. My dad has been a loyal AmeriGas customer for a very long time. If this was for my tank, I would look for other options. read more

AMERIGAS sticks it to the little guy! This company will draw you in with lots of offers like low-cost rates and upfront discounts to sign up for three years. Then they've got you and they stick you with outrageous Propane Prices and your second year they charge tank rental fees and you are locked in so you cannot cancel without a termination fee. They end up costing you anywhere from $300-500 each time you fill up. Do not sign up with this company unless you can afford it! There are other options like do-it-yourself tanks and Sonoita Propane. read more

Used website to schedule a fill on our tank on 11/27/2020. Then called AmeriGas for confirmation. On hold for over an hour. Website shows fill dates of 11/28/2020 - 12/7/2020 which the representative confirmed. If we needed it earlier, they're happy to charge me $300.00. On 12/1/2020 called again, on hold over an hour, to see when the delivery would be completed. Representative stated the delivery would be completed by end of business 12/7/2020, but for a fee of $300.00 they will deliver earlier. Was told supervisor has been notified and will contact delivery department and call us back. No call back. No communication. Called again 12/8/2020 and representative stated, "oh the website is inaccurate as it shows 10 calendar days, however, policy is 10 business days. But for a $300.00 fee they'll come out earlier. We passed on paying a fee that we should not be charged. Now on 12/14/2020, called and placed on auto hold for 90 minutes and hung up on. Called a second time and auto hold system took over. Attempted to use the "CHAT online". Wrote and sent request. Message comes up that due to covid and lack of staff to please call the 18004274968. Same phone line as the local number I called. wait time at least 98 minutes. System hung up on me again. read more

Feel like I was totally ripped off. Already had a known gas leak from the gauge. The technician came by and verified it could not be fixed and the gauge might be stripped off it was removed. Decided to use the pool heater to burn down the remaining gas and come back and work the gauge when empty. No issues with that. It is the $39.99 dispatch fee, the $105 for 30 minutes of labor, 10.95 HAZ MAT fee and the 5.24 fuel fee. Over $160 and Ive still got the issue. read more

It's our first experience with propane so we just went with the company we recognized, Amerigas. Getting an account set up was a mild nightmare. A lot of back and forth, much miscommunication and far more work on the customer end than I would expect. When they finally set the tank (which was 2 days later than they said it would be) they didn't fill it for another week after that although they had our $600 in advance to even setting the appointment. The original fill was suppose to be 200 gallons at 80% but when I checked it we only had 60%. We had a $100 off coupon so we decided to fill once more with them, this time only 100 gallons which should be 40%, but they only filled to 30%. They were also a week late again in coming out and lost our paperwork 3 times. I've tried to call them to complain and see what is going on but every time their "system is down" and when I call back they are closed... at 2pm apparently. I don't know if all Amerigas companies are run like this, or only this one but I will just avoid them as a whole in the future. read more
