I was forced to call customer service because the app no longer works because I tried to set up biometric access and now the app simply flashes that the biometric access doesn't work and consequently it blocks manual access to the app. So I called the customer service number and the computer asked me seven or eight questions and then went back to the originals choices it had offered me before it asked me the seven or eight questions. So I finally got a customer service agent who proceeded to ask me exactly the same questions the computer had just asked me. Finally when I got done answering all the questions I asked what my account number was because their app doesn't work correctly and she told me uninstall the app and reinstall it. So I said I had just done that and she immediately said so why don't you uninstall the app and reinstall it. These people are idiots. read more

I had a partial power issue, and after waiting on hold for two hours, I explained the problem and they said they would send someone out to investigate. When the guy finally showed up an hour later it turned out to be the most jarring exchange with another grown man I've ever had in my life. There was an angry violent knock on the door, and when I went out to meet him he was standing by the meter. "Hey, how you doing?" I said. No response. "So what's up?" I tried again. "I don't know," he replied. "You can read the meter, right?" I asked. "Of course I can read the meter. What do you want?" he snapped back at me. "Does it say anything weird?" I asked. "How the f*ck should I know?" he growled back. By this point I was really confused. "Ok, well I have two outlets and a ceiling fan that don't work. Why do you think that is?" I asked. "I don't have the slightest idea man," he replied. I paused for a minute, then asked very calmly and politely, "Have I done something to offend you?" and he just stared at me. So I continued, "I mean, why are you talking to me like that?" "I don't know what the f*ck you want from me man," he replied. "Ok, get the f*ck out of here," I said. I don't have any problem with my electric service, nor its price. I've been impressed with the communication and quick restoration of service after a storm. HOWEVER, TEP contracted with people to dig a hole in my backyard in order to place a utility pole there. They made a huge mess and didn't clean it up. They left the dirt and rocks they dug up in piles and didn't replace any of it. I contacted TEP (twice) to see if someone was coming back to straighten it out, and they told me yes. But it's been weeks and no one has returned. I'm a senior and have to be careful about working out in the hot sun, but the problem clearly wasn't going to be resolved unless I did it myself. read more

Every single customer service agent I talked to was uninformed, rude, and not competent enough to know the difference between "west" and "east" when verifying the address where to send my refund check. As a result, I waited 2 months for my check before they realized they had mailed it to the wrong address!!! The last time I called in I had to wait 45 minutes to get a live person, who told me he didn't know where my check was & to call tomorrow. So rude!! TEP SUCKS!! I wish we could boycott the company, but they've got us in a stranglehold for electricity. I think we should start taking ourselves off grid by buy Tesla self-contained electric producers & sell the energy we don't use to TEP. It's actually pretty affordable, both in the beginning and pays for itself & then some in the future. We could find a way to break the initial cost each month to the same we were paying TEP, but once it's paid off ($3k or less now) we won't have a electric bill ever again. Maybe that will teach TEP to respect their customers more rather than act like they're doing us a favor & expecting us to bow down to them. I wish TEP could learn this sooner than later, but they think that since they have the power (no pun intended - lol), that we need them more than they need us, so it's ok to treat their customers like we don't matter. I signed up for the budget plan after being told that they took a 12-month average of monthly usage, and adjusted monthly payments based on that annual usage, with any over payment being credited back, and any overuse being taken from overpayment. LIES! I've never paid bills like I have paid the past four months, ever. Middle of winter and paying $380 a month for the past (4) months despite my actual bill being $184, and using gas to heat the house and water. They claim I'm "paying back" under payments. In essence I'm in "debt" because they under estimated my usage. This is no "budget" saving plan, it is a budget buster. I have one more month of $380 payment in the middle of winter and then they can stick their "budget" plan scam. I've NEVER had this kind of problem with utilities before. I will have paid almost $2000 in the past (4) months after I make next month's grossly inflated payment. The absolute highest bills I've had at my house since I bought it in 2017 is $340 for a month, in August 2019. Now I'm making $380 a month payment every month. They literally ran me into financial struggles instead of "budgeting" my payments. Pathetic. Their response is "well maybe the budget plan isn't for you." Well...it could have been if someone knew what they are doing there. To top it all off, my wife placed my bills in a drawer and I didn't see the TEP bill. TEP never verified and when I called into customer service They stated that they cannot refuse anyone from assuming financial responsibility. So be careful if you have an angry ex-husband or ex-wife they can simply just call into TEP and assume services and cancel YOUR ACCOUNT. They don't need your permission, which then will incur if you were in an average out bill cycle for the year for them to collect any available balance and prorate the month. I'm a single father who is now homeless with my child because of TEP. Last summer I lost power for over 44 hours over the weakest monsoon I've seen in the 17 years I've lived in vail. Catalina foothills was TEP'S main concern so I lost $500 worth of food and another hundred dollars worth of food 3 weeks later when my power was off for 25 hours. I got solar panels installed to help the environment. I already had autopay set up so I assumed when the panels went online, the credit would appear in my bank just like the payments disappeared. But no! They aren't set up to pay people for energy they produce so I have to call every month to request a check be mailed to me. I don't even live there! I have used TEP for the last two places I lived in in Tucson, the last one being an apartment. When I moved and had to transfer my account and information to the new location I called TEP to do so and they were so rude and not helpful at all with the process. Then when moving out of the last home, I submitted a request online to stop my account and end my billing. IT IMMEDIATELY KICKED ME OUT OF MY ACCOUNT AND WOULDN'T LET ME BACK IN! I tried multiple times to access this account again so that I could make sure my billing had ended but it told me my email was linked to no account and my account # was INCORRECT...? There is no choice if you live in Tucson you have to deal with these thieves and scam artists So my warning is to read the fine print. And don't forget what you read because they will lye in wait to steal from you. My story: I had a rental. When it would go vacant and the tenants closed their TEP account the electricity would switch automatically to my account by way of a Landlord Agreement. I sold the house and canceled my TEP account over the phone. So the account was canceled and I received what I thought was my final bill. But the fine print in the Landlord Agreement says I must cancel in writing. Why would I need to cancel the Landlord Agreement if I've canceled my account? Doesn't that seem redundant? So two years later the people I sold to move and cancel their account. My Landlord Agreement kicks in and I get a bill. Now get this. This is the coup de grâce. The bill says right at the top. THIS ACCOUNT IS CANCELED. So I call TEP but the robots continue to read from a script. There is no reasoning with these stupid bastards. So I warn you. TEP is not to be trusted. Read the fine print and don't believe anything they say. If they tell you your account is canceled you better send a certified letter. read more

We opted for pay online for our business and home gas and electric years ago.With absolutely no notification, TEP stopped sending up email notifications AND paper notifications when our bills we available. When we are out of town, there is no possible way of knowing what our bills due are unless we receive emails. Concerned, I went to sign into our account. Our account was locked for no apparent reason and with absolutely no notice. When were were FINALLY able to get a response, they had turned off our electricity in 110 degree heat killing all our plants, defrosting our freezer and fridge (we had to dump everything) and nearly killing our pets. On top of that, they CHARGED us $60+ to turn it back on. Our business account (same username) had a $400+ credit this entire time. After all they put us through, they refused to credit the $60.They could also never explain why they locked our account from access to pay our bills. read more

I was on Time of Use billing in my apartment, only using large appliances (cooking, laundry, etc) during off-peak hours, making our bill tolerable. When we moved and transferred service, they failed to inform us that the Time of Use billing would not transfer with us, nor did they ask if we wanted to keep it. Withholding this information has caused our bill to double, even though we thought we were still on Time of Use billing and were only using most power during off-peak hours. When I finally figured out what had happened, they refused to adjust our bill and reimburse us, and will not change us back to Time of Use billing until October 10. I wonder how many other people they have screwed this way. They intentionally are withholding information from the customer, making changes to accounts without customer authorization, and padding their pockets by doing so. What a rip-off. read more

What's sad about this review is that it won't affect your choice to use this business or not -- because you don't have a choice. Very disappointed in having a very large bill paid via the online system quickly and efficiently, or so I thought until my checking account balance was suddenly much lower than expected. Why was my checking account balance so low? Because TEP debited my account for double the amount owed and authorized to pay. When I called customer service (5 days later, on their first open day since I noticed) I was amazed at how hassle free the offer to refund the money was. To be honest I at least expected a bit of pushback - "oh no we can't do that, you must've submitted twice" or "oh we can't refund you just offer you future credit" - but no "let's get that refund process started for you! How refreshing! I'm glad I asked at the end of the conversation how long it would take until I saw the check (check = bummer but not a life ruiner for me), and she said "we have to hold the money for 10 business days from today, and then they'll start the refund process, it takes between 4-6 weeks" Way to keep it classy TEP. I'm sure that there are people out there who literally might not be able to eat or pay their rent if this happened to them, I'm fortunate I'm not in that situation, but I doubt you care about that, as long as you get paid, right? read more

I have had multiple horrible customer experiences with TEP. If you try to make a payment twice (mind you I had no idea the payments were not going through.) and it doesn't go through they put you on a cash only account. That means as punishment they wouldn't allow me to make payments over the phone or on my online account. I have to drive 15 mins away on the highway just to pay this bill. That's bull crap and when I tried to explain the situation, they said tough luck. I had to stay on that cash account status for a whole year. I wish I could switch to TRI-CO because I would. We opted to go Solar and TEP has done almost everything they can to build barricades instead of bridges. The worst employee is Blanka Anderson. We were sent a document with a time limit to E-sign by TEP and and it had a block on it. We could neither open nor sign. TEP would not assist Titan Solar nor me until my attorney got involved. The representative of Titan told me Blanka Anderson's name & how she dreaded dealing with Blanka because Blanka was so "Nasty" every interaction. TEP refused to mail the document and refused to email it. I requested I stop in their office and was told they had no office in Tucson by Titan Solar, per Blanka Anderson and also by their customer service rep, Doreen. When I demanded Blanka Anderson's supervisors name and address I received neither. Blanka took it upon herself to call my cell while I was on the other line with our attorney. Apparently Breach of Contract, Failure of Specific Performance and Intentional Misdirection with the Purpose to Defraud meant something to Blanka and suddenly she had an office and invited us to meet her at TEP's NONEXISTENT OFFICE. TEP cares about profit over customer service and it took the threat of litigation and notification of a supervisor to get Blanka Anderson to act in a professional proactive customer service manner. I will get her bosses name and address and she can learn the words, "Do You Want Fries With That?" After she gets what she deserves, FIRED for disrespecting the people who pay her salary. They don't have to try... Trust me, without deregulation, you will personally experience everything from incorrect power readings to poor customer service. 3 of 4 family members were gone for most of the month of July 2017. I raised the a/c temp, and was rarely home due to a heavy work schedule.. This company needs to fire their IT staff. The app is very difficult to use and their form of payment makes it impossible to change the billing address nor the payment form. They were sending our bill to an old PO Box, which is 45 minutes away from our home. I also tried to update the payment credit card... I have been trying to pay this bill since last week, but since they sent the bill to the wrong address, I did not have the account number. I cannot go any further with that. I have been calling since last week, and eventually got the bill from our old PO Box, which is no longer in use. After getting nowhere, I called their customer service line. I was given an automated option to have them call me back, and they did. However, every time I hit number one, indicating I was the one to get the call, it said that the entry was invalid and hung up on me twice. I have still not been able to talk to a single person. Any other company would lose all of their business, but they are the only electric company in Tucson. I guess we're stuck with a horrendous customer service team. read more

*So the timeline of events are as follows: *I paid my TEP bill in cash on 09/25/2016 at a location to avoid the money being withdrawn via autopay. *The payment I made posts on 09/27/2016. *09/28/2016-Autopay withdraws the money out of my account anyway, regardless of the payment I made. I call TEP and ask them to reverse the payment. They said a request is put in. *09/29/2016-I message TEP for a follow up since I saw no activity on my TEP account and no confirmation. Their response is: (Unfortunately, we were unable to process the refund back into your banking account and a refund check will be generated by the week of 10/10/2016.) Yet, no decency to alert me or contact me to give me the great information. I had to reach out. *09/29/2016- I message them again asking why no one contacted me to let me know and the whole reasoning behind making a payment using this method. I can't wait that long to have my money back in my account. Their response is: (All refunds are processed in an expedited manor. If you have any further question please contact Customer Care during regular business hours at the number provided below.) Notice the typo "Manor". It's Manner. SO I call them and speak to another representative to get more information on their lame protocol. The rep says that it is impossible to have it re-routed back into the account since it is drawn from my account via autopay and a check is ordered to be processed and sent out on the 3rd. *10/09/2016-I haven't received anything. I message them again and their response is: (Our records show the refund has been processed and set to be set out. Please allow ten business days from 10/3/2016 for your check to arrive, this would be 10/14/2016.) *10/14/2016- I message back "I haven't received the check yet. I'll give until tomorrow and I haven't received it yet I'd like a great explanation. Thanks" I get no responses back for the next 3 days til I decide to call myself. *10/17/2016- I call them and ask where my refund is? They think it is odd cause it shows it was sent out on and should of been in my mailbox by now. She reviews the notes and number of times I contacted them. Accounting is closed so she can't reach out to them and advises me to call the following morning. *10/18/2016-I talk to another representative, this one states that my check was processed on the 12th and will be sent out this week and I should receive it next week. I am just in WOW. All this time I should of just told them to credit my TEP account and live with the loss until my next bill is due which in the same week I receive my refund check from them. Total BS how they operate. No one has a clue as to what is going on. Your reps need to tell people like myself that it takes a month to get your money back, it is suggested you leave it as a credit in your TEP account to save time instead of getting passed around like a buck. This is truly the worst company I have ever experienced. We've had Tucson Electric Power for two (2) months now. This is the worst experience I've ever had with any company. They haven't sent me any bills and they've destroyed my online account. The only time I receive anything from them it's a paper bill telling me my account is delinquent and that they are going to shut off my power unless I pay them an impossibly high amount of money. This company is predatory. I called about the last time this happened and set up an online account so that it wouldn't happen again. I didn't receive anything again from this company until today when I opened my email and they had sent me a notice of delinquency (for the second time) demanding I pay them an amount of money that couldn't have possibly been accurate to our energy usage. I tried to log into my account to find that they had gotten rid of it so that I couldn't pay online. They are closed on the weekends so their customer service is unreachable even for an issue like this. I decided to call their emergency hotline because we are having a hazardous issue with one of our appliances anyway. After waiting on hold for a long time (again) the woman on their end laughed at me and said "good luck, glad we could be of service," they provided no service and she was being sarcastic and laughing at my problem. There are also frequent power outages that have nothing to do with the weather. In sum this company provides poor electric power, rude customer service and appears to be deceitful. I am updating this review after having TEP for a few more months since I wrote the review. The service has improved substantially. The charges have become much more reasonable. After a very stressful first couple months with this company we haven't had any more payment issues. I am very glad to report the improvement in our service. I considered upgrading my review to a two star rating, but thinking back to how difficult those first two months were I plan on keeping my review as is (at least for a while). read more
