After selecting cocktails, we got the hummus. The hummus dish is astonishing because this is where I get the most flavorful and rich tasting hummus ever in Oak Park with these delicious tortillas. Even though it's under the vegetable section, this would be something I'd order as a main. Secondly, we got the taquitos and the steak. The taquitos are so wonderful because they have the crisp outside of one you can find at a convenience store but the flavors of the sauce and filling show how exquisite it can be. This is the best Oak Park restaurant hands down and it's definitely one of my favorites in Chicago overall. I've been here three times and it seems to get better each time. They change their menus seasonally and we've tried spring, fall and winter. For a tapas place, the portions are large and great for sharing bc it's not just one bite per person. There's a great selection of vegetarian dishes and they're delicious and worth trying even if you aren't. Full flavored, creative and tastefully delivered dishes with a great cocktail menu and excellent service makes for a memorable dining experience. I found my favorite restaurant in Oak Park...the food is exceptional and distinguished. It's a definitive fuse of Mexican, American and Asian flavors perfectly paired of course. My favorite dish hands down is the whole fish, Barramundi right now. I haven't experienced restaurants typically bold enough to serve whole fish which is a shame but Amerikas nailed it. The atmosphere is dimly lit, inviting and spacious. The outdoor seating is limited but I'm sure worth the wait since the location is perfect for people watching. read more

Wonderful restaurant with outdoor seating in a lovely part of Oak Park down the street from the Unity Temple. We had three dishes for the two of us to share. The taquitos came stacked two by two with fresh cheese and watercress on the top. They sure made a splash as our first dish. The experience continued. They were delicious. Then we had the roasted cauliflower with carrots. Delicious! We finished with a bowl of mussels with a Thai broth and jalapeños. Fresh and cooked perfectly. Rustic bread was perfect to dip in the broth. We had cocktails with our meal l, which were fresh, colorful and tasty. A gin yuzu martini and a watermelon and vodka cocktail. Wow! I met a friend for brunch at Amerikas today, and we were both blown away by the incredible food. First, the coffee is super tasty! Then we got a free taste of the vegan, GF tortilla soup. Yum!! My friend got the breakfast burrito and said it was really good. I got the fritatta (with whole eggs instead of just egg whites). It came with what seemed like half an avocado, roasted potatoes, toast, and a small green salad. Every single part of it was delicious! I cleaned my plate. YUMMMMMM! This restaurant was amazing. I went for brunch last weekend on my own. I sat reading my paper and received excellent service despite the owner letting me know he had call offs that made him a little short staffed. I had this incredible omelet with Brussel sprouts and a few mimosas. I had a server that described how the house made hot sauce was made. "Every vegetable should be roasted before it is made into a sauce". I agree after my experience. I also had a mimosa made with Guava juice that was out of this world. The service was definitely a reason to return. My omelet was served on this beautiful wood board and was definitely filling. With consistently very good food across 12 dishes, this place earns five stars easily. Add genuinely warm attentive service and you want a sixth star. Drinks were good - mescal cocktail and margarita and pomegranate drew orders of seconds. For four people we asked the server to pick eight dishes, asked her to not include mussels or hummus. She pushed back on the hummus so we capitulated. We got hummus, steak, chicken, snapper, chile relleno, cauliflower, octopus, and the lamb. Not in that order. Server chose a bottle of wine. We had all three desserts and paired with tawny port. In hindsight, or if I was with smaller group, I'd drop the hummus, the steak. Depending on preference you could pick one of the chicken, lamb or snapper but they were all really good. I would not miss the octopus or the cauliflower. Caramelized banana dessert was best, I think. Very fortunate to have this place in near west burbs. read more

We stopped in here on a whim because it started raining during our evening walk. Little did I know how amazing this place truly is!! I have lived in Oak Park / River Forest for 20+ years and this is the absolute best restaurant I've ever been to in the area. The service: We were not well dressed at all. My partner and I were in running shorts and a little damp from the rain. The waiters could have easily dismissed us or treated us poorly, but instead they warmly welcomed us into the restaurant. Throughout the meal, they were incredibly attentive. Service was on par with our high end city favorites like Bavette's and Topolobampo. The food: I wish I had taken pictures of the food because it was all so gorgeously plated. The Chilli Relleno and Barbacoa were so superb and uniquely mastered. Highly recommend both dishes. I love that their menu is small and curated. I've seen long menus where only half the items are good, so I really appreciated how much thought went into every dish that I saw coming out of the kitchen. Definitely plan to come here with a heartier appetite next time because there is a lot I still want to try. This is truly one of the best restaurants in the Chicago area!!! read more

This was a great neighborhood spot with authentically friendly and attentive service. The owners and staff are all from Oaxaca and they pay special attention to each dish. I had the Chile relleno and the conejo (rabbit) dish. The rabbit was cooked perfectly and the surrounding couscous and chili oil complemented the flavors perfectly. They have a nice drink menu with clever mezcal-based cocktails, interesting wines and a small but high quality selection of liquors. They did not charge me for the wine in the end and the menu is eclectic enough that I would want to come back again easily. Highly recommend this place if you find yourself in Oak Park, which is also a supremely beautiful part of Chicago to visit in its own right. read more

When moving to Oak Park three months ago, one of our biggest concerns was lack of good restaurant options. That has not been the case - and Amerikas serves as a standout example that good food exists outside of the city. The space is wonderful, loud and lively. Kids aren't really welcome here - which is a nice change compared to seemingly all other oak park restaurants.the crowd is diverse and it's a good spot for couples and large groups too. The cocktail list is awesome and the prices are more than fair. The other pros is that of the 12 dishes on the menu, a full third are vegetarian and are just as good as the meat and seafood options. The hummus is a standout. Haven't had a bad dish, and looking forward to trying more as the menu changes by the season. Would not be out of place in Wicker Park or Logan Square. After several visits to Amerikas, I can genuinely say that the food and drinks here are the most elevated and creative in Oak Park. Every. Single. Thing. on the menu is delicious, fresh and beautiful. Some favorites are the Chile Relleno, Coliflor, Calabaza and Taquitos. The Veneras (scallops) are succulent with the backdrop of the chewy Black rice and Yuzu butter. My favorite dish, and what surprised me since chicken can often be plain, is the Pollo. It was the most succulent chicken with a delectable pan sauce atop potatoes and onions. The cocktails are stunning, from the Margarita Picante to the Passion Fruit Pineapple and other cocktails of the day. Don't go during a week day lunch. The menu is like 5-6 items only. No appetizers. Not even any chips or bread. Nothing on the table not even condiments, salt, pepper or napkins. The place was very minimal, but not sure we liked that. Waited for a long time for the 2 things we could order and when we got them, not impressed. The steak meal came out like a bowl of soup. The enchiladas just average but not much flavor or filling. Also, they are a Pepsi joint, no Coke. Small seating area that was nice and clean, but uninviting. We thought they were closed when walking by. Nothing much for decor or atmosphere. Wait staff was only one older gentleman. He wasn't very warm or friendly or gave a welcome greeting. Man of few words actually. Never came back to check on us but once. Never asked us anything or told us about the menu when we asked, "is this it?". Never offered advise or suggestions on food or drinks. Maybe it was just an off day for him. Prices are high for what you got. Atmosphere - the bar is seriously uncomfortable and there's no room to simply hang out. The table seating is so jammed that if there are people at the bar you have zero privacy. We first dined at Amerikas in mid-June, shortly after Illinois allowed restaurants to open for outdoor dining. We live downtown but after the BLM protests, we felt more comfortable dining outdoors in the suburbs. My husband, daughter and I had a first class dining experience at Amerikas. They offered a more limited menu but it checked all our boxes. I had the chicken breast, my husband had carne with chimichurri sauce, and my daughter had the barramundi. We shared the cauliflower as an appetizer. My daughter had the lemon margarita and said it was the best she'd ever had anywhere! We all thoroughly enjoyed the food. The service was professional but super friendly! We're now dining out closer to home but enjoyed Amerikas so much that we returned with friends and family 3 times! Love this place!! read more

Wow Amerikas you impressed me. I made a reservation for a Saturday night dinner and I am so glad I did. They were packed when we arrived granted this isn't the largest space either. Even though I had made a reservation we still had to wait at the bar for maybe 5-10 minutes before being seated. No big deal for me. The bartender was busy so we didn't even get to order before we were seated at our table which was a little disappointing but not the end of the world. Upon being seated we were given cups of homemade soup...I can't remember what it was called but it was creamy and delicious with a slight kick of pepper in it. Our server was very pleasant and let us know from the get go that if we ordered a cocktail we didn't like, he would gladly take it back and switch it for a different one. Luckily that wasn't the case and our cocktails were delicious. I had the Mandarin Caipirinha and it was light, refreshing, and sweet! Our server suggested 4 plates to share between 2 people. He said the dishes were larger than tapas but smaller than entrees. I beg to differ! Portions are quite large and I was full by the second dish and barely touched the last 2 dishes. 3 plates would have been plenty for 2 people unless you want to have leftovers (I'm not judging because I love nothing more than having leftovers...that means less to cook tomorrow!) We ordered the Pulpo, coliflor, pato, and asada. My favorites of the evening were definitely the pulpo and coliflor. * Pulpo - Octopus with fingerling potatoes and chorizo. WOW this dish was probably my favorite but then again I LOVE octopus. It was cooked to perfection with a nice char on the outside but tender inside. The chorizo gave it a nice kick and the potatoes a nice palatte cleanser. Highly recommend this dish. *Coliflor - Who knew I would like the cauliflower dish this much! It was cooked perfectly with carrots, farro, and manchego cheese. Normally I am a protein kind of gal but this dish I could eat on its own. It's that good. *Pato - By the time this dish came out I was so full I can barely remember it besides the braised duck being extremely tender and flavorful..just slightly too salty. *Asada - I literally had one bite of the steak along with some yucca fries since I couldn't breathe at this point. The steak was cooked medium rare which was perfect and had a good flavor from the chimichurri sauce. I was hoping the yucca frites were going to be a little thicker cut than they were but that's just my preference. Very tasty as well! I will definitely be back to try more dishes and cocktails. The only thing I would say is it is a little pricey but it's worth it for the great quality! read more

Reservations needed! Very small! We came in around 6pm Friday night. We knew the restaurant was new to town. We go past it on our commute every day. It never looks too busy, so we thought we would stop in to try to get a table. When we arrived we were initially told that without a reservation we would not get a table for anytime that night. We were then told that there would actually be one table available in 5 minutes. We stood in the entry way while we waited. After 10 minutes, we were told that there wouldn't be any tables available. We were given no apologies and left disappointed. I understand not having any availability on a Friday night, but I can't stand poor customer service. Their menu looks excellent, and I have been anxiously waiting to try Amerikas. Maybe we will make a reservation and stop back in the future. I will update then! This place has a smaller menu then what is online due to COVID. When the server asked if we would like something to drink - I asked for a Coke, but they didn't have ANY soda available. It's either I have a margarita, mojito or water. OK - But A Bummer. We had the Taquitos, Asada, Lomo, Barramundi and Pollo. The pollo was a little dry to me. Amerikas has been my overall favorite Oak Park restaurant over the past few years, mainly because of the nice pan-Latin menu and the earnest and cordial service. I tried carryout during the early days of the pandemic, but it was mediocre. This update reflects my first post-pandemic visit. (Actually, I tried it a couple of months ago on a Taco Tuesday, but the place was so loud and so crowded we left before being seated - lesson learned: avoid Tuesday.) On this visit, the food was almost as good as I remember: roast coliflor was still a knockout blend of flavors & textures, a huge barbacoa lamb shank was rich & succulent, and my companion said her tacos were delicious. Still a decent compact selection of wines by the glass. One difference is the lighting - the dining room is notably brighter than befors, which is a good thing in my book. Alas, it was quite noisy on this visit, even with the place half full. I'm glad to see it survived the pandemic, and I wish them success going forward. read more

WOW. Easily the best meal I have had in a year and one of the best new restaurants in Chicago. It really speaks to the quality of restaurant when one of their vegetarian small plates is the STAR. The cauliflower with almonds and farrow, was just inventive, umami goodness. The Matcha Sour.... YES! The scallops, salmon, hummus- I want it all! This place doesn't look like much when you drive by by but this is a hidden gem. The food is fantastic! We had the breakfast burrito (incredible flavor with thick bacon inside the wrap), steak and eggs (juicy thick steak with chimmichura sauce ) and the chilaquiles were amazing. What a great new restaurant! We went with friends without knowing much about it and were blown away by the tasty food and friendly service. It started with a free taster of their pea cream soup and ended with all three of their desserts. In between the table shared salmon, scallops, steak, hummus, and a poblano pepper appetizer.
