Came for dinner while in town. Super cute restaurant, great lighting, seating, and bar area. Our waiter was very friendly, giving us great recommendations and great to talk with. The meal started with complimentary chips and salsa. I ordered a mezcal margarita (fruta picanta) and my friend got a mango cocktail (mangasa). I liked mine a lot, my friend didn't care for the tajin rim on hers, and the waiter offered to replace it, but she stuck with it and liked it in the end. There were so many great sounding things on the menu, with gluten free and vegetarian options. We ended up splitting the calabaza- an acorn squash stuffed with mushroom risotto and also the wild mushroom tostada. The calabaza was great for winter, warm and filling. The tostada was lighter but really delicious, it was probably my favorite of the two. It was a great dinner, that I would definitely visit again if I'm back in town. read more

After attending the Candlelight Concert of the Beatles in Oak Park,we made reservations for this Latin American gem . On a Friday night it was busy! Thank goodness we had a reservation and were seated immediately. Our server Meyah was super friendly. We started with a few cocktails ..one being the Oaxacan Old Fashion..smokey and delicious. We tried their Market Ceviche which was on their Weekly Specials menu..Cured Mahi Mahi Brazilian Papaya,Tangerine Habanero sauce served with Sweet Potato chips.fresh and delicious. For our entrees we tried the Barbacoa Tacos and Blackened Fish(Tilapia) tacos. Both entrees were 21.00 for 3 tacos but no rice or beans on the side so a little pricey in my opinion. Street parking is a challenge but they do offer valet for 5.00. We visited Maya del Sol as a group of 10 and arrived around 4:30 PM, just in time to enjoy happy hour drink specials until 5:30 PM, which was a great bonus. Our waiter was friendly, welcoming, and attentive, especially considering the size of our group. The restaurant was well staffed, which made service smooth and efficient. Overall, the food was good and everyone else really enjoyed their meals. One person in our group did receive chicken that was pink in the middle, and we informed our waiter right away. Aside from that one issue, the rest of the table finished and enjoyed their food. The ambience was very nice--dim lighting, warm and inviting, perfect for a relaxed dinner. Despite being busy, the restaurant felt well organized and comfortable. Overall, we enjoyed the experience. Sunday Brunch Day! We went to brunch with my son today at this Latin restaurant in Oak Park. Maya Del Sol has a special brunch menu from 10-2pm. The restaurant is large as is the bar, and they have a great outdoor patio. The manager welcomed us and also checked on us when we were eating. Our server was Philip. Nice guy that provided friendly and good service. The bloody marys here are made with their spicy homemade mix and comes with a large shrimp, chorizo and olive skewer. They're so good! I had coffee, but my hubby had that special bloody mary and my son had a michelada. Both the guys had the steak skillet with eggs on top. The skillet was marinated skirt steak, poblanos, onion, pepper, potatoes, broccolini,and a frisee salad. They both agreed that the steak was tender and flavorful. I had the heuvos ranchero with overeasy eggs. My dish was black beans, cheese, avocado and pico de gall on a tostada. It was full of flavor and delish, too. I also had a side of bacon, three slices and crispy. Other than what I described, there's chilaquiles, egg burrito, French toast and pancakes. I'd love an egg dish, maybe an omelette without a tortilla or tortilla chips. The menu is missing that. I've been here more than a few times and do recommend this restaurant. read more

It was our first time there and we celebrated my moms birthday. I ordered the barbacoa tacos and the first bite took me back to Mexico. I've never had barbacoa THAT authentic until this place. I loved the tamales, they were sweet like cornbread and moist, i also had the elotes which were your average good elotes, not much of a notable flavor. I also had the nachos which were kind of sweet and tasted really good. Normally sweet and chips dont go together in my experience but this was delicious. Also had Angel as my server and he was really nice, we chatted on the tamales for a minute while my parents who i was eating with payed for the food, he also served us pretty timely and had good timing, didnt catch me with my mouth full once which is nice and my parents had the same experience in that. The surroundings were loud but thats just what a friday night is like and its nothing the restaurant can really do. Overall really good experience, good food which was overall on the sweet side and a good server who was really nice and had good timing even though it was very busy (came in and had to wait a tad kind of busy). The website stated that this restaurant opens at 3 PM on Saturdays, so my party and I arrived around 3:35 PM. Unfortunately, the doors were still locked when we got there. We could clearly see employees inside who noticed us trying to enter, but no one came out to acknowledge us or let us know what was going on. When we called, we were told they don't open until 4 PM--without any apology or explanation for the incorrect hours. I have been going to Maya since it opened 10-15 years ago. The restaurant is very good with a fun, lively ambience. They have maintained their quality over the years and you can't beat the patio. As with all restaurants, the prices have increased. We went yesterday for dinner (Sunday) and the entrees were similar to others in the area ($29-35 for most entrees). However, the drinks seem to have increased lately. My wife had the Cakuhla margarita which is now $14.95. I had a vodka martini that cost $16.95 and consisted of 2 shots! I've had them there before and it seems that the cost has gone up and the pour has decreased. $17 for a short pour martini is a lot-especially considering how difficult it is to get to the restaurant now with all the construction on OP Avenue! I'll go again, but watch what I order for drinks in the future. read more

I'm worried about the new location staying busy enough. We were in on a Saturday night in prime dinner time and it was like a ghost town! Some folks came in while we were there, but a place that used to be full with a wait seems to be dying down a lot. Food here is still excellent and portions are huge. Decided to go to their Mother's Day brunch buffet to get a little taste of everything and I was not disappointed! The buffet had SO many things to choose from but we loved the carne asada steak with chimichurri the most! Everything was very flavorful and the buffet was always stocked when we went up. We tried almost everything they offered and loved it all, except for the dessert options - the churros were the best but we weren't a fan of the cheesecake bites at all. The blackened Tacos looked very good but looks can be deceiving. They are beautifully presented but unfortunately the tacos were tasteless. People were actually shouting in the restaurant part of the location. Food was ok not as great as I remembered in the past. We had the cheeseburger with no mustard available. The chicken enchiladas were spiced too heavily with cinnamon and chipotle so that you could not even taste the chicken. Too much enchilada for the small amount of filling. I was in town for work and my feet friend and I decided to have a dinner date. I was staying out past O'Hare and she loves in the city so we met halfway. Maya del sol had a pretty appetizing menu so we chose to go there for an early dinner. I arrived at 530 in the midst of a storm and lucked up with a parking spot right in the front. Upon entry I saw my friend in a corner booth at the front of the restaurant. We started chatting away immediately. Our server came over and told us that Wednesday nights are 1/2 price margarita nights so both got skinny mezcal margaritas with no purée. The drinks were perfect not too strong and a tajin rimmed glass. For dinner we shared the Mayan salad and elotè. For entrees I got the molé chicken enchiladas and my friend got the barbcoa tacos. The salad came out already split and it was perfect a bit on the expensive side for the portions received but it was fresh and I liked the dressing. The enchiladas and elite were really good and my friend like her tacos. The ambiance of the restaurant was quiet, traffic started to pick up as we were leaving. Have been here a couple time- it is a cute place and has a nice patio from what I hear in the summer. The staff is very friendly but both times the waiters started very attentive and then went MIA. They do get very busy so maybe they are understaffed? The fire roasted shrimp is very good. I got the oaxacan old fashioned but it was too sweet for me. There complimentary chips and salsa is very good- good guacamole. The cookie dessert was really good but huge so definitely share it with many people. Our service was okay - nothing great. I feel she was new and timid. For example - I would have ordered another drink - had she come by to ask. But she never did. We then had to ask her twice for a spicy salsa...of which she brought us one that she said was very spicy. We thought it tasted like a sweet ketchup. For starters - we got the special ceviche - which was really good. The chef definitely has the ability to combine ingredients together. I got the Carne Asada and my husband got the Pork Chop. The squash was decent in taste. And the best of all out of the 4 dishes was the fire roasted shrimps. It had some decent flavored sauces and wild rice combination. On the positive side, the service was attentive and friendly, which somewhat made up for the culinary disappointment. They also offered valet parking service and got us blankets as it got chilly in the evening. Also decent drinks on the menu. In the end, Maya del Sol offers a nice place to spend an evening, but I wish the food could match the ambiance's level of excellence. read more

I was skeptical about coming here, but so glad I did! There are two seating options - indoors and an outdoor patio in the back. There are accommodations for small and large parties as well. I recommend you make a reservation, but if you end up walking in, I recommend you avoid busy lunch and dinner times. They welcome you with complimentary chips and salsa. Our server was extremely detailed and made sure to check in on us often. The mangaso cocktail was delicious, I can come here just for that again and again. The tinga sopes were absolutely delicious, I could easily eat two orders of those as my entree. The roasted chicken was juicy and flavorful. Can't say enough great things about this gem. Perfect spot on the way to UC for a concert to stop in and get dinner. The host (owner??) greeted us inside, asked where we want to sit - inside or patio and ALWAYS CHOOSE THE PATIO if you can. He asked if we were celebrating anything - just going to a concert. Super pleasant. The patio ...THE PATIO!! No wonder no one was dining inside. It's magical! A little oasis in Oak Park. Then our lovely server came by and was like, "so you guys are going to a concert?" Clearly the owner/host talked to her. What a nice surprise and great interaction. The food and drinks were delicious. We split the mushroom tostada and the acorn squash risotto and both amazing. Margaritas and Palomas arrived quickly and were a perfect combo to our meal. We ended up splitting a sweet and a savory (the best way to do brunch). The huevos rancheros was really good. I liked that instead of chips they gave a full tortilla. Then we also split the chocolate chip pancakes. Our server was really outgoing and engaging, and was quick to bring extra hot sauce and maple syrup when we asked. Ahhh Maya Del Sol did it again for me!!! My last review was 4 stars which really reflected a fulfilling experience, but I can't help but give them 5 stars now because it's quickly become one of my favorite spots near home to grab lunch or dinner. This time around I went celebrating my dads belated birthday, and they were so sweet to bring out a complimentary skillet cookie to celebrate with us. The service we had was truly amazing, he did an awesome job explaining each item on the menu, giving us his recs, and highlighting their specials for the week. I also love that they have a reward program (super helpful if you're a local to Oak Park area) and even have live music on selected dates. Every single food we ordered was flavorful, bright, and so tasty!!
