We stayed at campsites 18 and 19 and it was along the Baker River. They have free shower and toilet facilities, but only one shower and toilet per gender. They turn off their showers from 11pm to 7am so plan accordingly! There is also a water spout in the middle of the campground. WiFi is also available close to the check-in building. It's $10 per person, per night. Make sure to know your campsite number ahead of time. If you arrive late at night, they do not leave any notes or anything telling you where your campsite is. Also, ringing the bell does not help after hours. It's located near the side of the road so it can get annoying when cars drive past in the middle of the night. However, I don't mind staying here again. The folks here are nice. Campground is clean. It's also close to the Common Cafe and Tavern and the crags.

When you park there is a kiosk to pay that takes credit cards. At the start of the trail there is a bathroom that is just a big outhouse. It was a little rough so I recommend not using it if you get sick easy. The hike is short and easy to the water. When you get there it is a little tough climbing over rocks and tree roots. We spend time in the water. It was not deep anywhere we were so not really swimming just cooling off or sun tanning on the rocks.

I've always had a great experience camping here, and have gone each year for about 5 years. We don't care about the pool or wifi, don't care about what kinds of programming for families they may have, or any of the other things camp grounds are pushing these days. We want a somewhat private site, we want to be able to keep our fire going as late as we want (as long as it is under control), and we want to be able to keep our music playing at a reasonable level. We have never been told to put out our fire during quiet hours, or to turn off our music. We can stay up all night having a great time by the fire and playing cards without being broken up, but everyone plays by the same rules meaning it is not a wild place and we have never encountered other sites being too loud for our enjoyment. If you're looking for some old fashioned camping - even in an RV - where you can enjoy being outside with good company all night, this is a great spot. The staff has always been pleasant as well and the rates are comparable to nearby grounds.

Clearwater has a lake, but the lots are more jammed packed and not as spacious. Clearwater seems to be more family friendly with a playground, lake, etc. Meredith is more laid back and quiet. Meredith also has an indoor pool and hot tub which is nice. The staff at both places were very friendly and both have a nice store. We drove over to Clearwater to spend the day on the beach/lake. We rented kayaks which were very decently priced ($6 single, $12 double for 2 hrs.). The water was very clear and the beach was pretty large. The only downside to our camp site was a fence beside us. It made it feel a bit less woodsy. I also felt they could clean up around the store and grounds a bit. It looks a bit rundown. Same with the docks at Clearwater. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. We would stay here again!

It is very easy to get to and is right off the Kancamagus Highway. Full disclaimer: our stay was late June, right before Memorial Day so it we had the place to ourselves. We chose campsite #10, it had plenty of space for our vehicle and made it very easy for load in/out. I believe it was $22/night (bring cash or check for the honor system envelope drop by the entrance of the campground).The campsite is close to the river but not close enough to hear it. However, there was a little trail from our campsite to the water and it took only a minute to get there. If you want a campsite really close to the Swift River, you'll need to get a campsite #21-24. Our campsite had a picnic table and a large fire ring with a grill grate that will lower over the fire. There were even some large tree stumps left there for seating. We didn't have anyone camping around us, but I'd imagine each campsite has a good amount of privacy and space during peak season. Id recommend buying firewood before you arrive at Passaconoway. The year-round campground host sells firewood (which is very convenient) but you can get double your money's worth if you buy them from little wood stands on the side of the road. If you're passing through Lincoln (via 93 exit on Kancamagus) you will see some self serve wood piles by some gas stations.

Passaconnaway is a great (relatively) primitive campground right off the Kanc. It's got drinking…read morewater and outhouses, but no showers, sinks, or RV hookups. It has a couple of nicely secluded spots and tends to stay pretty quiet (in part because of the lack of amenities). There's a series of trailheads from the lot just across the street that acess some beautiful hikes, and since it's close to the center of the Kanc you're pretty close to whatever else you want to go see in that neck of the woods. Bring cash because it's an "iron ranger" system (currently $20 per night for one car) and the firewood there is $6 a bundle.

OK there are a few spots for groups and you could probably get an RV and trailer up there, but I have yet to see it. The campsites here all have the basics for tent camping: picnic table, fire pit/grill, peace and quiet. Most of the sites are spaced far apart so that you don't turn your head and make eye contact with a neighbor. Some of them are almost completely isolated, and a few have lean-tos (you're near the Appalachian Trail after all). The fire pits are kind of annoying though, they're basically three-sided iron boxes with sliding grates on top. You'll stay warm and can easily cook on them, but not everyone is going to have a great view of the fire. There is garbage on site, pit toilets, potable water, and lots of hiking nearby. In fact, the hiking is probably one of the biggest draws. You could get a spot here and then hike to one of the other campgrounds in the national forest (those are obviously hike-in only), or just spend a few hours in the forest. We saw lots of moose droppings, but no moose. Maybe your luck will be better than mine. The river is nearby and there are several parks and access points to get to it. I saw quite a few people fly fishing last time I was here. You've got to drive to Maine to get here, and then head about 5 miles along a dirt road to cross back into NH. Stock up in nearby Gorham and bring plenty of firewood. You'll want to stay at least two nights, and you'll definitely want to come back.

The girls were friendly at main office and kind of helpful. This is the point where it all went down hill, and the crap show started. Upon getting to our site within five minutes my niece steps on rusty barbed wire puncturing and scraping up her legs. Causing an appointment at the doctors office for a shot. Then after smelling something horrible for almost two hours we looked up to see dead lobster shells hung on branches above the camp. Amongst the shells trash was basically spread out threw the sites with no obvious attempt to pick anything up. DO NOT USE THE BATHROOMS. I was terriffied of catching hepatitis with this disgusting place. Not only was there poop all over the bathroom the showers were just as terrifying. I mentioned all these problems to the "manager", but that was a waist of time. He is just as incompetant as his house keeping staff. I mentioned all this to the house keeping manager as well she shuckled after saying I just cleaned them. Which she hadn't because I just walked from there. LIARS ALL OF THEM. Hopefully the owners see this, but I imagine after seeing other reviews like this they obviously dont care. Just a couple photos of some stuff as the other horrific things are enough to imagine.

With a 6 year old and 4 year old we were in and out of the beautiful river that is nice and shallow until you walk out 10 feet or so, great for kids who can't swim yet. And just riding around in a rented gold cart everything looked clean, can't wait to try the splash pad next time. So many other kids around they made friends and the adults got to relax. The ladies at the admission booth were friendly, welcoming, and helpful in directing us where to go. Be prepared for the walk of a lifetime! There are some steep hills and plenty of uphill and downhill sections, but the breathtaking views make every step worth it. The scenery is simply spectacular. A few tips for visitors: wear comfortable hiking or walking shoes, bring plenty of water, strollers are not recommended, a rain jacket isn't really necessary; you'll only encounter a little mist when passing by the large cascade, if you're traveling with toddlers, a good hiking backpack carrier is highly recommended, bring a handheld or neck fan because you'll definitely work up a sweat, don't forget sunscreen and bug spray. Take your time, enjoy the incredible natural beauty, and soak in the experience. This is a place I would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting the area!

Beautiful sites available right on the water. Other site away from the water area available too. 3. SUPER easy check-in. 4. Not a ton of rules/regulations like most campgrounds and there didn't need to be as everyone is very respectful there, like it should be! 5. Dogs allowed as long as they are on a leash at all times. Again, not a lot of red tape, paperwork and rules to bring your dog camping which is so nice! 6. Campground and facilities are well maintained and clean. 7. Great location with lots to do nearby. 8. Wood for campfires available for $4 a bundle. Cons 1. We picked a site #56 because it was on the water and close to one of the bathroom locations listed on their map. While they were certainly close, they were actually porta pottys, not actual bathrooms with running water. Not a huge deal ,but had we know this, we probably would've picked a site closer to one of the real bathrooms with running water. 2. No central location to wash dishes other than your campsite. 3. Some of the sites along the water are very narrow and close together. We could actually hear the couple in the site next to us talking every morning when they woke up and it was not because they were loud. 4. No campground store so if you forgot something, you're going to have to venture out in the surrounding area to find what you need. There is plenty nearby, but it's always nice if you can just get it from the campground store. Your best options are site 61 if you want a nice, large site on the water (not a lot of privacy) or site 65 for a nice, large site, but very private with only one site next to you and the other side is trees. If you like camping in an open field with other campers and don't mind the lack of privacy, they have that option too. Really something for everyone. One last note, showers are 50 cents for 6 minutes. Not a pro or con in my opinion, but certainly worth mentioning so you are prepared when you get there!
