If I could give this review minus 5 I would gladly do so. First of all, the driveway in and out is absolutely treacherous and you take your life in your hand everytime you attempt to exit, as it is almost a straight-up vertical climb with a busy highway at the top. 2nd, the bathrooms are atrocious and primitive, without even a screen door on the woman's room to keep out the bugs. They have bear alert signs all over, yet leave the trash piled outside (no bear-proof dumpsters, just on the ground) within feet of the campsites. We were told our site would be a lovely spot on the river - however it was impossible to even see the river due to the overgrowth. All of the campsites have sandpits, which means sand sand sand everywhere. NOT lovely. The "road" thru the campsite was filled with mudpits and serious ruts, sites were small and offered no privacy whatsoever, and last but FAR from least - be prepared to have your site SOLD OUT FROM UNDER YOU WHILE YOU ARE AWAY FOR THE DAY. When we arrived, we paid cash up front, for four nites. Management told us to DEFINITELY leave something at the site whenever we left to be sure "no one else took the site", meaning that they have no idea who is there or where they are located, altho they are fanatical about getting their money upfront. Well, we were there to attend a wedding on saturday nite of Labor Day weekend, arriving the Weds before and leaving Sunday morning. Which we made management aware of. So taking their "advice" when we left for the wedding, we left a camp chair, tablecloth and stool at our site. Arriving back a little after 1am after a long exhausting day, we were looking forward to nothing more than parking at our spot and going to bed. Imagine our surprise when we pulled and found SOMEONE PARKED IN OUR SPOT AND THE CAMPSITE OVER-FUL with arrivals from that day. This is a two-fold insult IMO. First of all, WHO parks in a site that already has someone else's furniture there?? Did they think we were just really nice people who donated them our stuff? Obviously they didn't care one way or the other as long as THEY had a site. Second of all - management had us on file for that site, and they go and sell it out from underneath us?? WTH?! With no other choice, and a few words to the tenants (who hid in their camper and refused to come out and speak to us) we gathered our things and returned to the office. It is now 1:30am and we are still exhausted. We rang the bell repeatedly until management finally answered and came to the window. He acted all surprised about our news but never once offered us an apology or an "oh gee, what a horrible mistake". Instead he offered us an incredibly lousy spot in the overflow area, NOT "let me move the people there now and give them the crappier spot", no, he tells US we can have that one. We insisted on our money back (really?? surprise from him?? seriously, what did he expect?" And despite the NO REFUNDS signs posted everywhere, he never once protested giving us our money back, telling us without so many words that he had deliberately sold our spot out from under us. With no where else to go, we were forced to spend the night in the Walmart parking lot where we were awoken at 5:30am by someone near us blasting rap music. So moral of the story - CAMPERS BEWARE. IF YOU GO TO MOUNTAIN PINES CAMPGROUNDS THERE IS AN EXTREMELY GOOD CHANCE THAT YOUR SITE WILL BE SOLD OUT FROM UNDER YOU, LEAVING YOU TO FIND ANOTHER SPOT TO CAMP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. read more
