This place seemed like a good place to.buy a car, but it turned out to be a very very shady dealership that I will NEVER buy another car from again. To start I bought my car last year. I bought it brand new. Upon purchasing the car, I was so happy. The next day I called to talk to the finance manager and was informed that the finance manager no longer worked there...? Hmm...ok. in any case my question got answered. When I came to pickup my car the next day I wanted to thank the sales representative...then I was informed the sales representative no longer worked there....ok...this is weird. On top of this I was told they were going to pull my credit with one bank, they knew I would get approved with since I had an 800+. After looking at my credit report l, they submitted it to 4 banks get not 1, so I had an extra three inquiries.....thanks alot. I had my car about a week, a brand new car, and then all these lights on my dash came on. I don't know what they did to the car prior to selling it to me, but I can tell you I had to pay roughly $500 out of pocket to fix it becuase a different dealer said there was all kinds of gouges, and scratches under the hood near some wiring that showed it was tampered with. When I went back to Amesbury, they denied everything. Got pretty defensive, and as a typical dealership pushed the blame upon me. In any case, I still have the car. Fast forward to now (tear and a half later)... I wanted to cancel my GAP as I just refinanced. So about a week ago, I called and talked with Sean who was a finance manager. He sent me all the paperwork. Once I got my payoff letter I sent everything back. I didn't hear from him so I called the dealership only to be told " Sorry Sean no longer works here". Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. This place is shady as can be. Disgusted. Was quoted a nice even $4000 for a gas tank replacement. Obviously did a little rounding. On line estimates were about $700 in part. $200 in labor. I suppose the other $3100 is for the mounting hardware. They quoted $815 for doing the wheel bearings, told them to go ahead with that, then they backed out on that, and charged me $180 for "diagnosing". Wish I could give zero stars. This was the worst buying experience i have ever experienced in my life. I purchased cars from sketchy second hand d dealers prior who gave me better customer service. I gave the finance department my tax I'd opposed to social, they used sales tactics i gave my social "just in case". They agreed not to run it without permission, they ran my social to multiple financial institutions causing my score to drop. I recently had a child, and was in process of getting approved for a mortgage. This was the worst experience ever, no car, hard inquiry, and they told me they will " reach out to police for harassment charges if i continued to beg and plead for help" . I advise everyone to stay away from this dealership. I have reached out to every member on their staff, i have emails to show. I even felt deafeated so i was going to still buy the car, they explained to me " they no longer want to conduct business with me " I wouldn't recommend this dealership to anyone. Between me and my family, we have bought about 6 cars here in the past and had good experiences, but the quality of their sales people seems to have gone way downhill. I was interested in trading in a car I previously bought from them (in excellent condition with very little miles given how long I've had the car) towards a new one. I'm 29, but I look much younger and the sales person (Kelcey) did not take me seriously at all. When I went in, Kelcey (who had met me before) asked my name again - that's fine. 5 minutes later he asked if my name was "Matt or Mike"....my name is Scott. He then proceeded to use all the shady sales tactics that people hate to deal with. Here are some tactics/phrases the sales guy used: 1. Started out with an extreme low-ball offer on my trade-in even though what I was looking for was directly in line with what KBB said the range should be. He pulled up the dealer-only KBB site (which - surprise - shows much different price ranges than the standard KBB site) and spouted off some BS about living near an ocean and salty air as the price difference (even though I'm about 20 minutes from the ocean, house my car in a garage, and never drive my car to the ocean). Stupid. 2. Moving around the value of my trade-in in an attempt to confuse me instead of setting the value of the trade in and then working on how much they could come down on the car I was looking at. After initially low-balling me, he then offered me $1,000 more than the range KBB stated...that makes no sense. 3. Telling me I'd be a fool to not take a price that he was offering me (even though it was still well outside the budget I had outlined to him). Don't ever call a customer a fool. Respect my budget and don't try to push me past it. 4. Telling me he was losing $2,400 on the car if he sold it to me at that price. No, you definitely weren't...you wouldn't sell me the car at that price if that was the case. I'm not an idiot, so don't treat me like one. 5. Got all pissy after I told him I'd think about it, but I didn't think it's a match because of the range of my budget that I had set out. He immediately stood up, told me to have a nice weekend, and walked away. Don't act like a baby when you don't make the sale. I actually might have taken the last deal he offered me, but I was so pissed off at his antics that I decided not to. Congrats, you just lost business due to your sales people....and not from a first-time customer. You lost business from someone who had a long-standing relationship with you....say goodbye to lots of future revenue. Pro-tip: don't underestimate people who look young or treat them differently. And don't use crappy sales tactics like trying to tell people they're idiots for not taking a deal. UPDATE: See that comment from Brian F asking me to call them because they value my business, etc? Well, it's BS. I called Amesbury Chevrolet almost 3 weeks ago (!) to talk about this terrible interaction. The people he asked me to reach out to were unavailable, so I left a long, detailed voicemail. I NEVER received a call back. Oh, and I sent Brian F a message on here telling him he could call me directly....no response. They do not care about even their most loyal customers...my family and I bought 6 cars from them...it doesn't get more loyal than that. Been to a lot of dealerships but this is the ALL-TIME WORST! Went in after seeing a vehicle they showed me. I asked what are the hidden fees? They said none you pay "exactly what's on the sticker plus paperwork fees". What are the sticker fees? ..."almost a thousand dollars". my daughter took her 2016 truck in for oil/filter change and rotate tires. well a week later i her father replaced the rear brakes... when i went to do fronts got lugs off but could not get wheel off as its frozen on....one has to ask if they just rotated the tires last week wouldnt you think they should come off?? i dont think they ever did rotate them as the wear is to much for a week of driving..... i believe they may have tried to but couldnt get them off but they charged for it...... i think they did the same thing before on a alighnment she paid for but never got as there were NO wrench marks on any frontend parts..... they just rebuilt the place and have to pay for it i guess..... stay away from this place as i think they rip people off especially women... read more

AWFUL EXPERIENCE !!!! Placed a deposit on a truck and when I went to get it I was told I would have to pay $2000 extra to pay cash. So I agreed to finance. And then they came back and said they were going to charge me $2000 extra to finance because they "couldn't trust I wouldn't pay it off early". TERRIBLE SERVICE!! Was originally told when I leased a car from here that customer service and loyalty was their number one priority. LIES! Told me I would never need an appointment for oil changes and I could just pull up to the garage beep and they'd open the doors and let me pull right in... Also lies!! Glad I called ahead because I tried to make an appointment last week and they said I did in fact need one, and they were booked through the next week so I had to come in on a weekend. Made an appointment for 11:30 on Saturday only one other customer in the waiting room... Car did not begin getting serviced until 12:30!!! An entire hour after my SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT! It is now almost 1 o'clock and my car is still not ready. Such a waste of my afternoon and very dissatisfied!! They try and get you with the first two "free" dealership oil changes. You can be the judge, but here is my experience. Located the truck I wanted online. I had emailed the Sales dept prior to my arrival and setup an appt. for the exact one I wanted to take a look at. Upon arrival I was pawned off to another sales person and all of my information was recorded (which took way too long, 20 minutes). I asked 3x to go and see the vehicle first. Finally we go out to take a look at the truck. Open the doors and was immediately hit with a unbearable cigarette smell. Keep in mind this had leather seats. I put that aside for the moment and we drove it up to the front of the showroom to grab some dealer plates to go for a test drive. When the sales person went inside to grab the plates. I did a full inspection on the truck. Opened the hood to find the oil cap sitting on top of the headlight assembly. Hmm weird. I shut off the engine and checked the oil. DRY, I mean there was nothing. This truck had zero oil in it and we were about to take it for a cruise. Of course this was after 5pm and none of the techs were still working. Would of blown the engine on the highway in minutes and they would of been left with a very expensive pile of metal. I said no thank you and I walked out the door, took my business elsewhere. The salesman Chris literally had no idea how to communicate. I asked about a certain truck and asked that with it being 3 almost 4 years old why is it still so pricey. His response was because it was a LTZ. Understandable but a brand new 2018-19 Silverado LTZ comes with more extensive features that there is no reason why a old model should be remotely close to a newer one. Especially with the fact that the truck would lose almost 20% of its value after being driven off the lot. I even expressed that i had a co signer and would be willing to work on a trade in. I was told 6 grand for my current truck. Even in the good condition it's in KBB valued my trade in anywhere from 9-12 grand. So this guy clearly didn't want to help nor deal with living up to what ever expectation this place has. read more

So far my experience with Amesbury Chevy has been great. The first time I went for service on my Tahoe they beat another dealers quote and happened to have a Malibu I could take while they performed the service. Often times they've been able to fix small issues I've had quickly with very little wait time. I appreciate the tech report they give back to keep on top of vehicle service as well. The sales department appraised my vehicle and had a pretty great deal on a demo vehicle that they let me check out in case I wanted to upgrade to a new Tahoe. Mine is only a couple years old so I wasn't ready, but there was no pressure and it was the best sales experience at a dealership I've had. I would definitely return when I'm ready to buy. They also had some good information on upgrades for 2016 models. They spent a lot of time and gave me a ton of information even though I was not interested in buying right then. The parts department seems to be extremely knowledgeable and helpful as well. They seem pretty good about having the right parts stocked and on top of hard to get parts. I like the preferred owner's rewards they do where you get money off of service or towards a new car every time you spend money there. It's an investment in customer loyalty which is nice. I was looking to buy a traverse and they had the color I wanted. Called and emailed with them and was told they would match a quote I received from another dealership. Drove 1 1/2 hours only to get there and be told they actually couldn't match the quote because they didn't buy into the Costco rebate program. I had already told them in email about the rebate I was offered at the other dealership and they said they could match it. Left the dealership only to realize when I got home that they had not given me my license back. Spoke to someone the next morning and they said they would overnight it to me. In short stay away from these guys. I've talked to friends who work at other chevy dealerships and they all say to a person these are the guys who give good dealerships a bad name. They contacted me the first time via a mail promotion that said I was pre-approved from capital one auto financial. I checked the amount and it was for 25000. Since I was just getting back to work, fighting a divorce and getting my credit back on track I figured the pre-approval would keep my credit recovery on track. I set up an appointment for a sunday afternoon in 2014 and drove from Merrimack NH to talk with them. I got there early to check their inventory. I am already an owner of a 2012 Cruze so I was walking the lot looking at equinoxes. I was approached by a salesman who I informed I was just looking and I'd seek him out when I was ready and he thanked me and left. A second salesman then approached me, I told him I was just looking but this guy decided to keep standing at my back so I went to my car. he went inside and I returned to looking where a 3rd saleman began following me and hiding behind cars and other objects. When I asked if he was following me he made up a lie that he was checking cars and actually argued with me that it was his job to follow me and try to give the best service he could. I entered the dealership and told them I was there for an appointment I no longer wanted to keep because I didn't appreciate the salesman's behavior when the sales manager called me out and wanted to fight me. I turned to leave and the manager called me into his office and told me they would treat me right. I spoke to a saleman and we were never able to agree on a price. I told him I had the pre-approval for 25000 but they refused to look at it and proceeded to run my credit (which I wanted avoided). I was called 3 days later with a price and deal that met my needs but again they ran my credit thus dropping my credit rating over 20 points when it didn't have to even run it the first time. I get a call 2 days after getting my car telling me they messed up the paperwork and I have to come back to the dealership (over 100 miles both ways while on a lease). They grudgingly pay for my gas and when I say grudgingly the person who brought me over to fill up my tank was definitely carrying an attitude with him, it isn't my fault you screwed up the first set of paperwork I signed when I got there. So we flash forward to April 2016. I'm called by the same guy who sold me the equinox on lease telling me they can get me out of the lease and into a new truck. I'm not quite sure but I take a chance. I check the price on my vehicle and it is worth 24,000 to the dealership when they sell it. I figure getting 15000 to 16000 is not unreasonable which would buy me out of the lease and allow a good down payment on the new truck. I already have refinanced with Capital One on my Cruze so I get pre-approved for a 35,000 loan. I enter the dealership and start looking around and I'm again stalked by a bevy of salesmen with another hiding behind cars and claiming he just happened to be heading to the autobody shop. I headed to my car and he turned around and went back inside. I drive away and get a call 5 minutes later to come back and we can get something done. Same story different day right. I come back after taking some time and not wanting a 100 mile trip (i am on a lease) to be wasted. I sit with the salesman trying to get him to look at my approved letter of credit which he again refuses to look at. They check my car and call GM for the payoff and inform me to get me into the truck I will have to pay double the monthly payment I'm currently paying because I will be upside down on my lease. I ask how that can be since edmunds says you can resell my truck for over 24,000 and I figured you'd offer 15 to 16K which gives you a big profit. He informs me they were only offering 9000 for a vehicle that was about 18 months old. Offer me enough to payoff the lease and they get a profit from the resale and again from the sale of a new truck. Then they ran my credit again when I had a PRE-APPROVED letter from Capital One thus dragging down my credit again. The salesman and the gentleman (internet sales manager) who called me informed me that you always wind up upside down if you try to get out of a lease before the 1/2 way mark. I told them the internet sales manager sold me the car originally why would you waste my time if you knew it was useless. He just stared at me and apologized. So I've been physically threatened, stalked on their lot, had my credit screwed with and had 100's of miles added to my lease because of this very unprofessional dealership. I really like Chevy's which before the Cruze I had Chevy conversion van and an impala which both treated me well. So my last 4 cars have been Chevys but I am seriously considering changing up by buying a hyundai SUV next due to my treatment when my lease reaches the 1/2 way mark in November. read more

Steer clear is all I can say about Amesbury Chevrolet! My husband and I went into the dealership after seeing an SUV in their lot that we were interested in. We were greeted by a very nice and kind salesman named John (who unfortunately no longer works there). We took the vehicle for a test drive and John was very helpful and courteous during the entire interaction with him. When it was time to "wheel and deal" about the price (it was a used vehicle), naturally John had to consult a manager and did so without hesitation. After several rounds of negotiating, the "manager" (who's name I can't recall, but looked like the comedian Ralphie May) came out and started bantering with my husband. When we explained where we were at price wise and where they were at and asked how we could come up with a solution, the "Ralphie May" manager accused us of being "arrogant" (his exact words). I honestly can tell you we were never disrespectful nor arrogant when dealing with anyone from the dealership. When I heard him accuse us of being arrogant, I confirmed with him that that was what he was implying and when he said "yes", I said "Well, we're done here" and we walked out. John followed us outside and apologize profusely for the behavior of the manager and we explained that we were extremely interested in the vehicle, but we needed the dealership to compromise on the price. Again, he apologized and we told him that it was not his fault and thanked him for his time. A few days later, another manager from the dealership called and spoke to my husband and apologized for the behavior of the "Ralphie May" manager and proceeded to come to a compromise on the price that worked for both of us. We were scheduled to pick up the vehicle on a Saturday (Labor Day) weekend and asked what we needed to do in order to be able to drive the car off the lot that day. We were assured that they would "take care of everything" and we wrongly believed them. The vehicle we were trading in had only liability insurance, not collision, etc. When we were all done signing all the paperwork I asked if they took care of the insurance with our broker and they said that they were just going to transfer the plates from the trade in to the new vehicle. I told them that the old vehicle (which was only worth $500) didn't have collision coverage, the manager nearly fell out of his chair. I got upset because after all of this back and forth and our initial experience with the other manager, I was beyond frustrated. I had asked several times prior to this day if we needed to do anything and we were told "no" , that the dealership would take care of it. So, when the manager called our salesman, John, and informed him of the situation, John was very good...he found a dealer plate with full coverage insurance attached to it that we were able to use until after Labor Day when they finally made the change to our insurance. In retrospect, we should've cut our losses after the first night of being disrespected, but the vehicle was one that we had been looking for for quite a while and we really wanted to make this work. The only redeeming quality of our experience was John the salesman. A few months later, he called my husband and again apologized for the entire experience and let my husband know that he no longer works there, he had taken a position at Mercedes in Haverhill. Long story short, I wouldn't advise using this dealership for sales. I cannot speak to the service component as we haven't been back since understandably. The lack of professionalism and communication/preparation was absolutely unacceptable. Hope this helps and perhaps they've made changes since (Sept 2015 was when we were there). Went in on Sat. To find a Volt and got an offer that I could not afford, fine. Get an e-mail on Mon. saying "great news" we need to meet quota and can make your deal. Go in meet with GM of sales, offers deal slightly higher but I take it, shake, sign paper told to come back tomorrow and pick up car. Get a voicemail that evening saying that a problem with rebate, but we are working on it, we will call you. Take off from work, no call. I call, still working on it. Finally get call from GM and told cannot do the deal. I ask how will they make it right, get call from sales and offer that is $4.00 less a month than original offer on Sat. Went in for the you can buy a chevy promotion, trying to rebuild my credit, they told me i could lease but not loan with my credit, no big deal, took my payment then came back and saId they hadnt gotten me an approval. How do you take a payment when i haven't been approved for anything?!? They then said thay they would call us when we got approved, and all but rushed us out the door. We called back a few hours later to inquire and where told we where approved but for more than our budget, but never said how much it would be, hmmm. So i called this morning and was told Eric Martin our sales man was busy and would call back as soon as possibele, showed up as it is on my way to where i was headed, and was told that not only would they not give me my CASH back, but that Eric wasn't there (so he's not busy, thanks for the lies ) and tjat they couldn't try getting me a loan anyway today because the banks are not open, so...why was i told they would work the numbers all weekend. DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM HERE! Don't even look at a car here. This place scammed us!! We bought a Jeep and it's a piece of junk. Since buying the car, it has spent more time in their repair shop than in our possession. They've also lied about repairs and parts used on the car. The car is still within the 90 day dealership warranty so they should be covering all the costs of repairs. However, we found out that they went behind our backs and are using up the extended warranty we purchased to cover the multiple repairs. read more

I was hounded by Steve Holder, a car salesman via telephone, and text message. Once in contact via text message I was degraded, and embarrassed by his sarcastic messages, and degrading words. "I would have a better chance winning the lottery, than getting money for my car." He was very rude, and forceful in trying to take money from me. BUYER BEWARE! Was interested in a specific car model and was told they had several to choose from and "to be honest" owner is very aggressive about moving inventory because they are under construction. Sue will say anything to get you onto the lot. When we got there Sue passed us to a colleague and we never saw her again. Colleague was apologetic when he said they did not have any of the model for sale that we came to see. Bait and switch tactic which I believe is illegal. No follow up calls from Sue. Extremely unethical, take your business elsewhere! read more

I spent the past weekend car shopping because I was interested in replacing my Chevy Cobalt. I decided to go to Amesbury Chevy because I was a current Chevy owner and I grew up right in Amesbury. I regretted the decision almost immediately. The salesman we dealt with, Dominick, was overly intense in his presentation and a bit abrasive. I immediately felt as though his only concern was his commission and not my satisfaction as his customer. We test drove a vehicle and I found his instructions while driving to be condescending (I thought we were over that whole "woman can't drive" thing). When we arrived at the dealership, I asked about the onboard trip computer feature on the car and, after 5 or more frustrating minutes, he finally admitted that he didn't know how to work it. I was at least curious enough about the car to be willing to sit down and "talk numbers" with Dominick but was immediately turned off when the first words out of his mouth were "Your car is worth nothing to us and we would rather you just keep it". Grant you, my trade was a 2005 Chevy Cobalt with roughly 147,000 miles on it, but I knew through extensive research that it was worth more than the insulting $100 they were offering me in trade (in fact I later got $1,000 for it in trade at another dealership). When I pointed this out to Dominick, he was immediately confrontational and condescending saying "Well, maybe it's worth something to you". At this point, I informed him that he had insulted me and, as a current Chevy owner, I had expected the courtesy one would expect when showing brand loyalty. I thanked him for his time and promptly went back to the Ford dealership down the street and purchased the vehicle I had test drove earlier that day. I had had some difficulty with the service department at Amesbury Chevy when bringing my Cobalt in for a recall once or twice, but since I didn't purchase it there and hadn't dealt with the sales team, I figured I would give them a chance. I would not recommend Amesbury Chevy to anyone who is looking to purchase or service a vehicle. It was, by far, one of the worst experiences I've had while shopping for a car. read more

To begin with, the Sales staff was great. Thanks Susan, Brian, Jason, and Dan. My wife and I were warmly welcomed and we were treated as if we were old friends or family. It was a great buying experience. We did have a little hiccup with the new truck after we drove it home. But I am actually glad that we did because this is where a company has a chance to show who they really are. I have to say, when the service department completed the work, it really showed me that I could have full confidence in this dealership. I went into the dealership on Monday 09/04 and a sales person by the name of Chris started to help me out. He helped us look at some trucks and we found one that we liked and were ready to move on. The salesperson said that we had to sign a purchase and Sales/order and also put a 1000.00 non-refundable deposit today to hold the truck and for the dealership to honor our offer. We said we would like to do a trade-in, and we said we would go and get the car and bring it to the dealership within 15 minutes and we could continue on with the deal. The salesrep then snatches the Purchase and Sales agreement off the desk forces it into his folder and tosses it into his bag. He then grabs the pen that was on table and throws it in his bag and looked at us with this angry face as if though we had done something wrong. He then starts to argue with us about how we should do the $1000.00 non refundable deposit and that we did not keep our side of the deal. We are purchasing a $20,000.00 truck, no human being is going to make radical decisions and just start signing papers and giving money away. He was also trying to make us fill out a credit application when we had already told him that we did not want to because we already had a pre-approval from our bank for $35,000.00 with a 2.49% APR. My fiance and I stood up and walked out with the intention of going back with our trade-in, as we walked out I decided to go talk to the sales manager because of how rude the sales representative was being. The sales representative then starts to argue with me in front of his manager out loud in the dealership with other customers around, the sales manager had to yell at him to stop. The sales manager ran out to me when I was about to drive off and said he apologized. However, we were mistreated for no reason, the sales rep had an easy deal laid in front of him and we were not asking for anything ridiculous, we even agreed to take the truck with the rear bumper all busted and mangled and dents above the rear passenger tire. I mean we are EASY customers, already came in with our financing and we were ready to go home with a truck. After that situation, we figured that we do not want to spend our money at that dealership, there is plenty of comparables to the truck we were getting and it was not like we were getting a sweet deal. If this is how we were treated before we gave our money, how are we suppose to be treated after we give our money. We were looking at the Red 2010 Chevrolet Silverado with 52K miles on it, I would love for management to reach out because this was appalling! read more

Very disappointed with our experience here. My husband and I purchased a car over a month ago and still have yet to receive it. We live just outside of Boston and when we made the hour drive to pick up our new car, they decided then to let us know that they don't have the title to the car so we couldn't leave with it even though we'd already completed the funds transfer. Thinking that it would take no more than a few days, they gave us a loaner vehicle and we were on our way. A few days past and we heard a few follow ups from the dealer saying that it would be coming shortly. Then, weeks went by without any updates so we began following up with our sales rep, Eric, and management. Our calls/messages/voicemails went unanswered, for days. Finally, over a month later they blew us off saying that we didn't have the title yet because the state registry had lost the original title. Regardless of the delay in title, their customer service was horrible and they continue to leave us in the dark. Every time we called, the sales managers "were busy" or our sales rep was out. We still don't have a straight answer of when we'll get the car. Overall a horrible experience that, unfortunately, we're still in the middle of. read more
