We sat in the parlor room and the chairs were all torn up- terrible! We wanted coffee and went to the front desk where the clerk was playing solitaire. When we asked if there was coffee or hot cocoa we were told to go to the bar and order it and it would be delivered to us- we were surprised that she didn't stand up and offer to take care of it for us. Customer service training should be a focus. There are a lot of places to stay and we should feel that we made the right choice in staying here and spending money here but we don't. Hopefully employee training as well as some repairs will be done so that customers can benefit.

When we checked in at 2 AM, exhausted from our cross-country trip, and a one hour drive, the receptionist sent us to the wrong wing, and when I went downstairs, he sent me back up, saying I just didn't see it. I had to go down and have him come upstairs to help us find our room only to discover it wasn't where he sent us at all. Next, there was no bottled water in the entire building, not to buy or what is customarily complementary in a hotel of this price range The very polite guy went onto explain that it was because they hadn't received their shipment of water. I'm confused because I sure did pass Walmart, Target a grocery store and a Trader Joe's just minutes from here. But alas no one thought to go get water. Their parking lot is a four minute walk from the hotel. You may hit the jackpot and get one of the 45 spots right in front of the hotel. We didn't. Boo!! Also, they are saving money by not cleaning the rooms daily. I think that's BS but it would've at least been nice for them to tell us a check in. I found a gray hair on the comforter which was not ours. Gross!!! They do have a fancy, highfaluting Molecule air filter that I did not steal. I don't love this place and I wouldn't recommend it for any other reason then if you were spending multiple days on campus. If I come again, I will request daily service and also request to be in the west wing.

No more mini bottles of shampoo, however - just large containers of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash mounted on the tub/shower wall. The hotel has a bistro so you can hibernate if you wish and order breakfast and dinner, though there are plenty of dining options nearby. Staff was pleasant and competent.

I am UMass alumni and was feeling nostalgic so when I started looking for rooms and came across the hotel (which I had forgotten was even there) I got excited about the prospect of being on the campus again. The good: it really is a decent hotel. Nice and modern and updated and comfortable. They have water bottles in the room that can be used to get spring water downstairs for the duration of your stay. I thought that this was a very nice touch since when I need a drink at night I usually end up using a plastic cup to get water out of the tap. They also have a limited continental breakfast that does the job for some. Would have been fine for me but left something to be desired for my kids. The gentleman checking us in at the front desk was friendly and helpful. We were only staying for one night during Thanksgiving so the campus was pretty much deserted but I would definitely come back and stay for longer. The location in the center of campus in the student center with access to tons of food options and amenities is awesome. Perfect spot from which to access and explore the entire campus. The not so good: Hardly anything. You only get one parking space in the garage. Not usually an issue but because my mother was staying with us she had to pay the $20 parking fee. Not a huge deal but I like open access to parking. The bathroom was so teeny you can barely even turn around in there! It does have a nice large stand-up shower which again was fine for me but my 8-year-old son lamented that he couldn't take a bath which he really wanted to do. I would definitely recommend staying here if your main focus is seeing the campus. You cannot beat the location and it's a pretty decent place. My room was basic, but clean and very comfortable. The shower was warm and the pressure was good. The heat/AC worked well and was a bit nosy but not at all like other places I have stayed. My room's location was almost a guarantee to be loud. Right across from the ice machine and the first room from the pool. However, with the exception of one little girl who didn't want to leave the pool and had a lovely set of lungs, there was no noise. It was a peaceful night's sleep. The free breakfast in the morning was a huge disappointment. Coffee was there, cereal, oatmeal packets, and some pastry that I noticed was there the night before. I grabbed an apple and was grateful for the muffins back at UMass. My next trip to Amherst I will definitely check here first.
