The advertised checkout time is noon. We booked the room because we needed the morning to prepare for the memorial service we were in town for, including finishing up our remarks at the service.. Room service started knocking on our door at 10. We explained checkout was noon. They were back at 10:20 and again at 10:45. We gave up and left. I was told the manager, Jeremy Brown, was not in that morning. I called him the next day. He agreed to refund half the charge, or $90, but said I had to arrange it with Booking.com. I asked for a credit on booking.com. They refused to provide it bc they said manager Jeremy Brown did not return several phone calls confirming he agreed to the refund, and added that booking.com has a no-refund policy. so the service is lousy/disruptive and the manager is not responsive to complaints. read more

And when I read the reviews about the Howard Johnson after it was too late and I had already booked it through Priceline, I figured people were being a little dramatic. Not so... There really are blood stains on the carpet, the smell of smoke in the non-smoking room is actually making me dizzy as I sit here on the bed right now trying to decide exactly what to do. This hotel looks okay from the outside but soon as I stepped food inside I was quite wrong. I was first supposed to get a king size bed which I got a queen. Secondly, there is a strong odor of bleach throughout the entire room. There are holes all over and rips in the curtains, not to mention the bathroom. The pillow and sheets made my face and body so irritated because they were so rough and smelt like bleach too. DO NOT STAY HERE. Honestly feel like bad stuff could go down here. read more

First things first this hotel needs to be completely gutted and redone second It was absolutely sickening how the rooms were not at all clean we entered the hotel to a not nice reseptionist who had such a nasty attitude that it was like we were an inconvenience to her we checked in brought our stuff to the room and then left for the afternoon to spend time with family when we returned to the hotel that evening is when things took a turn so we went in to our room and I just didn't feel right I walked into the bathroom and turned on the light there were pee stains on the floor in room 304 the bathtub was stained blue and it just smelled like mold and mildew the whole hotel kinda just smelled like that the ceasing tiles looked brown and buldge with water stains the walls were peeling it was honestly diplorable I do also want to state I am traveling with my service dog and this comes into play because my service dog normally has no problem adjusting to new environments as that is the nature of an actual service dog so I then went down to the front desk to let them know that the room was not properly cleaned and that my son was starting to have an allergic reaction to something in the room because he is allergic to dust mites and he has asthma and she said oh well I asked about the possibility of changing rooms and her exact words to me were well I can't guarantee the next room will be clean either (wtf) are you kidding me especially in times of covid so we took a chance and moved our stuff to room 103 and it was even worse my son started having a hard time breathing my service dog was absolutely panicked she was whining so bad tail tucked that as I opened the sliding door to the patio I was dragged out the door my dog does not pull on the leash because of her training but she pulled me 300 yards away from the room something is seriously wrong at this hotel as my eyes were burning from being in the room my husband started to feel nauseous from the room my son was also having a allergic reaction to the room we had to leave again we went to the lobby to politely let the lady know that we would not be staying due to the hotel causing my son to have an allergic reaction due to the rooms not being clean the girl at the front desk again acted as if we were inconvenienceing her never once was I rude to her as I always am respectful to thoes in customer service well I asked to be refunded for the room because we would not be staying due to health concerns to witch she did begrudgingly I honestly think the management needs to take a good hard look at the cleaning crew and health and safety definitely was lackin also in both rooms the clocks were not even plugged in and it just needs to be taken care of the property is in desperate need of repair not just a fresh coat of paint We left the hotel and as soon as we were off hotel property my service dog instantly relaxed and was back to her old self also my sons alerigic reaction stopped my husband instantly felt better and my eyes stopped burning so honestly there is something that was affecting my whole family if I could give it 0 star I would I will be calling the health department on Monday morning read more

Made an account just for this review: Dear Wyndham, First, Jeffrey probably has the hardest job in America, give that guy a raise. I saw only 2 staff members the entire stay and he was actually really nice. PLEASE invest more money in this hotel. I have pretty low standards but this should legit be illegal and considered a health concern. I would say knock the building down but it would probably release mold spores into the atmosphere and create a biohazard for the general public. The smell in the room was literally insane. I had to get blackout drunk to sleep here but was tempted to sleep in my car instead. My wife said some sort of amphibian died in the bathtub and I'm inclined to believe her as she is a veterinarian and I threw up in my mouth when I took a whiff. Easily the WORST hotel I've ever stayed in. Terrible accommodations. And the housekeeping staff stole my groceries. I'm a very fair person and this was no accident. They even left door open. This is a disgusting, run down, cheap, and dirty shack. not hotel. The corporate office needs to come and check this place out - before knocking it down with a wrecking ball. I knew it would be a sacrifice for quality because this is a place next to Umass and lets face it, its a HoJos...but just a lack of care and the sliding glass doors are all old, rusty and have sharp edges that my friend cut her finger on. We weren't in the room very long because we went to a show at the Mullins center but I felt like i needed to leave my socks and glove on every time we walked back in the door of our room on the 1st floor. The bathroom was deplorable - the toilet was green and brown with 40 year old scuff marks throughout the inside. Enough to make you gag. There are burn marks and tears in the vinyl counter tops inside and out of the bathroom to display clear evidence of a crackhead being there!! UGH! Not even work 40 bucks but we paid well over double that The staff is also comprised of college students that will gladly ignore you for 15 mins and eat dinner in their sad little lobby kitchen with their boyfriends. . NEVER again. I still believe we brought home bed bugs from that place. Don't bother with HoJos... pass this place by or simply sleep in your car to make sure you don't bring home any diseases. read more

The room was not ready when we arrived at 4:30. When it was ready, it smelled strongly of bleach -- which covered up the musty, old-socks smell that emerged later in the evening. The handle on the sliding door to the cement patio (which had no chairs, just a dead cockroach) was broken. There was a bottle of some unidentifiable alcoholic beverage in the freezer section of the room fridge. Bathtub surface was peeling. All around, pretty gross. read more

Stayed here Friday night while visiting family. Hotel clerk was very nice. Had a king size bed that needs to be replaced. The room was big with a fridge and the heat worked well. My only huge problem was in the morning I had to take a cold shower. The water would not get hot. That stunk. Idk if I would stay here again. Too bad because the room was decent. read more

We had a fantastic reception here and the room did not disappoint. Having never stayed there before I was very pleased with the room - it was massive and very clean and tidy. This was one of the worst hotel stays I have ever had. Our room was on the 1st floor and the hallway smelled of stale air, and dirty carpet. The bathroom had mold on the ceiling, and a dirty washcloth was hanging on the shower curtain rod. The shower curtain was ripped and the floor was dirty, especially around the toilet. The furniture was old and the carpet should be replaced. The hotel staff were very unfriendly. And they did not honor my AAA discount like they state online because they said the hotel was full. I arrived and was told the elevator is out of service so we walk ed up 3 flights with luggage in a musty stairwell. The room 512 had a "leather" desk chair that was badly damaged and flaking pieces of black pleather. The room phone to cal the front desk was broken. But the worst part was the free "breakfast" where my son ate a yogurt that I later noticed was expired by 10 days. I told the person at the front desk and she said, "Just throw it away," although I did see someone later remove all the expired yogurt from the refrigerator. I don't think the rude person at the front desk was actually a front desk employee because she was dressed in a hoodie and casual clothes and was so rude. I stayed here during a freak snowstorm where they lost all power. I didn't stay the 2nd night but was told that whenever I called back to mention it and I would be comped a room. I called - gave them the dates and confirmation numbers and was stone-walled. They said that they would never say or do anything like that. I asked them to check the dates and the weather HEADLINES to verify - still - NOTHING!!! So I'm writing this to say Thanks! Thanks for nothing. The least you could have done was to offer me - anything. I felt like a beggar with an empty cup. This is your reward for the outstanding NOT customer service. This place sits in a prime location and could be a nice place. It has been there since before I was in high school and has always held the same standards, a rundown, shabby old hotel that needs a serious upgrade and renovations. The place looks nasty from the outside and it used to have a Howard Johnsons restaurant attached to it, but that is no longer. It is surrounded by brand new hotels in fact one across the street is a Holiday Inn Express and outshines this place. The spot is a haven for local college students from the 5 colleges to frequent and party and do who knows what. Don't let the cheap prices fool you, this place is not even worth that price. The rooms are rundown, the linens are old and the bathrooms are falling apart. Even the hallways and the lobby are beat up. Skip this place and pick one of the 20 other hotels in the area that are a bit more expensive but worth it. read more

One of the worst places I've been in a while. They were over booked, canceled and reaffirmed my reservation. But failed to give me the room I reserved instead making me have to get a roll away! On top of this I checked in and went to dinner. When I returned they had given my room to another party!!! AND they let that party remove my items form the room some had to wait for them to get me another room! Why not do this the the other people!? I'd probably give it 2 1/2 stars... I got a room for $50 on Travelocity and pretty much got what I paid for. The hotel isn't palatial but it's certainly not a dump, either. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The wireless internet was working way too slowly and the TV was old (I know--you get what you pay for). The breakfast was mediocre--the only piece of fruit was an apple that was spoiled on one side. And the woman who checked me in wasn't all that friendly (the woman who checked me out was nicer). We are early risers and usually out the door by 5:30 AM. So can't tell you about the breakfast because we never got to try it. Start at 6. Pros: We dealt with courteous, competent staff. Even got a phone call from the desk after about an hour to check on how the room was. The room was clean with comfy beds; there were four pillows on each double bed. They have a small workout room with stair stepper, treadmill and Exercycle; maybe more. Wi-Fi works fine. Cons: Terrible coffee pot--bring your own if you have the remotest familiarity with real coffee. The pool closes the day after labor day. What's up with that? Still summer time. This is the bottom of the barrel, crack den hotel. If you like mold on your bathroom ceiling then this is the place for you. Room was poolside but no water in the pool, beautiful sliding glass door opens up to the dog waste from the last occupant. Room smells like NYC on a humid summer night! It's been a while since I stayed in a hotel and after staying at the Howard Johnson express inn, I can't wait to stay again. The pool is so clear and the service people are really nice. My girlfriend and I stayed on the fourth floor and we're not disappointed. The front desk workers are polite and convenient and the house keeping are very nice too.
