The hotel itself is clean and airy, with a spacious lobby and sitting areas. The room is comfortable and adequately appointed with a relatively roomy bathroom. No more mini bottles of shampoo, however - just large containers of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash mounted on the tub/shower wall. The hotel has a bistro so you can hibernate if you wish and order breakfast and dinner, though there are plenty of dining options nearby. Staff was pleasant and competent.

Bathroom is sparkling clean, nice size and well appointed with little bar of soap, wall shampoo/conditioner and hairdryer. Bright lighting, fan & full mirror. Indoor pool, hot tub. Very large outdoor sitting area w some lou he chairs and a few round tables w umbrellas. I saw families ordering in pizza and the kids could run around on the little fenced in lawn touching the patio. Very nice lobby seating area with a fireplace not on this time of year and lemon water. Each floor with an ice machine. Funny, all the vending machines were empty. We did use the laundry room, had 2 of each washer/dryer that were very efficient.. 2 dollars for wash, 3 dryer and 1 dollar for detergent via machine on wall. They even had a good sized indoor pool for grown up and kids to play in. Everyday free breakfast, you can tell the cook take pride on how they cook the food and present it. The best part, the staff. I had to call several times to get maintenance and they couldn't get it to work again but did they come back and tell me that? no, I had to call front desk again and maintenance had already left. I had to REQUEST fans as no one offered it to me. I did have the option of packing everything up and moving to the main hotel but that was not an option I wanted. The safe didn't work on arrival - DOA - they came and changed the batteries. Couldn't get the iron to work. Room service? one time my used tray that housekeeping took out sat in the outside hallway for 2 days straight - way to attract vermin! Went to the Restaurant for breakfast on morning of Day 2 and there was NO ONE at host station nor bar nor front desk - I finally found the one person serving as hostess/order taker/waitress coming out of the kitchen area with food and she indicated she was the only one there that morning. Again, woefully understaffed. One manager did call me on Saturday morning to apologize for the A/C issue but did anyone ever come back to my suite to fix it before I left Tuesday morning? Nope. I don't know who is running this hotel but they are doing a very poor job. Live by my credo: It is not what you EXPECT that counts but rather what you INSPECT!

The upstairs suite doesn't have any kind of a kitchen, though there's a mini-fridge and I believe a microwave, so dishes are bussed out as you use them; don't plan on doing any food prep on your own. The hostess brought breakfast to the room (there's not a common dining room like most B&Bs) and pointed out the local ingredients including eggs from her chickens and vegetables from the garden. This is a real working mini-farm and it's fun to stroll the grounds and see what is going on. And it's VERY close to the northeast corner of the campus; we were able to leave our car and walk to his dorm (Van Meter) in about 20 minutes. Like the website says, the grounds are very rich in animals and there's an extremely friendly cat who wouldn't stay out of our room in spite of the management's desire to keep the premises pet-free. Keep this in mind if you have allergies.

My room was basic, but clean and very comfortable. The shower was warm and the pressure was good. The heat/AC worked well and was a bit nosy but not at all like other places I have stayed. My room's location was almost a guarantee to be loud. Right across from the ice machine and the first room from the pool. However, with the exception of one little girl who didn't want to leave the pool and had a lovely set of lungs, there was no noise. It was a peaceful night's sleep. The free breakfast in the morning was a huge disappointment. Coffee was there, cereal, oatmeal packets, and some pastry that I noticed was there the night before. I grabbed an apple and was grateful for the muffins back at UMass. My next trip to Amherst I will definitely check here first.

Sausages are made at a local store along with their thick slices of bacon. Sheets and linen are freshly washed and smell divine. Overall, cannot rave about this place enough.
