Just tried Amici in Pickering... overall I have to say the food is very good, and so is the service. We had a great meal starting with garlic bread, nice salads and excellent pasta dishes. My only complaint with Amici is the atmosphere. I like restaurants that have a cozy, darker atmosphere, that provides more private seating. This place is too bright, ceilings are too high, place is too loud, no privacy at all. Felt like I was eating in a cafeteria. That's just not my thing. This is my first time going to this place. The service was exceptional, and the servers were knowledgeable in the food. The place is very loud. When busy. You have to speak slightly louder than normal volume to be heard at times. I guess that's the trade off for dining in a place that's so popular and busy. The food itself was really nice. Everything was cooked to perfection. I just wish that the portion for ravioli was slightly larger because I found I was still hungry after dinner. My family went to this restaurant in Pickering to celebrate my nephew graduation. Restaurant was big and roomy and had plently of parking available. We ordered, bruschetta and grilled & fried calamari to share. The bruschetta was good, pretty straightforward. I liked the friend calamari better than the grilled as the pieces seemed were bigger. For the main, I ordered the butternut squash ravioli in a mushroom cream sauce. I did find it on the heavy side. I may have missed the description on the menu, however it was also accompanied with grilled chicken slices, which I thought was unusual and felt it didn't go with the dish. Usually people order this as a vegetarian option, so I thought it was odd. It was tasty though. We meet close friends for dinner in the area monthly and decided to abandon our previous go to restaurant in favor of something different with a better menu and we certainly were delighted with our decision. I've visited Amici's 3 times in the last month and at first I enjoyed it, but I'm kind of over it now. The food is just meh, I found it under seasoned and needed a lot of salt. The service is friendly. I find it overall quite noisy and squished in there, so people walking by are always brushing your shoulder which is quite uncomfortable. I really think hard before I give a restaurant a five star. But if anybody is deserving of it in my mind it's Amici. We stopped here on the way home, and we were so glad we did. The food here is outstanding, the service friendly. It's very busy restaurant and you can certainly tell why patrons keep coming back. They have a dining room, bar area and covered patio. I had the lobster ravioli (to die for)! Hubby had the grilled calamari and seafood pasta. All the meals were excellent. We started with an Aperol spritz, and sadly had no room for dessert. Fabulous food! The bruschetta was very good. It was soft but still had a warm crunch to the outside, good ratio of tomatoes to parmesan and was just garlicky enough. The arancini balls were fine but lacked a bit of flavour and had very little cheese in it. The cheese to rice ratio was off. For mains, I had the fettuccine pistachio and it was very good. Very rich sauce but not too intense. Noodles were cooked to a perfect al denté. The service was good, our waitress was very nice and very attentive. My biggest problem with this place is the seating. You enter the restaurant and it looks very nice, fancy and slightly higher end but then you go into the dining room and it loses all of its appeal. Wooden tables slotted so close to each other, it feels more like you're at a mall food court instead of a fine dining Italian restaurant. I've definitely seen this place driving by on the highway. It was high time that I tried it. Whenever Valentine's Day rolls around, I'm thinking Italian. It's a cold time of year and I want to feel the love which I generally feel in the form of carbs. We were able to call ahead and place an order and were told that our 2 mains and 2 apps would take 20 minutes. When we got to the restaurant, they had a Covid info and prep station before the second set of doors to the inside of the restaurant. They had Covid precautions printed out on flyers for customers to take. They also had a ledger for contact tracing, hand sanitizer nearby, and signs to use the handicap button for the doors to minimize contact. All of the food was in Styrofoam containers which isn't my favourite but oh well. A happy bonus we found in our order was table bread which was still warm. The warmth from it had melted the little butter containers so I was able to drizzle that onto each piece. So good! As we really got into the meal, we moved on to the Arancini. The parts that were submerged in the sauce were soft but the rest of it was still crispy. The sauce is supposed to be spicy but at first I thought it was just marinara until the last bite where I found the kick. Not too spicy to handle. We also shared the Cozze Marinara. Now this is rare but each mussel was accounted for! We didn't get any empty shells. The sauce was tasty and enjoyed with the bread dipped into it. For the mains, we had the Ravioli Di Manzo (ravioli stuffed with braised beef short rib) and the Fettuccine Pistachio. I loved the sauce for the ravioli and it had a mix of different mushrooms and spinach - two of the best vegetables in my opinion. The second dish featured a pistachio cream sauce. It had the slightest hint of sweetness and was really nice. I added the side Parmesan they had to this dish to get some more salty into it. This spot would be great for a date night. They have a really lovely wine and cured meat display in the front and the rest of the interior and lighting is really warm and inviting. A very tasty option for Italian food in Pickering! read more

Highly recommend this place. Met my best friend for an early Christmas dinner. We usually eat at a table at the bar. Great service, phenomenal Manhattans, delicious meal. This was our first time here. Pleasantly surprised everything we ordered tasted good. The waitress (and waiter I first encountered) were amazing. Great service. We would definitely come back again to try other items. BUT I have to note the owner was very curt and almost (not quite) but rude. He treated other customers different than our table. He had to give us a makeshift table because that nite it was busy and everyone had reservations. But he was talking and greeting all customers. I can tell you we did not receive any of that courtesy from the get go. The food was good and thank god for great service. Next time I will make reservations to see how we are treated again. My best friend from LA was craving for some italian food. She picked this place on Pickering which is off of the 401 near Pickering town center. This place on a Saturday is definitely bumping, so if you want a table make sure you make a reservation. We were a group of three so we didn't have to wait (less than 5 minutes). We ordered calamari for apps to share - super delicious and decently portioned. For our mains, my friend and I ordered pasta, while my boyfriend ordered lasagna! The pasta was a tad salty but it had great flavor and taste to it. My boyfriend said that the lasgna was "meat" his standard (what a punny guy!) I assume this is done to maximize seating, but at the high cost of atmosphere. I had the braised short rib ravioli, and it was quite good, the ceasar salad was also on point, they clearly used fresh made dressing. Loved it. My partners seafood pasta with a cream sauce, She felt it contained some prepackaged ingredients, as she said the flavor was just a bit processed. Italian food is my absolute favourite, but there's a big difference between Authentic Italian and American Italian. Let me start off by saying the service was great and the atmosphere was nice. We received warm bread which is always a hit. We ordered a Pizza with Spicy Peppers and it was great, very thin pizza with tons of flavour and toppings. I would come back for just the pizza! Today's my birthday! (Actually it was December 23, but it took me a few days to finish this.) I've decided to order from Amici Trattoria - always support small, independent businesses in these Covid-19 times. Together, we keep each other afloat, etc. etc. (... not to go down with the sinking ship of our lives). .. Anyway, back to the birthday dinner. My children have already decided on their orders: Fettucine Alfredo for my daughter; Fettucine Pistachio for my son. Appetizers: Calamari alla griglia and frittura di calamare, as well as bruschetta. I actually called the restaurant to determine my husband's order, because he asked me to order for him. Ravioli di Manzo turned out to be the pick of the staff, chosen for a meat-loving guy. I loved it that they would give me actual advice, as opposed to just saying stuff like, "It depends what you like." What I like is serving staff with opinions! For myself, I am still undecided, but I think it will either be lasagne , gnocchi, or the lobster ravioli (ravioli di aragosta). I'm leaning toward the lobster right now. I will have to leave it up to my husband and daughter to decide about dessert. I prefer main course, anyway. Stay tuned ... I'll be back tomorrow after dinner! I settled on the Ravioli di Aragosta, and I was not disappointed! No regrets, once I'd sampled the delicate pasta, the savoury filling, and the creamy, fragrant sauce. I can never seem to make this kind of excellent sauce at home, and I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but Amici does it right. My son loved his Pistachio Chicken (He offered me a spoonful, and it was quite stupendous ... the same excellent saucing). My husband savoured his Ravioli di Manzo, and made many jokes about the "Manzo" name. My daughter had fettucine alfredo, and said that it was "very nice". Her favourite part of the meal, though, were the two calamari appetizers: alla griglia and fritura. Those apps were standouts! We all savoured them! It's hard to do squid well. I live very close to here but have never stopped in until tonight, for a quick dinner with a friend. We were greeted promptly and offered a choice of tables in the lounge or dining room. Both looked nice but we chose the dining room with its lower seating. Our server took our orders and brought us some freshly baked bread. It was perfect with a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I ended up eating most of it because I was starving! My friend ordered the Fusilli Con Salsiccia (house made sausage, herbed tomato, pepperoncino, rapini, roasted garlic, olive oil). She said it was a little salty which I thought might have been the sausage. She took home half of it because it was a very generous serving. I ordered the Lasagna (Layers of pasta, ground beef, mozzarella, asiago, parmesan and tomato sauce). It was pretty good and quite filling. There were no leftovers. I did say I was starving. We visited for dinner during the week on a Thursday evening. It was quite busy both outside and inside but we felt safe as there was lots of space between tables. The service was great, we were greeted, ordered and served our food in a timely manner. Our disappointment was in the quality of the food, as the veal Parmesan and tomato sauce were tasteless and the pizza wasn't even as good as something I would get at Dominos. Tonight's dinner prompted an immediate review! We came here with my parents to celebrate both Mother's Day and my Dad's birthday. The restaurant was packed, as one would expect on Mother's Day, but we planned ahead and had made a reservation. I had toiled over their menu prior to coming. With so many delicious sounding items, it's hard to make a decision! I had my decision down to two items but when I walked in the door, I read the specials board and my pre-planning went out the window!! I opted for the seafood special which was atlantic salmon and lobster tail with scalloped potatoes, roasted root vegetables and green beans with a tarragon cream sauce. Absolutely fantastic. The salmon and lobster were cooked perfectly and the tarragon sauce was amazing. Both of these were perched on top of cheesy scalloped potatoes and surrounded with the vegetables. The presentation was fabulous the flavour was fabulous and in fact, one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Even though the restaurant was filled to the rafters, our server was quick, friendly and attentive. I had such high hopes for this restaurant. The reviews online were great and I was craving lobster ravioli. The lobster ravioli was not cheap however the quality of food did not live up to the price at all. The cream sauce was watery, literally. It didn't have any taste, I added salt and pepper however there was no reviving that sauce. I also had their funghi misti pizza and it was not good at all, lacked flavour. I thought at least the arancini would've been good however there wasn't any cheese?!?! I would not recommend nor will I return to try other items, I have given them 2 stars for the service however the food ruined the experience entirely. read more

HUGE ITALIAN FOOD FAN! (but who isn't...) I'm in Pickering fairly often and this time I was just hunting down something to fill that craving. Food comes in generous portions, but I think the price is a bit steep and the service was not so great.. The waitress serving the table next to us would look at us as we waved at her, and just made a face and walked off. But when she talked to her own table, it was all chatty cathy and "omgosh"-es.... if you're working in a restaurant, I'm not asking you to serve all the tables, but guests don't always know that you are assigned certain ones. You could just say "i'll get your server". I dont think I've ever been upset with service from someone who WASN"T serving our table.. Our server though, honestly... she was MIA most the night.. Luckily the hostess comes around helping to set tables and she's happy to help us get some water & call our waitress on over. The servers seriously seemed to be struggling.. it's a full restaurant, plenty of staff... but seemingly no organization? Anyway. onto the food. We had the pizza with goat cheese which we thought was very nice. It's a big size and there's a thin crust, so that makes me an automatic fan. I ordered the fettuccine with a pistachio based sauce. It tasted amazing, but I will say it was a touch salty and the oils were really heavy. If you're not someone who often eats heavy meals or uses much oil in their cooking, this might be a over loaded meal. But give it a try and see for yourself! This might have been the fastest sit-down restaurant that I have ever experienced in my life! We dined at Amici at around 7pm on a Sunday night. We opted to eat in the lounge, where a medium-sized group and a handful of other couples were also eating. The service was incredibly prompt! Right after we ordered our meals, the server came with some starter bread & butter (which was great with the olive oils/balsamic vinegar). We were just finishing our last bite of the starter bread when our meals arrived. I ordered the Penne Con Pollo and it was very good. The "red pepper cream sauce" is more of an Alfredo sauce with little red pepper flakes. The grilled chicken and spinach make this dish great. Overall, I would recommend Amici for a little taste of Italy in Pickering/Durham Region. My only critique is for this restaurant to offer more variety on their menu (pastas and pizzas are great, but if they extended their Panini menu past 4pm, it could be even greater.) read more
