We had come here on a Saturday evening after noticing this restaurant in an article in the newspaper. I had called for reservations beforehand therefore, we were guaranteed a table. The parking lot was quite small for this restaurant, with only two settings being offered for the evening; we chose the one from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. The restaurant itself was also small, with tables and chairs situated in every nook of the historical home. The décor was beautiful, with many different pictures and bottles adorning the walls. We had first settled on the antipasto for one, along with the stracciatella soup. We were given a basket of bread and butter to start, which was delicious, as the bread was warm on the inside, and crunchy on the outside. The soup was authentic as can be, with delicious droplets of egg in a perfectly heated dish, tasting marvelous, bringing back a lot of wonderful memories. The antipasto platter was a tad small, costing $18.00 however, since we had our main dishes coming, we were settled with the amount that was given. For the main dishes, my husband had settled on the linguine with a multitude of fish; there was more fish than pasta, which is something that you hardly ever see in a restaurant. The meat cannelloni was fabulous, with just the perfect amount of sauce and cheese; although the cheese was a tad burnt on the top however, it didn't affect the taste in any way. Service was exceptional as well, with servers coming by often to refill our water glasses and ask how the food was. Overall, an authentic restaurant which boasted the best of Italian food in a cozy atmosphere. read more

I had a reservation for 7.30 and unfortunately arrived a bit late due to heavy traffic. Instead of understanding, the manager bluntly told me the kitchen was closed because "it's too hot and people are melting in there." She also mentioned something about a two‑hour sitting limit, even though we were never planning to stay that long. Her attitude was absolutely unacceptable--she was rude, dismissive, and spoke to me as if I was bothering her. At one point she almost outright said it's not her problem. It felt like my business and my money weren't welcome there. I never been to this place and will not be coming back. I'd rather go somewhere that actually values its customers and where the owner cares about the people who keep the business running. Avoid this place if you expect even basic courtesy. read more

Nice atmosphere wth tablecloths although very noisy as a lot of tables in each room. They have been here for 30 years and may have not changed the menu or recipe since. The lasagna was fine but quite bland, Needed more herbs and garlic. 25$ read more

I ate here ten years ago and ordered take out today. Bad then, bad now. Food is mediocre at best. Pasta is from a box, clams from a can. So disappointing for the price you pay. Everything is just full on loaded with garlic which I think was so that you forget you're paying $29 for boxed pasta and a can of clams. Total disappointment! We went for the valentines day dinner, fixed price and fixed tip. Apparently that left them nothing to try for. Calling the food cafeteria quality would be generous. We would expect a better Caesar salad from a bag at a grocery store. Unfortunately, it set the tone for the rest of the meal. It didn't get better. This is a very quaint setting in a a converted old house. It is a very enjoyable environment for a bottle of wine with ambience and candlelight. Unfortunately, that is the end of the positive remarks. They are employing very young and pleasant servers who unfortunately lack any serving polish. They were polite but green. What's more is that the culinary talent in this kitchen is seriously underwhelming. Do not order any soup. It is laughably bad. Think instant pack with hot water added for $9. Neither soup was even edible without the (lengthy effort for a) request for salt. The entrees were lackluster and would not bring us back anytime soon. We do have a depth of Italian dining experience and to say this is worthy of a return would be most disingenuous. Nice setting but most disappointing. Unfortunately the kitchen needs to try much harder. read more

Me and my wife decided to out for dinner last moment for v-day. I heard great things about this restaurant, but after I called them the gentleman told me to come anytime after 8pm. The lady who is probably the owner was not friendly at all, I understand that the other people had reservations. She was not even customer friendly no smile bad demeanor and did not care that we called in. She did ask us to wait at the end and said it is up to us and shrugged her shoulder, pretty much said to us whatever. Not sorry for your trouble at least have a drink until you wait or anything. She should be taking customer service courses. I will never go again and I live in the area it was our first time. I will make sure that other people know about the customer service and lack of CARING. read more

Authentic Italian restaurant. Our party enjoyed the bruschetta- crispy toast with fresh tomato and garlic toppings. We also had wonderfully thin slices of beef carpaccio topped with thin shavings of Parmesan, and and antipasto platter. Veal Marsala was the best looking of the the four dinners, but the veal saltimbocca, cannelloni casalinga, and spaghetti carbonnara were also good. Our first time at Case Verde in Pickering Village was pretty darn good. My husband had the special Osso Bucco with Saffron Risotto and I had the Cajun Sea Bass with fresh grilled veggies and potato. We started with a bottle of Santa Carolina Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 and the Fried Brie with Berry Coulee. For dessert, we had the Zabaglione for two. An excellent meal. The service was not quite on top of things, but otherwise a very good experience. I got the feeling that they were short on regular help and had filled in with people that weren't quite familiar with things. I'll definitely go there again though. read more

We ordered: GARLIC BREAD WITH CHEESE $9.00 INSALATA CAPRESE (Sliced tomato topped with bocconcini cheese, Virgin olive oil and fresh basil) $13 SPAGHETI CON POLPETTE (With veal meatballs in a savory tomato sauce) $22 SPAGHETTI CARBONARA DI SABRINA (Cream, panchetta, egg yolk, parmigiano cheese) $22 Wolf Blass Yellow Label Cabernet Sauvignon $43 ($16.95 at LCBO) Total without tip came to $124.00. With Tip $146.00 The garlic bread was simply just sliced Italian bread you can buy at a discount super market, with butter and a piece of cheese in the middle. The cheese did not even cover the entire slice. The INSALATA CAPRESE were typical greenhouse plum tomatoes that where not ripe. Literally probably two tomatoes with some a couple slices of bocconcini cheese, drizzled with a low quality olive oil with a few sprigs of basil. SPAGHETI CON POLPETTE was your typical panchetta with a cream sauce. Nothing at all special. We made much better when I took Italian cooking at George Browns culinary arts program. You will find better recipes on allrecipes.com. SPAGHETTI CARBONARA DI SABRINA, again nothing at all special. I was able to taste the breadcrumbs (the filler used in many meatballs). When we (Chefs at George Brown) taught us veal meatballs we did not use any fillers. Service was terrible. The woman that sat us down only talked to us when she sat us down and when she took our order. She never asked how the food was, never filled our water. There were only two other tables occupied when we arrived. She talked to the other people that were there (maybe they were regulars) but she never made us feel welcomed. The teenage service staff (maybe their kids) waited on us but they had no personality. It felt like they had no social skills and would rather be texting us instead of actually talking. I have had way better service at the chain restaurants. There is nothing overly unique about this place. I find The Keg has a much better ambiance. I left an 18% tip (that is the minimum that the machine defaulted to). I could have probably selected "other amount". I left it out of pity. However, that place will never see my patronage again. The processed foods at any chain restaurant that has an Italian menu would be much better. Maybe some people in the suburbs think this is Italian food but I would akin it to food any amateur can make for under $30 (both dishes). Actually I would suggest instead of bringing a date here. Buy fresh ingredients, 2 bottles of the same wine (only $34) and make this stuff yourself. You will enjoy the food, have a better evening, and the money saved can be spent at a better place. read more

Cozy comfortable atmosphere with competent and sincere service. The scallops with hollandaise sauce was delicious and the spinach beside was unexpected and a great match. The texture of the scallops was perfect though the outside could have a bit more sear. Had pickerel for the main and it was delicious. The accompanying vegetables are not an after thought and in my mind retained just right crispness. For my tastes they could cut back a bit with adding heat. Staff appropriately let you know which desserts are made in house. Had the tiramisu which while not a traditional presentation was also delicious. Half Litre of house red was a good value. If you are looking for a fine dining experience in Ajax in a relaxed less formal setting try Casa Verde. read more

I don't like leaving bad reviews, especially for those who are so obviously working hard on a small business. We were served by a woman who we suspected might be the owner. My Mom wanted a nice place to celebrate her daughter-in-law's birthday. The daughter-in-law ordered mussels. My niece ordered the antipasta plate for one. The antipasta plate was unattractive and sort of looked like a child's plate made by a frugal mother. Extremely thin slices of meat and cheese slapped on a bare small plate with tiny little sides of black olives and another of artichokes. Blah and pricey at maybe $14? The mussels served to my sister-in-law were small and not generously proportioned, perhaps about 16 mussels, perhaps costing about $15. She ate one or two and my Mom ate one. Both of them agreed they weren't very good, in fact, maybe bad? I tasted one as did my niece, we all agreed they tasted fishy, were more rubbery than usual and seemed cooked poorly too. None of us were comfortable eating them safely. (Oh and there was very little sauce/broth). No problem, we thought. Mistakes happen. My Mom flagged down the woman who was serving us and told her. We said we all tried it and we all agreed it was fishy. The server argued with us, telling us, like we were born yesterday "They are mussels, they are supposed to taste fishy" My mother replied she'd "eaten mussels all over the world and mussels don't usually taste fishy" The server, lips very tight told us haughtily, the mussels are fresh. She took them away in anger and tossed them. She had a very polite busboy and another server serve us for the rest of the meal, which was a relief for us. My niece and I had already ordered the linguini alla pescatore so it was too late to change our mind away from seafood. My niece called hers bland, mine was bland but salty. I ate half of mine because I was hungry but it was perhaps the worst linguini plate I can recall eating at a nice restaurant. On a good note, My mother ordered veal picatta and it was excellent (although my Mom got some attitude when she asked if they had gluten free pasta). My sister-in-law ordered the special stuffed chicken with goat cheese and also loved hers. My Mom told the new younger red-headed server it was my sister-in-laws birthday and she got a little whipped cream with a candle in it. The birthday girl ordered a dessert for two, Zabaglioni perhaps and I am the only one who could eat it, my sisiter-in-law didn't see it had alcohol in it, my neice tried it and didn't like it, I thought it was lovely. The woman was frosty as we left. It cost my Mom about $188.00 with tip ($28 tip) but no alcohol and a couple coffees. All four of us not only wouldn't recommend it but would warn people against it. read more
