I was getting lunch for my 96-year-old Dad,and I, and he likes the food from here. It's a small place on the inside, with just a few tables. They do a lot of to go orders. Everybody was very friendly. I ordered two burrito bowls. For Dad, I got the Carne Asada burrito bowl, and I explicitly explained what he wanted in it and what he didn't, what he wanted on the side, and they fixed it perfectly, to the "T" For myself, I ordered the shredded beef burrito bowl, again, explaining what I wanted, and what I didn't, and the order was absolutely perfect. while I waited for my food, I had some chips and salsa, the chips were the thicker chips, but they were very delicious, not greasy at all, and the salsa was fresh. I asked for a mild pico, , and it was a very nice mild pico. My dad liked his carne asada, burrito bowl very much, they were generous with the ingredients, and the veggies were fresh. I really enjoyed my shredded beef burrito bowl, again, the veggies were fresh, the ingredients were generous, and the shredded beef was tender and very flavorable. All I can say is this: I went to Amigas for the first time a few days ago and I'll be going back while I'm in town for work. The customer service was great! Everyone was friendly and helpful. Most importantly, the fish tacos I had were excellent. Not only did they look delicious, but they tasted amazing. Some of the best fish tacos I've had. Seriously! A couple days later we ordered for pick-up and I got a veggie burrito was was big. I added jalapenos, spicy salsa, and chose pinto beans. Very tasty and satisfying. I also had a cheese quesadilla which was good. The only tiny complaint I have is that the habanero salsa was NOT spicy enough! (I've eaten at two other restaurants where I asked for the food to be spicy and it wasn't....so I'm thinking they just don't trust me when I say I want it spicy! LOL!) My first night in Eureka was regrettably a Monday, so that meant most of the 'to visit' places in downtown were closed. If you're from LA, SF or Portland and are spoiled by an abundance of great Mexican Food; if you miss your old favorite eateries... This is it. The staff is very friendly, the service is fast, the chef and his grill is right up front, tons of seating. My favorites are the burrito mojado de carnitas, and their tacos for $1.50 on fridays. Ever searching for the perfect burrito, or the closest it comes in Humboldt, I stopped by for lunch. I'd never been here before and didn't bother to check yelp in advance, but the name and appearance suggested a decent chance of getting some good taqueria-style food. Everything looked promising when I got there, but it didn't quite hit the mark. I got a super chicken burrito. Right off the bat I was disappointed to see that rather than being complimentary, chips and salsa cost $3.25 which is kind of steep if you're going to charge anything at all for such a basic appetizer. For my drink I just got water, which can be gotten out of the soda fountain or from an iced jug with lemon. I was asked what kind of salsa I wanted, and I chose hot. They then asked what extra topping I wanted. I asked if they had fresh jalapeno and they said "Yes". I requested it on the side. It took about 5 minutes to be brought out. First thing I noticed was a cup of pickled jalapeno on the side. I like the heat and flavor of fresh jalapeno, not the pickled, canned stuff that belongs on fake nacho cheese at movie theaters. Along with this, there was still some pickled jalapeno inside the burrito, which I had requested on the side. The burrito itself was pretty wide, which is always a good thing, and the tortilla was heated to an almost-grilled consistency which I like. However, as another reviewer noted, it wasn't well-wrapped. Rather than your standard foil wrapping, it was very loosely wrapped in paper, so trying to eat it while holding it was difficult as I could see ingredients start to spill out of the side, while the bottom end was ballooning with each bite I took. I eventually had to resort to a fork in order to avoid getting my hands and shirt messy. The overall flavor was lacking. I couldn't detect the salsa at all, and the beans and chicken (which was unfortunately shredded instead of grilled) lent no flavor of their own. I had to resort to using Tapatio, which is like a flavor band-aid. It was filling if nothing else. It was worth a shot, but the overall bland taste and consistency reminded me of Hey Juan without the annoying "flare" or attitude. Service had no frills and no problems, so a star for that. Probably won't be returning. read more
