My husband and I had a Dia de los Muertos party on November 2nd catered by AMIGO Mexican Restaurant in Hixson. We met with the General Manager, Chandler Elias, who gave us gave suggestions as to what to serve for the party. We chose the Taco Bar. Chandler reviewed everything that was included, and we added a few more things to the list as well. Chandler delivered and set up the food at the prearranged time and it was such a hit with my guests! All the accompaniments, cilantro, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, rice, beans were beautifully chopped and prepared. Chips, salsa and queso were also included. We chose wonderfully seasoned carnitas and steak for the tacos. There were soft flour tacos, soft corn and hard corn. Everything looked and tasted so fresh! Chandler did a fantastic job of setting up the containers, including the cutlery for serving, as well as knives and forks. The food and the catering service was absolutely fantastic. Chandler was such a delight to work with. He is so enthusiastic about giving the best service possible. No doubt I will be using them for my future parties! read more

Some of my rice was under cooked and crunchy though, which was pretty disappointing. Someone else in my group got a burrito and none of their rice wasn't fully cooked. Idk man, the logo looked modern, and I was hoping it would be different than like El Metate and El Agave, but it is literally all the same. Salsa is better maybe. Two words: No Bueno. Not even close to living up to the "warning" tag line on the window that their food may become addictive. Slow on a Monday, the problems were: terrible food, totally apathetic server in a barely occupied restaurant, and terrible food. The cheese dip was the only good part. Dry, overcooked beef in my steak fajitas (one of the around $6.99 lunch specials) and they were just served on a hot plate, no skillet, which made me think the plate had been put under a heat lamp and the meat put on it. Eh on the trimmings. Decently juicy chicken on the Guadalajara plate and the melted cheese over it and the rice made it almost good, but the whole thing was a good idea that just didn't get there. Alas, my search for good (preferably divey) Mexican around Chattanooga continues. read more

We decided to stop in for lunch, as the place we originally wanted to go to was closed. I was apprehensive because of the Yelp score, however I was very satisfied with my experience here. The service was top notch - fast and friendly and attentive. The food was plenty and tasty. I had a margarita and can say that they were not stingy with the alcohol either. OK I use to live in Hixson and have been here many times and the bar area you are required to be 18 I think. It is in a large shopping area next to Staples so parking is not a problem. They have a typical Mexican restaurant with the typical décor and the have a lot of booths and some tables. Also there is a small bar separated by double doors from the restaurant. The bar is small with maybe 6 booths, 4 high tops and a bar that seats maybe 8 people. I was there on Sunday and Monday this week and service was pretty good except on Sunday the bartender had to wait tables so it was slow but he tried. I had grilled chicken nachos with flour tortillas. It was really bad and cold. I asked the bartender to heat it up and it was warm but still was not very good. On Monday I had the 75 cent tacos, hard shell and could have beef or bean. It was ground beef and had lettuce and cheese and it was OK. They have a full bar and draft beer (+1) so I had the 27 oz dark beer (I can't spell the Mexican name lol). As far as Mexican restaurants go, it is below average in décor, it was relatively cheap but the food and the food is just so so. I have always had friendly service and people are friendly and seems to always be crowded. To me it is not quite a 3 based on other similar restaurants and give it a 2+. read more

Went with my mom for her birthday. She had nachos supreme; I had nachos supreme with flour chips instead of corn tortilla chips. It was so good and I ate the entire plate! It's a good thing I always get the half order-I wouldn't have wanted to leave any of it and that would've been way too much for one person. Excellent food!!!!! Traveling from Texas and this was a great choice. Stupendous customer service. Our server accidentally charged us for a neighboring table's ticket. The manager himself came and apologized and explained the situation. He asked permission to again run my Card for our actual ticket, because he knew it would take a day or Two to refund the other tables ticket to my Account. Manager handled the situation with the utmost professionalism. Great job Shawn!!! Would certainly recommend this place! Oh, and try their salsa "verde", it's fantastic. I met my sister there for lunch. I had never been to that amigos, probably won't go again. The restaurant wasn't at all busy, neither were the workers... The sauce was more like spaghetti sauce than Mexican sauce. The ground meat was so fine i would've mistaken it for coffee grounds, but it had no taste at all. The shell for my taco salad was hard and overcooked. Not much bang for the buck. The waitress was nice helpful and patient. The tea was really good. I guess that made up for the bad. Not sure if anyone ever mentioned it to them, but salsa requires more than tomato paste and water to have some flavor. Onion powder alone would make it 50% better. It looks like its been a while since anybody reviewed this location. Our party of six was seated quickly. Our waiter was immediately at the table for drink orders. He was friendly and returned promptly with correct drinks. The prices were reasonable and the food was pretty tasty. The ground beef used in several dishes was seasoned well and was not greasy. The queso had good flavor but was a little thin and runny. Chips were fresh and crisp without being greasy. The salsa had a mild heat. The shrimp nachos supreme were loaded with shrimp and a full order was more than one diner could eat. The chile relleno was stuffed with meat and cheese. All in all, it was an enjoyable meal. The server was attentive and kept the drinks filled. Management stopped by the table to check on the food and the service. The amount of food for the money was definitely a positive. Negatively, the food and plates could have been hotter from the kitchen. The restaurant is in a strip mall. The decorations and lighting could be better. This use to be our favorite Mexican restaurant . But over time keeps going down hill. Probably will not go back. Not only have their prices gone way up. The portions have gone hill. The last 2 times I went the 2 main items that went on my Meal were missing. When they brought them. They charged me(reminder these items were suppose to be on it), My meal came with beans and rice had maybe 2 tablespoons of beans. Many other Mexican restaurants in Chattanooga. Give one a try. We get take-out a lot from this location. The food we actually get is great. We are a family of four. (2 adults and 2 children) we spend about $25 - $30 which is great. The staff is not personable at all, so if that's what you are big on this its not the place for you. They are more like robots just doing a job. The food being so good is why we go back, BUT there is something missing about 1 out of every 3 trips. I have never complained though so that could be why my problem has not been resolved. I have enjoyed coming to this location for a quick meal & great service in the bar! The Tacos Flacos is basically a lettuce wrap with your choice of meat, and gives nice option to make it a slightly healthier meal. Salsa verde here is made fresh & has good heat to it. They have some low carb tortilla choices too. Their salsa that comes with the chips is a little bland, it could use some more cilantro or something to kick it up a notch.
