Picture a mountain of grilled chicken smothered in a suspiciously thick cheese sauce, all dumped onto a bed of overcooked rice. It looked like someone had put all the ingredients in a blender, hit pulse, and then casually spilled it onto the plate. The chicken was barely distinguishable from the rice, and the whole thing had the consistency and appearance of something my dog would've eagerly scarfed down. But for a human? Not so much. My husband had better luck with his chimichanga which he described as "average". He said the refried beans were good. We were there on a Monday night and noticed that the place was quite busy. Turns out it was dollar taco night and it seemed popular and looked like the folks were enjoying it. If you're into eating straight-up blandness served with a side of "this could've been better," this place is for you. Or if you have a hankering for $1 tacos, go there on a Monday. Refried beans had actual bean chunks, not the soupy smooth mixture you see at many express Mexican joints. Service was a bit slower than expected but the food was worth the wait. The best ambiance is in the back dining room. Parking is free in side lots but be sure to scan QR code in restaurant to validate parking. Amigos is a good place to stop for lunch or dinner in St Elmo's. It's right across from the Incline Railway and a short drive to Rock City and Ruby Falls. read more

The ingredients both times did not taste fresh or of high quality. It almost seems like they are cooking up large batches of food and then reheating it for individual orders? Something you may want to pay attention to is your check! We have been a regular for awhile and would request a specific waitress, she fixed our drinks (right)! She made sure our food was right! & our check was always right! Well that's how it is supposed to be BUT if you get anyone else, who knows what kind of drink you will get???? You might get what you ordered?? And I saved the best for last, 9 out 10 times our check was always wrong!! Over charged! Stuff we didn't even get! Order a mini pitcher of beer but get charged for a full size. Order 1/2 order of nachos but get charged full price but got half order to eat. We finally had had enough! One of the waitresses with long stringy hair, older than the girls, is the main one you have to watch out doing that, I have heard people sitting in booths beside us say the same stuff to her, you over charged me! Boy, I want this place to be great, but I'm done. Mexican restaurants are judged by the margaritas they produce. They should be consistent, both the margs and the food. This place is not. No dedicated bartender, so whichever server you get is yours. The waitstaff has not had any training on proper bartending and it shows. My $15 quesadilla came with a sliver of cheese in the center of the tortilla. The meat had no binder at all. When I mentioned this to my not great bartending server, his response was that he'd let the guy know who made it. The visit prior, I requested a side of ground beef. When it was served solo, the texture and taste were subpar. Nasty, actually. This is so convenient but I'm dunzo. We came here last minute for dinner and had called ahead about how busy it was. It was busy which is why we hurried over. When we entered, I was not a fan of the environment. It was blank white walls with wooden/steal seating. I have adhd which doesn't affect me too much with dining, but the echoy volume of everyone in the building with the white walls made me uncomfortable. The staff was very kind and tried their best tending to us since it was very busy. My parents ordered margaritas snd I just had a water. They said the drinks tasted like chemicals (like the drinks taste that way, not cleaning chemicals). I ordered the grilled chicken tacos and was surprised when it was only cheese and chicken on it without additional toppings. My grandma gave me her side of guacamole to help make my meal more flavorful. The cheese was very good, but got very bland the more I ate. I have eaten a lot of Mexican restaurants and this is by far the best I've ever had outside of Mexico and South Texas. The food was absolutely fantastic, the service was phenomenal. The location it's amazing. She may have to wait on a parking spot because their parking lots a little small but that cannot be helped. The pork tamale was the best tamale I've ever had. Even the rice and beans were fantastic. So much flavor, deliciously salty. Just what you're looking for when you want a delicious Mexican lunch! Do yourself a favor and try it out. My family eats here often. The food is good, there is never a wait for a table and it's a nice facility.

My wife and I have eaten here several times since they have opened and have been throughly impressed with the quality and taste of the food. It is definitely one of our favorite Mexican restaurant in Chattanooga now. The service was always friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself has a little more of a sports bar vibe then a traditional Mexican restaurant, and is a great spot to catch a game. Typically, I do not write reviews after a first visit, especially to a relatively new restaurant, but my family has supported the Amigos brand for as long as they have been in this area and this particular location does not protect the brand! First - the parking. It's a paid lot with a QR code posted. You find out once you get to the front door that parking would have been free if you were eating at Amigos. Oops - too late! Next - they make you walk all the way back to St. Elmo Avenue to enter the building. There is a side entrance, but it is blocked. Inconvenient. Inside, the décor is not inviting and the table we had rocked like it was sitting on a baseball! Worst - we got 2 orders of tacos (6 total) and they were each maybe 2/3 full, totally antithesis to the Amigos brand, known to be the best tacos in this area. My husband pointed this out to the server, showing her one of the tacos and she said she was sorry, that she didn't build the tacos. She offered to get another one and even admitted that they were not up to Amigos standards. Good business would have been to either not charge us for the orders or give us a coupon to come back and give them another chance. On a happy note - the chicken fajitas were great and the chips and salsa were good. I really want to say that we'll go back in a few months, but frankly, we're just as close to the Rossville location and it is awesome! read more
