Good portion for the size and the meats marinated well and very juicy. The chicken burrito was packed with shredded chicken. The Birria tacos beef came with a tangy zesty dipping sauce. Yummy on a crispy tacos. The start dish has to be the fish tacos. Large mahi fillet is the center and nice topping. Well balanced. Not soggy. We loved everything. This is our go to Mexican restaurant in Chattanooga. Located in the heart of North Shore, this place is right on the corner of N Market St with large windows for people watching. It's very modern with vibrant decor and good music playing. There's a large Bar in the middle of the restaurant with TV's and booths and tables all around. No outdoor dining that I can remember, but I could be mistaken. We've had several dishes, but my go to is the Spicy Burrito with Tinga or grilled chicken. You won't find a spicier burrito with flavor anywhere in town. If you like melted cheese, almost every dish is swimming in it. According to my wife the Margaritas are on point! I prefer a cold beer. The service is good. We're always greeted and have good conversation with the servers and bar tenders when we dine in VS take out. They have a big party for Cinco de Mayo every year. From the moment you walk in you get fun vibes with all the color and decor. The staff is welcoming and service was great. The suiza enchiladas were exactly what I was hoping for with a creamy green sauce ! It was soo good and so were the pork tamales ! Had plenty of meat in them and the masa around it tasted fresh. The Asada taco hit the mark on flavor although the carnitas was lacking a little but with some lime and avocado salsa it was spruced up nicely. They also have a pretty good house margarita. We had an amazing experience here! I forgot to take photos, but our waiter was so helpful. He constantly refilled our drinks, and we always had chips and salsa available. I came in just now with my family of 5. We walked in and the place was empty and yet we stood there for 10 minutes and nobody greeted us or even so much as looked up. (The sign said to wait to be seated.). At one point my wife asked across the room to the bartender if someone was hosting and she was told that someone would be right out. This place was such a great find!!! When my family of five arrived the restaurant was quiet and empty, the waiter was kind and the food came quick. We ate our meal too fast to take many pictures, but it was incredible! I got the street tacos and also ate some of my sister's left over biriani, they both were delicious. Over the years, my travels has allowed me a wide range of offerings across the country as Mexican food has become such a popular ethnic food category, with nearly every city offering so many options to sample. This is a family-owned, single location. It's a great location, unfortunately with some real parking challenges, which surprisingly, have not seemed to negatively impact the viability of this store. There are a variety of the anticipated food offerings one would expect at a "good" Mexican restaurant, plus some unusual, unique takes, one would not associate with traditional Mexican food, e.g., a Philadelphia Cheese-steak burrito (it's great b-t-w). The key though are the core products, great, refreshing margaritas, tasty chips and salsa, and real Mexican food. Fortunately, Mezcla delivers on all fronts. Talk about great customer service. This place is a winner. Recently visited Chattanooga for my partner's birthday, and he really wanted to visit this place. He'd been a student in the area years ago and always wanted to eat at this place when he was a broke college student. Fast-forward many years and we're visiting when a wave of nostalgia washes over him and he MUST eat at this place:) We called at 8:22pm to confirm they closed at 9pm and the lady said, "As long as you are seated and get your order in by 8:55pm, you're welcome to stay, eat, and have a good time." True to their word, we walked in at 8:45pm, we're immediately seated at the bar, and put in two order with 8 minutes to spare. Everybody was kind and gracious, and no one acted like we were ruining their closing time. As a matter of fact, Junior rolled out the red carpet at the bar and talked us through picking several mezcals so we could enjoy a birthday flight! My winner for the night was definitely the Montelobos (perfect beginner mezcal just made for sipping!), but the in-house mezcal (special blend only available there!) was a very close second. The birria tacos were great, and you can easily spilt the entrees with a friend. The sleeper dish of the entire joint is the chips and salsa. These are some of the thinnest, most delicate (and warm!) chips I've ever had. And don't get me started on the salsa. Is that tomatillo-based?! Give. Me. More. They were kind enough to let us shut the place down, and we never felt rushed to finish our flight, meals, or the fun vibe. They've got service DOWN here, and if you're in the market for a new spot where you can try tasty beverages, this is it. So there we were just innocently trying to add a little spice to the evening before seeing Hamiltone! Set the scene; two hungry travelers illegally parked in the back parking lot getting ready to make a run for it! We land in this air conditioned oasis with the scent of tropical drinks and habanero dazzling the air. Without knowing what we were about to experience we claw through the plentiful menu that has tiny print. We settle on spicy burritos; one steak one pork. When this beautiful beast gets to the table looking almost too good to eat...we dig in. The spices the crema the pickled onions dance across our tongues like a ballerina in a summer dress and sombrero in flames. I full heartedly think this might be the best restaurant in Chattanooga. I ordered the Enchiladas Suizas and a spicy watermelon margarita which was recommended by the server. The enchiladas were unlike any enchiladas I've ever had before! Personally, the margarita wasn't what I expected, but it was still quite refreshing. Our server was very friendly and the vibes in the restaurant were very cute. There was great lighting and cool decorations. The churros were basically a religious experience and it was paired with a churro flavored ice cream which was so so so good. We searched for places to eat on social media and Yelp, but surprisingly Mezcla did not come up. Due to timing issues with a previous choice, we drove around the area until we found another great spot and I gotta say I'm glad we did! The reviews did not overhype this place up! The decor, food and drinks are all amazing!! I've never been to Mexico but this is close to the Mexican food I've eaten In California. My only tip: don't fill up on the delicious fresh chips and salsa. I usually enjoy coming here, but I left feeling frustrated after Cinco de Mayo festivities. When we received our bill, we realized a 22% charge had automatically been applied for the meals. At no point were we told this would happen, and we didn't see it indicated on the menu. The table next to us was also confused and upset to see higher prices on their bill than what was listed on the menu. We expressed our concern to our server, and they agreed that management should have advertised it more clearly. While I understand the desire to adjust pricing for the holiday, the lack of transparency is misleading. The charge was already applied and couldn't be removed, which made it feel like we were being taken advantage of. Clear communication upfront would have made a big difference. It makes us feel uncomfortable going back knowing they charged everyone 22% without disclosing it. read more
