First visit to Amigo. We enjoyed our experience. They're located in a strip shopping center with a lot of parking. The food was good and their thick salsa had a nice flavor. Their tortilla chips were a bit thicker than usual, which took away from the flavor of the salsa a bit. Their lunch menu is a little short on options compared to many other Mexican restaurants (most lunch dishes $8-12). We had a friendly waiter who brought our food very quickly. Service was really great. However, this is Tex Mex not what we are used to, being from California. I ordered a chili relleno. It said ground beef filling, so I assumed it would be ground beef and cheese inside. I asked if it could be made without the ground beef and she said no. So I said I'd try it. I shouldn't have. Inside the chili was some sort of ground beef mixture and the cheese was just sprinkled on top. It wasn't even fried. I took one bite and stopped eating it. I also ordered a tostada because I figured who could mess that up. Well it came with no beans, just meat. The good things.. chips and salsa were great. Refried beans and rice.. also good. I ended up scooping up the refried beans and putting it on the tostada. My husband had the chimichangas, but had to ask them to put cheese on them instead of the queso sauce they came with. He asked them to hold the queso sauce. He asked if they could put the cheese inside the chimichangas and they said no. He said they were mediocre. So if you like Tex Mex, I'm sure you'll like this restaurant. If you want authentic Mexican food, this isn't the place for you. read more

New to the area so decided to try Amigo for an early dinner. The place was clean and looked like a traditional Mexican restaurant. Menu pricing seemed good until you realized most meals do not include rice & beans and adding a side places some of their meals on the higher price scale. I took the servers recommendation to try the Soggy Tacos. This is basically a double decker style taco with a hard taco wrapped in a soft tortilla with cheese. The meat was a steak and chorizo blend. The meat had a good flavor but was extremely greasy, likely from the chorizo. They were fine but nothing special. The service was good and the server was friendly. As we both left we said there was nothing bad but nothing stood out. I'll keep looking as I don't see this as my regular stop for Mexican food read more

We had very bad experience with our server (Devon). I asked if she could give me a margarita with no salt and easy ice and she blew up at me Saying she couldn't do that it was against the law and raising her voice. I said fine my margarita came with salt . Then she took persons order that came after us and when we said something about that so raised her voice and said she had a hard day and did not have to put up with us. Then the manager brought our meal cause she never came back after taking our order. Biggest problem is she never even (Carded Me) for my margarita. I thought it was a law that they card you. This was the worst service and experience ever. Food was good like always but me and my mom didn't even get to eat cause we had to wait at-least 30-40 minutes for sour cream. On top of that a group of women were saying the f-word every few seconds with kids around. Asked for manager and had to wait at least an hour or so to get her only to be asked for to go boxes. Super fresh guacamole, super fast service, and super big margaritas! We were headed to a storytelling event and just needed drinks and an appetizer. We saw a sign for Amigo and The Black Olive, based on reviews, we walked into The Black Olive, and stood there for 5 minutes. We were not even greeted after more than 5 minutes standing at the front! So we walked into Amigo's instead, were immediately greeted and seated. Chips with salsa came 30 seconds later, and our waitress took our order after another 30 seconds. We ordered Abuela's Guacamole and 2 Texas margaritas. The margaritas were good, my wife said "glad I'm not driving ". And the Abuela's Guacamole was very fresh, not made ahead, just like the menu said. And a tiny bit of heat from the jalapeño balanced the flavors perfectly. I put photos of the appetizers not our food. These were okay. I liked the guacamole it had a nice lime and cilantro flavor , it was not spicy. The other dip was good while hot, when it cooled off not so much(not spicy) . The salsa is ok but not spicy. Despise the parking at this place. It is wonky. The food is good but my chicken chimis were burnt. Ate here on a Friday evening around 7:40pm after driving for two hours. I enjoyed my meal here. The chips for the salsa were warm and not too heavy. I asked (as I always do) for the hotter tomatillo salsa and it was the best I've had at any Mexican restaurant . Everyone can make a hot salsa but this had a nice bright front-end flavor to it. Kudos to the chef. My gf ordered the lunch special chicken enchilada plate which I think was only around $8 and I ordered the lunch portion of fajitas for $12.65. Pretty good bargain these days for both dishes. Both were flavorful and fresh. I always taste the fajita meat and veggies by themselves and these were well seasoned but not overly salty like some I've had. Comes with the obiligatory side plate of pico,lettuce, guac and sour cream. The guac was kinda thin in texture...almost identical to the sour cream. That could use a more rustic approach I think. Three tortillas were included and there was enough fajita fixings for four at least. We finished the meal with the $6 fried ice cream and it was aces...plenty big enough for two to share and done properly with a corn flake coating. Total bill with dessert and drinks was right at $35. OK so this was our first time here and yes I have read many of the reviews and maybe this was just my personal experience but it was a great one. I don't think I am very easy to please according to my husband... LOL but we had a great experience the wait staff was super friendly very attentive the food was on point not going to say it's the best I've ever had but it was still pretty delicious and the chips just kept coming. My husband had a strawberry margarita which he liked very much all my daughter will eat is rice but she had two helpings of it.We have been to other places around here and they're OK but just not the same. As soon as we walked in I really enjoy the atmosphere and all around we had a great experience so if you're looking for a place and are even thinking about giving a try do so and hopefully your experience will be the same as mine. read more

Had lunch for the first time at this Amigos location. One of the best cheeseburgers I've had anywhere. The French fries are superb, reminding me of the seasoned fries from Sammons. The nachos supreme is a wonderful entree to order. Our waitress was very sweet and helpful. My only complaint is that when I asked if there is onion for the cheeseburger she said yes, raw onion, is that alright? I said yes, of course. When the bill arrived I found that I had been charged $1.00 for the slice of raw onion. Granted, the onion was delicious, but charging a dollar for it is too much. A quarter perhaps if there has to be an additional charge at all. By the way, my granddaughter ordered chicken tenders and fries. Again, some of the best chicken tenders around, bar none. read more

HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE SERVICE. We dined with a party of ten. All meals were delivered at the same time except mine. I order the steak & shrimp fajitas... by the time my food came others were already done eating. No apologizes from the waiter. I had to ask for my tortillas and some shredded cheese. When the bills came there was no discount for the inconvenience, INSTEAD, I was charged extra for the small bowl of cheese and the extra (3) tortillas they brought out. The only reason extra tortilla were needed is the original amount of tortillas (3) is not enough for amount of fajita fixing that were delivered. In summary I can't believe there was no apologizes, no discount and they had the audacity to charge me for the small extras I requested. Unbelievable! read more

I used to absolutely love this place.. we went her July 4th pretty early before to crowd got there and we had a Caucasian female as our waitress. Let me tell you the most rude server I have ever had in my life. She would roll her eyes when we asked for a refill which I only got one of. My drink stayed empty for at least 10-15 mins. She was hateful and rude and due to her I will never go back until I know she is gone. The food was still good I can't complain on the quality of food. The food isn't very authentic, and is even a bit bland, but keep in mind that you are eating Mexican food in East Tennessee. The servers are very accommodating of large parties of rowdy children after church on Sundays, and food is brought out in a quick manner. I had a bean burrito, which lacked taste, but the bean dip Amigo serves as a salsa is surprisingly addicting (albeit not very Mexican). In a quiet town, this place is open until 10:30pm on a Friday night, which is great so one isn't limited to Arby's and Hardee's for dinner. So disappointing. It was really aggravating to pay for bad food that was barely eaten. Cheese dip wasn't very warm when it was brought to the table. Rice was hard. My mother in law and I both got a chile relleno and both were not good at all. My husband got a burrito that was about 60% full of just onions. I ordered for pickup - the hostess was super nice over the phone- when we got home I realized we were missing part of the meal. That was okay- stuff happens! I called right away and was told we would be refunded for what was missing. However when I called a few days later to check to see if I would be refunded we were accused of lying for free food. We were not looking for it to all be refunded- only what we did not receive. I let it go because at the end of the day it is not a big deal but I really did not appreciate being accused of trying to get "free food". Do not ever eat at the Amigo's in Jonesborough. We stood and waited 45 minutes for a takeout order that got cold because their card machine was broken. We were very patient and kept asking if we could ether have the order comped or just go somewhere else and kept being told to wait. Then, when the machine finally did work, they still charged us the full amount for the order and gave us the cold food. We will never be back in here again. This place took over the old bar called biggies. It has good Mexican food but nothing crazy awesome. The bar is huge and the evening crowd seems fun but on a food stand point I don't remember anything that popped out at me.
