We are up in Milford, New Hampshire visiting our daughter and son in law for Christmas. We met some friends and went to Amigos Mexican Canteen on South Street in downtown Milford. We arrive early and had some beers and cocktails, they were excellent. Our waitress, Courtney, was so nice. We talked about our families and she was so friendly. My wife had some fried shrimp and I had baked potatoes skins. Wow, they were delicious. She decided not to have a main because the shrimp and the chips and salsa. Everything was served hot and tasted great! I had a Steak Bomb burrito that was out of this world. So much food I couldn't finish it. My daughter had the Ruben Quesadilla which was another delicious meal. My wife actually had dessert, Flan and whipped cream. It tasted great! Great atmosphere to enjoy your family and friends! To end the night there was a karaoke DJ, Richie Rich, who had people come and sing! The people who sang weren't bad. My daughter and her friend got up to sing... not bad. Nice singing for "normal" people. We had a wonderful dining experience and Amigos made a great day better. If you're in southern New Hampshire, make sure to stop it at Amigos. You will not be sorry. Unacceptable treatment, racial bias, and deeply uncomfortable experience. I came here after a 15-hour workday with four of my coworkers to grab food and a drink for takeout. While the server who took our food order was polite (and I tipped her for her effort), the experience at the bar was completely unacceptable. I ordered a drink and pulled out my physical Delaware ID. The bartender took my ID and walked away with it near the freezer area out of my sight line--which made me immediately uncomfortable. She then made a bizarre comment about me having "too many IDs" in my wallet. What followed was absurd: it took three staff members (one male, two females) over 10 minutes to examine a completely valid state ID. They weren't even checking the birthdate--they were fixated on the fact that it was an out-of-state Delaware ID. Standard establishment policy and basic service code of conduct require using an actual ID scanner or verification reader to authenticate out-of-state IDs quickly, rather than having three employees huddle over it and make baseless assumptions. Meanwhile, my 22-year-old white coworker was served immediately with zero issues. The discrimination was so obvious that a white female customer sitting at the bar called it out directly, stating that her own 21-year-old daughter was served with no problem, calling the staff's behavior shameful. If management checks the security camera footage, you will see two female customers at the bar calling me over to buy my drink for me because of how unfairly I was being treated. I offered my digital ID and business ID to resolve it, but the hostility and suspicion continued. Being singled out and treated like a suspect ruined the entire evening. It made me so uncomfortable that I didn't even want the drink or the food anymore and requested a full refund. I will never spend another dollar here. Management needs to invest in proper ID scanners and address the clear bias and unprofessional service from their bar team. read more

We went here Sunday ordered a burrito and fish tacos. My burrito tasted like I don't know how to describe it, but someone who has bad hygiene, prepared my burrito. I almost gagged. Everything was cold. The race was reheated. I could tell. I am a chef, the fish tacos, the batter was bland and way too thick. I don't know if you have a chef who works there but if you do you need to find someone else my girlfriend headed to the bathroom and she told me how disgusting it was inside the bathroom. I've been coming to Amigos Mexican Cantina for many, many years. This place used to be a regular stop for us when we were in Milford often. We took a couple-year break simply because we're not in town nearly as much anymore. When we saw they were open again on Sundays, we were genuinely excited and decided to stop in today for old times' sake. First, the positives: the margaritas are still absolute fire. No complaints there at all -- they were fantastic and easily the highlight of the visit. That said, it's pretty clear the restaurant has changed ownership, and unfortunately a lot else has changed too. I ordered the Espinaca burger -- a burger I had waited years to have again because it used to be amazing. Today, it was very obvious that the patty was a frozen hamburger with toppings kind of tossed in its general direction. The quality that made it memorable is gone, and honestly, so is my desire to ever order it again. The appetizer was another disappointment -- clearly frozen, generic, and nothing like what Amigos used to serve. Our bartender/server, Andy, was kind and friendly, but he seemed stretched thin and behind on several tasks with a lot of people to manage, which didn't help the overall experience. For a $100 lunch, this was a real letdown. This just isn't the Amigos it used to be, and that's disappointing to say as someone who supported this place for years. We've been loyal customers of Amigos for years and always enjoyed the friendly staff, great atmosphere, and amazing margaritas. Since the change in ownership, however, the food quality has declined. We've given it a few chances and have visited a couple of times since the new owners took over, hoping things would improve. Unfortunately, each visit has been disappointing. The meat was dry, the dishes lacked the flavor we remembered, and the portions were noticeably smaller. I LOVE this place. The margaritas of which there are many varieties are so good! The food is delicious. My husband and I often share several appetizers we love the taquitos and can't decide if beef or chicken are better because they are both so yummy! The table shared the delicious Baltimore wings and also enjoyed the southwestern egg rolls. One person got the Mexican Mac and said it was amazing. The place was very busy but the service was friendly and prompt and we really enjoyed ourselves! We sat at a table near the bar and it allowed us to be part of the action but have our own place. Despite the busy Saturday night we felt like we were able to talk and connect over dinner and celebrate our marathon finishes! read more

Walked in and ordered 2 crunchy beef tacos, waited at least 30 minutes for 2 tacos to go. Restaurant was not crowded. Made the 3 minute drive home and the tacos were inedible! Shells has disintegrated into complete mush! Couldn't even pick them up! They were like creamed corn! There was also some random pieces of who know what in the box. Looked like shredded cabbage, which does not go on tacos. No it was not lettuce! Never again! read more

​I'm hoping this goes through as a zero-star review. I have been coming here for over 20 years with my family and have raved about this place to friends and even strangers. We drive about an hour just to eat here, but the new owner has absolutely ruined this establishment. ​They removed the rewards program and incorporated a 'convenience fee' that is supposedly for using a card--yet you are still charged this 'convenience' when paying with cash. While it has always been a family-friendly restaurant, that is no longer the case at 6:45 PM on Saturdays. They dim the lights so low you can't even see your plate just to host karaoke. I especially 'loved' listening to 'Tequila Makes Her Clothes Come Off' while eating with my children. ​I've never seen this place so dead on a Saturday night, and it is clearly due to the karaoke; they even close down five tables just to set it up. I just watched a table gwt up and end up leaving as karaoke started...20 minutes earlier than they say its supposed to. The new owner is certainly getting that change he is looking for... change for the worse, including their once-awesome salsa and their award-winning drinks. It is truly sad to see what this place has become. The new owner is obviously not listening to the staff or the customers who have been loyal for a long time. Far from authentic Mexican food. The "all you can eat" pork tacos were swimming in liquid, overly salty and lacked flavor. The soft tortillas were the kind you get from the grocery store and the hard were no better. The food was cold to the point that their shredded cheese didn't even melt. It's mediocre at best. Service was ok although it was the bartender serving both the bar and the dining room. The restaurant itself feels like a dive bar. read more

I had been going to Amigos for quite a few years. The food and service is always consistently good. Today's visit was just perfect. The service was superb from Jessica our server. She is as very pleasant and made the dining experience very enjoyable. I would highly recommend asking for her when you go in to dine. The food was the icing on the cake, it was very fresh and delicious. I got the Nacho's Supreme with chicken and shredded pork as well as the boneless chicken tenders with the Buffalo sauce on the side. They were very tasty and had a very nice and light batter. We had dinner last night at Amigos, which is located near the Oval. Amigo's has outside seating in front and inside, the place is one open room with bar area to the right and table seating to the left. The atmosphere is that of a traditional loud Main Street tavern with high ceilings and old wood floors. The place is decorated with string holiday lights and some Mexican decor on the walls. We were seated immediately around 7:45PM as other diners were finishing up. Our server promptly arrived with warm chips and salsa (cup too small) and took our drink orders for Margaritas ($5.50 each) and Diet Pepsis ($1.99 each). The Margaritas served to us were strong, mixed individually by the bartender. The menu offers a mostly traditional Mexican menu plus some special items such as Mexican Meatloaf and Quervo Steak. Most dinners come with the choice of two sides. We started out with a bowl of Five Chile Chili ($5.95) topped with melted cheeses, which we dipped the chips into. The chili was very good and spicy and had a smoky flavor. For dinners, the Chimi Del Mar ($12.95) served with two sides (chose rice & sweet potato fries) was pretty good and was stuffed with crabmeat, shrimp, grilled vegetables, & cheese and topped with a rich and spicy espinaca cheese sauce. The 2 Fish Tacos ($9.95) were just okay and had battered dipped/fried tilapia with shredded cabbage in soft tortillas served with rice and refried beans. We also shared an individual Crabmeat Enchilada ($4.45) topped with espinaca which tasted great! For dessert, we had the Fried Ice Cream ($4.95) and chose chocolate ice cream rolled in corn flakes, topped with strawberries & whipped cream and served in a fried tortilla bowl. Having the choice of chocolate ice cream (usually only vanilla ice cream) for fried ice cream is a good thing! This dessert was decent overall. The service was good on this visit. We were offered and given refills on chips & salsa, on Diet Pepsis, reorders on Margaritas, and timely delivery of the food and check. The food for the most part was good and the margaritas served here were strong, wow! Amigos will be opening a second location in Merrimack in 2009. read more

Spent some time tooling around the Monadnock region on our bike at the tale end of Bike Week and after a few hours of riding we needed a mid afternoon break. Pulled into the single parking space outside and slid the dresser in line with a few other bikes and got ourselves an outside table. Orders up a shredded chicken quesadilla and some chilli nachos along with one The Bike Shop margarita. The meat was moist and tender, the food well seasoned without being overly so and the young lady who waited on us was friendly and attentive. Grabbed take out with hopes of supporting local businesses during covid. Can give them a free ride for authenticity (they serve Reubens..) as we had little expectations going in. My problem was that we spent half the take out conversation talking about allergens for my son yet we still end up finding cheese in his tacos. Not even stay pieces, but an actual serving. Lol it not too big but it does have a bar and clean bathrooms . We particularly enjoyed the fancy tomato ketchup, and the Mexican cuisine of coursefajita quesadillas, shrimp wrap, and enchiladas were to die for. Took my food to go bc of poor, dismissive service and unfriendly staff - granted we were a "slightly" difficult party in that we grew from 5 to 7 people, but that shouldn't warrant a lapse in service; after our party grew we waited over 45 min. before even being seen by a server. Drinks empty. Menus closed. We had to take our food to go bc after waiting over an hour to get our order in, we had to get the frick going!! At the end I tipped our rude, unattentive server 15% bc I'm in the service industry and understand if you have an off night or whatever but I made sure to write out a bit of dissatisfaction to management - boy was that funny! After finding a spot to eat outside, the manager decided to ~ track us down ~ tear off the note I wrote and say some snarky remark abt how we could've "let us know in advance next time if ur in a rush and maybe the service won't be poor" Like dude. We weren't in a fricken rush we were in your restaurant for over an hour, the service just sucked. Also he had mentioned something abt being busy, but at the time our food came out we were one of four tables in the dining room. Good food. Poor service. Worse management. Great location, super chill vibe and very friendly staff during our Saturday lunch visit. Cadillac margarita was tasty and they offer at least 10 margarita variations which was nice to choose from. Food: Taco Plate- the beef in our tacos, the Mexican rice and black beans and tortillas was like it was from a taco kit- nothing authentic, extra yummy or special at all there but edible... Super crispy, white and perfectly salty chips were served upon seating with a very fresh salsa that was satisfying. No churros to be had though...dessert option were carrot cake and cheesecake. Sides included French fried so I'd tag this restaurant as a Mexican-American fusion...But we'd prefer either one or the other. read more

The only reason why this is two stars is because our waitress Julia was awesome. Otherwise, I wouldn't give this place a single star. Ordered southwest egg rolls appetizer. Nothing special but good and tasted fresh. Both ordered Modelo with salt and lime, no care was taken to remove the foil from the rim and I was consistently getting bits of foil on sips. If you drink Modelo you know how finicky it is to get that foil off. Worst part is the mains. First of all, a burrito came out with *barbeque sauce* and shredded cheese melted onto it.... I'm sorry? Barbecue sauce on a burrito? Should have been red flag #1. No self respecting cantina would sell dog vomit like that. For being a Mexican restaurant a lot of the staple dishes were overly americanized with weird and disgusting combinations. I went with the Jamaican tacos with Mahi Mahi because it was the only fish taco that wasn't breaded and deep fried to hell. Firstly, the mahi is clearly frozen and highly processed. Fish was obviously freezer burnt, had absolutely no moisture. Tasted and smelled overly-fishy. Not good. Took one small bite, instantly disintegrated like sawdust in my mouth. Gave a piece to my friend and he agreed, inedible. Jerk seasoning was not noticeable at all. All I could taste was bad fish and char. Im not the type of person to send back food, like... Ever. This was an exception. Luckily our waitress was super nice and apologized even though it's not her fault at all. I'm confident that the reason why this place has been open for so long is because of the drinks and appetizers. But this restaurant is in need of a menu restructuring ASAP. The problem was since there was a long long time between the drink order and ordering food the chips were not replenished. Especially since we were a large group ordering dinner plates. I asked the waitress (which was more interested in closing the shop) than tending to us and she said that our food would be right out.. OK, so... no chips... The house margarita I have to admit was excellent! Yummy and not too sweet and the girls enjoy their drinks. The problem here was that the bar closed (even though we weren't even close to finishing our dinners). It was around 9. Hello?!? Is this Milford or Brookline boonies? My wife really enjoyed her fajita salad. I didn't care for my enchiladas at all. It was dry and not very tasty (in fact didn't even finish it). The refried beans were weird. Had the enchiladas de casa. Opted for the 3 enchiladas combo and was stuffed. The machach beef was delicious! The wait for our meal was a bit long but everything is made to order and delicious and with the wait. They even have GF dessert options a flan and a carrot cake that is made in house and sells out. I highly recommend it! They have a great tequila and margarita menu but unfortunately I was driving. Waitstaff is friendly and helpful. read more
