Taking home dinner for my family and me...

Love their dosa and pongal in this town i came to see my cousin 4 minutes from here. I couldn't resist. I called my family I wanted to stop by eat little, pick up for home and take out a lot for this week. Love this place. Except it doesn't say anywhere in this plaza Amma's kitchen

I was excited to try this restaurant after hearing that food is served on banana leaves, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. Although we were seated promptly, the service was highly disorganized. It took nearly 15 minutes before anything was served, and the servers moved unevenly across the tables, starting from one side of the room and slowly making their way over. The sequence of dishes was completely off. We received chutney, vada, pakora, and veg biryani first, but no accompanying curry or bread followed. Later, a server brought sambar and rasam, but when we asked what to eat them with, he seemed unsure and never returned with plain rice. We had to repeatedly ask what items were included in the vegetarian thali, and only then did someone bring cabbage subzi and aloo subzi. Even then, none of the dishes stood out in flavor or quality. Traditional thali service is typically continuous and well-coordinated, with servers ensuring each item is served in order. Unfortunately, this restaurant failed to deliver that experience. Few other things - no signage of restaurant name outside, A/C not working or not on and dirty bathroom.

I am so happy to see that there is now an Indian restaurant in International Drive that specializes in South Indian cuisine. South Indian cuisine differs than North Indian, as it has different types of dishes, and sometimes a bit spicier as well. I looked at their menu from their site, and was very surprised the prices were extremely reasonable. My dad and I did a pickup order. When we arrived to the restaurant, a hostess greeted us and showed us the menu. I ordered a chicken dinner special (about 11 dollars), which included chicken 65, kushka (spiced rice), chicken curry, parotta and raita. I also ordered the vegetarian dinner special (about 10 dollars) for my mom, which had cauliflower 65 and vegetable curry, and the others mentioned previously. Finally, we ordered the breakfast special (6.50), which had 1 idly, 1 vada, 1 dosa and Pongal served with 3 chutneys and Sambar. You can see that the total after taxes was under 30 dollars for a meal, which was a great value. We paid in advance, and sat down in a booth. Within about 15 to 30 minutes later, our hostess came with a bag that had our food. When we got home, we emptied the bag and saw various containers with our food. It was packed quite nicely, and to prevent any leaks. I tried the cauliflower and chicken 65, chicken curry, and the kushka. Even though there was no sauce in the 65, the cauliflower and chicken were seasoned very well to have the authentic Indian flavor. The chicken curry went well with the kushka, both having a medium spice level. That brought great flavors and a little heat without being overbearing. Both of the chicken items had bones, which made the chicken more flavorful, but I did have to be careful I didn't accidentally eat the bones too. I also tried the dosa, vada, idly, and pongal for breakfast, though I didn't take a picture of those. The vada was fried nicely and was soft enough to enjoy. I enjoyed the spices added in the vada. The pongal reminded me of my mom's home cooking. Just comforting for breakfast. The idly was a bit hard than fluffy, but it was still enjoyable after adding some chutney. The dosa was flat and a bit crispy, but I still enjoyed it. I must say this was almost as good as my mom's food, and also the food at our temple. Even my mom and dad enjoyed their food too! Another thing I loved was that they didn't ask for the spiciness level and defaulted to the level that is normally given for the food. Thus, if you only are used to mild level food, then you may find the food here a bit hotter than expected. The service was friendly, attentive, and helpful. The atmosphere almost looks like a hole in the wall for an Indian restaurant with very casual seating. There was a TV showing Indian music video or movie, and the music was Indian hits with another TV showing the name and artist of it. The restaurant is quite small with some tables for eating inside (and it is a full service restaurant), but I don't recall seeing any eating outdoors. Amma's Kitchen is located right next to Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition attraction. Unfortunately, they have not updated the sign, so it is a bit hard to locate (as the previous restaurant looked to be an Italian pizza). For 30 dollars of great quality food that fills you up, this place is a bargain, especially in the touristy I-Drive area. If you are open minded and can handle a bit of spiciness, then you definitely need to give this place a visit. This is the only South Indian restaurant I know in I-Drive area, especially with non vegetarian options. They also offer an all you can eat thali option (20 dollars for veg and 21 for non veg) during the weekends, and we will try that next time we visit. As it is next to the Titanic attraction, so I hope it doesn't hit an iceberg and get ship-wrecked. Hopefully the locals and tourists will give this restaurant a shot, and enjoy the South Indian cuisine! Overall: A

Great tasting South Indian food. Homestyle cooking and the portions are large. Have unique dishes you won't find in many other Indian restaurants in Orlando. We started off by ordering some vada, which was good but on the firmer side and not as fluffy as I would have liked. I had the egg thoku which is fried egg mixed with fried paratha, my friend had rava dosa. Both items were really good. The chutneys that accompanied the dosa and vada were very good. The selection of dosas is quite large. I'll be going back to try out the rest of the menu.

Thali in the forefront and Mysore masala in the back.

Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite live up to expectations. My wife chose the buffet, assuming everything would be freshly prepared at opening time. To our surprise, every single item on the buffet line was cold -- from the rice and chicken dishes to the biryani and palak paneer. If a restaurant opens at 11:30, the food should be hot and ready to serve. Cold curries and rice immediately take away from both texture and flavor, and in this case, the dishes tasted flat and lacked the depth of spices you expect from Indian cuisine. Based on this visit, I would recommend skipping the buffet and ordering from the regular menu instead. Buffet selections often feel like the more economical options, and here they were devoid of the bold flavors that make Indian food so memorable. I ordered the chicken biryani from the à la carte menu. It was noticeably better -- aromatic and more flavorful than the buffet items. However, it still missed an important element. Traditionally, biryani is prepared by marinating the chicken and cooking it together with the rice so the spices infuse the meat and every bite is cohesive. In this case, while the rice carried some fragrance, the chicken itself was not well marinated and tasted bland on its own. It felt more assembled than thoughtfully cooked together. Another important point is pricing. The dishes are on the expensive side, and at those prices, the flavors and overall quality should be excellent. When you're paying premium prices, you expect depth of seasoning, proper preparation, and attention to detail -- not cold buffet trays or under-marinated meat. Service was the bright spot of the visit. The staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout our meal. Overall, not a terrible experience, but certainly disappointing. With better attention to temperature, flavor development, and consistency, this place could justify its pricing -- but on this visit, it fell short.

The consistently high ratings led me here for lunch and I was not disappointed. The interiors are tastefully modern and welcoming, with plenty of seating and pleasant decor. I started off with the mango lassi (4/5) which was delightfully refreshing without being too sweet. For meals, we went with the paneer makhani (4.5/5), chole bhature (5/5), vegetable malabari (5.5), and butter naan (4.5/5). All the meals were delicious and prepared using high quality ingredients, with no weak spots. I'd rank Bombay Street Kitchen among the top 2 Indian restaurants I've been to in the state (most Indian restaurants I've been to in Florida have been pretty underwhelming and average). Happy to round up my overall rating as service (5/5) was quick and friendly. The cheese naan is unlike any paneer naan we have tried before--almost like a cheesy quesadilla. They didn't have Aloo Choley listed, but when we asked, the kitchen put together a version with chickpeas and potatoes that turned out delicious. We ordered the Dal Maharani, and while our waitress asked about spice level, it felt like she made the decision for us. We enjoy spice, but even the first bite was hotter than we expected, and we barely ate any of it despite it being otherwise flavorful. Toward the end, our waitress asked us to leave a review... and then stood there waiting. When my husband said we were still chatting, she kept circling back to check, which felt pretty pushy. Later, when we requested to-go boxes, she said "there is no rush" and then disappeared. We had to ask again. Overall, the food is good and the staff is mostly friendly, but the unexpectedly fiery dal and the slightly overzealous service kept this from being a 5-star experience.

What's even better is that they're happy to offer additional servings if you're still hungry, which makes the experience feel warm and hospitable rather than transactional. Flavor-wise, the food really shines. Each component of the Thali carries its own personality--rich, aromatic, and rooted in tradition.
