Kelly from Australia at the help desk is a GEM, kindly taking the time to educate me on the sweetest vinyl buying lesson. I've barely begun to dip my toe into deep appreciation of physical music mediums, and accompanied my wife here on her birthday search for a few specific vinyls and CDs. My search was narrow, hoping for a Odesza vinyl. I found two vinyls from the A Moment Apart album I was in search for with one being a used copy in a deep sea foam color while the other was a clear vinyl. Because I knew nothing about vinyls, I went to the front desk where Kelly took the time to show me how; 1) properly remove vinyls from their sleeve, 2) the direction to clean vinyls using a microfiber cloth, 3) check downs to go through when inspecting a used vinyl, and 4) in why's behind inspecting vinyls the way she recommended. In taking the time to show me how to check 3 separate clearance vinyls, I felt even more stoked about my Odesza used vinyl find as it was fun colored vinyl not yet in our collection and in beautiful condition. So this is the newer Amoeba in Hollywood. They moved from the original location off Sunset Blvd, think awhile back. But, this location is pretty nice. It's located right across the street from the Metro B Line, so take the transit for super convenience! Walking in, there is security staff that's there that will do a bag check. They also do this when you're leaving the store. The store itself is a nice warehouse of everything you're looking for: music, movies, and merchandise like t-shirts, buttons, even some CD players (not top of the line, but they have them!). Everything is organized at this location - with lots of staff on the floor, restocking and organizing the racks. They have a good selection of everything, but also they don't have everything. I didn't find what I was looking for at my last visit, but it was still nice to browse through the store. They also seem to carry a lot of brand new CDs here. Amoeba's a cool shop if you've never been to one before. It's one of the remaining larger physical music shops left that have tons of music CDs, records, and other awesomeness. read more

This place is awesome! Where else can you find a music shop selling everything from records to random tchotchkes? I loved browsing the shelves to discover cult classic films, music from various genres and countries. There's a wide variety of items, so there's something for everyone! Need CDs for an older car? Check. Hipster with a record player? They've got vinyls. Seeking obscure 90s grunge? They've got it! Magnets for the fridge? Check. I love seeing all the different musical posters. I fell in love with Amoeba the second I walked in the door! I love shopping for vinyls and I was super excited to be in LA and get a chance to visit Amoeba for the first time. There is SOOO much stuff, not just vinyls but tons of collectibles, clothes and all kinds of other gifts. Everything is by genre and really nicely organized. I was able to find 3 vinyls I had been looking for and the prices were great! Awesome store with great BOOK SECTION!!! Was expecting a bunch of vinyls, but they have everything here - CDs, vinyl, band shirts, random merch, and they even have books!!! The book section took me by surprise. It's a small but mighty selection!! They not only have new/used music-related books, but also straight up new/used fiction (I saw Stephen king, Harry Potter, fantasy, murder mystery, manga even!)! I bought a used copy of John and Paul: A Love Story in Songs, since I am a huge Beatles fan. I bought the book "used" but it looked totally new to me! Decent value, although my book was expensive there were many for $5-$10. I'll be back every now and then to check out the selection, now that I know about this awesome store! read more

I could spend hours here every time I come here. if you buy something you get free parking for 70-ish minutes. Sometimes they have free shows or album previews here. Amoeba Music is up there as one of the best and most extensive record shops not just in California, but America! This spot is located right in the heart of the Hollywood area where there is a nearby parking garage that validates with a purchase or street parking all around the area. Inside, they have a massive setup with records organized nicely by genre. Wifey and I spent a while perusing around and found so many gems that we have not seen at other shops. I ended up getting a Dijon, Clairo, Gunna, Bryson Tiller, and Majid Jordan vinyl and let my wallet take the damage. Overall, we really enjoyed our time crate digging here. They have such a large collection at affordable prices as well. All of the staff here are friendly and welcoming. This place is a vintage music collector's mecca!!! You will find lots of vinyl and cd's of different genres. They have imports, singles, and live versions of music. There are also stickers, shirts, hats, posters and various other band/ movie merch. Some of the posters are original and are a little pricier. I came away with a vinyl of The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance, which is a band that my younger son has recently exposed me to. We are definitely going back for more!!! read more

I do not have a record player or a cd player or anything anymore but I wanted to go in to see this place. Let me tell you, it has everything you can think of when it comes to records, cd, dvd, tapes, etc. They have a lot of clearance items and the prices are pretty good considering a lot of the items are valuable. I frequent LA a lot and Amoeba records is definitely one of those places that has become my home away from home. I've been a patron for many,many ,many years ( I do miss their old location ) and whenever I have family & friends in town, this is always on the top of my list to bring them. I'm very old school (I don't even have social media) and nostalgic, so I thoroughly enjoy listening to my music on vinyl, cassette tapes and watching movies on VHS. Amoeba has all this ready and organized, with even hard to find pressings. The store is huge, with a great ever changing inventory! Collectibles, clothing, books, posters, turntables, etc., they legit have it ALL! Sometimes they host listening parties or have a DJ spinning occasionally. Check their website for the latest news. Even if you don't buy anything, it's a great place to walk around and look at things. I personally have never left empty handed. Here are some key points when visiting: * Parking garage available on Argyle St. (half a block south from Amoeba). If you make a purchase, make sure you give the cashier your cell # to get a parking validation code good for 75 minutes! * NO public restrooms! * Store is handicap accessible and pet friendly. * Security at the door that you must check in all large bags, no exceptions. * If you are there to sell, check in at the front counter and they will call your name over the speaker when they are ready for you. * Cool photo booth in the corner is a must! * Rare pressings & collectibles are high up on the poles or in casing's, hit up the information counter and staff will grab it for you and hold it at the front checkouts when you're ready. * Small 2nd story has books and posters. Wheelchair lift available. * Don't forget to crate dig under the counters also, they have so much inventory they can't fit it all. * Staff is super chill and very helpful, if you can't find what you're looking for stop and ask the information counter. * Always long lines to check out, but it does move quickly. Now they won't hand you your purchase at the counter. They greet you back at the entrance and hand it to you to avoid anyone with sticky fingers (if you know what I mean). I miss the old location but this location has grown on me! I came to pick up The Weeknd's new "Hurry Up Tomorrow" 2LP and I was able to find it quickly on the main aisle under New Releases section and also in R&B section. I also happen to realized that my all time favorite DJ Avicii also released a special vinyl so I picked it up as well. Not only new releases but also they have a huge used section of vinyls, CDs, DVDs and more! Staff is super helpful and friendly! I had called earlier to check availability and they were quick to check their inventory. Parking garage available a few blocks down and if you purchase you'll be able validate for free. Just don't forget to give your phone number at the register and you'll get a text message with a QR code. This place never gets old. I've been coming here for years dating back to the old location. Music, movies, books, memorabilia merchandise is what you will find here. It's an outlet where you can find almost anything. If not new you can find it used. Depending on what you are looking for price could be steep or you can make out like a bandit with a bundle of items at a low price. I would bring my sons with me on my Amoeba adventures when they were younger. Fast forward a few years later and now I'm joining them on their adventures here. Amoeba Music is an absolute classic and still one of the best record stores around. Huge selection across vinyl, CDs, movies, and merch--you can easily lose an hour just browsing. Staff is knowledgeable and the vibe is exactly what you'd hope for from an iconic music spot. Only reason for four stars instead of five is that some used vinyl prices felt a bit high compared to other shops, and it can get pretty busy at peak times. 8pm. Security was forceful clearing the isles at 8pm. Jokes were made at the customers expense over the loud speaker because multiple staff wanted to leave rather than service the customer. I wish I could have recorded it. Because of your success and huge selection you're ego is way out of control: Most businesses give 15 minutes for people to complete their shopping. I think customers Need to protest Amoeba with the news there and publicly. Security, management and most staff really need to be taught a peaceful and non-violent lesson. Customers need to organize and do an in-store sit in till 8;15. Arrests welcome. Maybe the overpricing of vinyl will be next. read more

As a Brown Indigenous person, I am tired of being followed while shopping in stores. Today was yet another example of this happening. I was followed throughout the entire store, which made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. It was difficult to shop because I constantly felt like I was being watched. When I went to purchase my items, I was stopped because my bag allegedly triggered the alarm due to my keys. The way I was treated made me feel like I was being viewed as a thief rather than a paying customer. The entire experience was humiliating and degrading. I will not be returning to this store. I believe I was racially profiled, and I intend to file a formal complaint. I also plan to contact the store's owners to report my experience and the conduct of the employee at the front door--the man with the beard who was checking customers as they exited. Customers should not be made to feel targeted or discriminated against because of the color of their skin. read more

Great (new) location half a block off the red line hollywood and vine. HUGE store with every king of music you can think of. Good selection of band shirts. From hip hop to metal, they got it. They sell LOTS of merchandise, I purchased beatles coffee mugs and they were on $13 a pop. The service is friendly and provide quick checkout within minutes. read more

NOSTALGIA!!! I have been going to Amoeba Music in my early 20's up until now. That is almost 3 plus decades ago! I started going to Amoeba when they were still in their old building which I loved and missed so much. I have been to their new building only twice. Since I have been living and working in Hollywood, it was A LOT more convenient for me to go there and shop for whatever, whoever I needed to get my hands on!:-) meaning artists, bands.. I also have a smaller version of the store in my own house. Music, movies etc....Anyway.... at Amoeba, you can't get bored, time flies, because it kind of feels like you are in Disneyland. So much to do, so many things to explore. That goes for both: adults and kids and even teens. They have everything for everyone. Affordable prices on used and new items. Sometimes, I get used items, and sometimes new. Depending what am I purchasing. This lovely, BIG store has everything. I am going to start naming more than few things: CD'S, DVD'S, BOOKS, WALL PLAQUES with celebrity faces on it. Same goes for cute, round, small BUTTONS that you can wear on your clothes. VINYLS, MUGS, T-SHIRTS with the pictures/names of the bands/artists that you like. I have at least 7 of them. And the rest I bought at their concerts. CARDS, POSTERS, CANDLES, STICKERS, HATS, MOVIES for kids and adults, Even DVD's of old TV sitcoms. GAMES, LUNCH BOXES and much more.... Parking is couple of blocks down. Don't forget to validate. Customer service is TOP NOTCH!! And by me saying that, the employees of Amoeba are never lazy to help you out for what you are looking for. They will stop everything and willingly want to help you out with their professional, kind, attentive, friendly helpful self. They will literally walk you towards the isles to find the items that you are looking for. That not only makes the customer feel good and happy, but also the employee that was able to help you out with what you are/were looking for!!:-)) Let me not forget to mention that sometimes, they will have guest appearances by certain artists/band members to go and play for like 20 to 30 minutes of music to promote their new work/music. Which is kind of cool, short, free concert! I have been to 2. In the old building. They also have/had coupons that you could get a dollar or two off on new items. The list can go on and on and ON!! Store is ALWAYS CLEAN, well ORGANIZED, and employees are always walking around and rearranging things to make sure everything is in the right order under the right letter/label. Let's not forget to mention that whenever you call them, they ANSWER THE PHONE, put you on hold and help you by checking with what you are looking for and get back to you within less than 4 minutes. Records were actually priced very well compared to other record stores I've been to in the area, and in the IE. You could spend a whole day or week looking at everything this place has to offer. I used to adore Amoeba music at the old location, and was pretty sure I'd love the new location! But something happened. The old Amoeba had great prices and a GREAT selection (at least when it came to horror movies and rock n roll). This new location though falls very short. I'm a horror lover. I always bring lists to Amoeba. I no longer walk out with anything on my list. The selection is all very much, read that as you can find Child's Play but not Cannibal Holocaust, the remake of IT over the mini series. The selection seems to be more geared towards what's popular, which I do understand, but there are no more gems. No titles that get people excited. For the selection, Wal-Mart has better titles and better prices. The selection of rock n roll (Rammstein, Ozzy (before he passed), Alice Cooper, and Black Sabbath, so nothing weird) is lacking. Again. I didn't have to go all the way to Hollywood to find the selection they had. The employees. Never had a rude one or a mean one. They aren't as knowledgeable (or at least the ones I got) and seem a little bored. But they aren't like employees are probably the best thing about the new Amoeba, and are what made this place three stars rather than two. read more

Just wanted to update. So I went in to sell some funkos and an amiibo and a star wars action figure all in good clean condition about total of 9 items all together. Ameoba tried to lowball me for all my Funkos and amiibo for 30 dollars. I'm not that desperate for cash so I said no and the staff wasn't rude atleast but the amiibo is selling for 45 bucks alone on eBay and the Funkos are worth about 10 bucks each on eBay and the Star Wars action figure is worth about 35 bucks on eBay so I don't know who's doing the the math at Ameoba but it definitely isn't correct and I can guarantee they are ripping off hundreds of people. So please people beware of getting scammed at Ameoba! Also wanted to add the old Ameoba was way better! After checking in to our hotel, we went for a little walk and I was surprised/excited to discover we were just around the corner from the legendary Amoeba Music. I'd been seeing the place lately in videos with celebrities talking about music and movies they loved, so I was excited to check the place out for myself. And indeed, it's an incredible place. They've got a massive selection of virtually every format of music, and also a whole bunch of other things too. I went to peruse their book selection and wound up grabbing a vintage Raymond Chandler novel for a very reasonable price.
