I thought that I should look around inside... Wow... It has everything... jazz, top 40, soul, hip hop, ethnic music, CDs, vinyl, movies, used, new, merchandise, and more! I was truthfully overwhelmed. I will be back when I'm more focused and have more time! Note: Amoeba Music is also in San Francisco and Berkeley.

The owner clearly loves BTS and was so much fun to talk to! He even explained how the clothing cuts and sizing differ between the BTS Korea and Japan tour merchandise. And BTW--they told me they're getting BTS Japan tour merch next week!!!!!! They also carry merchandise and albums from other K-pop groups, and I thought the prices were very reasonable. They mostly offer new releases (trust me, with a variety of versions) and a few throwback albums (from the late 2010s / early 2020s). Their location on the other end of the hall (next to 그녀 샵 [Geu Nyeo Shop]) has an extensive selection of posters, lightsticks and a few souvenirs. Being a kpop stan on budget seems like an oxymoron, however I made it possible by focusing on posters during my first visit. Their posters are placed on shoebox like shelves and are labeled according to group/artist. Here's my tip upon selecting posters: be sure to read the labels above the barcode. It tells you the poster's name. However, if you'd like a sneak peek of what the poster looks like, you may search on Google or Choice Music's website to see an actual preview. Take your sweet time, as long as it's not as busy and/or if you're determined to get the poster(s) that you want. Some posters (for example Seventeen) have dedicated ones per unit (vocal, performance, hip hop) and some have all members in one poster. Surprisingly, all of my 3 posters were on sale that day. I found some titles I had been looking for recently. Yeah, I could have ordered them from somewhere online, but I want to support local shops because it helps keep the community going. There was such a large selection of genres, many that were new to me. I love being able to browse physical music again. I have found that slowing down and listening intentionally makes me appreciate the artists more. I keep hearing new things in songs that I have missed before. The condition isn't the best, they also need to put prices on everything. I picked up lots of items with no stickers on so you give up, especially since the prices at Nivessa are so high! I am glad they opened, but I hope things will improve here.

There's classic porn from the 70s, 80s and 90s. There are Criterion discs. There are John Huston movies, Godard movies, Wim Wenders and David Lynch. Dario Argento horror movies. Sci-fi. Pre Sci-fi. Post Sci-fi. Brazilian. African. Silent films... I could go on and on. If you are looking for an obscure out of print classic film that's not on streaming, there's an 80% chance that you can find it here to rent. There is street parking nearby. The problem? I live in OC and this place is in Mount Washington/Montecito Heights. So if I move down there, I'll be renting some unheard of movies, that's for sure!

To say I'm diggin' this place would be an understatement. I first noticed The Record Parlour when walking down the street on my way to the Farmer's Market. It looked crazy rad from the outside and I knew instantly that I would be dropping by. I checked them out online and went in for the first time today. I can honestly say that these reviews are pretty much spot on. The vibe in the store is amazing, very chill, retro, almost bohemian. Their selection is amazing. I had a time constraint when I went in but I can totally see spending several hours just sifting through records and that's exactly what I'm going to do next time. Another plus is the fact that the owner seems really cool and sociable, not pretentious, standoffish, or too busy/apathetic to take an interest in customers or talk to you. And did I mention the prices? They're wicked good, especially compared to some of the other music stores. They also seem to have some really cool events going on that I'm itching to check out. So yeah, epic selection, extremely affordable prices, awesome atmosphere, and friendly staff--what's not to love? Seriously, take some time to drop in, you'll be very happy you did. I see a lot of reviews pertaining to the store in general, their selection, the employees, etc. This place is rocking on all of those fronts, but I wanted to say something about the live music they have since I haven't really seen anyone mentioning that. When I first checked the Record Parlour out I was immediately impressed by their selection and I really dug the vibe. It's very relaxed and I can totally see spending several hours combing through records and it'd be hard not to blow a sizeable amount of my paycheck on them. The owner is really awesome, very personable, and he actually hipped me to the fact that the store hosts free live music performances and that there was an upcoming one on the horizon. I went, and the event definitely made me love the Record Parlour even more. Both artists were really good, there were good drinks, a nice amount of people, and it had a lot of the cool stuff you'd expect from a traditional concert, but FREE. Bottom-line: I would highly recommend this place and everyone should check out the live shows they host. It's a great way to spend an evening. read more

Wanted to update my previous review of the Record Parlour. My previous experience with this shop had been entirely through their Instagram live shows. I recently got the opportunity to visit the store in person and the experience is much the same in person as it is online. The folks who work here are very knowledgeable and more importantly, cool people who you are glad to do business with. These are great guys. It was great to have the opportunity to dig through the records in person and see the depth of quality records they gave on hand. I found some gems I'd had my eyes on for years but never came across in other stores. And in the end, as I will say about any record store review, the key element of any shop is if they have records you will want to buy. Great place for tourist who don't know any better. If you are looking for selection, great prices and a great day out just head down to Long Beach and it's many quality record stores. Heck you can make it a day trip! Grab a beer in one of the may craft bars and explore their great record shops (all within 3 miles of one another.) I will not be going back, prices and variety are outrageous. For example, I picked up Magical Mistery Tour by The Beatles for $5 in Third Eye Records in Long Beach. Here it was $20 in sub-par quality!?!? Make the drive. Spend the money on gas and a beer instead. read more

One of my aunts came here and told me I should visit this place in Hollywood and me loving music I had to take a look and once I walked in it was heaven there were over thousands of records I was in love so of course I had to come back then my aunt said she saw what they were gonna do today on Facebook and once I heard I couldn't believe it 100 records for $20 that's crazy so now I'm here waiting in this long line but it's so worth it so if I love music I highly highly recommend you come here and get yourself some records read more

Way overpriced! I made a comment I felt gouged and the owner or manager was super defensive to the point he told me to never come back making me feel guilty saying my opinion. Thus, it is your one stop shop for when you want to grab that special piece of music. The staff here are all really nice. So if you need any help, they'll be happy to help you out. Overall, this is one of those dying breeds of shops, one that offers a grand selection of vinyl. Some cool record finds I came across for my music taste were Pop Smoke, Big Sean, Tame Impala, Kehlani, and Thee Sacred Souls. The records here are fairly priced and the staff are friendly and welcoming. I ended up copping the 75th Anniversary Sailor Moon vinyl for wifey since it was a record she had been chasing and one we do not see in the wild often. Definitely come check them out if you are ever in the area!

UPDATE OF MY ORIGINAL REVIEW: After what started out to be a positive experience, I'm left with a…read morevery negative feeling about this place. IN A LARGE NUTSHELL: I originally called to see if ATRT carried a specific pressing of an artist/album and they did. I purchased that album plus four others. Played all of the albums BUT the specific album I needed - which was the most expensive - was literally unplayable. Contacted owner Kevin and he started making up store policies: claimed the invoice states it allows for only a 50% refund (it doesn't); then stated while he wouldn't refund me, he would try to locate another copy of the album which would probably have a later pressing/label & that I needed to be okay with that since it contained all of the same songs as the original pressing. (I wanted the original release, I paid for the original release, I expected the original release - not a later reissue on a different label - this shouldn't be difficult for any collector to comprehend.) Kevin attempted to bully me by repeatedly cutting me off with his confrontational, condescending, argumentative and arrogant tone which, honestly, was shocking, to say the least. Eventually he admitted he doesn't listen to the albums while simultaneously claiming them to be in great condition - after much back and forth, he finally agreed to reimburse me for the defective album. (It's as though he's great to talk to if you agree with everything he says but if he feels challenged, he takes it as a threat?????) I understand not being able to listen to thousands of albums to check their usability but if they don't work & he doesn't want to provide an in-store opportunity for customers to test them, do the honest thing. Also, post your lack-of-return-policy-of-the-moment so customers know in advance what they're settling for - NOTE: they have you sign the receipt after paying AND keep talking to you while signing so you simply think you're signing for receipt of merchandise - if there's a no-return clause or a partial refund clause, you won't know that. As I stated to Kevin over the phone, I'm not mad or angry about the hostile way he treated me, I'm actually sad - what could have been a pretty darn good experience with a local small business turned out to be a pretty awful one. MY MISTAKE - I should have read other reviews BEFORE visiting because there are wildly differing opinions on this place and all seem legit - the good and the bad. My first review was great and as you can see, that soured pretty frickin' quickly. It doesn't take much to be decent and honest - especially if you'd like to keep customers who are happy to share their experiences with others.
