What a rad record store! I wandered in on a Friday morning after going to a concert at The Fonda Theater the night before. What a huge selection of new and used vinyl, CDs, and cassettes! I found some titles I had been looking for recently. Yeah, I could have ordered them from somewhere online, but I want to support local shops because it helps keep the community going. There was such a large selection of genres, many that were new to me. I love being able to browse physical music again. I have found that slowing down and listening intentionally makes me appreciate the artists more. I keep hearing new things in songs that I have missed before. It's great to see a new record store on Hollywood Blvd. these days. It's been opened for a year (at least) at this location and it has a bigger location on Pico. I noticed it, but never went inside to check it out till recently. I like that it stays opened till late, some places close too early (I am sure it's a financial thing). Customer here is nice. The selection is just OK.. A few issues: the stores needs to be cleaner and better organized. They have records, books, CD-s, DVD-s, VHS. The condition isn't the best, they also need to put prices on everything. I picked up lots of items with no stickers on so you give up, especially since the prices at Nivessa are so high! As a collector, I love walking into a store and always seeing a variety of items I can browse through, however, making deals with this store is nearly impossible. Although the store website advertises premiums on previous offers, nearly any in store visit for me has proved unsuccessful in deals, as the offers I've received on premium collectibles have been nearly 10X less than what their value is. Today I took the Hollywood store a bunch of sealed collectibles, including Funko Pops, Sealed Action Figures, a few pre-owned video games, and hoped maybe this time around, they'd do a bit of research and give genuine sensible offers. In figures both retailing, and reselling above $35 right now, I was offered $3.50 for, and $1 per Funko. It's safe to say I packed up my things and walked away, having wasted time, gas, and meter parking on the street, again. The store needs genuine love and care. Every employee that has previously seen my collections and sent it to the owner for a valuation has seen the value in the items, and felt the same disappointment that I have with each offer made. It's a nice store, nice location, cool items throughout if you feel like digging through categorized disorganized items. Super good vibes here! I went to Nivessa in Hollywood for the music of Vince Guaraldi and the 75th anniversary of Peanuts. The two guys that were working were friendly, helpful and just really cool. Incredible sound system in the store!! Also, a ton of great albums, cds, magazines, books, etc. Nice to see a store like this doing well in the heart of Hollywood! read more

While walking back from shopping at a small used vinyl shop down the street, I came across Nivessa. Always happy to support small, local businesses, I was hopeful they might have a record or two I'd be interested in. The people were very nice and unobtrusive, so the service wasn't the issue. It was the way the albums were jam packed into the bins. I mean, they were so tight that the top part of the albums were slightly bent forward while the bottom part in the bins were super-squeezed in. Oh how I hated seeing vinyl being damaged like this and knew there was no way I could consider buying from this place. Sadly this is not the place to find quality used vinyl. read more

Had a good selection, however one of the most expensive record stores I've been to for plain cds and records, which was expected since its LA, but not when the cds were in horrible condition and going for $12 at the least. Not to mention when I opened 3 different used CDS, all priced at $11 or above, one of them was a custom burnt one someone had made to give to a friend. All 3 of them were scratched to hell and looked pretty unplayable. 1 even had gunk on it. Makes me think that they dont even check the CDS before reselling. My small local record store always checks the quality of items and makes sure to clean them all, I feel like thats pretty bare minimum. Also kind of annoying that they wouldn't accept cash on a $120 purchase. Besides that they had a good atmosphere and the interior was nice. The vinyls here are a much safer bet. read more

I've been to Nivessa a handful of times. Overall, I've found it underwhelming & very messy--records poorly cared for, bins overflowing & askew, everything out of order. The "new used" arrivals do not offer much--nothing rare or surprising buried in the bins. There's a noticeable emphasis on old action figures, VHS tapes & other ephemera. Reminds me of those Denver "record" shops that sell blacklight posters and bongs up front--not what a dedicated collector is looking for. Wall records are oddly chosen & overpriced. Saw a new copy of Premiers Symptômes by Air listed at $90--it's still in print & goes for around $40. That kind of markup feels like a breach of trust, as if the store's banking on buyers not knowing any better. There are also a lot of signed wall records going for high prices. Maybe they're authentic--I didn't ask. Not why I collect. That part of the store seems geared toward tourists rather than collectors. The staff seem nice enough, but not particularly engaging or knowledgeable regarding the rarity of records/pressings/etc. Compared to shops in Highland Park, Atwater, or Pasadena--places run by collectors, often musicians--it pales. I wish Nivessa all the best, but my last visit will be my last. It is not for me. read more

Great place with tons of potential! The owners seem really cool playing music I just happened to love, and they gave me great trade on the vinyl I brought in. They have some work to do because they're just getting started, but they have a stage in there, plenty of room, have hosted at least one cool collaboration of hip hop superstars. The worst record store I've ever been too. Prices are outrageous. Something I can get at amoeba or record parlour for $15-20 is $80+ here. Condition on most records in the bins are beat to hell with ring wear, scratches, warps, etc. Everything in the shop looks like it was picked up at goodwill. Do not waste your time here if you are looking for quality records. Go to 'record parlour' or 'as the record turns' down the street instead. read more

One of the worst "record" stores I've ever been too. As a record collector you look for honesty, integrity, and respect from buying records. This place has none. The records are absurdly over priced to the point I thought it was a joke. The grading is completely off. I saw records here graded as VG+ with heavy jacket wear (to the point pieces of the cover were missing) and an extremely scratched LP (so deep that it's sure to skip). I even saw a Doors record (new re-issue that the owner thinks is an original) that was priced at $90. I can walk to Amoeba and buy that same pressing for $20. Whoever prices the records (I'm assuming the owner) has no idea what they are doing. Honestly I don't think they even know anything about vinyl or record collectors in general. This place is strategically located in a shitty part of Hollywood so they get in naive kids who don't know what they're buying and think it's cool to shop in Hollywood (taking advantage of them). Not to mention tweakers and homeless sitting out front. In any case: to the owner of the shop, re-evaluate your inventory and lower your prices. You have trash records and you know it. This place will go out of business in less than 3 years. I cannot vouch for the pico location as I have not been but if this location is any indication of how that one is run, you need to get into a different business. read more
