Very neighborhoody Mexican restaurant. They have a very large patio so I can see this being a great spot for the summer months. We came when it was still cold but would definitely look to come back when the weather is nicer. Menu has a solid selection of classics, and a wider taco menu. We opted for the carne asada which was flavorful but rather overcooked. The shrimp smothered burrito was pretty bland despite being covered in sauce, but was a very generous portion for the price. Excellent and fat margaritas. Service was attentive although it became a bit slow after the place got more filled up for lunch. They were slightly understaffed with only one waitstaff. We were really looking forward to a nice meal and drinks, but unfortunately left disappointed and still hungry. We were seated right away, which was great, but our server never acknowledged us. He took drink orders from two women who arrived after us, and then another couple who came in later, while we continued to wait without even getting water. They got rid of the molcajete dish which was the one thing I really liked and which I thought distinguished it from other places. Too bad. The management is also inconsistent -- they do put on an attitude at times. We were also subjected to surly and snippy service a couple times, and I was starting to feel affronted until I saw that the server was the same way with other guests, phew (haha). The food is good, above average, and the patio is well situated so they get very busy when it's nice out, but they nickel and dime you for everything, and give you the upsell. Like, when you order chips and salsa (free at other places), and they say, well, it's better with guac and you say OK because who doesn't love guac, then you get the bill and see the $14 upcharge and realize you've just paid $18 for guac & chips & salsa. I came here with a group of 4 and we were seating outside in the patio area on a nice end of summer day. Immediately noticed how sweet the atmosphere here - from the painted walls, the unique door we walked through, to the tableware designs. We all agreed it was such a lovely spot. I can't drink alcohol currently and they were able to make me a refreshing fruity mocktail to enjoy. My friends had a margarita, a sangria, and a version of a Bloody Mary. We all ended up getting the burrito, with different flavors. I loved the grilled chicken option and even had a whole half left over for the following day. Can't believe I haven't written a review for this yet and I have been here twice already. My first time here I was able to sit in their outdoor patio which was a perfect setting. It was spacious and perfect for groups. Service was a little slow at that time and we didn't get our food for a long time. Turns out we were forgotten. However, our server did get us a couple of free drinks due to the inconvenience so we were ok. Plus, I was with 2 of my besties so we were just chatting away anyway and the drinks were good. 2nd time around I came in the fall and it was too cold to be outside but we did have reservations for 2. We came on time but from the looks of it, all the inside tables were still taken, so we just opted to sit at the bar as we didn't feel like waiting. The bartender was pretty nice and attentive so we didn't mind it. During both times my group ordered and shared the molcajetes. It says it's good for 2, but there is so much food in there that it can be good for 4 people actually! Molcajete is a fajita like dish, it comes with steak, cheese, veggies, and warm tortillas. You will run out of tortillas as there is so much meat but you can always request more. I highly recommend this dish as its tasty, filling, and a great price for all that food. Overall, a nice little local gem with good food and good drinks. Great spot if you are craving some good Mexican food and tasty drinks! My friends and I sat on their patio for over 45 minutes and never had a server greet us. They very clearly saw us and avoided us after water was dropped off by the busser. I can understand a restaurant being busy, I worked in a few, but to very obviously avoid a table instead of stopping by to say hello or take a drink order is not okay. Went here with friends on a recommendation, and it was fine. I know that sounds bad, but I honestly think it was just fine not better or worse. We had a party of 7 and were seated outside at their patio which was nice. We ordered drinks I had the Seeley margarita it was good, and everyone else tried the different varieties all decent. We ordered chips and salsa and guacamole too. The salsa was good with a bit of a kick which I like, but the guacamole was a bit bland for my taste. After that we did not see our waiter for awhile. He said he had a big party coming in so it would help if we ordered soon, but then disappeared. Didn't make sense, but whatever. The menu is not very big especially for a Mexican restaurant, so I figured that they focused on a few things they did very well. Eventually I ordered the fajitas, and was not impressed. The chicken pieces were large and didn't fit into the tortillas well, and the flavor was just okay. The portion size was big, but overall taste was not what I hoped for. Second time here, first time eating in. We sat outside on the patio at for a late lunch. It's very cute, fenced in and private but not claustrophobic. We started with chips and guac. They also brought some pico and, upon request, a couple salsas. We liked the spicy green. We barely made a dent in those, they provided a lot, enough for 4-6 people. We each had a drink. Both with a little Tajin on the rim, and both delicious. For the entree, I had a two tacos, shrimp and pastor. Loved them both and they were larger than I expected. Two was plenty. Amor y Tequila has become our go to neighborhood Mexican place as we live right down the block. The menu is fairly standard with the usual tacos, burritos, etc. but what we keep coming back for is the tres carnes molcajetes: a steaming stone bowl full of fajita-style peppers and beans in a sort of stew, perfectly cooked skirt steak, chicken, shrimp, and a huge hunk of cheese, served with tortillas, more beans, and rice. It's massive and delicious and can easily feed four with a couple appetizers or two people alone with leftovers for lunch the next day. Yum. The patio is delightful in the summer. Great service/friendly staff. Everything came out timely and fresh/hot. The food and drinks were delicious. We tried a variety of items. The steak was very good. It is a smaller size restaurant in the winter months (larger in the summer when the patio is open). Parking is easy in and around the neighborhood. It was a little cold inside if you sit by the door in the winter which is where half the tables are (bring a sweater!). Great for a group of 2-6. I came here just before 6pm on a Thursday and the place was PACKED. No seating available outside, and the indoor seating quickly filled up by 6:30. I sat at the bar since I was meeting a friend for a few drinks, and we had great and friendly service from our bartender. Everything was completely mid and low flavor besides the carne asada. We got guac, salsa, and queso chorizo as starters, everything was just okay. The food here was fine. I can't put my finger in exactly what was missing, but everything was just fine. Don't avoid it, but don't go out of your way. We tried 3 tacos: Pastor taco had large chunks of well seasoned meat. I think the shrimp had the potential to be the best because the flavors on that were nice, but it was cold and a bit soggy. The steak taco had good quality meat but needed the addition of salt or the pico. The rice was essentially mush, the refried beans had an unbalanced flavor (lots of salt and cumin I think). The chorizo queso was bland. Chips were warm and the pico perfectly spicy. Margaritas started very strong, and got better as the ice melted. The staff really hustled and were great, but they simply were understaffed (Tuesday night with a 2 hour wait at 7pm!). I enjoyed my time at Amor y Tequila recently. My fiancé and I live in the neighborhood and decided to check this place out on a Saturday night. We didn't have a reservation, so we grabbed a seat at the bar. This place is small inside, so I recommend making a reservation or being OK with sitting at the bar as they were fully booked for the night. It is decorated really well and is an inviting space. To start, they offered us a free cup of chicken noodle soup. It was delicious and we appreciated the gesture. All of their cocktails are named after streets in Roscoe Village- how cute is that?! I tried the Claremont (tequila, lime juice, and fresh strawberries) while my fiancée ordered the Hamilton (mezcal, lime juice, basil). Their drinks come with a spicy rim, which I'm not a fan of so I'm glad the bartender asked for my preference that way I could go with salt instead. The Claremont was delicious; but the Hamilton was really really bad. It was so sour and just tasted like lime juice. Definitely not proper proportions. For food, we ordered the chips and salsa - the pico was good - but I wish it came with homemade chips especially since there was a charge for chips and salsa as most Mexican restaurants typically give for free while dining in. We then ordered the Tres Carnes molcajetes which included shrimp; steak; and chicken as well as beans, veggies, and tortilla. The proportions were a bit off on this too- only 4 tortillas (there was a lot of food); plentiful in the meats and beans, but definitely not enough veggies. Service was a bit slow too, there was only one bartender and one server in the whole place. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here. They have a few kinks to work on, but I think that's common for a new place, especially operating during Covid. I also can't wait until spring so I can enjoy their patio. It's beautiful. read more

Thanks to Amor y Tequila I was able to plan the perfect wedding anniversary date for us and our toddler. Them and it being the Retro on Roscoe street fest that day. Their patio is first come first serve, so as soon as we got into the fest I beelined it here and put our name in. They said it was moving surprisingly fast so we only waited 20 minutes or so to get texted to come back. As we were getting seated, "The Boy Band Night" cover band was setting up at a stage just across the street from the patio. We ordered some drinks, and thus were set up for a night of singing, laughing, and good eats. I will say it took a long while for food to come out, but I'll chalk that up to the festival bringing more people than normal to the area, and the drinks and guac helped tide us over. For our little guy we got him the kids quesadilla, and we ordered the tres carnes molcajete to share. It's a bit pricy, but it's meant for 2-3 people and we had enough for dinner the next night. And hey, it's our anniversary! Eventually we got our molcajete - a giant bowl filled with beans, steak, chicken, shrimp and cheese. We also got four tortillas with it, which is kind of a small amount for us two. It was very generous with the shrimp, and the steak was cooked perfectly (wish we had some more of that in there). Still, overall it made for a perfect night, along with me drunkenly singing along to BSB and *NSYNC songs. I see why the patio is a hot spot for the neighborhood, even when there isn't old school music blasting in the background. Will come back in the future and try some more of their menu. read more

There is live mariachi music every Thursday for 2 hours! So fun! The food and my margarita was great too! The ceviche and street corn were great way to start the evening. The street corn can be served on or off the Cobb. I had the Al pastor burrito and just for S&G's had an order of fries with it.
