This was our first time here and it was a fun time! We were able to get prime reservations for a Saturday night. We opted for their cookie decorating and cocktails. It was about $40/ per person after fees. This included a shot, a cocktail and some hard cookies that came with sprinkles and icing. We definitely had enough cookies to go around! I went here yesterday (Friday) and had a great time. It was a very fun bar with two bowling lanes. My friends and I enjoyed the cocktail wheel which came with 8 total drinks- 4 cocktails, 2 of each, and each was 2oz. It was overpriced because of the spectacle, but it was fine for a one-time thing. The carousel actually spun and was lit up with fairy lights. We also ordered a regular milkshake and some boozy milkshakes which were delicious. I opted for the cereal killer without alcohol. Prepare to induce diabetes! First timer here!! I love the idea and the theme of this place. I think it's a great time forsure. I made a reservation to bowl on a Sunday and wanted to have a few fun drinks. The drinks were completely on point and LOVED them. I got an Oreo shake and the Millionare drink. SO GOOD. Bowling was fun until the balls CONSTANTLY were not coming back to us. The machine must be very old and we had to keep asking the bartenders to push the balls back. It got so bad that after each turn we had to call them. To reserve bowling it was $50. So it's not a bad pride but 50 is 50 and I wanted to enjoy my entire time reserved. I'm not sure if this is something that always happens but that isn't right. It definitely needs repairing or to be updated. There was a group playing next to us that left in the middle of their game because it was completely killing the vibe. This place was SO cute! We caught it on it's last night all decorated as tinseltown for the holidays so it was a fun Christmasy vibe. When we walked in the staff immediately greeted us showed us to a table. All of the staff was extremely friendly and attentive the entire time we were there. My friend and I were in town visiting our friend that lives in Chicago. Our one friend made the mistake of saying she'd never had Malort before so of course the bartender rectified that for her! We each got a fun cocktail and enjoyed the atmosphere. We had considered reserving a bowling lane but we opted not to. Honestly we had a lot of fun just hanging out, chatting and people watching. We made reservations for the tinsel town cookie decorating. When we arrived we were met by a man who appeared to be very stressed and not friendly at all. Unfortunately all but 6 cookies were broken. The server was great. As we decorated and socialized, I noted the same guy was greeting people at the door (and tending bar and ordering staff around) and increasingly appeared angry/annoyed with customers. A party had arrived late and the guy "yelled" at them and I felt it wasn't necessary. It seemed odd and uncomfortable for customers and staff. We ordered ice cream drinks and waited approximately 30 minutes and saw them sitting on the bar for about 15-20 minutes. We were told we needed to vacate the table for the next reservations, (completely understandable) so we moved to the bar, then waited another 10 minutes for our ice cream drinks. They shorted us a drink, but we told the server that it was ok and we didn't want the other one. We finished our drinks and waited another 15 minutes. The server then brought us the last drink but we told him, we said we didn't want it because we were all finished with our drinks. Then we waited another 10 minutes and our original server tried to deliver the last drink. Once again we told her it was too late and we just wanted to pay the bill. Needless to say, it was a bit chaotic and the service wasn't the best but it was probably due to the event and lack of communication and organization. I felt bad for the staff. Overall, the event was cute, the place looked amazing, the drinks were really tasty, so I don't want to give a BAD review but we left the place stressed. The drinks were about average but you could literally wait 20+ mins to get one (I don't rec the margarita, not good but HIGHLY recommend the Pink Lady). The decorations were really cool. It was a very fun experience. It's a vintage-inspired bar. If you have ever seen Cinderella Story with Hillary Duff, it reminded me of that diner that she worked at. We went right after Christmas on a Thursday night. They went all out. There were decorations everywhere. It was a really cool environment. There were couples making gingerbread houses. Bowling was fun. We just had to wait a couple minutes for the people playing before us to wrap up. There were a couple times when the balls didn't come back or the pins got stuck (I am guessing it's because it's an old vintage machine). After hearing about this place for months, I finally made it. I thought it was cool to see some of my family gathering classics on the menu such as a Brandy Alexander and Grasshopper. I've watched my parents coach plenty of bartenders on how to make those drinks, so I'm hopeful that with the Pink Squirrel's popularity those delicious Midwest drinks can be more well known. As for the atmosphere, I felt like I was in a 50s diner, and specifically felt like I was in that diner from the show Riverdale called Pop's. Pink Squirrel was much smaller than I imagined, but since my friend and I went on a weekday there was plenty of open booths. The two bowling lanes are a nice added perk and the service was excellent. Turned us down because we didn't have a reservation. Two girls walked in after and we asked them if they had reservations and they said no. Not even five minutes later, they were seated. We even asked nicely if they could seat us, and if it would open up later on and they still turned us down. I was hoping for a fun evening with friends, but I was rudely turned away at the door because they do not accept vertical driver's licenses in accordance with "state law." Such a law does not exist. I felt like I was sitting in a 2018 hipster Logan version of Mad Men. Love this addition to my hood! The Pink Squirrel is still fairly new (opened Dec 2017) so I don't think the word is fully out yet. I went on a Tuesday night and we were able to get an adorable retro looking booth easily, plus there were a bunch of open bar stool seats. Everyone working was very friendly and kept checking up on us, which was great. Their drink menu is fun, full of modern spins on old time cocktails with a few updates like boozy milkshakes and desserts. Though it gives off diner vibes, you'll only find one sandwich on the menu. Admittedly that one sandwich sounds pretty darn good and I'll need to indulge in it on a future visit. The Pink Squirrel has a couple of mini bowling lanes which you can rent before going in on Tock for $20/hour on weekdays & $40/hour on the weekends. Don't go expecting full size bowling as it's Duckpin Bowling - smaller lanes, balls and pins on strings totally aligned with the vintage vibe. While at The Pink Squirrel, I tried a couple of their shaken cocktails - the Whiskey Sour and the Millionaire Cocktail. They both were incredibly delicious and went down like water.
