We came here for some quick drinks after enjoying a dinner at another place. It was a cold night and the bar somewhat empty with wha appears to be friends of the staff hanging out at the bar. Once they left it was only us and another couple. The staff was great though. The drinks came out fast and most importantly, they were good. We ordered their smoked watermelon margarita, colibri and their slingshot. All very delicious with the smoked watermelon margarita being our favorite. Once again, the food and drinks did not disappoint! I had guac (best I've ever had), chicken and chorizo tacos and they were both so yummy I don't know which one I liked more! They were bursting with flavor and they were so filling! The drinks were amazing as usual! I had the guava and passion fruit margaritas, best margaritas and even reasonably priced in the city! Tried to come twice before and they were closed when they were supposed to be open. Still, I can't possibly give less than 5 stars. Great atmosphere, very relaxed, seating and lounge areas available. The music selection was amazzzzinnnng (7/26/26). Stayed for several more rounds than planned cause we just couldn't leave the playlist. One man show behind the bar and serving the dining room, still, better service than most restaurants. Food and drinks... fantastic. Only slight negative is a couple of the à la carte tacos came in flour tortillas unexpectedly (gluten free here), but the waiter was quick to replace with corn when requested. 10/10 overall. Huge, delicious tacos that came out hot and quick. The shrimp tacos were perfectly crispy. The steak tacos were my favorite and my son liked chicken tacos best, but everything we tried was great. The margarita was perfect. And the salsa had just the right amount of heat. The place is nice while still having a casual decor. It would be perfect for a casual date night. We took our older kids and enjoyed dinner at a table. (The stools have no backs, so I wouldn't bring younger kids.) We're definitely going back soon. read more

We checked this place out a couple of weekends ago for brunch. Going back today for drinks. Food was delicious and the drinks were on point. The chilaquiles had the perfect amount of crunch. And of that pork... it just melts in your mouth. That egg was perfectly cooked. If you're like me. You want that egg yolk to run and mix with the rest of the dish. We also had the concha. It was the perfect combination of sweet and savory. Getting back to the drinks though. The cocktails I had were ridiculous. Great presentation and amazing flavors. I'm an old fashioned fan and the Vanela (cinnamon) Fashion didn't disappoint. But the star was the Aire del Desierto. Mezcal with pear and prosecco (trust me). It's topped off with this bubble dome. It might sound "gimmicky". But it's not. It hits all the senses. The bubble pops and you really get a whiff of what's to come. Really creative and tasty. Overall: A great option for quick and tasty tacos, but the fish options leave much to be desired. The good: The meat tacos we had were fantastic and bursting with flavor. The steak taco sticks to its roots with only cilantro and onion, but those simple flavors helped make the (well-cooked) steak shine. The al pastor has a lot more going on, marinated in a chile guajillo sauce and topped with chunks of pineapple, onion, and cilantro. The tacos themselves are stuffed and are a good value for the price. Pickup was quick and easy as well. The not-so-good: The fish and shrimp tacos were both underwhelming. There wasn't a lot of flavor to them, and they were tough and chewy. We also planned to eat outside under their pergola on a nice day but arrived and found that it was closed off. My husband and I were in the area and popped in last night out of curiosity because Mexican is our fave, and we're so glad we did. It's a perfect spot with a Michelin-trained chef and bartender, and the drinks are excellent and so reasonably priced. I've been raging against $15-$17 cocktails that are mediocre at so many Chicago restaurants. Louis' margaritas are some of the best you'll have (I am an insufferable snob about margaritas, I promise I know what I'm talking about), and are $10 (other bartenders note: this is what a classic cocktail should cost). The crispy shrimp taco was my fave, my husband loved the fish taco (they were all great). I hugely appreciate his vision to bring a small menu of classic Mexican fare to the area - Raizes translates to roots, and Louis talked about the importance to bring authentic Mexican food out in his restaurant. Very disappointed. We ordered with Uber eats, and the food was simply not tasty. While the price is very fair and the quantity of food was perfect for two people (20 dollars for about 4 tacos and nachos) the meal itself wasn't good at all. The place is decorated pretty cool. Colorful and inviting. Salsas quite flavorful, both with the chips and salsa as well as the bottled varieties. Good variety of heat, served cold. Very nice. Steak burrito was wrapped too loose, causing ingredients to kind of spill out all over the place. It didn't help that it was served on a small baking sheet type plate...felt like this burrito would have been better plated on something larger. I come here about once a week since it's really close to work. I love the Sriracha Chicken, Al Pastor, and Carnitas tacos. The steak and jalapeño shrimp are pretty average but I'll add it to my order when I don't feel like having chicken and pork. The fish taco is pretty good too--it's a better version of Rubio's fish tacos. I wish the chips and guacamole came in multiple sizes since you can only order one big size for $6.75 but it's definitely fresh and tasty. Serving/cooking time is very fast--maybe 8 minutes or less. The quesadillas are very tasty and cheap $$ too. I highly recommend visiting if you're in the area. Edit: I forgot to mention the elote cup! That's a game changer too. OMG. I found this place on UberEats and we are floored. This is probably the best Mexican take out we've ever had. And I never write reviews! My friend ordered all the vegetarian options and she loved them all. Her favorite was the sweet potato but was surprised how the hibiscus flower was even more delicious. They couldn't hack the lunch rush which is understandable since they've been open for less than a week. But hour long wait for 3 tacos is a bit much. Fish taco was doused in sour cream and had some candy sweet sauce that tasted like sweet and sour sauce. The favors were off together and just didn't work. Steak taco was underseasoned and didn't have a lot of meat in taco. Pretty sure they used a cheap cut of beef. The regular chicken taco was amazing though. Marinated well and grilled to perfection. Still wish there was there was more meat. Get this or the chorizo when you go, as my co workers can attest to. A lot to work on, and I hope they can do better since they are so close to my work. The owner should take a tour of Taqueira Asadero on Montrose or L Patron on Fullerton if they want a master class on how to run a quality taco joint. read more
