I LOVE this place! Always quality productions. They bring in top notch performers. They serve beer and wine and cookies. You can bring your drinks in with you but still must keep your mask on and only remove it to take a sip. Please respect that, it's some sort of requirement other than their personal decision and is what helps keep this small non-profit in business. I was in Fort Worth visiting family, and my brother took me to see Gutenberg The Musical. It was hilarious, and the Amphibian was a wonderful local theater. It's small but big enough. There is not a bad seat in place. You can purchase wine, beer, light beverages, and snacks. I'd definitely return to see another play. read more

I recently attended a play "Mercy Killers" at Amphibian Stage Productions, and thought I'd give the place a review as it was my first time here. Driving to the theater, I'll be honest that the neighborhood was a little scary and not what I was expecting, and the building looked rather small and was also not what I was expecting. But you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. It was a pleasant surprise in fact! First off, the parking is free and in their own little lot, which was nice. When we walked up they even had someone holding the doors open for you. The moment you step inside the building it is like entering a different world as it was completely charming indoors! The decor is very modern and minimalistic. They had flags hanging from the ceiling that were tied into the play we were about to see. They had a bar where they offered wine, beer, mixed drinks, soft drinks, and cookies and snacks for sale. There were about four tables and seating along the walls. They really utilized all the space the place has to offer while still keeping it cozy not cramped. We were greeted warmly, got our tickets and a drink and waited for the doors to open to go inside. Seating is first come first serve, but don't rush to finish your drink, you are allowed to take it inside with you. Stay close to the doors and get a front row if you like, but this is an intimate theater, with no bad seats. The production we saw was a one man play, I had never seen one before, but was very impressed with it. It had to do with the medical care in the US and was driven by a doomed couple's heartbreaking plight. They invited all those in attendance to write out their thoughts on the play, or their own experiences on these sheets of cloth and to tie them to a provided screen, letting you be a little piece of art in the lobby. I thought that was cute and I had planned on doing it, but the play had hit very close to home and I was a crying mess by the time it concluded. I had had a very similar experience to those in the story, I got very sick, almost died, spent months in the hospital, barely making it out. In the meantime raking up outrageous sums in hospitals bills that no mere mortal could ever hope to pay back. Our hospital system is very backwards in this country, and I thought the play showed you how care should be a right not a privilege for the rich. Great art entertains, but the best of it makes you think. I am glad we have a theater in Fort Worth that shows non-mainstream productions. I am sure I will be back for more in the future! And recommended it to anyone looking for an interesting evening. read more

I passed by Amphibia Theater probably every Sunday (for a year) on the way to Brewed and never knew it was a theater, maybe they need a flashier sign or better advertisement. Since this was my first time in this theater I will reserve my judgment other than: the entrance was new with modern styling. The bar had 4 types of beers and 3 wines, plenty variety for an hour show. The entrance/ bar had bench seating and high tops where you can enjoy your drinks and socialize. Seating inside the theater was first come first serve and you can bring your drinks with you. The overall interior of the theater was painted all black and as expected (it's an old warehouse) wasn't very ornate that seated around 60 people. It was cozy and comfortable, perfect for the show we saw. Thom Pain (based on nothing) is a one-man show, or an every-man show, something we can all relate to. He is trying to save his life and to save your life--in that order. In his quest for salvation, he'll stop at nothing, be distracted by nothing, except maybe a piece of lint, or the woman in the second row. Enough said, highly recommend this show to theater lovers!! This past weekend I had the chance to see "Death Tax". The play was great with very touching story of a family drama and love. What a cool little place! Staff was super friendly and welcoming and the space is pleasant. There's a bar in the lobby with beer (OMG HopFusion!!), wine, & some snacks like cookies from a nearby bakery. It was our first time here & we saw Melissa Villaseñor from SNL and her opener Grant (?) - I'm sorry Grant, I don't remember your last name, but you were awesome and I'd love to see that scar! It was cool that they were trying out some new material for their up-coming tour and Netflix special - it made it somewhat disjointed at times, but also way more personal. Seats are comfortable (pretty much like office chairs) and set on risers for a good view. The place is pretty small, making for all good seats and good contact between the act and the audience. The area around it is up & coming, with some cool warehouse venues already in place and more shops on the way. Can't wait to come back again! read more

Amphibian Stage Productions makes Fort Worth seem mod, if that's possible. Fresh plays by innovative playwrights acted by talented actors from FW who now work in LA and NYC. The setting of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth for its four annual staged readings is wonderful as is the TCU campus for its 2 fully staged productions. read more

I attended the premier offering of "The Eye of the Beholder" last night. The venue and offering were well presented BUT based on the catch ad which indicated the production was about how people view things differently I was disappointed with the content. I was actually expecting a comedy depicting how people looking at the same thing, see something totally different. The presentation was somber and a bit depressing as well. It stirred my emotions but not the ones I expected to be exercised. I may need to do a little more homework before I come back. My prior experiences have been delightful. John S. read more

This is a great new permanent home for the Amphibian Theatre. In near south side on main. Comfy seats all have great views as this is an intimate experience. Come 15 min early though if you want to sit in center or front row. Great drinks and treats at the bar. You can bring both in with you. read more
