The space is quaint, cozy, and feels like stepping straight into a classic Dutch living room. If it's your first time or you just want a bit of everything, the stamppot combination plate is unbeatable. Getting to sample all three traditional mashes--hutspot, boerenkool, and zuurkool--paired with a juicy smoked sausage or traditional Dutch meatball is pure comfort on a plate. The Erwtensoep (Dutch pea soup) served with rye bread and smoked bacon is rich, thick, and incredible on a cool afternoon. Start off with the bitterballen or Dutch shrimp croquettes to share while you wait. Service is super friendly, welcoming, and effortlessly switches between languages without missing a beat. Because the dining room is small and intimate, it fills up remarkably fast--booking a table online in advance is essential, especially if you're aiming for dinner. A total gem for proper, unpretentious Dutch cuisine!

And despite ALL of our meals in Amsterdam being excellent, this one may have been the best. We wanted to try Dutch food, not totally knowing what to expect and were blown away by the combination of flavors and textures we consumed. We started with the pickled herring which was served with onions and pickles- fresh yet bold! I'm still thinking about those little fishies weeks later. Then we each had the sampler-ish plates (I forget what it was called). Hers was the vegetarian version and mine was with sausage. There were 3 kinds of essentially mashed potatoes with veggies mixed in: 1 with spinach I think, 1 with carrots, and 1 with sauerkraut. Mine came with a delightfully rich gravy and my moms came with some kind of lighter yellow sauce (I think mustard based). We tried these same dishes at other Dutch restaurants during our stay, but nothing beat The Pantry. The service in this quaint and cozy spot was also excellent!

The Pantry - I hadn't had Dutch apple pie since my days waiting tables at Denny's, in the '80s & this was well worth the wait.

Easy to talk and hear each other. The energy is good. The brussels sprout dish was my favorite. I've also been for brunch, which was really cozy, even with children. Lovely couch seating all around for a casual but nice brunch setting.

You will not believe it is complimentary as a Hotel V guest. A big factor in deciding to book with Hotel V was their breakfast service. It is à la carte style. As you enter, you are warmly received and brought to a candlelit table. You choose your hot drink, juice, main, and choice of sweets. Thankfully I was able to explore the breakfast menu and bring recommendations: Hot drink: cannot go wrong with any choice. Craftful latte, excellent full-body espresso, milk foamed to perfection. Juice: order the freshly pressed orange juice. Main: totally blown away by the eggs Florentine and eggs Benedict. Hollandaise sauce is the best I've tasted. Also recommend the bacon, scrambled eggs, and toast. Eggs are fluffy and a little runny - just like how Chef Ramsay makes them! I'm from Canada and their bacon is unlike anything I've ever had. Salty, a little tougher, satisfying. Lastly, order the English breakfast and you'll feel fueled for a long day of tourist duties. Sweets: do yourself favor and trust me when I say, order the french toast. Unreal. After you try the french toast, order the pancakes. Blueberry or banana and bacon. Trust me on this one!

They offer à la carte options as well as three- and four-course prix fixe menus. I chose the three-course meal, and my husband did the four-course; neither of us was disappointed. We had a newer server who was on his first night, but the manager and other staff supported him seamlessly, and he did an incredible job. You can truly see how passionate and attentive everyone is here. Jeffrey, the server my family and I had last year, was still there and even came over to personally say hello, which meant so much to us. The food and service are absolutely exceptional. Reservations are a must, but it is more than worth it. This is hands down the best restaurant I've been to in Amsterdam, and I highly recommend it.

The skin was perfectly crispy and the meat underneath was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Every bite melted in my mouth and tasted rich without feeling heavy. The dish came with fries that paired really well with the duck. The textures worked together and nothing felt overdone. You can tell the kitchen knows exactly what they are doing. The duck was cooked with care and seasoned just right, which made the whole plate feel special. Service was great and the staff clearly knew the menu well. They were friendly and helpful without hovering. If you are in Amsterdam, this duck confit alone is worth the visit.
