And despite ALL of our meals in Amsterdam being excellent, this one may have been the best. We wanted to try Dutch food, not totally knowing what to expect and were blown away by the combination of flavors and textures we consumed. We started with the pickled herring which was served with onions and pickles- fresh yet bold! I'm still thinking about those little fishies weeks later. Then we each had the sampler-ish plates (I forget what it was called). Hers was the vegetarian version and mine was with sausage. There were 3 kinds of essentially mashed potatoes with veggies mixed in: 1 with spinach I think, 1 with carrots, and 1 with sauerkraut. Mine came with a delightfully rich gravy and my moms came with some kind of lighter yellow sauce (I think mustard based). We tried these same dishes at other Dutch restaurants during our stay, but nothing beat The Pantry. The service in this quaint and cozy spot was also excellent!

Portions are substantial and a very good value in a neighborhood where tourist-markups are the norm. They have a/c, but in order to feel it you'll need to sit closer to the back of the restaurant/near the kitchen, as there is only one wall unit back there, and they leave the front of the restaurant open to the elements (even in 98+ degree heat).

I enjoyed all of the dishes we were served. Fresh and nicely seasoned. Not overly salty or heavy. Portions were just right and I left feeling stuffed even with the 3 course option. Dinner was at a relaxed and unrushed pace. We spent 2 hours here and were the first ones to leave. Clearly people enjoy eating and spending time here!

Even though the menu is a surprise, they accommodate food allergies. Our server explained the process of dinner as well as each dish very well. As someone who loves to cook, I liked hearing about how some of the dishes were prepared. Atmosphere: The atmosphere was intimate and rustic with brick walls, candlelight, and wood. The open kitchen was a delight to watch - they were hustling, but calm and quiet. We ate early on a weeknight which was also nice. It's fine Dutch dining but in a casual atmosphere. Food: The food was very tasty with options for a 3, 4, or 5 course dinner. We opted for 5 course and there were also upgrades like wine pairings and a cheese plate dessert instead of the preset dessert. The menu had a range of meat and veggies, but they also offered a full vegetarian menu too. The two plates that stood out was the venison dish which was cooked perfectly, as well as the unique dessert - the cherries and Thai basil oil with vanilla ice cream paired really well with my ruby port. We were a party of 4 vacationing from the USA. Bathrooms were clean, service was delightful, and it was well worth getting out of city center for a nice dinner!

Came here with a group of colleagues, as Jacobsz had been recommended. The restaurant was quite spacious, and there were not many diners on the Tuesday night of our visit (later found out there was a big football match). The service was exceedingly professional, despite a very laid back look. Very friendly and also extremely knowledgeable, and our waiter helped a lot with dish selection and explanation. We all ordered the four course option. Looking at the menu I had my doubts about enjoying the meal, but I was wrong. Again, dishes are listed as the four or so main ingredients in the dish, with no other descriptors. I ordered the Yellowfin Tuna starter, Iberico Presa as the "Between", Gnocchi as my main course, and the cheese. Wow. The tuna was rare and cut into ceviche-sized pieces, paired with other ingredients and served on a sort of tomato broth base. It was fresh and delicious. Everything worked so well together (theme of all the dishes). Others in my group had either the cauliflower or duck confit, and all thought those were wonderful as well. The Iberico Presa was a slow cooked cut of pork, and it was maybe the slightly lower point in the meal, as the pork was not as tender as I would have preferred. The rich sauce and onion really complimented the pork, though. My main was the Gnocchi, and it looked unlike any I've ever seen. In fact, when the dish was set down I could not tell that it was Gnocchi, as the gnocchi itself was covered with a crunchy...something! Not sure what it was, but again everything was delicious! The Gnocchi were plated with red chicory, and also had garlic and puntarelle. A wonderful dish. A perfect cheese plate to finish our fabulous meal. We all talked about this place. A culinary gem in Amsterdam.

Jacobz is a top-knotch high service restaurant that brings more then decent cuisine at moderate prices. Staff was very attentative and flexible, budt most of all relaxed and non-intrusive. We had a three course meal with some quick bites upfront; all of which were of a very good quality (maybe not Michelin-star, but cutting it close). The wine list features a very broad combination of classics and new world surprises. Interior design is very spacious for Amsterdam standards (ambitious, one might say), but it certainly lives up to what it appeare to be. Will definetely be back; often. And that's not only just because I live nearby.

I've visited Amsterdam only once, but I absolutely loved it and left convinced I could happily live…read morethere, raise a family there, and become part of its daily rhythm. De Kas is one of the clearest reasons that feeling has lasted. Our late lunch there was a highlight alongside our incredible hotel and the Van Gogh Museum, plus more great experiences than I can now reliably reconstruct. On a trip crowded with memorable places, this restaurant created a scene so distinctive that I can still picture the entire afternoon. Tucked into Park Frankendael in East Amsterdam, De Kas occupies a former municipal greenhouse built in 1927 to grow plants for the city's parks. The vast glass structure feels like a high-tech agricultural experiment refined into an elegant restaurant, with daylight pouring across the dining room and greenery visible all around. Its dramatic scale, working greenhouse roots, and views into the garden keep the architecture connected to the food. The result is inventive, environmentally thoughtful, and distinctly Dutch. During our late lunch, a nearby school let out, and streams of happy young people passed the restaurant on foot and bicycle. That everyday scene is one of my strongest memories of the entire experience, and the steady flow of bicycles defined the atmosphere as much as the building itself. We sat inside this luminous greenhouse while young Dutch people crossed the park around us, giving the meal a genuine sense of place. The restaurant felt local, sophisticated, and fully connected to the neighborhood. Beyond the glass walls, this was a completely different Amsterdam from the dense canal neighborhoods most visitors know first. The park, gardens, and steady movement of bicycles made the city feel spacious and remarkably livable. That shift in setting changed the pace of our afternoon and widened my understanding of the city. De Kas delivered a destination meal in the middle of everyday East Amsterdam, and that combination made my growing fantasy of living there feel surprisingly plausible. Although I can no longer name the individual courses, I remember the food clearly in the ways that matter: fresh, delicious, and deeply enjoyable from beginning to end. The vegetables had real presence, and each plate tasted consistent with the agricultural world surrounding our table. The meal felt composed, carefully paced, and alive with the kind of brightness you hope for when produce sits at the center of the experience. I left satisfied and energized, which is an unusual achievement for a substantial lunch. Underneath that freshness is a remarkably concrete growing system. De Kas cultivates around 300 varieties of vegetables, herbs, and fruits in Amsterdam and the Beemster, then harvests them close to the moment they enter the kitchen. The changing garden shapes the menu and gives vegetables a central role throughout the meal, allowing the seasons to determine what appears on the table. Here, the phrase farm to table describes the restaurant's actual daily logistics, visible in the garden, the kitchen, and the food. Ultimately, De Kas captured so much of what I loved about Amsterdam in one afternoon. At the most basic level, this place is incredibly cool: a delicious restaurant in a soaring glass building, surrounded by gardens and ordinary city life. Its Michelin Star and Green Star make complete sense, while watching people move through the park made it easy to imagine living here and raising children within that rhythm. I would be thrilled to return, and I recommend De Kas enthusiastically to anyone who wants to experience Amsterdam beyond the canal center.

The amouse bouches before the main courses were fantastic, ranging from the tapioca chip with celery dip which was A+, the couple of vegetarian wraps, the hot seared scallop add-on, the broth, along with the sourdough bread with mushroom infused whipped butter. Each of the courses were meticulously presented and the flavors were all top notch. Loved the light meats, including the perfectly cooked fish course. Despite having so many vegetables, I was actually pretty full that I could only do 1 instead of the 2 desserts! The meal ended off with a sorbet which was fantastic! I also loved how they offered an apple on the way out!
