This is my 2nd trip on Amtrak going from Glenwood Springs to Denver. The train arrived on time. The Glenwood Springs station is still the original building from June 1904. Beautiful wood accents with old style wooden bench seats in the waiting area. The station is handicap accessible with a elevator. But I did not see handicap or wheelchair passengers. I had no issues when the conductor scanned my QR code from the Amtrak app. The conductor gave me a seat tag in coach. I entered car 610, found my seat and waited. The train left on time. One of the advantages of coach is you do not have stay in your designated seat. You can walk around visiting the observation car, the Cafe on the lower level of the same car or when the dining car is open for breakfast or lunch you can show up to be seated. Dinner is more likely to be a private table and requires reservations. They accept cash, card or tap-to-pay in both the Cafe and the dining car. Passengers who book roomettes or private bedrooms get all meals included in the dining car. The Cafe is open more often with snacks, light meals, soft drinks and alcohol. Because they are going thru the mountains with tight curves and at least 38 tunnels speed is reduced. There was a straight section between Kremmling and Granby when the train was probably going 60mph. The trip had 2 stops before Denver. Granby for ticketed passengers only and Fraser-Winter Park where anyone can get off the train for fresh air or a smoke break. Winter Park resort offers a shuttle bus to the ski area. read more

There's something romantic about traveling by train-perhaps because most of us Americans only experience that when we travel internationally or when we watch a movie. It's been on my bucket list to ride the Amtrak train and I recently had the opportunity to do so. The station in Glenwood Springs is just what you'd hope to see-wooden benches, overhead fans, musty air inside. This one even has some old-timey decorations that take you back in time. When your train arrives, the conductor will come inside and invite you to board. It's a fairly casual process-nothing as stressful as commercial flying. Some things to note about Amtrak in general: * The trains are often late-download the app to monitor it's status-that is usually pretty accurate * The roomettes are tiny, but private. If you want to sleep in peace without anyone around you, it's a worthy expense. * While they say that ID is required, I was never asked to show any. * There is no wifi on the train. Spotty cell service, depending on where you travel. Bring a book. All aboard! read more

Bottom Line: 118 year old train station serving Amtrak and Rocky Mountaineer. I love trains, history and architecture so of course I enjoyed milling around the Glenwood Springs train station. The train station was built in 1904 by the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad (D&RGW) and at some point was consolidated into or acquired by Union Pacific who still owns it today. Amtrak uses the station for the California Zephyr and Rocky Mountaineer uses it for their train too. The historic train station has two waiting rooms. One seems to be leased out to Rocky Mountaineer, at least during their on season, and the other is general Amtrak seating with the original oak benches. Back in the day one waiting room would have been for men and then other for women and children. There is a ticket counter with somewhat limited hours, a baggage claim, a water fountain and restrooms. The bare-bones historic statin doesn't have a restaurant or shop and I am not even sure if I saw a vending machine but there are some restaurants and shops right across the street. read more

Glenwood Springs Amtrak depot is a nice station with updated modern facilities. On duty staff are all professional and friendly. The station has an enclosed waiting area and services counter/window. The grounds around the station and the building itself are immaculate, my brief stopover to load and unload passengers allowed for a few minutes to step out and get some fresh air. Walking around you can tell the facility is well maintained and very nice, both inside and out. The train literally stops in the middle of the town, so its proximity to pretty much everything within the downtown community appears to be within short walking distance. Several passengers departing that I spoke to had stated that as well. 4 Stars - a nice stop/station along the scenic route to Denver on the California Zephyr. My husband and I love trains, so it's no surprise that I ride Amtrak whenever I can. We took Amtrak from Houston to Los Angeles last March before we got on a cruise through the Panama Canal. Amtrak prices are cheaper than flying and there is a lot less hassle than at an airport. Two days I rode Amtrak from Granby, CO to Glenwood Springs, CO and the cost was only $30. The scenery in that ride was spectacular. In addition, the seats are roomy and aisle space wide enough to get through with a heavy coat. I recommend Amtrak as a fun travel alternative for anyone who has the time. And do t forget to visit the observation car for some great views. read more

What excellent customer service! We had to alter travel plans to get home due to a flight cancellation out of Aspen, and Dawn took wonderful care of us! We recently decided to have a No-Drive Vacation. We rode the Amtrak Train to Glenwood Springs. I am so glad we did! The train was clean, comfortable, and our trip was seamless! I get seasick, I'll tell you that right now. Before our trip, we purchased the usual seasick merchandise - the bracelet, the tablets, etc. I wasn't sure how I would react, so I wanted to be safe. No Need! I absolutely LOVED riding the train! The seasickness here! I was so very relieved! If you are deciding if you should take the train, I HIGHLY suggest it! Amtrak makes it so easy! DO NOT TRAVEL BY AMTRAK - worst travel experience my family has ever had. Leaving Denver the train was more than 7 hours late. There were no amenities in the station except bars. On the train coming to Denver which was also late none of the toilets worked in our car. A man seated behind us had night terrors, screaming and kicking . It was awful in ways I cannot describe. My son asked if we could buy a cheap car and drive home rather than getting back on the train. We assured him it would be better and we were totally wrong. Plug ins don't work to charge devices. I will never travel this way again read more

On our big snow excursion to Birds of Prey, we took Amtrak to Glenwood Springs to connect to a bus to get us to Vail. The lady working was super awesome. She let us check our bags both times so we could go explore while we waited for the bus/train. And when the bus was late in getting to the station, she called Greyhound to check the status for us. And we didn't even have to ask her to do it. The station was beyond clean and really cute. read more

Staff was friendly, our seats weren't very clean, food was awful & the bathrooms were enough to make me NOT want to use the toilet!!!! We left 2hours late, so we missed a show that we had tickets for....probably won't do this again; though it was nice to not have to drive & we could drink, so that was worth it, I suppose. read more

Glenwood Springs station does not have a way for a wheelchair dependent person to get up to the sidewalk unless they can hop on a golf cart to do so. For people in wheelchairs who cannot stand or make transfers, there is no elevator or ramp to the street to get to their hotel. There is no elevator from the street level to the ticketing area/access to the train. I have personally talked to the two station agents at this location this week for a trip planned in the winter and they were sympathetic to my needs, however, they could not come up with a solution to this problem. read more

I have to say how wonderful Amtrack is. Not only is it a lovely way to travel, the staff from denver to Glenwood springs and beyond are exceptional. My husband left his laptop and not only did they find it in short order, they provided status along the way and got it back to us in record time. Such honestly! What a true blessing!!
