When you're traveling to Eagle/Vail hou HAVE to fly into this regional airport. Otherwise you have to fly I to Denver and drive 2 1/2 hours to Eagle/Vail. Flying into the Eagle Vail airport is a vibe... The airport is like so cute I could live there. There's a double sided fireplace and keep Bartender . This airport may have the best view of any airport that I have flown in/out of. It's quirky but the view is spectacular. This is the third airport that I have used in Colorado. Most of my visits have been to DEN or ASE. This trip it worked out that it was closest to where I needed to be in Glennwood as well as being the cheapest option. I do think an earlier review that mentioned the typical clientele being people who light their fireplace with $100 bills was accurate. However, for this trip, it was the cheapest for this non-baller dude. I am not going to lie to you. Flying into this airport sucked. Just like Aspen, the wind over the mountains does a number on planes landing and taking off. A few cocktails would probably help (passengers not the pilot) but there is no way around the roughness. Roughness aside, the view of the mountains on approach, and the landing, is awesome. Inside there are gigantic windows that look out across the runway and have a great view of the surrounding mountains. I found myself staring out the window completely forgetting the fact that I needed to get my bag and a rental car (hence the no cocktails to cope with turbulence). The baggage claim was pretty straightforward for regular luggage. I had to seek out an attendant for my bag as it needed to be picked up from the office. The rental car was pretty well used before I got it but the attendant parked it on the curb in the no-parking area for me. This was a bit of a trick as returning it was one of the quirks of this airport. Rental returns means parking in a special lot that is a good distance away. If you have people in your party who can't walk far, drop them off first then return your car. Shopping choices as well as food choices are pretty slim. What they do have is great but don't expect a massive list of restaurants or souvenir shops. Would I fly back? Yep. read more

One of the Least Accommodating Airports I've Ever Experienced If you're flying out of Eagle Airport, be prepared for zero flexibility and poor service. I missed the bag check cut-off by three minutes--not thirty, not an hour, but three--and the staff refused to even attempt to get my bag on the flight. They didn't care that I was right there, ready to go. Instead, their only solution was to rebook me on a later flight that would have me arriving seven hours later. I was in tears at the check in counter because I had to pick up my dog from the sitter by a certain time To make matters worse, the flight ended up being delayed, meaning I was actually within the bag check cut-off time. Did they offer to put my bag on at that point? Of course not. No logic, no customer service, just a rigid adherence to a rule that could have been worked around with even a little effort. Adding to the frustration, Google lists this airport as having Clear, but that's completely false. If you were counting on using Clear to get through security faster, think again. Overall, this is a tiny airport that somehow manages to be both inconvenient and unhelpful. If you have other options, take them. read more

Great airport if you're the type that lights your fireplace with one hundred dollar bills as kindling. I have to assume that the incumbent mega carriers are paying the airport a hefty kickback to ensure no access to value carriers, because they know during ski season, with no downward pressure from competition, they can extract maximum revenue from passengers. Seriously, during ski season I can fly to Europe on Delta for half the cost of what it takes for me to fly into Eagle from three hours away, yet I can fly to other ski airports on Southwest for 20% of what it costs me to fly to Eagle. It clearly is not a cost of operations issue or Southwest couldn't accomplish selling seats to similarly remote areas (think Telluride) at a dramatically lower price. It's just a profit grab for those who want to avoid the nightmare I70 drive in from Denver. The airport itself is not bad, a bit frustrating with regard to food services due to the incredible slowness, but most of the time I'm not willing to pay the penalty to fly here so I don't get to visit anywhere near as often as I'd have liked. I've shifted much of my skiing away from the Keystone/Breck/Vail/Beaver Creek areas more towards Park City, Tahoe, Telluride/Montrose, etc. where I can reach for a much more tolerable price with far less of a driving risk. EGE, please bring in some value carriers; not everyone can afford $1200 tickets. read more

The only reason this place isn't getting a one star rating is because of the view of the mountains and nice decor that makes it feel a tiny bit less commercial than most other airports, and more like a lodge. Other than that, it sucks. The biggest issue? Where most passengers' journey start, ticketing and check in. After driving through a snow storm to get here, we waited in line for 30-45 minutes to check our 1 bag, and when it was our turn we were told "sorry it's too late to check your bag and there is nothing we can do." It took them all that time to check 4 people with about 10 bags before they got to us. Because of this we were forced to be moved to another flight. They almost made us stay overnight without compensation before I did their job for them and found a different same day flight in the app (this happened to be American Airlines). The reps were extremely slow and ill equipped to handle their responsibilities. What's worse, had they simply said "there are check-in kiosks inside" to bypass the ticketing counters all of this could have been avoided. The representatives for the airline either need serious training or to be replaced. Onto the airport itself. Security? Ridiculously slow and PACKED. Closing lanes even though there are hundreds of passengers waiting to go through. Rude and snippy as the TSA usually is, but that's to be expected. After that, we look for a lounge, but they don't have one (you'd think with all the rich people flying in to ski in Aspen they would have at least ONE lounge) so we go to the only bar/restaurant in the whole airport for mediocre food, although decent drinks. However we had to sit in an odd place as there is not adequate seating to serve the amount of passenger volume they have and people literally stand around with their food getting cold waiting for a spot to open. This is exacerbated by the fact that unfortunately many people are selfish and oblivious to others around them and camp out at dinning tables on their computers or taking a nap rather than getting up to allow others to use the space. In my opinion there should either be more seating added or someone monitoring seating areas for fair use. I will NEVER fly into this airport again if there is even one other option available. A word of advice, add at least an hour to the recommended arrival time to ensure you don't miss your flight. Good luck to those who must fly here. read more

EGE is a small regional airport that is essential for anyone wanting to access Beaver Creek and Vail, but doesn't want to chance it driving west from Denver on the I70. Having almost becoming a victim in two such harrowing drives in the past 5 years, I now always look at this as being the less stressful option. It's often twice the airfare of anywhere-DEN, but sometimes the price is right. On the most recent trip here in February, the high cost of renting a car at DEN was almost enough to offset the higher air fare; take into consideration the added fuel cost, the time saved, and it was a no-brainer. It is actually some 25 miles west of Beaver Creek, in Gypsum, but getting here on the interstate takes no time. All 3 majors offer at least seasonal service here from their hubs - DL even operates a larger-gauge narrow body in the 757. It's also quite beautiful flying into and out of EGE. Note that all oversized bags are delivered outside, not at the baggage carousels. There are a few limited choices for airport food and drinks. All major car rental companies are represented - mountain transportation could get pricey if you don't have your own vehicle (No Uber/Lyft service here, as you can imagine). Conveniently, it is right down the street from the only Costco within, oh, 150 miles;. that means not having to struggle to find a place to gas up before returning your car - if you're a Costco member. The only small peeve is that all the car rental spaces are outdoors, not undercover. It could get quite messy and tricky when it's snowing, or yucky when snow is melting. But it's literally across the street from the airport. So, if you're skiing in those two resorts, it's worth checking EGE out as an option, and see if it makes sense for your needs and preferences. read more

We (family of 4) were the only people in the line with TSA pre. There were 5 in the staff. The staff were very rude and unfriendly. Saying words like' oh my god, put your jacket under your bag in the bin and making faces on us. Such a beautiful place, had a very nice experience at the hotels and resorts but the TSA Staff ruined it all for us. Taking back a foul memory with us home. read more

Eagle County Regional Airport is a nice airport to fly into especially if you're staying locally in the Vail/Beaver Creek area. Flights can be a bit more expensive in comparison to flying into Denver, but flying into EGE certainly makes it more convenient to get to some of the ski resorts in this area like Vail, Beaver Creek, Aspen, and Steamboat. A few years ago this airport was remodeled and they actually added to the existing building, so it's larger now and has two floors, with an industrial mountain design. Curbside check-in is available and TSA is usually pretty quick. EGE is a small airport, and in my opinion could use some more food options and a little kiosk in the secure gate area. They have one option for food, which is a grab-and-go section combined with a food menu on the second floor. I think it would be much better to have the grab-and-go section with its own point of sale register, or maybe just having it in a different section of the airport entirely. The reason being is once you pass TSA, this is the only place to get a beverage or snack, and the line can get very long. On the second floor, near the food area, they have a small bar. If you happened to bring your own reusable water bottle, they do have a station near the water fountain/restrooms where you can refill it. They have a small area with a few arcade games, an ATM machine, a pet relief room, and a lovely nursing room, all on the second floor as well. The nursing room is very nice, as it has a comfy chair, a changing area, and a sink. I've found that baggage claim is usually very efficient here and renting a car is easy as well. The best part about EGE is the location and it's proximity to the mountain and the friendly staff. All in all, Eagle County Regional Airport is clean and efficient (with the exception of that long line you might encounter on the second floor when trying to buy food/beverage). I would fly into this airport again on future trips, but do hope they come up with a better system for people to buy grab-and-go items (something that was overlooked when they did the remodel in my opinion). read more

Been to this airport a couple of times and have always liked it which is why I'm giving it a 3 star instead of lower. The reason I'm making this post is because I was pretty disappointed with the airport today. After getting of my flight and going to the baggage claim I saw 2 signs that said "letzgo Brandon" that were printed out and placed in the baggage claim area. Another man and I picked up the signs which then caused a slight argument when another passenger came up to him and berated him about taking down the sign. Since the signs were printed and matched other signs and fonts around the airport I am 99% sure a employee placed these signs. Regardless of political opinions after a 9 hour day of traveling I don't want to see it. An airport is not the place for it. I hope management or someone sees this post so that they are aware of this. Other than this situation the airport has always been pretty good. Comfy, warm, plenty of outlets, and just a over all small but nice airport. read more

Fantastic airport if you are heading to Vail or Beaver Creek. For most flights you have to walk outside and climb the stairs and if it is snowing, you better have a jacket. The only thing that is not so good is that any snowstorm will shut thisbplav down quicker than you can say where is the nearest wall charger. During the winter hundreds of passengers sleep on the floor as their flights were canceled. read more

If you are going to Colorado to ski this is the best way to get here. This small and convenient airport is only 30 minutes from Beaver Creek and 45 from Vail. Plenty of car rentals and their location is 20 feet away once you come out from the terminal. There is also shuttle service to the villages if you don't want to rent a car which sometimes you don't really need since there are buses running all day and night to get you to your destination whether it's a hotel, restaurant or shopping. The airport has a small cafeteria if you are looking to get some snacks and a small store for your last minute gifts, books and magazines. No they do not have marijuana dispensaries at the airport even though it is legal here :) Enjoy Colorado! read more

This place gets it done! After having our flight out of Aspen cancelled due to weather we were able to fly out of Eagle and get home. So what makes this place great besides actually getting you home? - Great location off I-70 - Rental Car Pickup and Drop-off right at the terminal - Fast security times, TSA Pre-Check actually gets you they faster here unlike ASE Need to work on - Food and beverage here isn't great. Such a tiny airport that serves the population of Avon, Eagle and Aspen. Eagle is not affected by the snow fall that Avon is covered with. It's only about 10 miles apart between this two towns. Closer and ironically not used a lot because it's expensive to fly out of or in. An example would be flying out of it to Las Vegas would roughly cost you close to $500. While Denver would cost you half. But if your time is gold and you poop gold then this is your choice. More bang for your poop should I say :) Avis rental car is also located in this airport and the closest to the three city's I mentioned above. When you drop by this airport it's like time stood still to let you pass. Almost felt like a western movie with rolling dry grass occasionally painting the landscape. A punctuation of an occasional announcement of a flight coming in. Then dead silence except for the wind. Nevertheless it's an awesome cute airport where United flies in and out! read more

The airport looks aesthetically nice but lacking in design. Once you go through security, there are zero news, gift or sundries options. There is one place to grab food & drinks and only one bar. No other kiosks. Of course this is President's weekend so the line is insanely long - over 50 people- just to get a bottled water. They are really hurting their own revenue not having gift, sundries and news options in this area. This is where you are captive and more likely to spend. Who has time to shop BEFORE going through security? And of course you cannot bring a water through security.... I am adding to my review because I finally made it through checkout. there is a small selection of souvenirs once you get close to the checkout but if you were to look you would lose your place in line... I grabbed a water, Diet Coke, cinnamon roll and the standard airport pre-packaged turkey sandwich. I paid by credit card and the cashier told me to follow the prompts: Amount correct? yes Tip? no. She did not offer me a receipt but checked the running paper tab on her end to see if I tipped before giving me my items. She was visibly annoyed that I had not tipped. I said thank you she sarcastically thanked me as she handed me my items. If it were not so crowded, I would have asked to speak to a manager, but I did not want to hold anyone one up. The fact that she even checked for a tip right in front of me before giving me my items is in extremely poor taste. I leave extremely good tips at restaurants, etc. Why in the world would one tip someone for ringing up a Diet Coke? Seriously. Thumbs down all around here. read more

You all have *got* to do a better job. While I love the convenience of this airport, it should come as no surprise that you get a mad rush of visitors in the Winter. Waiting nearly AN HOUR for a bag in a crush of people also waiting while the weather outside is perfect is frankly inexcusable. You only have a handful of gates. You only have a few luggage belts. Everything was great on the flight into the Eagle County airport. Flying direct from Dallas was convenient, and the $4 ECO bus that took me into Beaver Creek was an awesome value. The building itself has a nice 'ski lodge' feel with nice architecture and uber awesome leather chairs. It was comfortable and convenient. If only my flight out could have been as smooth. A word of warning to travelers here. Fly out on a Saturday at your peril. The terminal was completely jammed with the most soul-crushingly long security line I have ever seen in my years of travel. There were literally thousands of people queued up, and nearly everyone was in danger of missing flights. This airport, while charming, is NOT equipped to process the volume of flights and travelers that are booked here. Eagle County would be a 5 star airport for me if the security lines weren't so hilariously awful. Travel on an off day or show up 2 hours early, else the security lines of doom might get you. read more

SUX Every time that I have flown in or out I have been CNX, redirected to either Aspen, Denver or Grand Junction with absolutely no help from the airlines. No services at the airport for food et al. Service counters have very limited hours and sky caps are limited to each particular airline. Tickets in or our are rare and very expensive with almost no upgrades. Vail is hard to get to, not much fun, very expensive. Go to Aspen. read more

Obviously, building an airport in the middle of the mountains can come with weather delays. However, the amount of cancellations when it is NOT snowing or windy is heinous. Do yourself a favor and forget that Vail even exists. It's inaccessible. read more

This is the way they should built airport....small/compact, decent seating areas, 1 minute walk to baggage claim....and baggage delivered 5 minutes after arrival. Could be because its SO SMALL.....we flew into it out of Chicago (there were maybe 40 people on a Tuesday morning flight) and back home via Denver - which was an awful trip down the mountain. After collecting our baggage, there was a CME -(please see Colorado Mountain Express review) counter where we got hooked up with our van to the Park Hyatt -(please see review) for an excellent vacation at Beaver Creek - http://talesfromtheroad-mwalno.blogspot.com/2010/03/beaver-creek-vacation-beaver-creek-co.html. The ride was probably 30 minutes and they dropped us off right at the Park Hyatt. One warning - on the Saturday we were leaving they had a LOT of SNOW and many United flights were cancelled and people were re booked out of Denver. From what we heard the AA flights went out as planned.... What a great experience! read more

I imagine during the winter seasons it might be more crowded with all the mountain goers; however my experience was a nearly empty airport. Quiet, no lines for security check-in, and since it's such a small location, finding your gate is a piece of cake. The only problem I found was that there was no seating at our gate, so we had to go to another area to wait. read more

Services are fairly spartan, particularly early mornings and late evenings. The approach can be turbulent depending on the weather. Car rentals out of here are pricey. If you aren't flying our on a big travel/ski weekend, you will breeze through, if you are going to try to fly out of here after MLK ski weekend, plan to be at security a long time. Very convenient location when travelling to Beaver Creek and Vail. It's a very small regional airport, so you can't expect the same amenities as LAX or ATL. Security check lines can be very long during holidays and peak season, but it still beats time trying to drive/fly in Denver. Be prepared to pay a little extra to fly into EGE.
