I would award this place 4-5 stars, except I feel I have to dock Amtrak a few stars for the following: The attitude of the woman running the dining car was outrageous... I was patiently sitting at a table while the line/mob of kids waiting to get food died down. Apparently I'm not allowed to do that and made the mistake of sitting at "her" table (why an employee is allowed to commandeer a whole table to herself in a packed dining car is beyond me). After that, everything about what I was doing was wrong according to her and I left very disappointed in my much-anticipated train ride. read more

I recently decided to return via AMTRAK from Martinez to Seattle with my Great-Niece's (we were in the bay area attending a number of family graduations), instead of using my flight reservations. Pam at the Martinez station was very friendly and helpful in answering any questions I had, since it had been years since I traveled via AMTRAK. She is the only reason why I have this review 5-stars. Once to the train and on the train I requested several times to be on the lower level, as I have medical issues, which make it painful to go up and down stairs. I spoke with 4 different AMTRAK employees during my 20+ hour trip and was not moved! read more

I used to take the amtrak often between 1999 - 2001, the timeliness was always a problem, but that's GREATLY improved. As we barely made it on the train without ticket, a kind conductor suggested a way to avoid the on train charge by purchasing a ticket for a future train on our smart phone. Great customer service, very timely, this makes my previous experiences on amtrak dissolve into the past... this may now be my preferred method of travel to visit family up north. read more

Anyone who rides the Capitol Corridor system regularly knows that some stations are better and more comfortable than others. Martinez is clean, quiet and safe. It has a Java Stop snack bar with a friendly owner, toilets that require a token (helps to prevent vandalism and/or the homeless from moving in), and electrical outlets for people needing a bit of juice for their tech equipment. I have seen negative comments posted here about the station agents; as a daily rider from Martinez to San Francisco via Emeryville, I can attest that Martinez has some of the nicest agents in the system; if you want to see/contend with miserable agents and practice angry muttering under your breath, try dealing with the Emeryville crowd! Parking is managed by the City of Martinez but free parking permits (with ticket) are supplied by the station agent desk; this is a perk not all of the stations offer, and it's well worth the effort to arrive a bit early for a space. I moved from commuting by the hell that is BART to relative luxury on Capitol Corridor, and whereas BART never feels safe, the train conductors take good care of their riders and there is really no comparison between the two methods of travel. read more

This time trip being my 5th time on a amtrack ride iij was expecting the normal ride with covid being a factor as the normal of today goes . .. I was on a ride from hanford on the 719 train north bound and every thing went as normal. No issues then transfer at Martinez and I walked out to train that was 1n half hrs aprox late to a drill Sargent female shooting orders and ignoring any other comments. From anyone visibly upset many rides were voicing and showing there aggigitation. I calmly boarded then was warned by a attendant if I didn't wear my mask ( that i had on ) I'd be asked to leave next stop. All know a very straight to the point no answers of ne other kind from any one rider also was packed and dirty. Very different then my normal good time I usually have . What's up amtrack ne comments regarding the rude amd aggressive behavior shown here ? Buy your tickets online or at the machine left of the front desk because these employees are RUDE. I was standing at the front desk for awhile and the lady didn't come until someone coughed loudly behind me. I asked for a round trip ticket thought she was going to ask the destination she just sat there staring at me until I gave her a look like "what are staring at?" She finally said "you haven't given me any information" mind you this is my first time riding the train...cmon now. It's 630 am and I don't wanna be here just as much as you don't. Give me a break. Just purchased a pastry from the little cafe inside the train station. I had to buy it as they had a $5 minimum. It was moldy, green!!! And these ladies working there are trying to tell me this is normal. It's the fruit absorbing into the dough when it was cooked. No. Not buying it. Gave it back. Worst experience ever!!!! I was early for my train and when the train arrived so did another, blocking the path to walk down to the other train. so 5 other passengers and my self had to walk around the train (all of this took about one min) people are getting off the train as we are walking there by the time we get to the door they shut them in our faces! We start knocking on the door (again all that is going on does not take more than one min) the conductor sees us trying to get in and he gets on his Walkie and tells the train operator to go! Instead of telling them to open the door he tells them to leave!!! The train stopped dropped people off did not wait at least one min and left as they see us trying to get to them!!! I'm giving the Amtrak in Martinez 1 star because they have the worst customer service I think I've ever encountered. My boyfriend and I booked the train from Bakersfield CA to Olympia WA. We asked ahead if we could bring our bikes and trailer when we bought the ticket. Amtrak told us there would be absolutely no problem. We boarded the train in Bakersfield without any issues. When we stopped in Martinez, we had a couple hours to kill. We brought our bikes and trailer inside with a clear view of the front desk. No one said anything to us for the hours while we waited. As soon as we tried to board the train, this awful woman named Ami approached us. She told us that we had to pay an extra $25 each for the bikes and asked why we hadn't registered the bikes. I told her that I didn't know we needed to since we had boarded in Bakersfield with bikes and they hadn't charged us extra. She told us we couldn't board until paying the extra fee. I asked her where I could do that. Instead of communicating with us clearly or taking us where we needed to go, she panicked and left us on the platform alone. We didn't know what to do so we waited to speak with the conductor. He then told us we shouldn't have been able to board in Bakersfield with the bike trailer and that each conductor essentially makes different rules for each train.... I told him we would pay and do anything to make our train, but the entire staff was in a panic and stalled us almost 10 minutes trying to figure out what to do. After running around in a panic for a long time, the conductor told us he had blocked traffic too long and left us behind. When we tried to talk to Ami again, she told us the train station was closing and she couldn't help us get new tickets. She was very rude during the whole process. Eventually, we were kicked out of the building with no where to go because the station was closing. It was midnight at the time. We stood on the platform for a few seconds frantically trying to find anywhere to stay for the night. While we were googling hotels, Ami went on the loud speaker and loudly told us to leave the premises... as if we had somewhere to go. I tried calling the customer service help line to have them comp us a hotel but the 24/7 customer service help line told us they don't solve problems on the weekends, and to call Monday. When I woke up the next morning, I called to get us a train to our destination or at least back home. Amtrak refused to let us ride the train period with our bike trailer even though they had dropped us off in an unfamiliar town with it. I tried to get a refund and they said that they could only refund 38 dollars for the connection we "missed" on the weekend. I opted to not take the refund and wait till the week day hours. They eventually gave us the whole 200 dollar refund but it was like pulling teeth. They should've covered our hotel costs for that night too but they didn't . This was my first time taking Amtrak. I was very excited to take the train for the first time, but I'm not sure that I would ever give it another shot. read more

I come to this station allot and its one of the cleanest stations i been to in the bay area. Especially the restrooms! They are always clean! The staff is very courteous and helpful! They even have a cafe that has a variety of snacks and drinks! Try the coffee! Excellent! read more

Employees lack concern for customers. Stay at our random hotels until 10 am. Very unorganized. Much better spots in the usa with helpful people. read more

I sat here for a long time going and coming from a vacation and at some points I was scared I was going to be kidnapped. While I was there the police came a few times. It seemed like homeless people were in the station. read more

I had a long wait at this station. Lots of seating. Free tokens for the restroom sitting on the ticket counter waiting for you to grab them. They also have a nice snack counter if you are hungry or thirsty. read more

This was my first time taking Amtrak or any trained for that matter. The Martinez station is like stepping back in time it has the wood seeds that you see in movies and felt like a train station from 30-40 years ago in a good way. It was very quick and easy to purchase my tickets through the kiosk. The only real downside was the price for commuter tickets $18 from Martinez to Sacramento seems a tad high. It definitely was much quicker than driving when I saw Andy near Davis so I would consider doing this again and it was pretty cool to be dropped off in Old Sacramento on a train. read more

Clean & nice train station. They have a small vendor that sells snacks, food, water and soft drinks. Parking lot is small though & you need to get a pass to park there. Recommend you have someone drop you off or take uber/taxi. All in all a very pleasant experience. read more

The Martinez station if just fine for a train station... Just be warned that if you get a sleeper car on a long trip like to Seattle like i did don't expect to get any sleep. The two bed rooms are two bunks with a space about 3 feet ling and 10 inches wide to change stand or do whatever you need to do before you go to bed. The upper bunk has a netting to keep you from falling to the floor in the event you do fall asleep. The ride while in bed is a little bumpy but the days are filled with beautiful views, good food and a staff eager to assist you in any way. The beds fold up and become very comfortable large seats for daytime travel. Be careful how much baggage you bring on the train you don't have a lot of room! read more

I recently moved farther away from my job to live with a loved one. It's my first day riding the train to work and I didn't quite leave myself enough time to get my bearings at the station. I bought my monthly pass online and parked out front, where I saw you needed a parking permit. Slightly panicked with 5 minutes until the train arrived, I asked a really nice Amtrak employee about the permit. He made a joke, got me to smile and explained that the permits are free for paying passengers. He then gave me a permit and walked with me outside to show me where I would need to drive to get across the tracks to the overflow parking on busier days. Extremely helpful and I appreciated that he anticipated future problems. This well kept station and kind employees made my first day of commuting! read more

I came here to ship some boxes across country, and the experience was excellent. Parking is very easy (loading zones available + long term, ask them for a parking tag). Facilities were also well-kept, clean, quiet. The employees helped me move all of the boxes inside, and the rates were unbelievable. read more

The outside of the station is nice, and the station is nice on the inside. I do miss the old Martinez station, but luckily, it is now part of Martinez history. The new station is clean and modern, and you see people from all over waiting for the train. There is a little cafe there as well as a ticket area. There are views of old downtown Martinez that surround the station. Many great resturants and antique stores are closeby. This place is a great place to study in. read more

Great for families. We took the Amtrack here and it was so easy. From the station walk two blocks to downtown Martinez for a little window shopping/eating. Then head over to their waterfront area - also about two blocks from the station. Large grassy fields and play structures. I have no idea why people are giving this place such low marks. Amtrak is simply the worse train service in the world. Having traveled the world on various long and short train transport services, Amtrak by far has the worse customer service, reliability of its arrival and departure times and even their internet train location schedule of estimated arrival time, off by 2 hours. Wonder why such a substandard government own transportation service is even allowed to be in service with such an expensive horrible public service. read more

I have lived in Martinez for 18 years and have seen many things but the customer service was awful and they train attending are terrible I was going to Amtrak train to by a ticket to Chicago and the employees Elizabeth who told me I could not plug in my phone and am trust passing as I didn't even get a chance to pull out my credit card to purchase a ticket a told me I had to leave and I asked to talk to the manger and the manger was no better she just proceed to let her employees continue to be rude and disrespectful right in front of me and called the cops on me and I filed a complaint against Amtrak train and she continues to work there as a attend and I also found a train that she allowed a minor with a fake id board a train to Seattle that the last train came at around 10:40pm and there was a unauthorized train that left at 11:38pm and she said avoid Oregon and Washington for reason I never know why and I asked her what time it was and she still continues to work there after theses to huge events took place and allowing crimes to happens yet Amtrak doesn't fire her for what she has allowed to go on and people are urinating in the front of the building by the payphone and people who are by the bus who go in the bushes and urinate in the bush at the bus stop I not recommend stopping at this Amtrak and people who are intoxicated heavily to by a ticket this person was almost falling over read more

Getting to this station to catch a train can prove difficult as I discovered today/ I was traveling by Amtrak charter bus from Petaluma to Martinez. While driving down the highway our bus experienced a mechanical difficulty. Instead of the Martinez station calling for another bus to pick us up and bring the passengers to the station so they could make their train me and several others were stuck on the side of the highway and missed the train connection all together. After several phone calls an being hung up on by rude Amtrak customer support agents I continued to take a taxi from the side of highway 37 all the way to the station in Martinez. While the staff at the station refunded me the bus portion of this trip I feel that the customer service aspect of this business is not right. If I spend my hard earned money to take a trip I should be ensured a connection to my final destination without having to deal with customer support agents on the phone that make it seem like you are screwed in all scenarios. While I plan to use Amtrak again in the future this company needs to fix its charter bus issues from Sonoma County so the bus is on time and if there is any technical difficulties making efforts to send a relief bus for the passengers aid! Also on a side note make sure your drivers have some training in good manors and making the customer feel welcome. On top of all of this I did not appreciate being made to feel like an inanimate object who was just being transported as cargo to a destination. read more
