This is the Mystic Amtrak station. It should be noted that this station is not staffed by Amtrak,…read moreit is run by volunteers from the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce. They are very friendly and willing to help you, and can offer some help with trains. There is a Quik Trak Kiosk here where you can print tickets, but it is indoors, so if the station is closed you can not print tickets. There is a free hotline to call Amtrak Directly (also inside). The number for Amtrak is 1-800-USA-RAIL. Track 1 (typically south bound, station side) has a nice covered area where you can wait for the train. Track 2, across the tracks from the station, has a shelter. The hours are 10 Am to 4 PM. There is free parking. I would ask the volunteers, but it may also be ok to leave your car there overnight if you are spending the night in Boston or such.

This time, my mother and I were headed to Penn Station. My brother accidentally dropped us off at Mystic. So we missed our first train. I called Amtrak, and they changed our reservation. We took a Lyft to New London, as the Mystic Henny Penny had no seating. We were relieved to find Joe's Java, and enjoyed some coffee as we waited for another train. A perfectly pleasant station, with lovely high ceilings and seating. The indoor temperature was perfect, not too hot or too cold, and the restroom was clean.

And other times I use them. I have not been disappointed. I'm sometimes disappointed with the clientele since they all seem to take more than one seat. I wish there would be announcements and conductors who ask people to take their bags off the seat.

Know what to expect!…read more Lots of fond memories at the Greenport LIRR station as its the last connection with the city before you're ferried off to the magical island of Shelter, but enough about my memories. It's a small station which only accommodates 2 double decker cars coming out of Ronkonkoma. The station and facilities for that matter are bare to the bone and on your return trip to the city you'll be buying your tickets on board (no machines for purchasing on the platform). If you're coming back west, make sure to get to the train early, during peak season give yourself 20+ minutes and don't be that person who puts their luggage on the seats. Otherwise getting to Greenport and the North Ferry, the LIRR is one of the easiest ways to travel.

Clean bright station with plenty of parking sets away. Ticket vending machines are easy to use and electronic scheduling board is easy to understand. Reminds me of a old town station you would expect in the Midwest or in the heartland. Took us about an hour in GCT and off peak means fares are less and seating is plentiful. 4.5 stars for the port Jefferson LIRR train station.

Westhampton's stop has a whole building with a restroom, so definitely preferable if you plan on waiting for longer than a few minutes. And the Speonk waiting area is right by the track, whereas in Westhampton you would have to walk a few minutes to the platform. All in all, pretty good station. But the Montauk line is the real deal. When I was a kid, my dad owned the IGA in Hampton Bays. We'd have cousins come from Queens and take the train ride in to spend time with us at the beach. As a teenager, it was the best time ever. Thanks LIRR! From Penn Station NYC to the LIRR Montauk line its 116 miles. Think about this, you can fly to a different country *or* take the Long Island Rail Road to the end of Long Island and be in a beautiful beach town??? The train ends in Montauk, the end of the line. There is a MTA ticket machine here, make sure you buy a ticket going back to NYC or you'll pay extra on the train. There are cabs waiting to take you from the station to your hotel. If you're coming to Montauk from NYC, you're coming here for a relaxing vacation. Enjoy!
