I am 100 percent convinced she is the reason my dad died the day after his 68th birthday. He did not get to see my son grow up. Dr sparks treated him for YEARS for stomach issues. She pushd all her alternative meds on him. Had him on numerous supplements. Had him take all this extensive blood work for food sensitivities and allergies. You know what test she SHOULD HAVE ordered? A colocoscopy. 10 years and she NEVER ordered a colonoscopy. My dad died a year after his stage 4 colorectal cancer diagnosis. Had he been diagnosed years earlier when the symptoms first began he woukd have been in early stages. So NO I DO NOT recommend Amy Sparks. read more

Amy Sparks came referred by a friend with the warning "I'm not sure about her but be careful as she likes to sell you everything in her vast supplement room and she'll tell you everything in the world is wrong with you" Being new to Vegas and just looking for a good primary care doc I gave her a try. Actually 3. Ok to get in you need to pay $1000 fee for the year. Not covered by insurance. I did not pay this but offered $250 to try for 3 months. Now we get into the Dr Sparks experience. Odd. She has absolutely no eye contact with you. She sits and taps away at her laptop and asks a lot of stomach questions. No exam. She just tapped away. My 17 year old daughter was with me that day and asked me what was wrong with her. Then dr Sparks gave me a list of 9 items she wanted me to go buy from her receptionist. A bunch of private labeled stuff you don't know really what it does. That was $600. I did not purchase as I'm pretty on top of supplements and this made no sense to me. She wanted to see me back as she was very worried about toxins and mercury in my body. Found this odd---again no exam no blood tests so how could she come up with a protocol like this? Anyway I then talked to my friend who had half heartedly recommended her who informed me she'd dropped her as well. She found her practices suspect as well. I only returned one more time for a cough and was given to her then partner, another doctor who examined me and prescribed. Since then this doctor has left the practice and so has the PA. Don't bother with Amy Sparks. If you want supplements go see a good nutritionist like Tracy Pilipi. If you want medicine go see see a good internal medicine person or urgent care. Chronic illness and especially Lyme are very complicated to treat, and no one practitioner has all of the answers. Further, treating the root cause of these issues is VERY time consuming and extremely expensive, and nothing of quality is covered by insurance. That's not Dr. Sparks' fault and is not why I am leaving a mediocre review. I am actually disappointed with the subtle lack of mutual respect and human connection that I came to find intolerable in working with her for 20 months. It was not blatant, she was not rude, but she did not listen or hear me in any way. She suggested a lot of great things that jived with the hundreds of hours of research that I was doing on my condition, but when I brought up major points that were hitting my intuition (I.e. parasites, cavitation infections, the order in which we are treating microbes), I was repeatedly dismissed. Then she learns about parasites and BAM, turns out I do have a major parasite issue that should have treated FIRST. That alone set me back a year in my healing. The final straw in me switching practitioners was when I asked her again about a specific muscle pain that I was having (despite seeing two myofascial specialists and two energy healers) and was told that it was due to trapped emotions and that "she knows I have my energy people but I have not seen hers". Turns out the pain was due to the untreated parasites. I do believe trapped emotions can cause pain, but I am competent enough as an individual to find my own specialists and determine when a specific modality has reached its peak of effectiveness. Problem is, I don't believe she thinks her patients are competent or know their own bodies. Treating major illness is very scary as one faces years of pain, loss and extreme expense. I was repeatedly told that fear was a "negative human trait" that puts a damper on the immune system. Absolutely true about immunity, but statements like that make a patient (myself included) feel shame and, ironically, more fear. I was also told to see a life coach, and when I told her I have an excellent therapist, she literally rolled her eyes. Since I am a therapist myself, I was a bit surprised and hurt by that response. If you have Lyme and live in Vegas, Dr. Sparks is your best in-person option. But as medicine changes, there are excellent remote practitioners that can help you find healing. I felt liberated when I found one that listens and validates me, allowing me the space to be scared now and again. BTW my new doc told me to have my cavitation surgery ASAP which I am driving to now (my intuition was correct about my own body - imagine that). Lyme is not a hobby of mine. I want to feel better. I am striving to help my body achieve balance and I don't think I would ever have reached that with Dr. Sparks. read more

Both my parents love Dr Sparks but since before the pandemic she only does telemedicine, which has not worked out well for either of them. So in other words they have not actually had a Doctor listen to their lungs, heart and a face to face visit for years. My mom has ended up in the hospital terribly anemic with pneumonia and chronic Uti. Dr. Sparks pushes expensive vitamins on them and she still became anemic. She may be personable but what good doctor doesn't want to see their patients in person? This set up may work for very healthy people but I would be wary. read more

Dr Sparks office have been my in laws Dr. for years and years. My mother in law passed away 30 months ago and the Dr was aware of this. The office continued to bill a fee of $75.00 monthly for no wait appointments. The Dr never relayed the deceased information to billing to stop. My father in law recently caught the charge and contacted the office. They offered to stop the billing but would not refund the money. My in-laws were married for 44 years and you can imagine the devastation he went through. The Dr's husband is the office manager and has refused to reimburse for illegal billing. This is unfair especially when the Dr didn't notify billing that her patient was deceased. The family has been through enough and refunding what you took is the only ethical thing to do. Suffering with my health issues for years, it recently became so bad that I was home bound for six months. I am the type of person who takes active responsibility for my well being by constantly reading, and consuming information through podcasts and various webinars. However, when I was so sick, I could no longer lift my head up to answer the phone it was Dr. Sparks and her incredible staff that really lifted me up and provided the support I needed to turn things around. When I wanted to give up, Dr. Sparks not only treated my physical symptoms, but she was very sensitive to my brain-fog and depleted stores of optimism. She explained things to me in a simple way and really shined the light down the path for me so that I could pick myself up again and live. Anyone who has ever been so ill will understand what I am saying. Her staff..there are just no words for these folks. Christina who heads up supplements is an angel for my family. Her sharp mind and great care has many a times guided myself and two of my family members out of troubled waters. Brittany, Chelsea, Sally and all the folks Dr. Sparks surrounds herself with are top notch. Very business oriented and know how to help with insurance companies. Dr. Sparks has a practice that I feel empowers patients. It's about teaching patients to use this myriad of tools for self care... body, mind and soul. So if you are a person who wants a ten minute consult with a script for a pill.. this is probably not the place for you. And that is ok! But if one is eager to learn and implement permanent positive changes, patient/doctor relationship with Dr. Sparks will most certainly bear fruit! It's worthwhile to mention she is GREAT with children. A specialist in town prescribed my child FIVE different very harsh drugs and tried to tell me my child had a genetic disease (she does not). After suffering some debilitating effects of these meds, we decided to do functional medicine. Dr. Sparks has changed the trajectory for this young life. During my first visit, I thought Dr. Sparks was a godsend. She listened intently to all of my health issues and seemed genuinely concerned. She's excellent at hand-holding. I did think it was odd that she was absolutely convinced (based on absolutely no tests, lab results or any prior medical information) that all of my problems were based on my diet, and would (magically??) clear themselves up if I cut sugar, wheat and dairy from my diet, but I felt so awful I thought I'd give it a try. She did, however, order blood work - a lot of blood work - for me, which was conveniently drawn in the office. Before the followup visit, I received a frantic phone call from one of the office assistants, who spouted off a long list of vitamin supplements that she said the doctor requested I begin taking immediately - but she couldn't tell me why, exactly. That was alarming. For the follow up, Sparks was unavailable so I saw the PA who nonchalantly told me I was a prime candidate for a heart attack, but that I'd need more tests (some of which wouldn't be covered by my insurance) - oh, and that I could purchase all of those expensive supplements through their office. No thanks! I was told to return in 6 weeks. When I did, I saw Sparks again - who, despite having my records in front of her, seemed to have no recollection of me or my issues. Except that now she wasn't so much worried about my "supposed" heart problems or lab results. I told her that I'd been (mostly) following the diet and taking the supplements she prescribed, but that I still felt lousy. She actually got a bit indignant when I suggested that maybe something was going on with me that has been overlooked. She again held my hand and explained that I was probably taking low-quality supplements since I hadn't purchased them through her office, and that all of my ills would disappear if I'd only remove wheat from my diet. Then she ordered a couple more non-covered tests and sent me on my way. Enough was enough! The woman never did anything medically related besides listen to my heartbeat. How could she possibly know whether there was anything legitimately wrong with me? Is she just following the latest trends with all of that gluten garbage? Ridiculous. I have never met such an incompetent family practice. Avoid this place at all costs. Let me first say that I am not disputing the medical knowledge of Dr. Sparks in any way. She seems to know what she is talking about and is well learned. But these are the only things good about this place. My family met with Dr. Sparks once. We had to wait over 2 months for an appointment. After waiting that long, one would think they would get some individual attention. That's a negative. Dr. Sparks did not take any interested in either my wife or I personally. Even in the follow up visit, she did not respond to any of the personal bits of information and chit chat I had during our medical conversations. She stuck strictly to the facts and didn't care about my personal medical history. Recently, multiple people in my family have had serious illness that required attention by the Dr. We called our family practice dr, Dr. Sparks. She was unable to take time for us on any occasion. Instead, we had to meet with a new doctor hired by Dr. Sparks. Both times, we had to wait over 45 minutes to see the doctor. This is completely unacceptable. We made freaking appointments. Showed up at least 10 minutes early. Then had to wait 45 minutes until we were able to see a doctor. There is no universe that this is acceptable. This practice has so many operational issues, not to mention priority problems. We are finding a new practice and would advise anyone else considering Dr. Sparks to stay far away unless they want terrible customer service. read more

They are one of the few functional medicine providers in the Vegas valley. However, once you are a patient, you are treated like a VIP. My appointments are ALWAYS on time. The staff is so friendly. They recently have had some turn over in their staff. One doctor left and another is on maternity leave. I think we can all be patient with that. The most important thing here is their approach to the human body. As providers of functional medicine, they focus on prevention and not treatment. You come here to learn about how your own individual body works. Do not expect to come here for pain pills or antibiotics. That's not what they are about. YOU have to put in the work to heal yourself from the inside out. You will receive recommendations on diet, exercise, and lifestyle. You will be told things you do not want to hear. But would you rather live your life in a non-optimal way? OR are you willing to change your lifestyle to be the healthiest you? I am enrolled in their functional medicine program. I've been a patient of Dr Sparks for over 10 years. I'm a diabetic and had a stent last September. During these years of seeing Dr Sparks, she has been giving me a Boston Heart Blood analysis approx 3 times a year. This is a very extensive blood analysis. Some areas where I thought I had improved, Dr Sparks notices other areas that affect my diabetes or cholesterol. Each review, she takes the time to high light the areas for improvements and administers medication or supplements to counter act any deficiencies .. She has recommended my current cardiologist and Ear, Nose and throat specialist here in LV. Both of these specialist have been very thorough and knowledgeable. I'm an existing patient. Granted, I haven't been to the doctor in three years. I didn't need to. I've had two kids in three years and during this period, my OB acted as my primary. In any case, I called to make an appt with Dr Sparks in order to get a check-up and get some blood work done. I was told that I could make an appt (15 min slot) to meet and discuss what I would need but the next appt I could get would not be for six weeks. WTF! I don't recall any of my visits taking more than 15 mins. So why would I schedule an appt to discuss things that need to be done when in that 15 mins, all those things can be done. Looks like I need a new doctor. One that thinks more of patient care instead of how to bill insurance for an extra visit that involves no care. It's a shame. She used to be a good doctor. read more

This is a late post, but necessary. I had an appt with PA Jay because other PA left. He was very RUDE and will never see him again. I started to ask questions pertaining to my health and was told that I couldn't talk, he would be doing the talking. I was concerned about rashes on my legs and he blew me off...saying, oh it must be eczema and didn't want to discuss it further. I am very disappointed in Dr Sparks' decision to have him join her staff. He's rude, nonprofessional and doesn't represent the medical profession in a positive way. Stay away from him!!! read more

I was excited when I found a doctor with Lyme Disease experience and who took my insurance. Unfortunately, her outrageous charges prevented me from even booking an appointment. Before you can be seen for an initial visit, you have to pay a new patient fee and a quarterly fee. I think it was around $600, and your insurance won't pay for it. That is ridiculous. I have been a patient of Dr. Amy Sparks since 2004. My daughter, mother and grandmother were also her patients. She is a competent, compassionate and caring physician. She is very knowledgeable and believes in educating her patients. I have never felt rushed or pushed. She has spent as much as 35 minutes listening to whatever concerns we had. Admittedy, I see less of Dr. Sparks than I would like to, however I know that she has filled her office with equally competent, compassionate and caring physicians and staff. I know that she is with patients who may need more critical care than I. When I do see her, she never fails to greet me and inquire about me and my family. Dr. Sparks was awesome with my Mother, who was a retired family physician, herself. I hope she will keep me as a patient for as long as I reside in Las Vegas. read more

Stay away...everyone is diagnosed with "hidden" Lyme disease, even if your blood work proves otherwise. Extremely costly to complete all of her recommended testing, and then purchase the "treatments" from her office. I have been a patient of Dr. Sparks for over 10years. I have been on physical disability for 22 + years. 2017 was the first year I asked for a pain med EVER! She would not give me a pain med and sent me to a pain doctor instead. Even though I had been her patient for many years it did not matter, she would not write a pain med script . So I went to the pain doctor. After the pain doctor put me on the pain med Dr. Sparks fired me as a patient! She did not want me taking more then two controlled substances, even without any kind of suspicion of abusing them.?!?! I take one Muscle relaxer for my spine degeneration and one Xanax to treat lack of sleep due to thyroid disease. Adding a pain med resulted in my name being flagged by the doctor, and then she turned around and fired me?!? Telling me that my needs were too complex for what she can provide?!? On another note, all potential patients need to know she is not a typical doctor. After she parted ways with (Humana?) she changed her practice. She became holistic, and blames all sicknesses of any kind on gluten intolerance. If you have a legitimate illness or problem and go see Dr. Sparks be prepared. She pushes homeopathic medication that she sells her self. Her only treatment method seems to be omitting gluten and taking her homeopathic supplements no matter what the problem! I have legitimate illnesses that require more than omitting gluten from my diet... even though she is convinced that all of my problems would be solved if I did.. just ridiculous. Last thing, it takes about five months to get an appointment with her, and then she doesn't even listen to you and your problems during the appointment.. She just pushes her homeopathic approach to health care, and homeopathic supplements. If you don't follow her homeopathic care plan she bails on you... so don't even bother making an appointment unless you are prepared to go off gluten. read more

She sent me to another fine doctor who verified her findings, operated and I am free of cancer. I was previously to another doctor here in Las Vegas who found no indication of cancer. Dr. Sparks has been my doctor since I came to Las Vegas. For a while, she was not practicing when I became very ill. I went to 5 different Doctors all but one of them had nothing for me except patronizing words. One even sent me home with a bag of medicine and when I asked the check out person what this was for she said the doctor just said to take it. ( I did not) When I asked what he had found, she said he had not found anything. Dr. Sparks finally came back as a Functional/Integrative Doctor in addition to a regular GP. She was the only doctor who helped me. I was bedridden and now I am not. How many doctors are able to spend more than 15 minutes with you and don't just prescribe some medication and send you on your way? Yes, she charges a $75.00 a month fee for this but this is the only way she can afford to take the time it requires to really help people. She also takes my insurance. Even so, most insurances don't pay for testing that is needed to address these complicated issues. Yes, sometimes it is expensive but she will list her recommendations in order of priority. I'm out of bed and that is thanks to her skills as a functional/integrative Doctor. read more

It was great when I saw Dr Amy Sparks for the 1st time. Then I never saw her after because she is booked 6-8 months out so I always see the PA everytime. Imagine my surprise when I received a bill a year after that 1st visit. the annual physical is supposed to be free according to my UMR contract then they wrongfully charged me $100+ after a year. The most I should've been charged is the $14 copay. Patients are supposed to have 6 months to dispute but they will settle their bill with UMR a year after???what about the patients who cannot dispute??? I argued with them for weeks until they told me to just ignore it. Sparks family medicine is supposed to be part of the network according to our provider's website. I even confirmed with the clinic before I came in and they said yes but they charge patients! Now I just got another bill for a copay that I already paid for this year. Original review: I read the bad reviews but decided to go anyway bc I met someone who said that they had great results. They make you pay $150 per quarter so you can have extra time with the doctor. This is not paid by insurance. Except for the very kind woman who drew my blood and Seth who does biofeedback, I find the staff to be very rude here. They lack compassion and they treat you disrespectfully. I will be looking for another functional medicine practice. Follow up to my review: I have gone now another 2 times since I paid for my blood work and appointments with the doctor. I have to say that these last two times were quite different from the previous review. Dr. Brown and Jay the physicians assistant were truly fabulous. They showed concern and were very competent. As well as their assistants. It seems that the quarterly $150 is well worth it as they will spend a lot of extra time with you and they give you a few free sessions of the extra services they offer in the office. There are a few people on staff who could do a better job of being polite and showing compassion but on balance this is a solid place for functional medicine. read more

In what universe does a Doctors office rush you in the same day because you are so sick, take blood and then not give you the results or return your multiple phone calls to the office, for 3 days, to get the results, and tell you that you are harassing them because you call them too much...the answer is Amy Sparks office. I have never in my life gotten treated so poorly and unprofessionally while being extremely sick. I went into the office on a Wednesday and they refused to give me the results over the phone because their Doctor was too busy. Every time I called I received the same excuse that clearly each person has been told to tell people calling in...they will give the Doctor my message. I have selected a different Doctor. Dr. Sparks was my family primary care doctor for over 18 years. She took great care of my kids, always took her time and diagnosed a few tricky conditions over the years. Went back for my follow-up for the "locking fingers" and the first apt. the more conservative treatment worked great for the left hand, but I had one finger on the right hand that was stubborn and still locking. Again Doctor Jeff Brown, was just awesome, went over the results, what we he can do for the right hand locked finger and gave me all the side effects, options, worst case scenario! He prepared me for pain, cortisone injection, but no pain, I went right to work, typed a lot that day on the computer, and even lifted weights at the gym. Finger seems healed and no bruising and no pain. Miracle really, all I have to say is should have gone sooner. The staff, especially Sally, got me in on a cancellation, and gave me a few option over the past week. She is awesome too! This practice is not accepting new patients and does not recommend any other doctors. They were not at all helpful, I would think that they would have some sort of relationship or networking with other like minded Doctors in the area but apparently not. I would not recommend this office. read more

Dr Sparks is the best thing in Nevada for people who are chronically ill and have the desire to get better. She is a FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE doctor which is very different than a standard physician. She treats underlying disease and works at preventing other disease. She gets to the root of the issue and resolves it. She takes on the really tough cases. She does not band-aid symptoms. If you are looking for a handful of quick fix prescriptions then other prescriptions to manage their side effects, a doctor who spends 5 minutes with you because she sees 40 people a day, you may be happier elsewhere. She is on time, caring, responsive, VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE and is a genuinely nice person. Office is clean and staff is wonderful. We are treated like family. read more

Referred by a friend. Called to make an appointment. ALWAYS long wait times over the phone, all day. Came in here for routine check up and screening and flu shot and prescription. Only seen the nurse practitioner. Never saw the doctor. She told me she would get back to me with results either way. The visit was pleasant. This was Oct 21. Fast forward it is now Nov 25. I called a week ago because my prescription isn't covered under my insurance pending doctor's prior authorization. Made AT LEAST 5 calls regarding this (no exaggeration). All long call wait times, not always given a call back. I asked for my results out of curiosity only because I already have them on the phone. Only to find apparently the lab never gave them results. They left me a voicemail to call back by 5pm. I made a call back at 4:30 and he was on break, they told me to call back. 4:45 and I just get sent directly to voicemail. The following day 9:30am he is also busy and I am told to call back (all calls long wait times.) Finally it is 2pm and I get results that require a follow up?! Had I not requested the results I would never have known. One month later, at my request, after 2 days (after I request) waiting time, I get information that I need. UNACCEPTABLE. So I call the specialist they referred and my follow up appt is DEC EIGHTEEN! On top of that I call again today. It was necessary for them to give me a call back (of course.) Low and behold I am still waiting for prior authorization on a time sensitive prescription. I am really upset, frustrated, and do not feel well cared for. read more

Place seems like a serious scam! I called to ask how long of a wait there is for a new patient. I was told they only accept new "functional medicine clients." I would need to pay $250 to get started and a crazy quarterly fee as well. Besides the fees they would bill my insurance. Mind you I never even said what my problem was that I was calling for.
