How did I wait more than 11 years before re-visiting this place? I went several times many years ago, and I remember finding it smoky. Now, other than the lack of smokers indoors, it's unchanged. I had an extremely delicious draft beer (a summer wheat beer) and a small sandwich. Such a relaxing atmosphere, nice servers, nice crowd, and reasonable prices. Great breakfast which is all I have tried. Pancakes, Irish bacon, french toast all great as are the easy stuff like eggs and potatoes.

Bland Shepherd's Pie; mushy, battered (yes, I said battered, a venial sin at minimum) buffalo wings; and other fare that's subpar even by Riverdale standards. Ambiance. Beer. Music. Nice people. If your loking for some classic Irish Fare this is your place! I had the "Gallic Burger". Which was very Tasty and differed from your Classic American Burger! The Pinot Grigio that i had went very well with the burger and for 3$ a glass was well worth it!! Cool Place will definately be going back! read more

It's so so great to have this place in Riverdale. They offer great food and drink selections, a laid back & enjoyable environment, and live music! I've enjoyed brunch and lunch items, and so far, it seems you can't go wrong. Hopefully Riverdale might get a few more places like this sometime in the future. read more

For many years, this has been our go-to spot on a Sunday afternoon/evening after a day of leafing (in the Fall) or wandering Wave Hill (in the Summer) or just needing to get out! It's the closest thing you'll find to a traditional Irish pub in NYC, with a warm, quaint ambiance and friendly staff. A decent variety of brews on tap, including a well-poured Guinness, and great pub grub. I highly recommend the Buffalo wings, which are both crispy and tender with a sauce that is flavorful and not too, too hot. Also recommend the Shepherd's Pie and BLT w/avocado. We go on Sundays because of the live music, an Irish Seisiun that invites you to sing along to the songs you know and just enjoy the ones you don't. There is a nice sense of community here, even for a first-timer. Check it out! You won't be disappointed. read more

The worst fish and chips I've ever had in my life. Incredibly thin piece of fish with a weird coating of some kind of indeterminate crust (not a batter as it should be)...definitely a greasy food service product. Left me feeling like a had a brick in my stomach after eating a lunch that was provided by the lowest bidder! One star for a decent pint of Guinness, but otherwise a total disappointment. Unusual REAL old Irish bar in the good sense of that; Music scene and Guinness on tap as well as conversation with customers in the intellectual neighborhood near to Manhattan College. I've been living in Riverdale, Bronx, for almost 15 years and from day one this bar/restaurant is the best in town. Always incredible craic -- music, theater, open mic, poetry -- and you never have a bad time. The food is grand! And you get loads of it for a decent price. The service is excellent, friendly and they remember you. Of the bands that have played there -- all of them really solid -- I can recommend Jerry Scaringe and the Slippery Chickens for metal rockability with a folk heart. And Mary Courtney will swell your heart with her extraordinary voice and songs. Whether on a snowy quiet winter afternoon reading a book, or at their crowded weekend bashes, you'll have a great time. I am very upset about the quality of foo lately... Everything on my Irish breakfast was over cook. The quesadilla was extremely soggy... Dont know if there s a new cook in the kitchen or ive been going out times where he is overwhelmed. Service is great hence the the three stars. Last night my wife and I tried to attend the Andy Irvine show. We showed up at 6:45PM for the 8PM show. The place was about 30% full with people eating and drinking inside. But we were told we could not go in till 7PM-fair enough. So we waited outside with a small group of others. At about 7PM, this dishelved hoser is at the front door with a small white envelope with cash in it. He asks who is on the reservation list? What reservation list? A guy was on the list pays him and goes in. A couple said they were on the list, he couldn't find their name but thought he knew them, took their money and let them in. My wife goes to hand him $40, but he says we have to wait till 8PM to see who on the reservation list shows up. Again, what reservation list? We had checked the web site several times and had heard promos of the show on WFUV-no mention of price or reservations... Well, it's raining, we're thirsty and hungry so we head to Madison's on Riverdale Ave, had a delighftul meal and ran into some old friends. I know ABBC is a small place, but their admissions policy strikes me as more than a little dicey. We are long-time and regular contributors to WFUV-donor dollars should not be used to support this place. If the Pogues, Planxty and Jesus Christ were here for a one-time gig, we would not attend. read more

Excellent joint near to a work site of mine on the Harlem River, had the fish and chips (homemade fries) and they were awesome. I'd highly recommend it. It was a little greasy but that's what you get when you order fried food right? A colleague had the Irish curry with rice and fries (the Irish way I guess) and he loved it. Definitely feels like an Irish bar where you'll see people from all walks of life. If you're coming here and expecting an exclusive 20 something group, you may be disappointed. I cherish this local hang out where the owners know the regulars by their names. Outdoors, they have a sidewalk cafe type seating and small dog friendly (outdoors). Indoors you'll see a bar type seating area and more of a relaxed soft seating, tables and bar stool area. Um... be prepared to see lots of eclectic decorations. A really nice place and most of the people wouldn't even believe it's still in the Bronx. Their choice of beers may not be that great (although they had the Urquell, which I believe is not the most common European beer in the US), but the food is delicious. The service is okay, but on busy nights they seem overworked. However, if you're more likely to drop on a mid-week afternoon you can't ask for anything more. Also, they have some Irish personnel, so if you're a European tourist/expat looking for a chat with some fellow Euros you should definitely stop by. read more

This is a true neighborhood Irish pub. There are no TVs to mindlessly stare at and no pool table or people playing darts. This is a pub!! A public house. YOU COME HERE TO MEET PEOPLE AND HAVE SOME GOOD CONVERSATIONS WITH THE NEIGHBORS.
