Before you reach the end of City Island and all the hoping seafood joints that cause weekend traffic to line City Island Avenue, The Snug sits quietly waiting for customers, offering the promise of Guinness and fish n' chips. It has the normal Irish kitsch, street signs and posters, but it is less of an Irish bar than a local pub. The place advertises it's "traditional" fish n' chips ($14.95) outside and seems proud of them. They come in six small pieces over a healthy bed of well-made chips. I could not distinguish whether the fish "nuggets" were cod or haddock, but as usual it all tasted more like salt and vinegar after I fully lathered it up. City Island in general can feel a bit unwelcoming to visitors, but The Snug is a friendly place to have a couple pints and fill up. I was surprised at how friendly our service was, and would have loved to stay even longer.

Half eaten cream cake sandwich. I've never had anything here that I didn't love

I've never had meal here that I didn't like. Today I had shepherd's Pie. It was amazing! Drinks are good, services is good, food is good. What more can you ask for?!

The chef comes from the world of high-end NYC dining, and you can feel that experience in every detail of the food. There's a level of creativity, precision, and thoughtfulness here that honestly feels Michelin-worthy. This makes sense, because the restaurant has earned that recognition. Beyond the food, Archie's also has one of the best Scotch and whiskey (bourbon and rye included) selections anywhere in the area. It feels curated by people who genuinely care about food and drink, not just running another restaurant. We eat there often, especially for brunch, which is spectacular and consistently better than it has any right to be for a neighborhood spot on City Island. The best example of the attention to detail was the chopped cheese sandwich special. When it arrived, my first thought was: "How is anyone supposed to eat this giant thing?" But then you take a bite and realize the bread was custom made specifically for the sandwich. Somehow it completely melts in your mouth along with the meat and cheese, making this enormous sandwich unexpectedly delicate and perfectly balanced. It's the kind of detail most restaurants would never even think about. Archie's is a true hidden gem and proof that truly exceptional food can exist in places you wouldn't expect.

So good, what a nice combo. The marinara sauce was warm and fresh tasting as well. I got the mahi mahi tacos, which were HUGE! Come hungry for sure because I could barely finish them. The avocado cream and slaw were the perfect pairing with the tacos. My friend got the fish and chips and subbed for sweet potato fries. Her portion was huge too. We got seltzers to drink. Really delicious overall. Again, very surprising for a pub. The menu was also impressive!! Go and check them out!

Now when I visit, it's more for the consistent delicious snacks. I usually go and sit at the bar but the table side service is also excellent. They have a well-seasoned front of the house staff. They are quick, efficient and friendly. The wings are smoked and fried. They are tender and tasty. I prefer smaller wings and sometimes they can be on the bigger side but since they are smoked it remains tender. The steaks are cooked to temperature and topped off with a nice butter compound. Im prone to trying new things but mainly stick to things I have ordered and enjoyed in the past. The burger menu is extensive and the combos they offer seem to be crowd favorites. I really enjoy the short rib, fig, fontina sandwich-- great balance of flavors and always consistent. If I were just reviewing the breakfast I would give them five stars. Its excellent. I love the short rib egg and cheese with scallions. I personally enjoy eating with actual silverware and real plates but they have a very lax vibe with what they use to put their food in. It's usually plastic plates and foil containers or fried food basket lined with parchment paper. I understand putting wings, fries, or onion rings in that type of container but if I order a steak or a bigger meal I want a plate and a real steak knife to enjoy my food. Over the years I feel like the bar hasn't delivered the best drafts -- sometimes they are warm or not functioning. The craft drafts that they circulate aren't always kept to the right temp and that can be annoying to complain about after you waited a while for it to get poured. They do carry cans/bottles and that is option I would recommend to go with.

We continued frequenting this spot even after new ownership as the location is ideal for the area. We've all had so many cool memories here. Hanging with friends and family, NFL Football Sunday's, St. Patrick's Day after parties. Summer Weekend Afternoon Live Music. Unfortunately Covid put a kibosh on most things and calmed the activities down somewhat. Despite the calmed down atmosphere this spot is still one of our go-to's for the occasional drink. As for the food itself, it always seemed basic and not on par with food options from back in the day. It's apparent that improvements on food are trying to be made, so good luck to them on improving. As for the staff, never any issues there, they've always been on point. Some are longtime employees, so you get to know them over the years. Despite some things here and there we are glad that you remain an ol' faithful in our Neck of the woods. 3.5

I would classify the food as typical bar fare with an occasional special that can be a hit or miss. Personally I am a person who find certain meat and textures off putting so I tend to enjoy more lean proteins. The pork chop in mushroom sauce special wasn't something I'd order again because I found that it had many things running through the meat. The mushroom sauce and tortellini were great and I enjoyed them very much. The Fishermans platter was also a special and I found that the fish was really dry but the shrimp and clam strips were tasty and easy to eat. I love the side salads they offer with dinner because they are plentiful and full of fresh vibrant vegetables. The balsamic is also good. Anytime I see they have mussels on the menu, I usually order them. The mussels (for the most part) are clean and not sandy. The sauces are always tasty and they serve it with some bread which is great to get all the sauce! This review is more of a 3.5 because I cant say they have amazing food but it is great food for drinks and for a casual night out. I wouldn't get too experimental on food but I do love this neighborhood staple. The view of the bridge and water aren't bad either. The staff is always quick and generally nice.
