Dr Joan Schieber was referred to me by a friend and when I went she sat me down like I was in…read moretherapy which was fine as I want my Dr to know my life but when I told her I was 25 and want 5 kids she told me to come next appointment with a "plan b" as I was "getting up there in age and wasn't in a serious relationship" yet and needed to think about a plan B because of my age and relationship status. I let that go as I had heard great things but once I started getting with my friend who was a nurse she asked me if I knew he was safe to hook with I said "yeah he's a nurse so he knows what to do" her response was extremely judgmental saying that she's never heard of a nursing job that required STD testing...not what I meant at all...I just meant he's a nurse and knew the importance of testing. From there I ended up having skin issues (after further testing with another doc realized it was allergies) and she refused to test me after having me take off work to get a biopsy because she said I was be in "immense pain and not worth it" which is nuts because I finally switched to a specialist at KU and found out it was allergies and cleared it up. Unfortunately I just never felt heard or seen at St Luke's with her and I felt very judged and given up on.

They have walked me through both a pregnancy loss and healthy pregnancy. As heartbreaking as the loss was, the staff was very sensitive and supportive through it. Dr. Sarah Baldassaro is amazing! I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for an OB-GYN.

TLDR: I did not feel cared for, supported, or welcomed at this practice except when with the kind…read morenurses (they do have the best nurses!). This practice is not physician-owned, but is a subsidiary of HCA Health. In other words, the doctors are employees (of HCA) and not owners of their own practice. I realized this after I had been visiting the office several months into my pregnancy during the most vulnerable period of my life when I needed the most support. Unfortunately, the fact that they are employees and not owners was, I felt, reflected in the level of care I received while pregnant. Early during pregnancy, I thought I might have a serious condition (which thankfully turned out just to be muscle strain), and when I called to ask if I could speak with a doctor or go in to be seen as I thought this might be an emergency, I was told they do not for any reason accept walk-ins, even for established patients, and that I could go to an ER (ER doctors are notoriously ignorant regarding OB issues and would have been of no help). I was very surprised that they would tell an established and concerned pregnant patient with a developing baby to go take her concerns to a random doctor who is not an OB. The doctors also would not call me back-I got a call back from a nurse. Again, these OBs are employees, so the level of ownership and care will be different from what one would expect from a physician-owned office. Most of my points of contact were with Dr Baldassaro and Dr Ahmed, the former who maintained an air of brisk professionalism, whatever her personal feelings toward me might have been, while the latter was unable to do even that. (Dr Parks and Dr Foster were lovely. I had the fewest points of contact with them, but they were professional and approachable in my one interaction with them each.) Dr Ahmed's demeanor and speech dripped with annoyance and disdain. At one point, she told me my birth would cost "70-80k" (though insurance would cover most of it) because of all of the different costs that would add up, "like the NICU"-a strange statement to make considering I had had a healthy pregnancy without any indications my baby would need the NICU (the birth ended up costing $10,000 and my baby never ended up in the NICU). When I expressed my concerns about certain procedures (like getting six ultrasounds in the last two months of pregnancy after I had already had three ultrasounds prior-the six additional ones I felt were excessive and unnecessary, though I understood the financial incentives for them as a business), and said I had googled the necessity and potential risks of getting so many ultrasounds, I was swiftly rebuked; "Google is the WORST place to get medical advice," Ahmed replied condescendingly. (I personally disagree and learned a lot from my Internet searches during pregnancy.) I was also pressured to induce my baby at 39 weeks because I had high blood pressure one afternoon (which dropped that evening and remained lower for the remainder of my pregnancy), a couple symptoms of preeclampsia, and the fact that I was of advanced maternal age (I had been 35 for three months). I was repeatedly told that there would be "no benefits" to waiting a single day more. I pushed back and insisted on not inducing until the 41st week. Dr Ahmed was clearly displeased with my decision not to immediately induce and reminded me that since I had signs of preeclampsia, I could have a stillbirth or suffer terrible, life-threatening consequences myself (including potentially "a stroke"), but she said she could not "force me" to stay and get induced if I did not want to, so I went home. I wanted to have a natural, spontaneous, unmedicated labor if possible, which I knew would be nearly impossible if I were induced (pitocin, the drug that is used to induce labor, causes artificially intense contractions, which almost always leads to an epidural because of the intense pain). I went home and a week later, went into spontaneous labor at 40 weeks, and had the quickest birth of my dreams at the hospital without an epidural or any complications. My baby was perfectly healthy, as was I. I hardly bled (I was told by the nurses I bled about 1/4 of the average amount), in large part I think because I did not listen to the OB's advice to take two baby aspirins daily during my pregnancy, which they had recommended due to my age (I went home and googled the side effects of taking two baby aspirins daily, and one was that I might bleed more during labor and delivery-so I skipped the aspirins). I realized I felt anxious and a sense of dread at every visit to this office, so as soon as I completed my required post-partum visit here, I decided to look elsewhere for an OB who would offer kind, compassionate, and supportive care.

She was - and continues to be - nothing short of amazing. Empathic, kind, clearly well-educated, with a courteous and committed staff - every appointment there is something I have great experiences with. In fact, after my first appointment with Dr. Wittek, I literally sat in the parking lot in my car and called 4 or 5 of my close girlfriends and told them they instantly needed to change OB/GYNs and go see Dr. Wittek. Every one of them did, and every one of them has had an experience similar to mine - they LOVE her. Dr. Wittek, like me, is a mom and has young children. She knows the challenges motherhood presents and understands well the concerns that all of us have. I have found her to be nothing short of magnificent and can't recommend her highly enough. She is an incredible physician, and a great caregiver, and a delightful person - in every sense.

My experience with Dr. Lyda Pung was terrible. I saw her because I was having stabbing pain daily…read morein the region of my cervix and hadn't had a period in almost two years with no symptoms of menopause and no pregnancy. I had been seen at the ER, where they found a fibroid taking up about half of my uterus. She brushed off my concerns about the lack of periods and about the fibroid entirely and prescribed depo as a stab in the dark to try to manage the pain. It did control the pain but at my size I couldn't afford to gain the 30lbs it made me put on so I stopped it. She never suggested any follow-up imaging to see if the fibroid was stable and when I insisted on it, after I received the results I got a call from her office that it was stable in size. I had already compared the results, and the fibroid had in fact more than doubled in volume! I pointed this out and when the nurse called me back after talking to Dr. Pung, I was told they never received the original ultrasound. How could they say my fibroid was stable in size if they have no basis for comparison? They flat out lied to me. I wouldn't trust Lyda Pung as far as I could throw her.

I'm reviewing a gyno? Yep…read more This is the only gyno I know of that doesn't deliver babies. What does this mean to you? Well, at my old doc--I never got to see her, she was always gone delivering babies. I went 3 years seeing her nurse practitioner and not seeing my doctor. Now, I get to see doctor Barndthouse everytime. He calls you personally with your test results, even if nothing is wrong. I admit, at first I was scared to go to a "man" and he was my first man gyno. Get over it and go see him. If you are at the stage of your life where you are done having kids, and I don't mean old just done with babies everywhere--this is a great practice with super friendly staff and a wonderful and caring doctor. I hope he doesn't retire because I am unaware of anyone else in the metro who only does gyno and not OB.

Dr Monzon and the staff at Pediatric Associates of Olathe are fantastic health care providers. I've…read morebeen going there for a bit over two years now and they are always courteous, thorough and gentle with my two little ones. Dr. Monzon is very knowledgeable, and takes time to answer all my questions and addresses all my concerns. I could not ask for a better provider for my children. The lab staff are also very good with children. Both my children are difficult to draw blood from, and they always get it GENTLY the first try. The check out receptionist is so delightful, the children AND I can hardly wait to say hello to her and schmooze her out of a few stickers! If I had one complaint, it would be the front reception staff. I have been made to wait as long as 15 minutes before being called to check in, because the front desk staff were chatting too much to notice a new name on the sign in clipboard.
